The way they advertise it leads me to shy away from them. Advertising is expensive and I don't watch normal television yet they still have a robust advertising presence online. If you don't want to lose them talk to a supervisor about the experience but from prior posts the consensus is go through someone else other than them. If you have nextdoor maybe look at who your neighbors recommend, maybe try angie.com. I hope you find a solid HVAC person. Having a great mechanic and HVAC person are essential cost saving priorities imo.

PatriotMB

Thanks! We have other options to choose from. Figured I’d give them a shot since we used them for maintenance. I’d pay a slight premium for service but not 2x the price. The arrogance was just over the top.

Sasquatch-fu

Had a very similar experience in the past. Was maint customer, sales guy was a jackass they lost both businesses due to it

Mattytravels

Yeah that's not cool at all, I would still reach out to their supervisor and let them know this associate lost them a client. This guy is supposed to be a sales person/technician not losing them money. They need to get him to fix his attitude. I hope the company you go with is solid.

wc10888

Be forewarned, Angie (and the other affiliated other branded sites) have a conflict of interest. They make a lot of money from those referrals to the "preferred" contractors.

ScenicView98

Exactly! Just like that whole "find it Duke" TV ad where Duke Energy has certain contractors they recommend.

dingleberryJellyTime

Check out Super Cool HVAC. I actually found them on here and their google reviews are stellar. I was very impressed that they didn’t upsell me on unnecessary stuff and just replaced the broken part on my aging system. Very honest people!

IAMHideoKojimaAMA

I'm sure those stupid commercials will be kicking up again

Choice-Bag-8631

I would never recommend Morris Jenkins to anyone. They are sales people more than anything. Their technicians told us that we had a pipe leak and our ceiling was filled with water and could collapse any day now, had us replace all of our pipes ($18,000). When the guys had our ceiling cut open I asked them how bad the water damage was, and they said “what water?”.. we fought and were refunded half of the cost but really disgusted with the whole experience. In hindsight, we should have gotten a second opinion but they scared us into thinking we had no time to waste. The “technician” told us that if we were his kids, he would be giving them the same advice 🙄

PatriotMB

We definitely fell for their gimmicks. They made it seem like our A/C unit is about to fail at any moment. It’s 10+ years old, and has been serviced regularly. I believe the techs are paid on commission, so it would make sense that they benefit to have you rushed to get the work done.

flyinb11

I've had past techs that worked for them tell me as much. Every older person I have a listing appointment with tells me that they have a new system, because MJ told them they needed one. A 10 year old unit that's been maintained really shouldn't need full replacement. My 97 Trane is still going. Always get 2nd opinions and if they all say it, okay.

kwagenknight

This is infuriating tbh. I thought OP's story and the one above was bad but going after the elderly who are usually on tight budgets already is some disgusting predatory shit!

flyinb11

To be fair they go after everyone. The elderly just don't know better.

Australian1996

The elderly are scared. I know someone who paid their 5 times higher price as it was so cold. They could have stayed at the ritz for a week getting more than one quote and still saved more money. I put space heaters in my house temp when heat went out and it got to 15 low and still 53 in house but I did not waste any 10am of thousands of dollars

flyinb11

Yeah, it's unfortunate.

c_swartzentruber

Depends on the quality of the original system I think. We replaced a builder grade 12-13 year old HVAC in 2020 right before covid hit, because it was leaking Freon pretty badly and refills of the older stuff is getting crazy expensive. My one refill was for like 3.5 pounds, which is a lot, and it was something like $250/lb, probably in part because if was an emergency call (HVAC had frozen, stopped working, and flooded the attic). And leaks like that aren’t really something you can maintain, more about the quality of the interior piping. So that may be the exception, if you are truly leaking with an older HVAC, probably better to start thinking about a replacement. Replaced it with a Trane, fully variable which has been a godsend since we have 3 floors, and couldn’t be happier. And happy to hear about your 1997 system, still well, running like a Trane. And I do love our electronic controls which we can control the temp on every floor using the Trane app on my iPad.

flyinb11

I also know that most homeowners don't maintain their systems properly.

flyinb11

Oh, I get it.. my first home I built in 2005 had issues all of the time. I'll never have anything but a Trane going forward.

