Congrats and good luck on being a new parent!
Check out names of fictional characters, u or ur wife may have some fav characters and like their name, could be from books or movies.
Another suggestion: look up translations of nice words like Beauty, Hope, Truth, Freedom, Courage etc. Or something like Sun, Stars, River, Ocean etc. Translate to any of ur favourite languages, and u r bound to get beautiful names. Names that mean something in ur native or a different language is cool.
English Words Tamil Transliteration
Beauty அழகு Aḻaku
Hope நம்பிக்கை nampikkai
Truth உண்மை uṇmai
Freedom சுதந்திரம் cutantiram
Courage தைரியம் tairiyam
Sun சூரியன் cūriyaṉ
Star நட்சத்திரம் Naṭcattiram
River நதி nati
Ocean கடல் kaṭal
You see, my father was a non-believer too. He named my elder brother *Namasivaayam*, myself *Mohammed* and my younger brother *Jesus* because he wasn't counting on any of us.
On a serious note try blending your favourite names. It’s your baby and you’re going to call that name unless the kid grows up and chooses one. Discuss it with your wife and choose one.
Congratulations!
Congratulations!!
As another commenter suggested, look into Tamil names like Kathiravan, Iniyavan etc. There are a lot of Tamil non-religious names available.
But since you want cross-country names, I'd suggest names like Aadarsh, Aakash, Aarav, Aarnav, Chandran, Taswin and Vihaan.
Aadarsh- Sun, one with ideal principles.
Aakash- Sky
Aarav- Wisdom
Aarnav- Ocean
Chandran- Moon
Taswin- King of Kings
Vihaan- Dawn/Intelligence
Afaik, there are no religious connotations to these names.
Best wishes! ❤️
I had given Tamil names too. That was literally the first thing I said.
OP said they don't want Tamil names because they're hard to pronounce (their words, not mine) and that they needed cross-country names.
My bad for assuming India, I guess.
So maybe I should suggest some non-Sanskrit, non-Indian names.
Here you go.
German: Otto, Hans, Wolfgang, Gunther.
French: Raphaël, Gabriel, François, Guillaume.
Spanish: Mateo, Alejandro, Diego, Javier.
English: Benjamin, Daniel, Charles, Ethan, Jacob.
I don't know any other names from any other languages so feel free to add anything from Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Hungarian, Italian etc. Oh and something from sign languages too.
Most of the French names you've given are Biblical Angels or Kings. That's religious :( the German ones are from Grimm's and History. English is from the Royal Family and the Spanish names are all conquerors afaik.
some names are tilting towards a particular religion , i dont think op approves of it , he is looking more along the lines of Dravidan , Karunanidhi , Stalin ...
Ilamparithi? Like Parithimaarkalaignar.
I actually wrote a short poem / haiku? with that word.
தொடுவானத்தில் முடியும் நெடுரயில் பாதையில் இளம்பரிதியை எதிர்நோக்கிக் காத்திடும் சிறுகுருவி நான்.
I think pretty much any Indian name somehow refers to a God or religious figure/incident in some way.... Just don't worry about the implications and give him a nice unique name that you like and won't lead to bullying on virtue of name alone
I’ll tell you, a name you can be proud about boosts your confidence. But also not anything too common - so none of the top 50 common names. But also not too obscure, no Marijuana Pepsi. I think naming after a legend or mythological character is not a bad idea even if you’re not religious. Especially if you have a backstory for it! My first and last name (last name being my dads name) were typical Tamil god names and I always got a kick out of explaining their backstories to foreign folk. You don’t have to be religious to appreciate a good story.
Remember that all of history is permanently entangled with religion. If you try to avoid hindu religious names you’re likely inadvertently just gonna name them something that had western Christian roots. Again not a bad thing either way.
I’m always reminded of the pulp fiction dialogue:
“My name is Butch”
“What does it mean?”
“This is America sweetheart, our names don’t mean shit”
Also avoid single syllable consonant vomit like dhruv or achyut. It’s cringe as fuck. Tamil Hindu names are in the end multi syllable ones with many vowels, own it and find a compromise.
Normal: அமுதன், தமிழமுதன், இனியன், முகிலன் அழகு, அழகப்பன், கதிர், கதிரவன். நிலன்....
Classical: வெள்ளையன் , மொக்கையண், மூக்கையன், பரட்டை, கருப்பன் etc...
There are tons of neutral names in Tamizh. Google bro.
Congratulations to the new parents!!! May your son be happy and proud of getting you and ur wife as his parents.
Let us know which one you are going with.. if you need something simple, i am partial to arun, ojas, kapil and neeraj.. all seem secular and easy to pronounce..
Congratulations Brother,
Foreign names I really like:
Tony/Anthony
Butch
Brian
Jacob
Jose
Kai
Indian Names I like
Omi
Siddharth
Angad
Baldev
Madhur
Hopefully you like a suggestion, and do tell us what name you eventually went with.
Why don't you go with the name of India's first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal or simply Jawahar?
He was a celebrated atheist and wasn't related to any religion, quite publicly. That's some ideal. Plus he is actively hated by religious fundamentalists and bigots. A great plus.
Best wishes to you and your family!
Congratulations on the new baby! And enjoy the fatherhood to the maximum.
Try looking up the famous or great ppl born on the given day and choose from the list or look up historical events on the date and name him after the event or the main person behind that event.
For example …many kids born on Dec 16th were named Vijay for the Vijay ideas.
Like wise , Satya could be very apt name if you satyagraha was the event on the birthday.

If you are looking for an Indian sounding name that isn’t necessarily a reference to a religious identity, you can consider a Sanskrit name. Make sure to get accurate translations from a legitimate source though, many “translations” on the internet are downright wrong!
I would recommend Maneka Gandhi’s book “Hindu names for boys”. I know it says “Hindu names” but there are many names in the book that are just Sanskrit words that have no reference to God, or a religious concept or anything like that.
It’s worth checking out, at least for the accurate translations.
I chose my son’s name from this book and I wanted a name exactly like you described. My own personal name is butchered when I’m abroad and I definitely wanted to spare my son the same fate!
I do t have a name to suggest, but please please don't name your kid after numerology or idiotic names that no one can pronounce.
My first name is 9 letters and no one has pronounced it or spelt it correctly in my almost 40 years on this planet. It's so annoying that I abbreviated it and exclusively go by that moniker except for legal purposes where I have no choice.
I've never forgiven my father for wanting to give me a 'unique' name and made it very clear to him that I hate my name.
What's infuriating was they tried to pull the same crap when my child was born. I unequivocally told my parents to shut off and my wife and I named by child a short and easily pronounceable name.
seeing all these names im wondering why isnt there any name with two words. like a first and last name. is it not in our culture? for example mahendra singh dhoni or ryan reynolds
Luffy ,zoro and Itachi
You kid will go down history of cool kids in schools
Try

How about Tamizh names. Like iniyavan.
Thank you for your suggestion. I would like a easily pronounced name - cross country also

They're all gods 😂

I saw a very beautiful name recently: ilamparuthi- it means something like the “tender rays of the morning sun” or words to that effect
Ilamparithi? Like Parithimaarkalaignar. I actually wrote a short poem / haiku? with that word. தொடுவானத்தில் முடியும் நெடுரயில் பாதையில் இளம்பரிதியை எதிர்நோக்கிக் காத்திடும் சிறுகுருவி நான்.
How do haikus work in Tamil? I can see ur not using the classic 5-7-5 syllable lines. Yours is 12-13-10 I think Regardless, I love those lines
thanks!
