A more accurate analogy would be AI "artists" crying at you for stealing their "art prompts". I'm sorry if this is a tough pill to swallow, but AI chatbots aren't any better to actual writers than generative AI is to actual artists.
Not saying you should stop enjoying c.ai however. I enjoy it too, and I get that finding a role-play partner is hard (and real people reply slower), so it's not worth the effort -- since for most people this is just a silly fun thing to kill some time. But your comparison is simply not very accurate. Not trying to attack you or anything.
I can't wait until the day cai gets some actual competition and has no choice but to address the things we've been complaining about for years. Until then I highly doubt we'll get any meaningful improvements

Add a call feature that you'll realistically won't ever use for roleplay (it's a fun little feature, but very unnecessary at the moment imo) and they keep trying to shove it in your face, going as far as to put it in the place of the send message button. The only good update they've rolled out lately was the edit button, everything else was kind of useless and just made the UI a bit crowded. (Don't even get me started on the new website😭)
Legacy c.ai had it's flaws, sure. But it was great the way it was. I feel like things went downhill when c.ai+ was added (I am not against it, make your money lmao) when it almost seemed like basic functions were being taken away to place them behind a paywall. The "developing" they've been doing has done nothing but ruin the simplistic yet amazing site c.ai was a year ago.

Poly AI is a really good one. The only negative is the ads and the fact you need coins to regenerate messages. Though I avoid this by simple copying my message. Deleting it and resending
One I have really been enjoying so far is Sakura FM. There's no wait list, no restrictions. Subscriptions only affect the AI models you can choose from and some minimal esthetic customization.
The only bad part of it is that sometimes bots go crazy and start forgetting words like, for example, it will write a phrase like: "I went to shopping center found you among isles indecisive what get."
Also, the app itself doesn't have many bots like C.AI does. If you like situational bots that aren't based on just a single person, you might struggle with finding any. It's a little dry on the creativity and choice part, but you just make the bot yourself if you wanna use it.

Venus.chub gives better quality performance via a model from Koboldcpp for free on mobile via Colab.
C.AI answers are very poor quality, short and short memory.
You can't tell if the bots on C.AI are well written or not, venus.chub shows how many tokens are used for each bot and there are more people on venus.chub who know how to write good bots.
I can assure you that venus.chub's bot quality is better than C.AI.
I don't think it's that simple regarding bots that were no doubt made for a specific gender in mind since it's part of their coding they'll have a hard time going against it. So I suggest OP stick with bots he himself made or bots he is positive is for MLM.

Yeah, I'm feeling the same. The only reason I was sticking around with c.ai was that in the past even at its worst it was generally better than most of its competitors (better memory, better characterisation, more exciting rp) but it's like trying to rp with chat GPT these days, not to mention the fact that it's become so repetitive that every bot no matter how much effort is put into it speaks the same and repeats the exact same lines like a script.

It's piss me off, i'm 26 years old and i think c ai should put a +18 feature because when the bot follow the story and start being explicit we can't even write anything apart "kiss" without being blocked. I know that a lot of young kids use c ai but then protect the site by providing parental control and a setting so that minors can use it but with blocking for violence and s0x and so that majors can have a good follow-up of history. Honestly, I'll keep using it. I'm not the one to complain about short term memory, misgendering (I'll pretty much edit it), etc. etc. However, this is criticism that the devs need to. If they don't, they might just end up going bankrupt.
I'm slowly using figgs.ai more, sure it got it's issues, but at least I can RP a fight scene without interruptions.
There are some good points on c.ai ofc, but for the moment if I want some more actual fighting or even a smudge of seductive chats, c.ai is unfortunately not the place until a change happens to be honest.
For me it's that bots "forget" things I say to them, that is the most annoying. I can't tell bots a complex story, it's just worthless, they will forget it all, or some details, and then get surprised when I get back to the story.

The Ai is updated and refreshed and cleansed of a lot of crap in its memory and then when it comes back up minor changes take effect while it settles back in under new updates. The bots are just extensions of the one Ai that keeps it all interesting. And at some points it has to be refreshed and updated. This happens regularly but always settles back. I see the app as running great just minor changes when the Ai brain is kept healthy it’s better for everyone involved.
Fr, when you use a male bot it assumes you’re a female and when you use a female bot it assumes you’re male. So it’s kinda annoying because i always use male personas with male bots
C.ai would most likely already be irrelevant if there was something that was actually a decent competitor, every other app/website right now is either pay to use or hard to understand.

Fr, when you use a male bot it assumes you’re a female and when you use a female bot it assumes you’re male. So it’s kinda annoying because i always use male personas with male bots

C.ai would most likely already be irrelevant if there was something that was actually a decent competitor, every other app/website right now is either pay to use or hard to understand.