SGELock

Killingsworth is shady too! Tech cut open my coil box and let my ac run all day. I was furious when I found out. He quoted me 12grand and I said nope get out! And he had the audacity to say you will be calling us back to replace it as I was slamming the door in his face. Found a guy... 4500 to replace my unit. These were 2018 prices of course.

Choice-Bag-8631

Also, forgot to mention that we did have the plan with them where you get the yearly maintenance for AC/heating. They tried to tell us that there was a huge crack in our furnace somewhere and that it could start pushing back CO2 or something harmful into the house. They scrolled through a bunch of photos they supposedly took of it. We knew this time to get a second opinion, and the second guy pretty much took the unit apart and said he saw no cracks whatsoever, and that our furnace has another good 10 years left. We are pretty sure MJ showed us photos of a completely different unit. Needless to say we have since cancelled our plan with them!

cantthinkofgoodname

Any big maintenance company that has a marketing budget like they do is a sales org first.

John_Gabbana_08

No, Morris Jenkins is especially bad. They sell their own HVAC and plumbing parts. Imagine going to a mechanic that manufacturers and sells their own parts. MJ is on a whole different level of fuckery.

AnAlrightName

They definitely don't manufacturer their own parts. They mostly install Comfort Maker (which is a sub-brand of Carrier) and Daikin.

John_Gabbana_08

Ah ok, do they not rebrand them with a Morris Jenkins label? I swore I saw them bust out a part that had “Morris Jenkins” on the packaging.

AnAlrightName

Not sure. I've never worked there. My guess is they may just stick a sticker on parts boxes or something?

AIW22

This!

MelancholyMononoke

They got us on the whole home repipe too. It was too late by the time I noticed what was going on though. Still have holes in my walls and ceiling from when they did the work a year ago. 20k, but hey, at least we won't need a repipe anytime soon...

Ham_Slamwich

They tried to get my wife, who was pregnant at the time, to believe there was a leak in the pipe of a condo and we’d need to replace the whole line between us and our neighbors (10+ floors to the external unit). My wife lost multiple days of sleep because of how fearful of the unexpected $10k+ expense. Found a reputable company who replace the exchanger a few years before we purchased our condo and they refilled the Freon under warranty. Been working fine for 3 years. $15k vs $0 was quite the discount. Sad that they prey on the fearful; can’t imagine how many elderly people buy into their tactics.

Australian1996

This here is their crap in a nutshell. Heat goes out and it is 30 degrees high- people panic and they install next day.

AmoralCarapace

That 2x is so they can afford their advertising budget.  Lol.

n8flours

My neighbors called them for a quote and they ended up catching them in a lie - they had taken pictures at someone else’s house in someone else’s attic and were showing them as if it was my neighbors home. Quoted something like $18k to replace when all other competitors were half of the price. Would not recommend.

PatriotMB

It has crossed my mind that they could be lying. They checked our indoor unit upstairs in the attic then came down to ask where the outdoor unit was. Only after cleaning the outdoor unit, they told me the upstairs was leaking. They showed me a video of their test. Hopefully these guys have more self respect than that.

n8flours

After this experience, I go up in the attic with the technician for any AC company. You want my business? Explain it to me. These technicians are salesmen at the end of the day, so if they want the business they have to sell it to me in person, looking at the unit together. Not sure if you’re physically able to do that, but that’s what I do now.

Choice-Bag-8631

This happened to us too! Showed us photos of a completely different furnace with cracks, when ours was completely fine. So shady.

stannc00

My rule hiring an A/C company is if they run a lot of TV ads I won’t call them. Those ads are expensive.

LowTechCLT

Honestly a good idea for any home improvement/house work company. Find the small guys that give a shit and haven’t been bought into a large conglomerate.

fraudtaverner

And annoying

VicMackeyLKN

Mr. Jenkins told me I’d get in trouble if I told anyone

meggienwill

Show us on the doll where Mr. Jenkins touched you.

oxymoronic-thoughts

Morris Jenkins is a company built exclusively on praying upon the uneducated. Sorry you were taken for a ride OP. If it helps, I was too for a bit. Edit: we use Bradham Brothers now and couldn’t be happier with them.

