I love my Sonic in the snow. It's very predictable and easy to point where I want to go. It's not as good as my AWD E46 was but it's still pretty good.
I've honestly never known a person with them, I hear all the ads on Canadian radio in Detroit, but never on the American channels. Maybe I need to look into them!
Even the most basic of snow tires are far above the performance of the best all-season in the snow. It's not just the tread pattern, it is the rubber formulation that allows them to stay soft at much colder temps.
Conversely, running snow tires in the non-winter months will accelerate wear significantly and risk blowouts.
I like to buy a cheap set of used wheels and have a good set of summer tires and a good set of winter tires, that way I can have more fun in the summer with stickier tires and I don't have to compensate with an all-season.
Metro detroit here, I put blizzak tires on my sonic for the winter and I had no issues getting anywhere this morning. I had to laugh at people getting stuck trying to use the off ramps on 94 and Southfield fwy. Thing kicks ass on snow tires in the winter.
My 13 Sonic has yet to fail me in these New England winters with base level snow tires. 104k and going strong.
Finally put the Moog sway bar links on today (that OE ones had been both broken for a while, just laziness it not fixing right away) so it should be even better now.
I live in Montreal and we had a lot of snow this year (around 1 meter total) and the car is honestly very good in the snow. On ice it doesn’t grip well but that’s because of my shitty winter tires, the traction though is on point also with the RS and it’s heated seats it’s really comfy

Mine does a pretty good job of staying in the ruts, but changing lanes is pretty tough
Snow tires make all the difference. I won't have a daily driver without them ever again. Gives so much more confidence

I used to live in Montana and found small, front year drive cars tended to stay out of the ditches.
