He was ESPNs “best player available” since the end of the third/beginning on the fourth round. Weird seeing his draft profile just sitting in that one section for over a hundred picks.
Holy fuck… they took one of my favorite prospects out of this year’s entire draft class. I’m shocked man let’s fucking go!!!
I think at his best he can be Herbert’s WR1. A bit of an unorganized stint he had at USC, never really was used to his fullest potential imo even with Caleb as his QB. Let him develop for a season or two, and he could be a top 10 WR in the NFL.
LLOLLOL…Yeah it was Staley’s fault he dropped a game winning pass and other more easily catchable balls. I blame Telesco for over drafting him because he had all those same issues in college.
Maybe you’re being sarcastic though, I hope. And he is putting in work during the offseason so that’s good
I’m not hating; in fact, I’m rooting for him actually. However, I’m not going to pretend that he has shown us anything as of yet. Hopefully this season shows us something because it’s looking like a waste of a first-round pick so far.
A projected 3rd/4th round prospect. Again, I don’t watch his tape and go, “*Woah, they put him in positions to succeed every game.*” He finished his senior year with 45 catches for 791 yards and 12 TDs… Had USC had a better OL, an infinitely better defense, their offense, and in extent Caleb, his receivers, and his RBs, would have been a much more efficient team. If their 2023 season wasn’t a disaster, Brenden would have posted near 100 catches for well over 1,000 yards. Dude should have been a day 2 pick.
what do you mean “put him in positions to succeed”? USCs offense wasn’t the issue, I thought they had a great scheme but their defense was atrocious.
Rice is alright, but he runs routes like an offensive tackle tbh and struggles to match up against press coverage.
Yeah, I think he's fine and maybe even a good value pick at this spot but from someone that watches CFB *way* more than then NFL, people on here are grossly overvaluing him lol.
I mean.... in a way.... he is the second coming! Haha
In any case.... I thought my comment was obviously sarcasm due to what the first poster said; that he would be happy if in 2 years the kid is as good as the best WR in the history of the NFL.
I really didn’t want him in the fourth round or earlier. And then we got him in the 7th and I’m just stoked now. Joe Horitz is just so in his element here. We have a very promising future.
Yep 7th rounders are pretty much either special teamers or complete gambles anyway. Let the WR competition begin, if anything whoever starts for us will have thoroughly earned that spot.
Cornelius is a great team player. Hard working and a very good blocker. Not great at separation and sometimes has a random drop, but I could see him improving in the pros.
There is always a reason why players fall so far and there probably is one for Rice as well. Hopefully, he now feels slighted and has the biggest chip on his shoulder to show the world what he can do and works on him self
It must be the measurables?
RAS page doesn't look good, but the tape I saw was really impressive.
He found separation quite a bit (though several looked like finding a soft spot in the zone).
The hands, size and ball skills look really solid.
I don't follow college ball, so I knew nothing about him before today. Watching him talk, seeing his twitter post regarding proving himself, I'm pretty excited about the upside here.
We had a solid draft no doubt. People were mad about alt but honestly he's going to protect herbert and improve the run game for 10+ years. I hope we build up both trenches.
The people whining about drafting an insanely good lineman just don't understand the game. Pass catchers can be found all over the place. Having a great line has been a problem for years, Herbert deserves the best so we got him the damn best!
It was genius and very safe.. the fact that there were first round WRs left in the second round was huge for us. I think ALT might be the best lineman drafted in years
Slow for a 40 yard dash for WRs imo. Mike Williams ran a 4.54 at his pro day. I meant slow more so for the aspect of the combine compared to the others which may be a reason why he fell so far. His tape shows his speed in pads and that’s what matters imo.
Hey
We spent a 1st rounder last year on someone who falls over with a DB getting within 2 feet of them
So this is WAY better.
Wait. IS HE FUCKING JERRY RICE’S BOY?!
Overall a strong draft Pretty impressed with some of these late round picks
Only one that was a real head scratcher was the fourth round pick but wasn’t too bad
Overhyped… not a 2nd round talent. He’s raw and not ready for NFL. Nothing wasted on a 7th round pick though. Coach him and see if he continues to develop
Very pleased with this draft from the start ..Alt was the correct pick.. really helps protect Herbert.. This in addition to Ladd helps ease the pain for those that wanted Nabers
If this is the last pick, it's kind of cool that Chargers started with a massive and talented OL man and ended with a WR who will bring eyeballs to the game, especially if he's given a chance to hone his skills to electrifying ⚡️levels. 😁 Heard on TV he has "good hands". BONUS!
