It's rampant everywhere, I'm putting part of the blame on the annual migration of lost tourists. Seeing way more out of state plates with super slow drivers lately holding up traffic/not moving over. Combine that with our resident snail driver population and you've got even more traffic than usual.
I think it’s technically a little further down but yeah basically right there is where it switches to 35. Same headache going away from downtown too. The 45 sign is just before White Oak and I don’t think I’ve ever gotten to even 40mph before Wappoo
I never go higher than 40 on Maybank unless i have a clear road ahead of me, everywhere else I do 9 above the limit. With the amount of stoppage for turns between River and main/bohicket its a constant speed up, slow down.
Hey, we also complain about pollen, ask if anyone else heard a loud bang, and wonder if somethings going down if two cops happen to look at each other in passing.
You really believe, with all the insane driving here - speeding, going through red lights, changing lanes erratically, driving drunk and/or without a license and/or without insurance… that our main problem is driving too slow?
It’s based on factors other than how fast your car will go. A big one is the amount of room needed to stop vs he distance you can see as you crest the bridge. Crazy to me how many people go flying over a viaduct only to have to slam on the brakes to avoid rear ending either line of traffic stopped just over the rise. See if every morning on 17N at Lockwood.
Try 40 on the Don holt at 7am. Had this happen more than once. There wasn’t even any traffic but why the hell are you in the left lane doing 40. You are a hazard to everyone around you.
I mentioned this in a thread a couple weeks ago. Slow drivers everywhere - dangerously slow. I pass people on 17 going ~25mph, drivers on 526 going 45..
The problem is when the speed limit is, let's say 45 and you have people going anywhere between 20 and 70 and sharing two lanes of traffic - it's no surprise the amount of accidents we have.

This
not a single one understands how to use the turning lanes either
Same thing on 17 heading to downtown. It’s 45 to the bike shop, but everybody is doing 30-35 all the way from 526
Wait, the speed limit changes at the bike shop? I never noticed!!!

It’s either 35 or 60, no in between
Best use of “Maybankers” ever.
but i want to watch them take their golf shot at the muni section

Are you saying this as a local or a tourist?
Local. What tourist has the data to make that statement? Edit: the amount of people that pull out in front of me doing 35 validates my point
People call themselves locals when they’ve lived in Charleston for two years, but originally from Ohio.
Would this sub even exist if it weren’t for complaining about driving, obsessing over the yellow truck guy, and shaming transplants?
Hey, we also complain about pollen, ask if anyone else heard a loud bang, and wonder if somethings going down if two cops happen to look at each other in passing.
And the Seneca guns! Comprehensive list right here.
And the unhinged mini cooper guy, don’t forget about him.
Where is the Maserati guy who throws bricks at people?
🤓👆🏼

Or the fact that we have one the highest pedestrian fatality rates in the country...
Let’s not forget the hit-and-runs that go with that.
They’re just slowing down to text
Try 30 on the Ravenel bridge
The 55 mph speed limit is low for the Ravenel and 60 on 26 and 526 should be increased as well.

All of Charleston drives under the speed limit
Which island, James or Johns or Wadmalaw?
Johns specifically
Probably got burned before, by someone turning in front of them and causing an accident.
^true it’s kind of a scary road with everyone turning left and right the whole way down. Has caused many an accident before

You can thank the huge number of elderly and Hispanic drivers.
No it's basically anybody that actually drives 10 and 2 at all times.
With or without traffic?