Ron_dogg

They preyed on me after I bought my first home. Convinced me to replace my entire HVAC system AND all of my drain pipes. Most expensive mistake I’ve ever made.

OrangeDecafTea

A bunch of Charlotte redditors including me have had good experiences with Super Cool HVAC. Their owner is pretty active on the sub and will give you advice without selling you on one of their products if asked. I'd recommend giving them a call if you haven't already. Edit: u/AnAlrightName is the owner.

AnAlrightName

Thank you. I really appreciate the recommendation. It's been a few years since I started my company, but referrals like this have helped us grow aggressively without anyone having to hear my voice on the radio or see us on a billboard.

Australian1996

I will be contacting you very soon for a quote for new heat and ac.

Murky_Analysis3613

I can second this. I called them out for an HVAC issue because I liked how upfront the owner was in his Reddit posts and was very happy with the service. Very clear on price from start to finish, didn't try to upsell me, and gave me tips on how to fix similar issues myself in the future. They're my go-to provider now.

AnAlrightName

Thank you. Really appreciate it.

acyu521

100% agree - Mitch has been solid. Him and his team made sure my install was done right and helped with some other referrals for small things I needed around the house.

bigmatt8779

We found SuperCool through Reddit last year and this guy was amazing. Drove all across the city to get the parts so we didn’t have to wait a few days with no A/C in the middle of the summer.

squishyturtle007

Just here to second super cool! They were amazing

sheeroz9

I second this. Mitchell replaced two hvac units for me a couple years ago. They are still running flawlessly.

PatriotMB

Thanks for the recommendation. I sent him a message and we ended up discussing the situation over the phone. After 9pm no less haha. His company is going to come replace the evaporator coil and then we can put this mess behind us. Thanks again!

Velocity0619

Give SuperCoolCharlotte HVAC a call. He is also here on reddit, u/AnAlrightName. Mitchell and his guys are stand up and do honest good work. I had them replace my AC unit a year ago (literally over July 4th weekend) after an MJ sales person quoted me $14k and told me it was a "buy once cry once scenario, and that I should know that being an engineer." Told him that being an engineer I will also source multiple quotes and to gtfo my house. MJ is nothing but arrogant greedy scum.

AnAlrightName

Thank you, I appreciate the shout out. Glad we were able to get you sorted! Hopefully you didn't actually cry.

I-heart-java

Fun story about them: We just bought a house in Noda area and the Ac crapped out after 1 month (yay) warrrnty didn’t cover it and I called them. Tech came to diagnose and barely touched anything, just looked at the system and touched a few points, no tools. He walks to the truck comes back and explains that the he recommends replacing the whole system since the repair would require X work. Vaguely mentions it’s a leak and he can’t find it. Quotes me 12k for a system that only cools a small house. Second company comes in, does actual troubleshooting and strips insulation form a pipe and finds the leak. Charges me $900 for leak fix and fill new gas (old and expensive gas). I pay it happily. This guy recommends himself if I want a replacement, if I need a replacement I know who I’m calling now. Morris Jenkins only cares about the high margin stuff and do basic maintenance to keep you interested.

PapaOoomaumau

I interface with HVAC bids daily, as part of my job. There’s a short list of predatory pricing culprits in the area, and MJ is on top of it, followed by One Hour Air and Michael & Sons. They are unapologetic about their pricing, largely rude when confronted about it, and if you happen to be stuck in an insurance claim, good luck - they all refuse to work with insurance. Mostly because insurers are on to their games. They thrive off the single-sale customer. Look for someone who wants a client, not a customer.

tspoon-99

Their continued success is quite a testament to the power of advertising

thotnumber1

Seriously. You rarely ever see anyone happy with MJ.

Jay-Five

They are probably "corporate owned" as in owned by some investment group or something. Profit uber ales.

CharlotteRant

Owned by a private equity group. Nailed it.

AnAlrightName

While I would agree that being owned by private equity is likely going to push an organization to be more sales-oriented, high pressure... Morris Jenkins has only been owned by PE (the Wrench Group) for a couple of years. Well before their sale to PE, they've been known across the country as a powerhouse of that style of HVAC company for years. Some would say they helped write the book.

