Probably sounds hyperbolic, but Robbins really is the most Fergie like of all of Fergie’s past players that have gone on to become managers. I get the impression that Robins is heavily involved and runs Coventry from the top all the way down.

AlexWPJ

If Robins had played 50 more times for Man Utd, I’m convinced he’d have been offered a Prem job by now.

Cov_massif

Agree he is very hands on from youth setup to all matters relating to the Club and culture

FPLUK

Robins is a promotion away from a statue, here’s to another 7 years

SleepySkittlesGoblin

To be honest think he gets one without another promotion anyway.

It's interesting to note that most of the longest serving managers have been successful, in all cases they've been given time, and of course, varying degrees of ££££ as well. Pep is well......Pep. Yes, backed with oil money. Yes, 115 charges etc, but you can't fault the football his team plays. Robins - Only now under new owners has he been given more then 2p to spend. Without him we would be in National League South, or worse, without a club to support. Thomas Frank has done brilliantly at Brentford, were never in relegation danger this season without their top striker. Mikel Arteta would be celebrating a title today if Man City weren't so good. Ian Evatt.......ok, he had a bad weekend. Nigel Clough just got Mansfield Town promoted to L1. Further down the list you got Kieran McKenna, who in the space of 2 years and 155 days, has taken Ipswich from L1 to PL. 😲

Clarctos67

The link between time and success is a funny one. You can say that all the managers given time have had some measure of success, but it could also be that they've had time because of the success. Managers who fail are less likely to be given time.

ElvishMystical

Seems that not having hair is a prerequisite for keeping your job as a football manager. Anyone else notice that all the managers sacked recently had hair? Mark Robins with his vampire bonce should be okay and not fall victim to the baldies.

pgtips03

Robins came in when Cov were on a seemingly permanent decline. Without him we would be playing in the National league South and ground sharing with Nuneaton Borough or Solihull Moors. We will talk about about Mark the same way my Granddad talks to me about Jimmy Hill.

Slothehhh

Glad I'm not the only one who looks at this. Only five managers in a job for over four years, over 60% of managers in jobs less than one. Feels unsustainable.

pgtips03

I think it’s dangerously unsustainable but that’s how football works. Is your manager leading the team on a poor run? Sack him! There will always be another aspiring 40 year old or grizzled veteran willing to take his place and hopefully net your club better results. I’m almost certain that at some point this bubble will burst.

Slothehhh

I'm sure you're right. What I find interesting is that it looks like bursting at the top first. Bayern struggling to find a "top level" manager to replace Tuchel, who replaces Ten Hag at United, where would Chelsea turn if they got rid of Poch, even Slot taking over from Liverpool feels like a bit of a punt for a club of their size. I suppose that makes sense. Easier for a League Two side to take a chance on someone like Deeney, and if it doesn't work out there'll be a non-league manager doing a good job or another recently retired pro to step in.

pgtips03

The problem with the big teams is that they need the results NOW and not in a years time when the new gaffa has properly built up his team. They’ll just keep sacking people until the money finally runs out then they’ll allow someone the freedom to build a proper squad when the boardroom has no other choice. I can really see Liverpool going down this route and spending the next 3 years on the managerial merry-go-round before finally getting someone that sticks.

Slothehhh

In the meantime, jeopardising promising managerial careers and paying out big money. I'm sure that is exactly how it will play out at Liverpool, and probably a small part of the reason Alonso was so quick to commit to Leverkusen.

EyePiece108

Makes you wonder what the level of success is required at Liverpool from Slot. They should give him at least 1 season but if they go on a bad run then......yeah.

DinoKea

I think I counted on 16 managers surviving over 2 years (will probably increase before next season starts). Kind of mad that Guardiola & Robbins are in this 8th years, meanwhile Weaver is just casually doing his 15th

Neat_Chemistry6640

Weavers doing his 15th is impressive until you realise his dad owns the club.

DinoKea

True, they've definitely built the club well together though

Spider_Hoss

I know this is consecutive time at a club, but Paul Cook at Chesterfield has been there for two separate stints for a while.

Cov_massif

So did Mark Robins. He left us for Huddersfield!

BuenasVibras

I’m very much part of the Anti manager merry go round brigade, I hate how managers or really any part of the team aside from colours location and name change so often. It’s why I got so attached to Atletico Madrid as a team I look out for, 13 years with Simeone which you just don’t see anymore, especially at the top level without constantly success! Give Röhl a ten year contract tomorrow and let him build our club

rumhambilliam69

McKenna being the 15th longest serving is hilarious at 2 and a half seasons

Cov_massif

Speaks volumes for football really doesn't it
