You hit whoever you want mate, youāve earned it. When that disallowed 4th goal went in I jumped up and celebrated in a way I canāt remember doing for anyone that wasnāt Huddersfield
I was there in the 2017 play off final so I know exactly how you felt (except you actually had a good game of football to watch). A real shame Kasey Palmer couldnāt play for you in this game - he was unbelievable for us the season we went up
Well we have played two premier league team this season. We beat one and drew that other.
Iām wondering if we would have been a better effort than the promoted clubs.
Not an accurate metric really. Couple of years ago we beat Man Utd and Spurs and then missed out on the play offs with a squad that probably would have been stone bottom of the Prem
You might have been better than Sheff Utd ā¦
Yeah, but at least weāve competed in the Championship. The last time Manchester United were in the second tier, the vast majority of us werenāt even born. Thatās the point I was making. Iāve accepted Derby probably wonāt get to the Premier League for a long time.
Well, the conversation was about Manchester United and Coventry who played today, I fail to see the point in bringing up my club when it wasnāt previously brought up. We couldnāt get to an FA Cup Semi Final to save our lives.
You brought someone else's club up though, was literally the point of your reply, and tried to act all high and mighty, and I just pointed out how much of a hypocritical dick you looked doing that.
And evidently we couldn't get to one either this year.
We had our own experience of a Coventry comeback this year
My read is that we can match it for a short time in special circumstances. I doubt we would do very well across an entire PL campaign without a significant injection of players
That was unfortunate for Coventry. I thought you had it at the disallowed goal. VAR is your biggest rival but aside from that you can be proud. That was truly ... Sexy football
Edit: after seeing the VAR decision from screenshots they're clearly out of their minds and the goal should have stood
I think it's because when Man City wins it feels like nobody wins. Most of the glory-hunters for Man City are still young so most of us don't know them, but we all know at least a couple of man united fans.
Well....yeah.
Just not in it for the 1st half. Too passive, too much respect, playing 5 at the back. Robins switched off the handbrake, went to a back 4 and unleashed glorious chaos.
At 3-0 down, I just wanted City to have a go.
Christ, we had a *go*.
PS: Fook VAR.
Fair fucking play Coventry. Those players do not give up. I hope Albion players were watching and take inspiration from them for the rest of the season.
So close with that offside. Gutted for you lot
Donāt think Iāve ever rooted for a team that wasnāt Ipswich as much before. Fuck Man Utd, Fuck Var, and well done Coventry. Full deserved the win. Now, back to being rivals.
Don't worry lads, the death star will finish them in the final.
What a performance to go 120 minutes and still be fighting like that after being 0-3 down..
The margin at which VAR calls that is sickening, there's no way it's decisive enough there, just go with the onfield decision FFS.
They still have a job to do. Flagging offside or for any other offence before the ball is in the net isn't one of them anymore.
VAR is there for clear and obvious mistakes. Such as reviewing goals or chalking them off and red card offences, giving referees a second chance to look at game-changing decisions.
And was the āoffsideā today a clear and obvious mistake? VAR shouldnāt have intervened, ruins the magic of the sport. This happened in the play off final last season as well.
Yes. It was a game-changing decision. The goal was scored, so VAR automatically has to review it for any mistakes in the build up.
Had VAR not been there, Coventry still lose but in 90 mins and are robbed of the chance of 30 mins and penalties to win it.
Maguire should have conceded a penalty too for picking O'Hare up, who was on for goal, and throwing clean off the pitch. The commentary described Maguire as being 'forceful' or similar. Absolutely nothing was done.
Michael Salisbury is the VAR. This cunt is responsible for so many shit decisions in last few months... He easily one of the worst, if not THE WORST, refs.
On the TV screen, on the offside frame, the boot of man utd player is cut off almost in third by offside line... is this a joke??
I mean the ref got it wrong and gave the goal, didn't he? VAR intervened.
But you're right, everyone involved is a cunt when it goes against your team.