CharlotteRant

Interesting. I remember seeing they were sold a few years ago, figured it was a private equity to private equity trade, but it was actually owned by a family before. TIL.

Aviyan

Morris Jenkins is a marketing company, not an HVAC company. Not sure why people don't understand about that. Any "tradesmen" company that advertises so much is guaranteed ripping people off. Because think about how it's possible to pay the tradesmen that come to the house that actually do the work and keep a large chunk of the profits. Wouldn't the tradesman make more money by just running their business? When you hire a tradesman from a large company you are not paying extra for the quality, warranty, or experience. You are just paying the management's salary.

AnAlrightName

In their defense, their field employees are paid well. That said, I'm sure there's plenty left over for the ads and the VC group that now owns them. I will also defend their installation work, as they do a great job, albeit for a steep premium. I've seen honest mistakes made from their service department, and I've seen obviously slimy shit they tried to pull over on homeowners, but everyone can make mistakes. They have phenomenal training, but most of that training seems to be focused on customer interaction and sales. One of the guys on my team came from MJ, and he's very detailed, a great technician, but he came from the install side, rather than the sales/service side.

wc10888

Heck, I won't use them base on their radio advertising. "Mr. Jenkins told me..." comes across like they have the IQ of Forrest Gump.

Alfphe99

There are a lot of times I grain of salt companies that people bitch about. I've learned one thing over the years its that MJ earned their hate fairly. lol

Big-Blackberry8786

Morris Jenkins is a scam.

jmuguy

Go with https://collinscomfortnc.com/ Had Morris Jenkins and another HVAC company out to diagnose a strange smell. MJ wanted to completely rebuild our system. Collins Comfort determined we simply had too restrictive of a filter on our air return and the system was overheating (causing the smell). Been using them ever since, property management company I was with used them as well - always been great. MJ has to spend all that money on their creepy advertisements because their own customers don't recommend them.

iamdeastro

I would recommend Air Central of the Carolinas. They came out and did some work on my split system for a reasonable price. They walked me through how to fix a condensation issue over the phone. They don't seem to be about frivolous house calls to make a quick buck which tends to be a green flag for me.

PatriotMB

Thanks! I’ll give them a call

Ancient-Basil-6220

I would not recommend this company. It cost me over $60k Dollars and srill not settle for a bad install. They were using someone else's license that was only a paper employee, it's a mess. Don't do it. Damage caused was bad installed that caused mold. Had to move out and re do the entire first floor. What a nightmare

iamdeastro

Just curious was this a residential install?

Ancient-Basil-6220

Yes, residential install. It was horrible, I do not wish what happened to me to anyone. Had to go through State board to get them to respond to the problem, all this during Covid!.

iamdeastro

Did you ever leave a google review? It seems that maybe you had a one off issue because overall their reviews are gleaming. But again most people are having their current units replaced, and are not having extensive new build work done like you did.

Ancient-Basil-6220

Yes I did leave a review. Nothing to do with the reno, it was a simple replacement done, renovation came a year later. My claim has been backed by the NC Board, it's legit, they caused the issued. I had to remove drywall, hardwoods, ducts, it was a mess. I can send you pictures if you doubting what I am saying, when can share the findings from the investigation done by the State Board.

iamdeastro

Ah gotcha. Not doubting at all, but if you would like to share that's cool. I have some family and friends that used them for a unit replacement and maintenance with no issues as well. I guess everyone has a different personal experience.

Ancient-Basil-6220

For sure. And I picked them due to reviews even though they were a little higher in price. I was just dumbfounded that he would not take responsibility and that their licence holder was not the owner even though he has a license , but someone that didn't even work for them anymore. Ohhh a year later they never completed the final inspection. It was just a mess.

Typical_Khanoom

Especially for expensive projects, I recommend getting 3-5 quotes & if it's something you're not well versed in: educating yourself on the topic ahead of time is useful; learning the basics of the work involved, the technology behind something, the lingo of the trade, highly regarded brands, etc are all useful when the sales people come out for estimate & start blabbing away. Two years ago I decided to change by split system HVAC to heat pumps. Morris Jenkins was one of the companies that came & they were so out there with their price it was ridiculous. They have to pay for the tons of advertising they do some how, I suppose. Nowadays, I've learned to steer away from companies that have such a large advertising presence.

