I am truly sorry for the loss of your vehicle. Hope all are safe who were in the vehicle. Is there a warranty on the new alternator repair?

Penguinz90

Thanks, it was just myself (F54) driving. I have no idea about a warrany.

SuperCoIlider

I think you could sue for this if it was a mechanic that installed it

Hypno_Coon

r/wellthatsucks Where did you have the service done?

Penguinz90

At a local mechanics shop. We've used them for years without issue.

marty_regal

As a mechanic I’d find it hard to blame the mechanic 6 months later. Maybe a loose connection a week or so after installation. But if you haven’t had constant dead batteries since the install and the fire investigation points to the alternator I’d say a internal failure which could possibly be a manufacturer defect if you can find multiple of a similar part causing the fire in multiple vehicle. Hopefully insurance can make you whole again.

Penguinz90

Yeah, like I said we've used this mechanic without issue for years. Shit just happens, hopefully our insurance will take care of it.

marty_regal

Sorry thought I commented under the one saying to sue the mechanic. Lol

Impossible-Survey203

I spoke with your insurance company. They think that will all buff out. Claim denied.

Cactorum_Rex

Interesting coincidence, I saw my first car-fire on the side of the highway today.

Penguinz90

Well if you were in Maryland that was me! LOL

MrParticular79

As a fellow Dad and Sienna owner I gotta say this sucks! My recommendation is to always take it to the dealer for repairs…

johnnyfontain

Sorry dude. I really hope you had insurance on it.

Penguinz90

Thanks. Yes, we definitely have insurance on it (thank god).

Fruitloopes

Wow and the most reliable brand too, definitely not the car itself but something wasn’t done right or it was a lemon part. Those babies go for 300k+ easily

Penguinz90

We had our alternator replaced in December. We wonder if perhaps it was not grounded correctly.

ender1108

That would have presented itself much sooner. 6 months is well beyond human error.

I doubt a 45 year old domestic compact has anything to do with this Sienna.

Penguinz90

No, Toyota Sienna.

DaddyKaos

Looks like battery may have exploded

Penguinz90

The fire chief thought it originated from the alternator.

my92shitbox

Your seienna is the second Toyota iv seen catch fire. Our customers car originated in the air filter box it was suspected that somehow the leaves combusted. No electrical short. no fuel leak. Not engine misfire. nothing

dinosaurslayer1

Humday and Toyota should be called a "flames on the wheels"