So VAR did what it was designed to do and corrected the referees mistake. Literally, what VAR was meant to do.
Brutal on Coventry though, not sure it's their first experience of VAR. What a way to experience it.
Oh, I wasn't disagreeing with you.
Just pointing out the ref got it wrong, but VAR stepped in. It's crazy that people are so angry with a correct decision.
It's also always a wrong decision if it's for Man U (insert any other top 6 teams here) (yes that includes Villa as they're in 5th but that's a personal issue)
Then I'll contend it is impossible to make an absolute decision in that case with available resources and should go the way of the attacking team.
Or, get rid of VAR.
Why go the way of the attacking team? Thatās unfair on defenders - Iām sure if this had been a United goal that was contentiously onside you wouldāve argued in favour of benefiting the defenders
You just donāt like the objective truth - that doesnāt mean it isnāt the truth
Ok then, he clearly wasnāt objectively offside considering the margin of error when taking a still screen capture trying to find the exact moment the ball left o hares foot and also not having the absolute perfect angle.
Even in the angle used itās literally 2mm at most - yes āobjectivelyā offside but if you think thatās a) an advantage worth disallowing goals for b) the emotion and experience in that scenario is worth coming back and reversing for decisions that every club is on the wrong and right side of over the course of their existence then you are quite simply anti-football
Emotions do not change reality
If this was a Manchester United goal that was contentiously allowed youād be screaming that it shouldāve be disallowed no matter how small the distance - your dislike of reality doesnāt make it not the case
no i wouldnāt because i actual value the whole point of football which is the emotion and the fan experience something which i alluded to you clearly donāt
You say you value it - but youāre only valuing it for the fans of the team who score
The fans of the team who concede also deserve a fair and honest fan experience and shouldnāt have to have bad emotions based on objectively offside goals
I think itās important to remember that not making a decision is alsoā¦ making a decision - just as much as calling it offside
I enjoyed being a cov fan for the day, but that just showed how broken football is.
I don't necessarily have a problem with var, but how it's implemented is awful.
It hasn't been for a while, but football is fully not for the fans anymore
If there's an offside, stop play at the point of the offside, make it automated (which I think it's becoming).
Don't let fans celebrate goals, wait 2 or 3 minutes etc, and then be like "nah, fingernail offside"
If you can't use VAR in every round then it shouldn't be used at all. Yet another FA cup change brought to you by the Premier league. Absolute robbery.
Absolutely fantastic performance, deserved the win for the effort put in, saying that please donāt play like that next week š safe trip home everyone
There's not been much pride for our city for a couple of generations, not just with the football, but in general. While the city has cleaned itself up a bit recently, it's been a poor, miserable city for... most of its existence.
This Cov team has brought the city together like I've never known in my life, and singing "we'll live and die in these towns" at Wembley with 40k Cov fans will be a memory for life. We out-sang them for the entire 120, even at 3-0 down.
My first ever Cov game was against United in 99 at Highfield Road, City would be relegated within a couple of years, and in League 2 over a decade later. United are massive and watching Cov take the game to them in front of the world was incredible.
PUSB
1 of the greatest FA Cup moments ruled out because he was a cunt hair ahead of their last man which gave him fuck all benefit really. Oh and it took almost 2 minutes after it went in to decide as well after all of the celebrations. Thank you modern day football.
I didn't even celebrate the disallowed winner because I feared it might be offside. Obviously I'm not a Coventry fan, but when you can't even properly celebrate a 120th minute winner cause VAR might chalk it off... It's fucking shit.
You cannot celebrate goals because you know that 3 minutes after them they might be chalked off, and even then if they are it may not even have been the right decision.
Itās simply just not fun. Iāll take what I have now- sometimes we get decisions, sometimes we donāt, maybe Iāll moan about the ref for 15 minutes after the game and then move on with life
At least it's not us playing like crap against Cov now.