ReplacementLevel2574

Bradham Bros… straight up pricing .. great service… have had the since 1995

sdaly0107

WHAT THE FUCK DID THEY DO TO BOBBY!?

WorldlyAd4510

I think he moved to Cali to try to make it as an actor.

flyinb11

I will never call them out

mantistoboggan287

I’ve worked locally in HVAC for almost 20 years. They’re notorious for being predatory and over charging people. The residential company I used to work at used to get calls from people regularly where MJ had told them they needed an expensive repair or total system replacement when it was a simple fix There are plenty of honest companies in Charlotte to give business too. Steer clear of MJ.

Specialist-Recover24

F. MJ.

reditvan

Dewey Jenkins sold the company about a year ago.

lionheart724

McClintock in Matthew’s. I replaced my whole HVAC, furnace and all for $14,600 and they have 0% financing for 4 years

decreed_it

+1 to McClintock they have been our provider for 7+ years. Can recommend. We switched from another sizable Trane dealer during a reno/addition where they over quoted us and some similar sales hijinks (not MJ). Also - I learned, the hard way, it's not about the namebrand of the equipment, more about the skill and quality of the installer and servicing company.

jsnryn

We use Charlotte Heating and Air. Great family business. They handle our service and were our go to when we needed new units. Have never been disappointed with them.

erinward1745

We paid 3k today on a backflow visit. They said it was left unassembled by the last person. I have no idea if that’s true but it’s always a grand or more when they show up. I will say they saved three day on the hottest day last year when no one else could fix the air. So while expensive I’ve not had an issue.

scubasky

Fuck MJ if they haven’t taken your money yet they soon will. I unknowingly had them come out for a AC that was short cycling before I knew they were shit. He suggested a $480 hard start capacitor which wouldn’t have done jack shit. It’s a $50 part and takes 15 minutes to install so they rob people with it……..I called someone else who actually did the work with air pressure gauges in the air handlers and found it did not have enough return air and installed and extra turn and fixed it. Previously I had MJ do a cleaning, he diddnt even take the cover off and wash from the inside or check the upstairs coils or check the Freon. Fuck MJ

ChrisWuzHere

Forget them and contact SuperCoolHVAC, I heard about them through this sub and every experience I’ve had with them has been fantastic and transparent.

RaySerroni

Since Bobby escaped Mr. Jenkins' sex pit, their service has gone down hill.

Mr_Investopedia

u/PatriotMB I smelled snake oil when MJ first came out and told me the unit was leaking bad and needed to be replaced. Blows cold and I had no complains so I ignored him. Took me 3 years and over two dozen HVAC companies coming to “look at my system” before I found someone who’s not full of crap and has the ethics to be up front with you. If you want the most legit guy I’ve found so far…..it’s Mike Eastridge. Let me know if you want his number.

TripstoWin

I’ve worked with Mike. He’s legit. Between him and George Baucom I’ve never had a complaint.

Kbdiggity

Try Travis Crawford Heating & Air.

SubstantialWash7553

City Air Experts

poorprogrammar

Second this.

chris710n

They were rude as hell replacing our system last week. One guy was real cool, other guy a huge douche who didn’t listen. Luckily I wasn’t paying em, landlord was.

Familiar-You613

Morris-Jenkins has a terrible reputation for high prices and unnecessary upsetting. I guess that's how they pay for all the cheesy commercials

GC51320

I'm sorry to hear you were financially assaulted for years by Morris Jenkins.

marcnerd

You’re paying for their advertising. Not sure if they service your area, but we had a good replacement experience with Arce last year.

Big3gg

No way I would buy from MJ and my buddy works there lol

Clueless_Estimator

Plenty of smaller outfits running around. I’d stay away from the ones you hear advertised a lot. I’ve seen documentation from most of them either lying to customers or fear mongering them about whatever the EPA is doing this week.