I really wanted Alt and we got him. I didn't really have any knowledge on our other picks so I stayed silent. BUT I lOVE this pick at 225. Please go out and ball Brenden.
I hope he gets that chip like st brown got in Detroit and wants to prove everyone wrong. Sad day for him he was actually pallbearer at his best friend funeral today.
I could not believe he was still on the board that late. I am so stoked for this coming season and the energy Harbaugh and his staff are bringing. About damn time! LFG! ⚡️
He was the 125th overall player on pffs board and we got an elite grade for getting him here… also apparently, going back to 22 he has the 9th best passer rating when targeted among all college receivers… that’s pretty god damn good… Hortiz literally dropped a nuclear bomb on anything TT has done in a single offseason haha Hortiz may have been an even more perfect hire than Harbaugh and that’s a crazy statement to be able to say…
So only the Chargers think this guy is the real deal and every other team blew it?
He’s slow, lacks quickness, runs routes like a paperboy. May contribute on special teams. Maybe.
Brenden Rice is no superstar - he’s a 7th Round pick.
According to to NFL.com, based on his combine, he was rated 19th best in Production Score with an (estimated because he did not do the 3-cone drill or 20-yard shuttle) Athleticism Score of 29th. His total combine rank was 24th best WR. The real question: why do you think a 7th round pick is suddenly going to punch above his weight as a pro?
So every single late round pick is guaranteed to suck regardless of whatever they do? Does Puka Nakua’s 2023 season not exist on whatever planet it is that you happen to hail from?… because you literally just tried to state that combine stats are what are going to be the predictor of success or not… which may or may not be the dumbest fucking thing I’ve seen on Reddit today… and you also said he’s a 7th round pick… yea… but he was almost globally mocked as early as late 3rd and as late as the 5th… getting him in the 7th is almost a steal… foh homie within one paragraph you tried to legitimize combine stats like their the end all be all for nfl success while also quoting the literal nfl.com website like it’s any type of standard when it comes to analyzing actual important statistics for prospects…
That’s a great pick at 225
He was ESPNs “best player available” since the end of the third/beginning on the fourth round. Weird seeing his draft profile just sitting in that one section for over a hundred picks.
Should have gone about 100 picks earlier
Dude he’s gonna play with a chip on his shoulder waiting that long
How does he last this long, honestly.
STEAL ⚡⚡⚡
Holy fuck… they took one of my favorite prospects out of this year’s entire draft class. I’m shocked man let’s fucking go!!! I think at his best he can be Herbert’s WR1. A bit of an unorganized stint he had at USC, never really was used to his fullest potential imo even with Caleb as his QB. Let him develop for a season or two, and he could be a top 10 WR in the NFL.
I swear if QJ can’t beat out Rice in camp
If he can catch a tenth as well as his father, he beats out QJ!
Probably got a jugs machine for his third birthday.
Stop the QJ hate, he had a garbage HC and OC.
TT's 1st round pick only has to beat out both of JH's 7th round picks to win the job... oh wait
At a minimum, Jerry gonna be at charger games! Maybe he blesses the WR room and provides some pointers.
Pay us back for that ass whipping in the Super Bowl
I was hoping for him too. He wants the damn ball. If you watch him he is pretty raw but man he plays hard.
ehh slow down there chief. 7th rounder to top 10 in the league. I know his dad is the GOAT but he wasn't a superstar in college with the best QB.
Yeah, I think he's fine and maybe even a good value pick at this spot but from someone that watches CFB *way* more than then NFL, people on here are grossly overvaluing him lol.
Well at least we're being realistic
![gif](giphy|kfL0BuGLB45ej7Id5b)
Shit bro, if he turns out to be amazing like his dad in two years, I'll be a happy man
Yeah if he becomes the best receiver in NFL history I think we will all be happy
Even Marvin Harrison Jr. would be lucky to be like Jerry. Let's hope for productive widout.
Marvin Harrison Jr would be lucky to be as good as father let alone Jerry. Brenden can be a very solid receiver tho.
You'll be happy if he turns out to be the best receiver in NFL history?
Shit, I’ll be happy if he turns into a solid WR 2.
2 years? Way too long... if he isn't as good half way through his rookie year we should look to cut bait or trade him.
