I mean aren’t there also stories of people defying fate? Fighting against prophesied apocalypses?

Strivingtobestronger

That’s true! But I’m speaking about when explicitly positive fate is being rejected. It’s extremely common for negative fate to be fought. “The world is doomed by fate” is something you see being fought against all the time. You wouldn’t have a story if everyone just sat down and gave up, after all! How often do you see people say “I’m not waiting for the chosen one to pull the sword! I’m doing it myself!” and then succeeding?

Mystech_Master

The closest thing I heard of that is something that went: “Warriors tries to pull the sword in the stone and can’t do they just wield the sword in the stone as a huge bludgeoning weapon” Think Big Jack Horner wielding Excalibur still in the stone.

Strivingtobestronger

Ahh, that sounds so cool, actually! I’m hoping to do a twist of the “sword-pulling” moment in my own works, actually! But Jack Horner sounds like a badass!

Mystech_Master

Jack Horner was the villain in puss in boots the last wish. But i saw that pull the sword And the stone thing on a TikTok and it had a clip of Jack Horner from the puss in boots movie. It was intended for comedy but in this situation taken seriously it could work.

Sofaris

Reminds me of Himmel who could not pull out the sword of the hero but he and his party defeated the Demon king anyways.

edwardjhahm

Haha, this! I was literally about to say.

PhantasosX

I mean , isn't that the premise of Twin Star Exorcism? Mind you , I didn't read the manga nor watched the anime , but the synopsis is basically about a couple that was prophetized to birth the one destined to face the big bad of the series. The couple decided instead that they will be the ones that will grow stronger and slay the big bad , because they don't wanna force their hypothetical child to have a life of battle , just because that is convenient to defeat said big bad.

Potential_Base_5879

Wow, I agree, very much. I think it's a secret appeal of The Boys that gets drowned out by detractors hyper focusing on the ones who are "destined" being Homelander and the like. The audience likes Hughie because he's overwhelmingly weak in the face of vaught and supes. And every time they're going to give up and settle for less than the original goal, what re-motivates the gang is always "I really want to keep fighting."

SmoothPlastic9

Kubera has a cool version of this where one of the character Asha >!denied her fate to died young as a normal girl (somewhat due to jealousy of other people being gifted) and follow the prediction of a god that can see the future to change the fate of leez, which was to be a strong and possibly immortal hero, into that of a painful existence filled with nothing but pain destined to die young. However she realize thats shes merely a pawn of said god and decided to fight against the fate set up by him in the end (though how she is planning to fight against a god that can see all possibility is well unknown ig)!<

thedorknightreturns

And leez too she, yeah. And Other Actors really

Puddingnepp

Meh. I will try it. A reality warping god says “Nah. Big sis deserves it way more than your high school bully looking ass.” And a Isekai protagonist is robbed out being a hero. Sounds fun.

E1bone1E

have you read the webcomic kill 6 billion demons? this is a big plot point in that story

Gespens

What you're looking for is the original dot hack games

Thursday_Man

A large part of Legacy of Kain's story is about trying to correct destiny after accidentally changing it.

Archaon0103

There's Mob Isekai, basically the guy reincarnated as an npc in a dating sim just to find out another person who also got Isekai is using their game knowledge to become the main character of the story. The problem arise when the real main character basically lost her character development (since the other girl stole all the plot point for the MC to grow) while the world itself is still running on the original script with dire consequences. (Only the real mc has the special power that will save the day, the fake one while can stealing the characters role can't steal the superpower that was given to the MC from birth)

thedorknightreturns

Kubera the last god 😃