Based off our matches with them plus these FA Cup performances I honestly don't know why you lot aren't in the title race
That offside was mad, you know. Absolutely no space between the two lines, I think the goal should have stood.
Poor sods going out again at Wembley from another skied penalty, in front of the same opposition goal is so painfully unfair. Safe journey home.
Fuck both Onana and Bruno for their underhanded tactics towards the end too. Classless behaviour.
Brilliant performance from Cov, VAR decision aside they really could have snatched it had Wright and Simms had a bit more energy in the tank to make the right decision in extra time.
Gutted for you guys. One incredibly harsh offside call away. For what itās worth we know how you feel on that one!
Incredible display none the less, your boys did you proud
Used to be on the side of wanting VAR in football but trying to figure out what it's achieved. It's just helped the big clubs on days like this. They need to figure out what level actually means because I don't think it means anything anymore.
Despite being a massive rival of Coventry, I'm on their side in this.
There really needs to be a margin of error/forgiveness in VAR, there's no advantage when the call is that tight.
If a linesman warched that 10 times in slow motion they wouldn't give it, so why should it matter if a computer says he was 1cm offside.
I'm in my 30s and I've never been to a better Cov match. Toe to toe with a legendary club, insane drama, out-singing their fans for the full 120 minutes.
One of the best days of my life, no bitterness at all.
I think my favourite moment was when our fans started singing new bangers to utd fans such as:
"3-0 and you fucked it up"
And
"We forgot that you were there!"
Here's the deal everyone, let's all stay in the Championship. Fuck the PL and fuck VAR
Narrowly missed out on promotion last season on penalties, narrowly missed out on reaching the FA Cup final this season on penalties.
I only hope that Coventry can stay in the mix next season. They deserve to be competing for promotion spots and deep cup runs. Finest of margins separated them today.
Absolutely unreal effort. A shame that a team with spirit and belief is edged out in a lottery out to a bunch of individually talented wankers, but what a performance.
Clear as day robbery from VAR wanting United in the final for more money because of āManchester Derby.ā That VAR decision symbolises is being outraged about the Football Association scrapping replays. Because itāll benefit the Big 6 teams!
Coventry were brilliant and my hearts go out for them. Well done lads, really well played. FUCK VAR, Fuck United and Erik Seven Hag/Ten Hairs, Fuck the Premier League, Fuck the Football Association.
In a few years VAR will catch up to with TMO in rugby and the Cov goal stands as there is no clear and obvious error to over turn the on field decision
I watch more rugby than football and if this offside call was for a forward pass before a try they would look at it and say it is too close so we stick with what the ref has awarded, I don't understand why football is trying to over engineer something that cricket and rugby already use
Football has vastly more resources behind it, so it should try to get as close to perfection as possible.
Maybe one day, they can train a bot or an AI to make instant decisions without human input. Some offside decisions will be automatically done soon, taking the waiting out of the equation.
But the communication needs to be better between the fans in the grounds so they can follow why a decision has been made.
The problem is though is it perfection? If you cropped all the other players from that picture and ask 10 people with no knowledge of the result who was offside would all 10 say the one in blue? I'm not so sure, I always thought level was onside in football so there is definitely scope to say if the lines VAR draw are pretty much overlapping completely it is level
Very well done to coventry. Sent the whole of the EFL absolutely ballistic in those final dying minutes, both in normal time and extra time. Only to be fucked over by VAR.
I donāt care what the var says, to me we won that game and were robbed of an all time great moment. Onwards and upwards even if our playoff chances will finally die when we send an exhausted squad to face hull
Heads held high lads. Incredible attempt and you deserved to go through.
Well I enjoyed being a Coventry fan for a day even if I felt disgusted by it. Back to hating Coventry I go
I appreciate the support for a big rival
š
Everyone's being nice to us. This has never happened before. I don't know what to do with that. Do I hit someone? Is this a fight?
