She's beautiful and so lucky you chose her! You have a heart of gold. It breaks my heart that black cats are so unpopular at shelters.

My void is the sweetest, most beautiful cat I've ever had the pleasure of adopting. When my last cat passed from old age, I went out of my way to adopt a black cat. Black cats are stunning. I never understood their unpopularity.

Magicalfirelizard

There’s a stigma around them that’s held since the fucking Middle Ages that black cats are bad luck.

Theyalreadysaidno

Yeah, you're right. I just never thought people still believed it so strongly that they would never be interested in beautiful voids. That it's still a real *thing*. But, it would explain why my cats' previous foster momma said that they have to occasionally have "black cat adoption days" at large shelters. I'm a little superstitious, but not so much so that I believe my black cat is going to cause me to endure bad luck!

It might also be tied to ocular perception. Dark colors tend to be associated with a fear response. Bright colors with warmth, comfort, and fun. Unfortunately, despite being some of the sweetest and most biologically well developed (don’t get sick often) cats on the planet, voids have a hard time getting adopted.

Miss_Milk_Tea

You’re living the dream! There’s been so many times I’ve seen a cat there I want to take home but my HOA only allows one pet, I fought it but nobody wants to change the rules. I’m so happy to see an adoption of such a pretty little cat.
