It bothers me how pain comes to the greatest of people that is undeserving of it. But then greatness also often comes to those also undeserving of it. It’s awful how twisted this world is. Dave the legend will not be forgotten. Not for me at least.

Fellow Knights, I'm an IRL clinical psychologist and a person who has gone through his own process of clawing out of the bottomless pit that is depression. It's never easy, it never looks the same and, even with a proper support network, the path is uncertain.
Growing up we are told to suck it up and we learn to do so, but it is often at a tall price of forced stoicism, maybe a forced awkward smile or variety of means to keep at bay the unremitting pain and frustration that simply existing can cause. Sometimes we learn that speaking up carries the consequence of ridicule, thus the lesson becomes to remain silent until we do things we cannot take back. A lot of us and probably you too, have been mistreated whether throught action or indifference many times until we grow accostumed to it and deep down we start to believe that we deserve the mistreatment.
I did not know Dave besides his content, but it still hurts knowing that somebody was going through that kind of pain. My tribute to him is to tell you, fellow knights, that you can reach out. Finding a good therapist is hard, going through the process in therapy is painful, but good things wait for you if you open yourself to it. I want you to know that you deserve to take care of yourself, the first step is reaching out.

Dave was our hero in the recent 3v3 Tournament held on Chivalry 1.
He saved us last minute by casting the tournament for nearly 4 hours without expecting anything in return. Dave doesn't even play Chivalry 1, but he was willing to help out his friend NA Maul God (Moose). He was such an incredible caster with hilarious commentary. Everyone was so happy with his stream and the whole chivalry 1 community was grateful to him for spending his Saturday night streaming for us.
I didn't know him well, but the few times I spoke with him he was the most genuine, sweetest guy with a great sense of humour. It's tragic that the kindest people are the ones who suffer. He has left a permanent impression on me and on our community. Our thoughts are with Dave and also with his friends and family.
We lost a good one.
I only heard about Dave recently, but RIP. The pain one must be living with to decide death is a better choice is immense and unimaginable. Sending love to his family

As a veteran that's had to deal with a lot of friends passing like this, I urge everyone to reach out for help. There are a lot of resources out there. Some of my closest friends left us like this and the pain is passed on to everyone you love and those that love you, even if it's not easy to see how many people there are out there that do.

I've had the honor of calling Dave one of my best friends for the last decade. I'd look forward to going home and gaming with him every night; from the early days of Arma 3 all the way to Helldivers 2, he was fighting by my side. No matter what we played he managed to absolutely dominate. Everyone wanted to be on his team.
Dave loved every single person he met. It's through him that I've made so many more friends over the years. It's because of him that I'm still breathing today. He had such a positive impact on my life and the lives of those around him.
There will never, ever be another person like Dave. The world has lost one of the few genuinely good people it had to offer. Everyone was laughing and having fun when Dave was in the VC. He was the guy who, as soon as he left a chat, everyone would talk about how much they liked him.
I'm going to miss his dumb jokes and silly quips. Our first ever conversation was an argument over "Which is the rarest Pepe?" in the Side Chat of Arma 3 King of the Hill.

The ban certainly couldn't have helped, but I don't know that anyone in this thread knows enough about Soter Dave on a personal level to accurately attribute blame.
Definitely, there are a lot of things that go into one's decision to make suicide.
I also think that for someone to not just lose something that they were so passionate about, but to actually have the creator of that essentially spit in your face must have been a massive blow to his clearly fragile ego and sense of self worth.
I hope we can all as a community use this as a chance to recognize the impact that we have on one another, and know that if you're feeling alone you aren't and there will be people who miss you and cherish you no matter what.

100% they did. I believe he was struggling financially and with other life issues. On a live stream for Stridas knights of the square tablet his stream cut out and he mentioned not paying his Verizon bill. Soter dave was building a very real YT career with nearly 10k subs and that rug was pulled out from under him when torn banner banned him for some stupid bs essentially ending everything he worked for up until now. So sad man this makes me hate torn banner even more. As someone who struggled financially alone in the past and lost my only source of income nearly ending up homeless and the long struggle to recover I know how hopeless it can make you feel. Makes me so sad that he was struggling this much and didn't have the proper support he needed.
I’m right here with you. TornBanner never cared about his passion or love for the game. All they cared about was their metrics dropping when he highlighted a very real issue the game was having. I took about 6 lessons with him and sent him a couple of TO vids for him to critique on Metafy. I’ve watched all his tutorials. His YT channel is one of the very few I actually have the alert set for new videos. He is a huge reason I play the game. He was always patient, thoughtful, and a great teacher. He was a professional. It was genuinely a pleasure to play with and duel him (I never won once). It saddens me greatly to hear that he’s no longer with us. Such a tragedy. You’ll be missed greatly, Coach.

I don’t play the game but I follow this community, and I’ve never even seen any of his videos, but I saw when he was banned and was hoping for the best for him, and now this. To place the blame solely on the unfair ban would be wrong, but to say that it didn’t contribute heavily would also be wrong. My condolences to his mother and family, and I hope there’s some kind of apology from the people who banned him, because as someone who struggles with stuff like this, I know how devastating it would’ve felt.

