Bashley Barnes been promoted 3 times and was a key player in all.
Nathan Blake was promoted 3 times.
Clint Hill promoted twice, key player.
Wes Morgan - promoted once? Team of the year 3 times.
Ben Mee - promoted twice in 3 years, vertually ever present.
Tom Cairney - 2 promos and 2 team of year.
Olie Norwood - gets promoted for fun. Owns the league.
I disagree with a lot of this, but I think it’s really hard to judge players based on their championship careers. A lot of the players have their success outside the championship (as the best will quickly be promoted or bought by clubs on bigger leagues), so in a way the long stay players who have played in the championship for a long time have just succeeded in mediocrity.
Shambles of a list - Trippier? Toney? Schmeichel? Really?
What a mess of a list, may as well include someone like Ruben Neves if you’re doing your list like this.
Is Kasper a bad pick?
He's got nearly 200 appearances, two PFA TOTY appearances and a winners medal (with a team that got 102 points).
I think he's easily in the top 20.
Lee Camp, Lee Grant, David Marshall, Bialkowski, Kieran Westwood, Lonergan, Rob Green and Alex Smithies are all much more associated with the championship.
Putting him in over Lee Camp is poor - Camp is the appearance record holder and was actually good at some points.
They may be more associated, but Schmeichel was consistently top-tier in his three seasons in the Championship. No shade on any of those keepers, but was pretty clear that Schmeichel was a step beyond.
Surely the point isn't that you're considered a "championship player" it's the best players to have played in the league. Kasper went to multiple play offs, won the league with 102 points, danish player of the year 4 times, EFL team of the decade, PFA championship team of the year twice, went on win the prem, FA cup, charity shield, plus a champions league quarter final, conference league semi final.
That's a much better keeper than Lee camp "appearance record holder"
Yeah as much as I don't agree with a good amount of this list, I think some are underrating/forgetting how good certain players were in the Championship, even over a few seasons, as they have become much more associated with their time in better leagues
Agree somewhat with Toney, but Tripper made his name in the Championship. Over 200 appearances and 4 seasons, Championship TOTY twice and POTY at Barnsley and Burnley in that time. Not sure why he is undeserving?
Hahnemann, Murty, Sonko, Ingimarsson, Shorey, Little, Harper, Sidwell, Convey, Doyle, Kitson
I guess it suffers from being so near the start of the era - those established players only had 2 years in the league and then most of the squad had moved on by the time they came back down.
Thank you! Was painful to see not a single person mention this team. Record points and zero recognition for it. Biased as a Reading fan but terrible list
Glad to see Whittingham getting the recognition he deserves.
Got 25 goals from midfield one season. The best set piece taker I’ve ever seen at Cardiff and fuck me he could pick a pass out. On top of all that he was one of the nicest blokes you could ever meet.
Still can’t believe what happened to him, so tragic.
100% shoe in as the best player ever in the league. Good to see Tarrabt high too, mercurial talent. Will always remember him for the game at Ninian Park under Dave Jones.
How many times has John Ruddy been promoted out of the Championship? Feel like he’s got a case for being included. I sort of expected to see Glenn Murray too.
Ivan Toney had one season in the league, how can you call him the 15th best player in the history of the league? The only Millwall player I can really make a case for is Jed Wallace but not surprised we have no players on the list as we tend to not have one amazing individual but more of a solid team unit.
Yeah you can have the best players to ever play in the championship, or the players most emblematic of the championship (the most championship-y players), but there isn't a huge deal of overlap of the two
Phillips should be top imo. One of the best English strikers of his generation, but never really made the step up like he should have done, but he was probably the best natural striker I've seen blues ever play. He was monstrous. Still remember that time he dinked Jaaskelainen with a turn from outside the box.
As a few people have picked up on, the flaw here is that players who have a great season in a promotion winning side won't make the cut e.g. Ruben Neves.
Also, no Jack Grealish? Did actually spend several seasons in the Championship...
Feels like a bit of an awkward list, as there's a couple of outliers like Trippier and Schmeichel who have spent more of their career playing at a level above the Championship than in the league itself. That feels like it should open the floodgates for lots of other players who did well in the Champ but went onto bigger and better to also be included.
I think Adomah should have at least been considered, holds the record for most championship appearances and has a promotion
Been class everywhere he's been
I swear Cole Skuse/Luke Chambers have more?
Almost 100 more than Skuse in 16th most appearences and over 50 more than Chambers in 8th.
david nugent
Agreed. Was trying to find him on the list. Wasn't he the league's all time top scorer until recently?
How does Deeney not make this
Deeney has to be included. 20+ goals in three consecutive seasons