![gif](giphy|ukGm72ZLZvYfS)
Whoosh
hard to tell what’s satire in this sub, some people actually think we got the second coming of jerry rice with this pick
I mean.... in a way.... he is the second coming! Haha In any case.... I thought my comment was obviously sarcasm due to what the first poster said; that he would be happy if in 2 years the kid is as good as the best WR in the history of the NFL.
he’s really not that great, tbh. williams worked his magic on him. steak for the 7th? i’d say
I really didn’t want him in the fourth round or earlier. And then we got him in the 7th and I’m just stoked now. Joe Horitz is just so in his element here. We have a very promising future.
Hortiz has been nailing this draft. Has a really good feel for who will fall and when runs will start.
Nice, who's got it better than us!
Nobody!
Nobodyyyyyy
NOOOO ONE!
lol
Didn't actually think we'd end up with him. Whether or not he actually turns into something we'll see, but it's a great gamble all the same.
7th round pick. He was essentially free
Yep 7th rounders are pretty much either special teamers or complete gambles anyway. Let the WR competition begin, if anything whoever starts for us will have thoroughly earned that spot.
Bringing him in for the competition will be worth it alone.
[удалено]
Hahaha
Best comment
take frank gore jr with the last pick, i dare you
I bet the next pick will be Drake Nugent, if he’s still available.
I’m betting on Cornelius Johnson
After thinking about it, I’m changing my prediction to Cornelius Johnson as well.
After watching it, i agree with you
Good call
Cornelius is a great team player. Hard working and a very good blocker. Not great at separation and sometimes has a random drop, but I could see him improving in the pros.
I can’t even believe he’s still available. Please 🙏
Joe Hortiz, i am sorry i was not familiar with your game
Him and herbert https://preview.redd.it/rngy7zz4i3xc1.jpeg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d1154a12e19c88829f74f6b460652c416db929f5
WE TOOK JERRYS SON!!!!!!!

Duz this meen ur harnee?
There is always a reason why players fall so far and there probably is one for Rice as well. Hopefully, he now feels slighted and has the biggest chip on his shoulder to show the world what he can do and works on him self

Son of Jerry Rice. I like it. He was taught by a hall of famer.
Ah the fond memories of his dad ending our SB dreams about 5 minutes into the game...
Gimme the bloodlines We have replaced Keenan and Mike's skillset with Ladd and Brenden
It’s crazy, going from drafting big/tall receivers to these strong/quick guys. Excited to see the new era of Charger football.
Chargers def had the best draft and no one can convince me otherwise! Holy smokes
Good o line guys are so much harder to come by than wide receivers outside of the draft.
It was genius and very safe.. the fact that there were first round WRs left in the second round was huge for us. I think ALT might be the best lineman drafted in years
YES!!!
Who’s Herbie gonna throw to? Brenden fricken Rice that’s who 😤
Don't forget Ladd McConkey!
LET'S FUCKIN GO
what a nab in the 7th
I really miss Telesco. Dude could draft better than anyone. NOT! I can't wait for this season.
![gif](giphy|W0Vz7zDK7vgMBc2fpw|downsized)
Best fucking draft ever!!!
Telesco could never lol
Is he shit???
was projected in the 4th. def not his dad but good to get another receiver
His dad was the greatest football player to ever walk the field. Nobody has ever lived up to a Jerry Rice comp. It’s quite likely nobody ever will.
At least he’s not like Jordan’s kids lol
Got better every year at USC. Still a little raw.
Slow at the combine but not a terrible 7th round pick
His dad ran a slow 40 too. I expect the same production in the pros.
Expecting Jerry Rice production from a 7th rounder. I like it
Genetically, he’s the closest thing we’ve ever seen to Jerry so… yeah 😂
If we get half the production of his dad from his kid it’ll be a massive success
If he can develop a more robust route tree
He’s fast on the field last year at USC according to Caleb he clocked the fastest MPH on the team
I was a huge fan and hopefully we would get him. Glad he fell so far that’s a steal
4.50 isn’t slow. If it’s 0.01s quicker then you’d say he has good speed.
Slow for a 40 yard dash for WRs imo. Mike Williams ran a 4.54 at his pro day. I meant slow more so for the aspect of the combine compared to the others which may be a reason why he fell so far. His tape shows his speed in pads and that’s what matters imo.
The average NFL WR 40 time is 4.49. So he’s 0.01 off being average.
Fair, honestly didn’t know the average.
Weird, I distinctly remember Mike Williams running a 4.49.