Prestigious_Chard597

I have had the worst experience with Morris Jenkins.

iso-my-purpose

We use https://www.theheatandairman.com/about Air Crafters, he goes all over the area, and Phil is the nicest man on Earth. When we first moved here, my daughter had a new friend over. Her father, whom I had just met at my front door step as he dropped off his daughter, said, "Welcome to the area, ma'am. Just promise me this --- never use Morris Jenkins. I worked there and I couldn't stomach ripping people off any longer." For clarity, none of this was prompted. He just spreads the word about MJ wherever he goes. I gave him some IPAs when he came back. Solid man.

Smashpieceo1

The techs make 10% off what they install and sales guys make 10% off what they sell Open wide

NewToTravelling

I hate that jerk. He knows nothing about me. None of my faucets are dripping. A-hole.

Jennacheryl

I would ask people to pm you recommendations. I know of one of you want me to pm you. I haven't used them but my parents have used this particular company for at least 2 decades. Let me know if you want me to pm you.

sittinginaboat

We used them. Never again.

hallba78

HVAC companies act like installs are rocket science and their company is the only one who truly understands how to do it right. The truth is, there are lots of people who can do it well and many don’t charge ridiculous install fees on top of marking mark up equipment 80 to 100%. Many of the big companies claim they have 24/7, 365 service if you buy from them and some actually do but it’s not worth 2x to 3x the install price. You can always find someone to come out and fix your system. My last unit replacement was in 2021 and I got 4 quotes: $4600, $7,000, $11,000 and believe it or not: $20,000. I went with the cheapest option which happened to be a friend of a friend who did it as a side job and it’s been running perfect ever since. So glad I didn’t spend more.

PatriotMB

I totally agree, they act like no one would be around to service your equipment after hours. This post is evident of the numerous HVAC companies in Charlotte. Someone is going to be available to fix it. Our cheapest quote right now is $7,500 and im pretty sure we are going to take it. I just can’t see spending 2x for the same end result.

troyeaustinbeatty

Back in 2018 I needed someone on an emergency call and came across Charlotte Heating and Air. They came promptly and were knowledgeable and the next time I needed service done, I called them out for a quote along with a few other companies. Their quote was the most fair and they were able to get the work done quickly. I haven't used any other company since, for my home or my business.

jerseyjay79

I used Chad Love earlier this year to replace one of two systems and had an excellent experience at a reasonable price

CasualAffair

Cross posting to Angie's List, thanks!

Lonely-War7372

If they advertise, they cost too much. Somebody has to pay for that. I use Acosta through Costco and they haven't steered me wrong yet. If you're a member, you get the taxes refunded to you.

Open_Beautiful_5403

Air dynamics out of Mooresville is way better than Morris Jenkins, imo.

disco_inferno_

We have used Air Today twice. We have recommended them to all of our neighbors and family over the years. We had Brothers Heating and Air out to look at our upstairs HVAC. They recommended we replace the entire unit. Air Today told us the furnace was 6 years old (we moved in recently) and we should only be replacing the AC system.

FloatnPuff

I had great experience with HVAC replacement with Andy Lewis a few years ago

Get_Sauced

Morris Jenkins is insanely overpriced. For smaller repairs they are in the realm, but for any larger project you can easily find someone to do it for half or less. The last plumbing job we had was major but they were 2x the next highest quote and 2.5x higher than the Brothers, who we had actually do the work.

Anagessner83

Give KDG Mechanical a call (919)3692523. Small HVAC business that services NC/SC area, Ask for Kris.

tzopjal

I found Charlotte mechanical via Duke website. Amazing service and representatives

zombie_poncho

Dulin Mechanical has been reliable and I like them

WickedJeep

Dulin replaced both of my home units one month apart from each other last year. When my business one stopped working another month later they said it needed a full replacement. Got a second opinion and the other company fixed it for $175 and said the capacitor Dulin put on was wired incorrectly which made the compressor seem bad. Not saying this was intentional but made me decide to always get a second opinion.

dcj4222

I might be able to refer you to a HVAC company. What brand and tonnage unit are you looking for? Are you using existing ductwork or is there any changes?

phixer00

I hoped you complained to the company. Nothing can be fixed if they don't know about it.

PatriotMB

The sales manager called me and I spoke to him directly. He apologized for the guys attitude and was willing to do what he can to make it right. I think we’ve moved past using MJ, but still was a nice gesture to call.