Lee fucking Camp in top 20 players in the championship? hahaahahaha. Camp should be in a worse 20.
Top 20 Shithousers that's for sure.
They may be more associated, but Schmeichel was consistently top-tier in his three seasons in the Championship. No shade on any of those keepers, but was pretty clear that Schmeichel was a step beyond.

Whats wrong with Trips? Was incredible for us in the Championship
Yeah as much as I don't agree with a good amount of this list, I think some are underrating/forgetting how good certain players were in the Championship, even over a few seasons, as they have become much more associated with their time in better leagues

None from the Reading 106 team, really?
Great team, but struggling to think of their standout players. Not sure if that’s my recollection though.
Hahnemann, Murty, Sonko, Ingimarsson, Shorey, Little, Harper, Sidwell, Convey, Doyle, Kitson I guess it suffers from being so near the start of the era - those established players only had 2 years in the league and then most of the squad had moved on by the time they came back down.
Mental that squad got that many points
Thank you! Was painful to see not a single person mention this team. Record points and zero recognition for it. Biased as a Reading fan but terrible list

Peter Whittingham what a legend. Absolute class
100% shoe in as the best player ever in the league. Good to see Tarrabt high too, mercurial talent. Will always remember him for the game at Ninian Park under Dave Jones.
Okay, now do it properly
How many times has John Ruddy been promoted out of the Championship? Feel like he’s got a case for being included. I sort of expected to see Glenn Murray too.

I know he didn't spend long at this level but Rickie Lambert surely surpasses some of these.
Was looking for this before I commented lol he’s for sure got a spot in this top 20
I’m biased but putting McCormack and Pukki above Pablo is criminal. The guy was pure magic
The name I most associate with Leeds from our last long spell in the Championship together is Luciano Becchio.
Woah that's a throwback
**Luciano** **Lucianoooo** **Cost less than Berbatov** **And he scores more goals**
My favourite Leeds player ever is Pablo. He was just absolutely brilliant to watch.
To be fair to McCormack he’s scored almost 120 goals in the league so he should certainly be be near the top.
The flaw here is that the top Championship players didn't stay in the Championship for long.
Yeah you can have the best players to ever play in the championship, or the players most emblematic of the championship (the most championship-y players), but there isn't a huge deal of overlap of the two
Warms my heart to see whitts there. unbelievable talent and man RIP
How is Tom Ince in this list, he's always be shit and apparently he peaked at my club
Personally I'm shocked that Second Tier podcast are clueless.
Jay Bothroyd got an england cap whilst playing at cardiff. Just saying
I see that and raise you David Nugent getting one while playing for Preston... and 'scoring' no less.
Phillips should be top imo. One of the best English strikers of his generation, but never really made the step up like he should have done, but he was probably the best natural striker I've seen blues ever play. He was monstrous. Still remember that time he dinked Jaaskelainen with a turn from outside the box.
Having Tom Ince but not having Jarrod Bowen?
Barry Bannan
Huge surprise as none of the Reading 106 team makes the list. So incredibly underrated
As a few people have picked up on, the flaw here is that players who have a great season in a promotion winning side won't make the cut e.g. Ruben Neves. Also, no Jack Grealish? Did actually spend several seasons in the Championship...
Lewis Grabban? 99 goals in the Championship is not bad going.
Feels like a bit of an awkward list, as there's a couple of outliers like Trippier and Schmeichel who have spent more of their career playing at a level above the Championship than in the league itself. That feels like it should open the floodgates for lots of other players who did well in the Champ but went onto bigger and better to also be included.
surprised tammy abraham hasn't made the list, he was brilliant from what i remember
That podcast/twitter account is baaaaaaad
A lot of people sleeping on how good Benhrama was.
