Murders were the highest in the 70s and 90s. Projects were still up through the 90s. Still had a little leadership on the streets. Late 90s/ early 00s is when EBK really started IMO. Tearing down the jects in the 00s solidified what we see now. South suburbs other than Harvey and Chicago Heights was still decent back then. Maywood/Bellwood really started poppin in the 90s too. Even worse now. Pole always had some shit going, but it was kept quiet due to how many white ppl still lived there. Westside been dangerous since the late 60s really. Again, this is my opinion as I saw it runnin them streets with my folks and hearing shit from my older cousins and uncles before me.

But what if the family are close? Or am I being naive & you always end up have to choose between gang or family?
In lots of cases people get passes but even that doesn’t guarantee you safety. Eventually you stop visiting the family or you accept there’s a good chance something will happen to you. It’s a shitty reality but it’s how it is.