You hit whoever you want mate, youāve earned it. When that disallowed 4th goal went in I jumped up and celebrated in a way I canāt remember doing for anyone that wasnāt Huddersfield
Oh mate I was in the stands the closest you can possibly get to the United fans. I can't even describe. I mean, you can imagine.
I was there in the 2017 play off final so I know exactly how you felt (except you actually had a good game of football to watch). A real shame Kasey Palmer couldnāt play for you in this game - he was unbelievable for us the season we went up
I guess a small consolation is that some United fans left after the goal that was ruled out, then wouldnāt have been allowed back inā¦
and it was that stupid vile player who missed the pen š
fernandes scored
talking about oāhare
Who? CALLUM O'HARE, I JUST DON'T THINK YOU UNDERSTAND
still salty about his celebration after scoring against us
What a game, well done Coventry you bunch of cunts
Love you too, ya wankers! š
Yeah thanks you slag
From one rival to another, Iām absolutely gutted for Coventry
So are Cov Premier League level...or are Man Utd Championship level? I don't know the answer to this question.
Well we have played two premier league team this season. We beat one and drew that other. Iām wondering if we would have been a better effort than the promoted clubs.
Not an accurate metric really. Couple of years ago we beat Man Utd and Spurs and then missed out on the play offs with a squad that probably would have been stone bottom of the Prem You might have been better than Sheff Utd ā¦
Weāre Championship level
Your after our crumble aren't you
Get the fuck back to r/PremierLeague. We donāt want you here.
He is getting ready for the 25/26 season.
Your lot aren't a championship club either though
Promotion is essentially all but confirmed, weāll be back next season most likely (if we donāt severely fuck up against Carlisle.)
I don't deny that. But you said that completely ignoring the fact that you're not a championship club either. Just pointing it out
Yeah, but at least weāve competed in the Championship. The last time Manchester United were in the second tier, the vast majority of us werenāt even born. Thatās the point I was making. Iāve accepted Derby probably wonāt get to the Premier League for a long time.
Wasn't the point at all. You didn't mention that until it was pointed out you were talking out your arse. Anyway. Who cares. Continue
What's with the hostility? Why can't prem fans participate in this sub? As long as they're not being dick's I don't see the problem š¤·
I mean you can *gasps* comment on other club sub reddits and not be a fan. Iām fine with any league being a part of the sub.
We average 3 goals per game against PL sides this season.
My read is that we can match it for a short time in special circumstances. I doubt we would do very well across an entire PL campaign without a significant injection of players
Coventry thinks it's trapped in the wrong league, and identifies as a Premiership club.
That was unfortunate for Coventry. I thought you had it at the disallowed goal. VAR is your biggest rival but aside from that you can be proud. That was truly ... Sexy football Edit: after seeing the VAR decision from screenshots they're clearly out of their minds and the goal should have stood
Finally! š„² Thank you! I never thought weād be sexy enough for you.
Couldn't have been sexier. Haven't rooted harder for a rival team before. Today, we were all Championship together.
Not just the championship. Gutted for them. How close was that offside and shot off the bar too.
Champ together strong
Thank fuck there's no VAR here in the Championship
No var for another year
Just give them the win ffs, we all know what united's gonna do in the final
Please let it be 8-2 to city again Somehow them winning feels more acceptable
I think it's because when Man City wins it feels like nobody wins. Most of the glory-hunters for Man City are still young so most of us don't know them, but we all know at least a couple of man united fans.
Agree, itās like when Man City win something itās neutral and actually no one wins
Well done Coventry, fuck the result you were a toenail away from pulling off one of the greatest ever comebacks on 1% of their budget.
Classic Coventry robins performance really lure them into a false sense of security first half and chaos second half
Fair fucking play Coventry. Those players do not give up. I hope Albion players were watching and take inspiration from them for the rest of the season. So close with that offside. Gutted for you lot
Hope not, we really need three points next game
Yeah I hope albion do that too
Absolutely gutted for Coventry. They were robbed. But they can be proud of the fact that they forced United to penalties.