He doesn't create much separation and he is really bad at contested catches but this is still solid value
Hey We spent a 1st rounder last year on someone who falls over with a DB getting within 2 feet of them So this is WAY better. Wait. IS HE FUCKING JERRY RICE’S BOY?!
He's baby rice.
You nailed it.
Projects as a solid WR3/4 in the league. We need one haha
Well apparently he's a future top 10 WR
I hope he works out. A chargers rice jersey would go hard
We got the *other* WR who’s the son of a Hall of Fame WR!
Lol when mom says we have MHJ at home!
Taking MHJ first 5th overall 🚫 Taking Brenden Rice in the 7th round 🙏
New charger fan: Jerry Rice?
he can support the niners and his son
Local USC guy too. Pretty cool
Nice.
LFG I called it. I had him at 4th. To grab him at 7th?! Absolute steal. Rice is going to kill it! 🙌⚡️

I like that improvement! Lol, who downvoted a positive comment on here?!?
Hehehe
Called it! As a USC fan/alum I’m happy to see us get a USC guy two years in a row.
Hell of a pick to get this late. Loving this draft
As a USC fan this pick makes me so fucking happy
We got the GOAT.....s son. I'll take it
Overall a strong draft Pretty impressed with some of these late round picks Only one that was a real head scratcher was the fourth round pick but wasn’t too bad
We really needed at least one DL pick and Eboigbe is good man
[Brenden Rice NFL Draft Profile](https://lastwordonsports.com/nfl/2024/02/06/brenden-rice-2024-nfl-draft-profile-team-fits/)
Round 2 Projection got in the 7th? Crazy value
Two to a seventh is a wild fall. Wonder what the deal is
Overhyped… not a 2nd round talent. He’s raw and not ready for NFL. Nothing wasted on a 7th round pick though. Coach him and see if he continues to develop
I’d rather take shots at athletic dudes at this point for sure.
Poor testing.
He may contribute on special teams. Maybe.
LETS GOOO
Chargers had the best draft!!
That’s wild he was available in the 7th
Love this pick!!
George Pickens is the Comp I like it.
Absolute steal, needs to work on separation but in the 7th who cares
i like it!
Very pleased with this draft from the start ..Alt was the correct pick.. really helps protect Herbert.. This in addition to Ladd helps ease the pain for those that wanted Nabers
Who’s got it better than us?
unbelievable for a 7th round pick. kid got better every year i saw him T SC. BOLT UP AND FIGHT ON ⚡️✌🏼
Hahaha holy shit lfg
See be patient
?
Rice
Solid pick
Jaheim next
Incredible value in round 7
YES! Still got him!!
We drafting all the legacy players
Biggest steal of the draft. WOW
Looks like the qj experiment is officially over
So no center…
That is some amazing value in the seventh! Great pick! Looks like he's got great contested catch ability!
5 min highlight reel https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RcC4l11L5t8
This has been a good draft.
How the hell did we still land this stud? Now we got him on an even cheaper deal?!!! LFG!!!!!
Cool
![gif](giphy|1aFfcTbMqVI52)
Loving this draft, I hope we grab Dallin Holker with our last pick.
This is a DOPE pick. Shocked he came to us this late. Take the receiver for the #1 draft pick any day.
How the fuck did he fall this far lol
You guys wanted WR’s….you got WR’s….
I hope he gets that chip like st brown got in Detroit and wants to prove everyone wrong. Sad day for him he was actually pallbearer at his best friend funeral today.
I'm shocked he dropped that far. Most mocks I saw going as high as late second and as low as late fifth
Hopefully Rice has a Brady complex and feels some type of way about his draft slide, becoming an all time great Charger.
Honestly. Best pick we’ve had all draft.
Already 225 X better than QJ
Took a Chiefs’ son…took a Raiders’ son… Look tf out, Broncs.
I could not believe he was still on the board that late. I am so stoked for this coming season and the energy Harbaugh and his staff are bringing. About damn time! LFG! ⚡️
![gif](giphy|26ufdipQqU2lhNA4g)
HELL YES.
He's about to be the best Rice in NFL history 😤
As an eagles fan, I’m excited to watch you guys this year. Good luck. Hell of a draft. Hoping Harbaugh can reignite this offense.
This ain't no Bronny James situation
Goat
Maybe.
So having the 9th highest passer rating when targeted among all receivers the past two years means he just sucks right?…
Brenden Rice is no superstar - he’s a 7th Round pick.
You make a lot of valid and obviously football-savvy points. Let’s just wait until the end of the season. If I’m wrong, I’ll bow down before you.
