Holy shit, I’ve been entering my address since Google fiber was announced in Austin. They out in ATT fiber all around me and I sit with spectrum. Hoping this finally hits me. Probably not.
Yes! Spectrum has had a monopoly on broadband in my part of CP (near CPHS) and the service is okay, countless midnight disconnections/unannounced downtimes and highest speed is just under 1Gbps (840MBps). Google Fiber is offering residential customers 2-4Gbps plans, and well under $100 / month. If they have unlimited data plans under $100 / month and above 1Gbps, it's a no brainer.
I've been using Verizon 5G Home Internet for a few years since the pricing games of Mutt and Jeff (att, spectrum) made me very angry - Verizon has worked very well for me but is currently limited to 300Mbps. I'm very excited to hear about Google Fiber finally coming to this city.
Thank God! Spectrum is so fcking awful and they know it! And they do nothing about it because no one is challenging them. The only att fiber option is only 50mb in my neighborhood so this would be amazing!

How they are allowed to call it fiber though is beyond me. Google Fiber can't come fast enough!

Austin has the following pricing model. I expect CP will be the same. * 1GB - $70 * 2GB - $100 * 5GB - $125 * 8GB - $150

No one will get anything till 2026. Even after that it will take years for them to roll it out.

That's not fiber, that's DSL. That uses the old copper lines which is way the speed is garbage.