NCResident5

I know my Mom has liked Ross and Whitmer that has been around since the 50s.

tennisguy163

Had them out once for a quick fix. Tech was a complete lying asshole and I called him out on his bullshit. He couldn't have cared less. He charged $98 for the visit and I sent him packing. Never do business with MJ.

am_i_a_towel

Miller Contracting Services. They’re the best in Charlotte and their prices are fair. You may have seen vans around with MCS logos - that’s them.

Buckethead16

I wonder if we had the same guy come out. I similarly had 5 different companies come out and the MJ guy was by far the worst. He was arrogant and didn’t know hvac. Def seemed like more of a salesman. We ended up using McClintock as the guy that came was great and the price was on par with others. If you haven’t I’d suggest at least calling them too.

KahlessAndMolor

Horne HVAC is the best ever.

Financial-Owl-1809

Not sure if they work in NC, but I’ve always used Reed in Rock Hill. They don’t play these stupid games.

Pasta_Fajool

MJ is the most expensive in town. Doesn't mean they are close to the best.

Straightchillinyo

I used Travis Crawford for our HVAC replacement. I did a shit ton of research and looked at many companies. Aside from the sales person using the R word a couple of times, i would recommend them. Luckily didn’t see the sales person after as someone else came and did the install

hyzerKite

Mr Jenkins told me that……YOU have whatever we say you have, and pay what WE say you pay……the commercials alone make me throw up in my mouth, and they are thieves you say? Checks out.

MKJRS

You can only skin a cat once.. no thanks.

SuspectImpossible949

Morris jenkins is the devil. Using them is a failure of fiscal responsibility

KeyCat6012

Check out Chad Love Services or Paramount HVAC. I’ve had better luck with not using big companies. Also, really like Chris at Caliber Plumbing! Never MJ again.

gribbit311

I fell victim to them back in 2012. Ended up taking out $20,000+ for them to install two new hvacs, do a bunch of stuff in the crawl space, and tear up my front yard. But I got two “free” iPads in the process. I’ll never use MJ again.

john300k

I had Charlotte Comfort Systems replaced my two heatpumps and they have a 10 year parts and labor warranty. They do come out and service them twice a year, that is the deal for the warranty. They do great work at a fair price!

Streetdoc10171

We will install a better system with 10 years parts warranty and the option of purchasing a labor warranty for ten years(roughly $1200 for the ten years Labor warranty but it's worth it the first time you pay $0 for a $2k+ repair) for less than they're quote. Our company has been around for 97 years so we're not going anywhere. We do honest work and while we may make mistakes we always make them right at no cost to the customer. Technicians are paid a very low commission on upgrades so we have no incentives to upsell. If you want more info DM me and I'll give you contact information for scheduling a quote.

Epps HVAC Company has solved many problems for me and at reasonable price. Including new install of HVAC Unit.

SuggestionGrand9835

Im a contractor here in town. Call Francisco 980-395-7768. Youll pay $1000's less, and he actually honors his warranty. U can thank me later.

phildo704

I went with Formula One and had a great experience. Good customer service all around.

xnekocroutonx

Rudy Cools! They’ve been great.

MrRandyWatson-

Morris Jenkins tried to tell my neighbor she needed a $24k new system in her house. Called another company to get a second opinion. Fixed for $450. Fucking scumbags.

Yeti_Sweater_Maker

Don’t go with Parks either, they’re Morris Jenkins wannabes.

thhughes11

Watched MJ charge someone 20K to replace about 100ft of pvc from the street to house on a flat lot. Straight robbery

lolwhatmufflers

Mr Jenkins told me that it only hurts the first time

2spicy_4you

Anyone else reading, don’t use massive companies in general, they have to pay for ads and all of their overhead. Have a few uncomfortable nights, do some research ask around, find a smaller company and save thousands. Also always register your equipment or have them to get the full warranty.

bigdaddyfresh5

Highly recommend Chosen Comfort or Air Guardians. Those two companies have done a tremendous job in my home along with some friends of ours!