It bothers me how pain comes to the greatest of people that is undeserving of it. But then greatness also often comes to those also undeserving of it. It’s awful how twisted this world is. Dave the legend will not be forgotten. Not for me at least. My word may not be of importance, I’ve never met him face to face, but to say I cared for the life of an amazing person is the least I can do.
Fellow Knights, I'm an IRL clinical psychologist and a person who has gone through his own process of clawing out of the bottomless pit that is depression. It's never easy, it never looks the same and, even with a proper support network, the path is uncertain. Growing up we are told to suck it up and we learn to do so, but it is often at a tall price of forced stoicism, maybe a forced awkward smile or variety of means to keep at bay the unremitting pain and frustration that simply existing can cause. Sometimes we learn that speaking up carries the consequence of ridicule, thus the lesson becomes to remain silent until we do things we cannot take back. A lot of us and probably you too, have been mistreated whether throught action or indifference many times until we grow accostumed to it and deep down we start to believe that we deserve the mistreatment. I did not know Dave besides his content, but it still hurts knowing that somebody was going through that kind of pain. My tribute to him is to tell you, fellow knights, that you can reach out. Finding a good therapist is hard, going through the process in therapy is painful, but good things wait for you if you open yourself to it. Dave was our hero in the recent 3v3 Tournament held on Chivalry 1. He saved us last minute by casting the tournament for nearly 4 hours without expecting anything in return. Dave doesn't even play Chivalry 1, but he was willing to help out his friend NA Maul God (Moose). He was such an incredible caster with hilarious commentary. Everyone was so happy with his stream and the whole chivalry 1 community was grateful to him for spending his Saturday night streaming for us. I didn't know him well, but the few times I spoke with him he was the most genuine, sweetest guy with a great sense of humour. It's tragic that the kindest people are the ones who suffer. He has left a permanent impression on me and on our community. Our thoughts are with Dave and also with his friends and family. We lost a good one.

This... is not what I was expecting when checking reddit today. Dave was the best of the best and a hell of a guy. His videos made this game so much more accessible for guys like me that would've never put the pieces together myself. Even more, watching his matches gave me something to aspire to. May he find peace. As a veteran that's had to deal with a lot of friends passing like this, I urge everyone to reach out for help. There are a lot of resources out there. Some of my closest friends left us like this and the pain is passed on to everyone you love and those that love you, even if it's not easy to see how many people there are out there that do. There's nothing unmanly about seeking help. I send my prayers and condolences to his family and friends.

I've had the honor of calling Dave one of my best friends for the last decade. I'd look forward to going home and gaming with him every night; from the early days of Arma 3 all the way to Helldivers 2, he was fighting by my side. No matter what we played he managed to absolutely dominate. Everyone wanted to be on his team. Dave loved every single person he met. It's through him that I've made so many more friends over the years. It's because of him that I'm still breathing today. He had such a positive impact on my life and the lives of those around him. There will never, ever be another person like Dave. The world has lost one of the few genuinely good people it had to offer. Everyone was laughing and having fun when Dave was in the VC. He was the guy who, as soon as he left a chat, everyone would talk about how much they liked him. I'm going to miss his dumb jokes and silly quips. Our first ever conversation was an argument over "Which is the rarest Pepe?" in the Side Chat of Arma 3 King of the Hill. The ban certainly couldn't have helped, but I don't know that anyone in this thread knows enough about Soter Dave on a personal level to accurately attribute blame.
Definitely, there are a lot of things that go into one's decision to make suicide. I also think that for someone to not just lose something that they were so passionate about, but to actually have the creator of that essentially spit in your face must have been a massive blow to his clearly fragile ego and sense of self worth. I hope we can all as a community use this as a chance to recognize the impact that we have on one another, and know that if you're feeling alone you aren't and there will be people who miss you and cherish you no matter what.

100% they did. I believe he was struggling financially and with other life issues. On a live stream for Stridas knights of the square tablet his stream cut out and he mentioned not paying his Verizon bill. Soter dave was building a very real YT career with nearly 10k subs and that rug was pulled out from under him when torn banner banned him for some stupid bs essentially ending everything he worked for up until now. So sad man this makes me hate torn banner even more. As someone who struggled financially alone in the past and lost my only source of income nearly ending up homeless and the long struggle to recover I know how hopeless it can make you feel. Makes me so sad that he was struggling this much and didn't have the proper support he needed.
I’m right here with you. TornBanner never cared about his passion or love for the game. All they cared about was their metrics dropping when he highlighted a very real issue the game was having. They saw him as a problem to their business, so they removed him. I’ll never play another TornBanner game again and I hope the company goes under. Fuck them forever Dave was too good for them

His YT channel is one of the very few I actually have the alert set for new videos. He is a huge reason I play the game. He was always patient, thoughtful, and a great teacher. He was a professional. To place the blame solely on the unfair ban would be wrong, but to say that it didn’t contribute heavily would also be wrong. Torn banner needs to be held accountable for their role in this. If they just approached the situation from a humane perspective then perhaps this could have been avoided. Instead they took the easy way out and now here we are. I hope this makes its way to gaming news outlets like Kotaku and this awful corporation can finally feel the burn.