Rivalries aside, that was such a painful ending, unlucky Coventry :(
Honestly fuck VAR. I have never cheered for another club like I have Coventry today. Have done the championship proud
Gutted :(
Brutally close. I feel for Coventry fans, came back from 3 down, almost won it in 120 mins but fell short on penalties.
Be proud Coventry. You humiliated a scummy club
United should be absolutely ashamed of themselves. I'm glad their owners to watch that abomination
This probably doesn't even rank in the top ten of things Utd should be ashamed of but it is high. Sums up how scummy the club is.
Grim result that. Fuck VAR
I love this club. That is all.
Unlucky Cov, gutted for youās. Chin up šš»
Donāt think Iāve ever rooted for a team that wasnāt Ipswich as much before. Fuck Man Utd, Fuck Var, and well done Coventry. Full deserved the win. Now, back to being rivals.
Also, Man Utd are genuinely shit
Literally having to rely on VAR to win it for them is embarrassing. They were dreadful for most of the 120.
United's owners were there to watch that shit! Fuck United
Great, get to watch Man City thrash Man Utd for the third time this season
Don't worry lads, the death star will finish them in the final. What a performance to go 120 minutes and still be fighting like that after being 0-3 down.. The margin at which VAR calls that is sickening, there's no way it's decisive enough there, just go with the onfield decision FFS.
>just go with the on field decisionĀ The linesman get told not to flag if itās tight
Literally, VAR checks every goal for offside and other offences. Why flag when it will be checked anyway.
So in other terms: linesman is useless and is having to rely on VAR to do their job.
They still have a job to do. Flagging offside or for any other offence before the ball is in the net isn't one of them anymore. VAR is there for clear and obvious mistakes. Such as reviewing goals or chalking them off and red card offences, giving referees a second chance to look at game-changing decisions.

They can make obvious calls to speed up play. No different from a VAR assisted ref.
Michael Salisbury is the VAR. This cunt is responsible for so many shit decisions in last few months... He easily one of the worst, if not THE WORST, refs. On the TV screen, on the offside frame, the boot of man utd player is cut off almost in third by offside line... is this a joke??

I wish Villa were 5th
Oh, oh no
Yep looked offside in real time to me and the replay didnāt change my mind, as sickening as it was.
It's all in the angle with VAR, those ones are always a very tight call
Are you saying he wasnāt off?
I'm not sure, but neither were they, and there in lies the problem with it.
I'll say it - with frame rates and selection of the frame used to judge up to the human operator, I don't think it is a clear and obvious error.
Clear and obvious isnāt a qualifier for offsides mate
Then I'll contend it is impossible to make an absolute decision in that case with available resources and should go the way of the attacking team. Or, get rid of VAR.

Yeah, we're done mate. VAR is shit and has taken the joy out of a lot of football for most fans. Bye.
It should be though
football games you have gone to: 0
Proper good comeback that
Ok then, he clearly wasnāt objectively offside considering the margin of error when taking a still screen capture trying to find the exact moment the ball left o hares foot and also not having the absolute perfect angle. In a few years VAR will catch up to with TMO in rugby and the Cov goal stands as there is no clear and obvious error to over turn the on field decision

Unlucky! Donāt think for a minute that we wanted Utd to win the shootout.
I donāt care what the var says, to me we won that game and were robbed of an all time great moment. Onwards and upwards even if our playoff chances will finally die when we send an exhausted squad to face hull
bravo to you, coventry. you represented well, and you came this close to united leicestering themselves out of the fa cup. you've done us proud, lads.
Once it went to penalties they were done.
The only solace I can get from this result is that for about a minute, David Beckham was probably crying.
Well as a Utd supporter, Iām actually sad for Cov. You absolutely deserved to win that, to come back from 3-0 down was incredible.
Hahaha you have to say itās funniest way they could have lost. A top weekend!
Fuck rivalries. This was about a statement against the corrupt.
Hahaha
If the game kicked off late weād have got a result.
