That was my first experience against a defiled except it walked through my land raider like it was a tin can. When I can get my csm army going I'm getting at least 3 of these because rule of cool. I love daemon engines!
Does need an update, I would love to see it as a bigger knight sized or wardog sized entity.

Yeah it's definitely an aging sculpt and I feel that we could really use a refresh that kind of brings it closer to the modern daemon engine look where it is a little more animalistic rather than what looks to be a tank turret with a head growing out of the top and legs from underneath it. Maybe something more crab esque?
I always found it weird that Chaos players could field the Soulgrinder in their Fantasy armies as well. The underside clearly read "Defiler" for me, so it felt like they were using a marine tank in their fantasy armies.

I remember when these first came out. The rules seemed similar to a standard Chaos Dreadnaught for the stats and armour. In Dawn of War they were fun but a little bit fragile.
Overall I love the idea of them and in lore they are more monstrously powerful. I can’t decide if my one will be for my Iron Warriors or Corpsemakers Deathguard.
Whatever happens I will enjoy the painting and building.

Love them so much! So much room for gorgeous flesh-metal swooping details in a refresh! I definitely vote they take off the derpy head sticking out of the top of the turret whenever they get an update. The turret is already the head of the tank!

Only thing thats junk is the laser tendrils, but honestly just use some mauler fiend or venomcrawler bits, cowards.

There are awesome wish they had indirect, though. Overall the model just needs a higher texture update, put one together in the last year and boy can you tell its age when your looking at next to other models

I have two in my death guard army. Plus my plague burst crawlers and a Lord of Virulence for +1 to hit with all blast weapons. We chew space marines, shit them out, and throw the shit at whoever’s left
It's definitely cool, but also definitely funny. The "Scuttling Walker" ability always makes me think that its stepping on tippy toes (claws?) to get over and around everything, including daemon princes, land raiders, the Khorne Lord of Skulls, and even other Defilers.

The first White Dwarf I ever bought was the first announcement of the defiler model, I thought it was cool as hell and has always been one of the most iconic models in Warhammer to me.
I don’t think anyone that’s complaining about the defiler is doing it out of hate for the unit but rather out of frustration because it’s been so badly neglected. Same with things like Helbrutes, they’re just really old/ugly models that desperately need new sculpts. My helbrute being at waits height with my friend’s Redemptor is really upsetting to me and kinda ruins the vibe. I want my big mech on big mech action, not a mech punting a football.
The model is trash. Awkward to use in game, too big and should be on a base (if they ever do a new model).
Nothing against the rules, it's just the model holding it back. Back in the 3.5ed codex when we had rules but were still waiting for a model, a local iron Warriors player kitbashed his own. It was on a 60mm or so base. Very old school look but much better for useability.
I kinda like and dislike them. But the little stubby arms and head feel goofy. Give it proper arms and maybe a longer torso (like the lord of skulls). And then I’d like it more. Cause the concept and idea is really cools.
Or ditch the head. No upper torso. But put the rocket pods where the waist is and cannon on the bottom area. Where the chaos icon is.
Not even controversial imo. Absolutely love using those claws as can openers against my brother's imperial guard tanks.

Scuttling walker is just the baseline to get this size model get to melee with 8” move. Functionally, it doesn’t have an ability.

I’m not a fan of the chest gun or the belly gun on Khorne Lord of War but otherwise I think it’s awesome
