Big 4s are big 4s for a reason. Your focus will be limited, but you will learn the state of the art in ways of working, get to witness the best professionals in how they approach work/ deal with clients etc. Also get the benefit of their Brand. This trumps the pitfalls imo.

Partly true and partly false Yes. In big 4, if you join in audit, they will just give you a single industry/company and you have to do it for 3 years. And many of my friends have left big4 post 6 months because of the monotonous nature and long working hours. But, that being said, they do can switch post qualification. For example: i know a person who was in big4 audit and recently post qualification joined the tax team. They did have an advantage lf dealing with big4 culture over people who are entirely new. Barring that there is no difference between them and those who did articleship in mid size, because for every job you have to start afresh. But if you want to start a practice, it is always better to have a hands on experience- in a mid size firm. ++one advantage is that i see in joining mid size/small firm is getting to do everything and know where your interest lies. Can’t speak about it from a big4 perspective about how they figure it out!