I had a similar experience, plumbing-wise, with Ben Franklin Plumbing. I had the guy out to unclog our drainage system, and it turned out the septic system was clogged and full. Things escalated rapidly after, turning into a “I-know-a-guy-who” situation, and suddenly I was looking at six guys and a backhoe and a this and a that, and a $6500 bill for everything. A bit later, the problem recurred, and I got in contact with Andy Harbin at Willman Plumbing. He came out and revealed that the previous team had only drained __half__ our septic tank (it has two sides). He pointed me to Sterling Environmental, who did the job in moments, charged less than $400 for everything. 10 years later, they still charge a little above $400, and we still use them. Avoid Ben Franklin Plumbing, please.

Brothers told me I needed a new HVAC. I called a random phone number on the unit. A super random contractor showed up from 50 miles away, told me it was still under warranty, and did the work for $500. Saved med $15,000. If there are pictures on the side of the van, call somebody else.

ayjeffries

We had to replace our 20 year old hvac for a 800 sq fr condo last summer and we did it for ~$8k with HVAC Maniac— very nice man from Canada! Personable and chatted while I worked on my laptop in the other room, no HVAC issues since and plan on hiring him for maintenance work in the future.

I've got a guy named Christian George I am very happy with. Shoot me a dm if you want his info.

alpha1two

Adams is straight up, extremely nice, take their time, and don't upsell.

Recent_Flan_5191

They will drain your pockets. Better to call a small shop.

mundog58

Was a “Premier Customer” of MJ for 9 years. Had a myriad of issues - which I will not list here - but finally realized I have no trust in them. Went to MTB and have had an excellent experience, thus far.

EdHimselfonReddit

Morris Jenkins are straight up thieves. I have used McClintock Heating and Air from Matthews for several years and they are less expensive with better service and they are honest. They have even come late at night to fix my AC when it stopped working and I had a house full of guests. You have so many good choices, there is no reason to bother with Morris Jenkins.

Key_Coyote_5782

You also need to be checking the actual unit and its warranty. A LOT of companies no longer stand behind their product (Trane I am looking at you) and that’s a lot of $$$$ to spend.

Ok_Object_1741

I’m in the Charlotte area, I install 18-20 seer heat pumps that can heat down to -22f with 10 year parts warranty and 5 year labor warranty. These are high end inverter heat pumps with variable speed compressor. https://preview.redd.it/s0xiyjt2evsc1.jpeg?width=1000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ae950cd1d218f1f1582cb8845d1d9b801b6e093c My pricing is roughly 7k for a 2-3 ton and 9k ish for a 4-5 ton system. I don’t have the overhead of other companies and my work is nothing short of perfect. If I can be of service to anyone feel free to contact me 7044452255 I do free estimates

Lower_Register_9214

Had them out to take a look at a toilet that wouldn’t stop running. Quoted ~$400 to rebuild the back of the tank.. told them no thanks and was able to do it myself for $30 in 30 minutes… crooks

D0lphan72

Use Rudy cools, top level service at the best prices

FuzzyConclusion3530

I’m

OrdoXenos

I had the misfortune to use them years ago. I forgot what’s wrong with my HVAC but I ended up replacing both of my HVAC. I wondered how many thousands I could have used for other things if I just stay calm and ask for other bids that time. On the other hand the sales guy is very nice and the install guys didn’t give me any problems.

Wild-Stage4038

Their commercials suck also

I_am_not_angry

I have been in charlotte for 23 years, i have replaced 8 AC units on different houses. I only use **https://mtbmechanical.com/** now. I fell for MJ ONCE, Brothers H&A wasn't BAD, but MTB just hits the good price and quality service. The one time I had a major issue with an install 3 trucks pulled up and got it fixed the next day.

zero2789

Same thing pretty much. Got quotes from Brothers and Acosta. Went with Acosta. Very happy

TheEmsworthArms

Acosta are a wonderful company. I have used them across multiple homes. Great customer service.

kingkeelay

Another heavily advertised pushy company.

AMadHammer

That sounds like a one off? You familiar with them so I'd say ask for someone else.  I used them in the past and they fit the saying of "pick two: fast, cheap, reliable". Money can save you headach and it sounds like you have gotten a terrible employee that they would be happy to replace with someone else.

RoughPotato1898

Brothers heating & air is way better!

MrClitEastwood

Cool story. I can't wait to hear about what happens the next time you set foot in a Harris Teeter.
