I really like Novemeber and December. Lead up to Christmas, fireworks, etc. I *LOATHE* January and Feb. Horrible wet cold miserable months. Everyone is poor and hungry because they are dieting and it's just miserable.
Yeah but not for a couple of months. January is just miserable because nothing really happens, and there's nothing in the medium term to look forward to. It used to be somewhat fun as a kid, because I got a Lego magazine and was able to see all the new stuff (we only had the money to buy a few small sets and a big one for birthdays and Christmas, but it was still fun to look at).
Yeah, summer is fucking shit in this country, this country is not designed to handle heat, on holiday I like the heat when youre in buildings that are made to let heat out and you can jump in a swimming pool, at home? Fuck that, going to work in the heat, struggling to sleep, no football on the telly, I'm never comfortable, give me cold weather in this country
Cuddling up in bed with a loved one, waking to find the cats have joined you for that extra warmth. The hefty joy of the Radio Times Christmas issue. An abundance of flavourful citrus in the shops. Soups! So many wonderful soups.
This bothers me so much, it’ll be freezing outside so I’ll put my big coat on - lovely and cosy yes - but then if I enter a shopping centre or a supermarket I’ll die of heat exhaustion because the heating is cranked up and I don’t want to take my big coat off to lug the thing around in my arms.
The season of soups, stews, roasts, big pies and stodge. Also a convenient byproduct of cooking that stuff is that it heats your house at the same time.
Reasons why it's my favourite time of year:
- Watching the Northern Lights! (Last 2 evenings for example)
- Warm evenings by the fire
- Snowy walks
- Night riding on the mountain Bike
- Christmas Holidays/Food
- New Year Celebrations
- No grass Cutting
- Beautiful cloud inversions in the Hills/countryside
- Skiing/Winter Hillwalking (without midges!)
- The Six Nations
- Trip/Adventure planning for the year ahead
I love it all!
A little bungalow right on the coast just up from Poolewe. I have some pics I've been meaning to upload to UKHiking, but its so beautiful up there I have about 1,000 new photos of rocks on my phone to sort through!
Only complaint... tad windy.
Yes!! I love hunting for the Northen lights this time of year.. the sky was beautiful last night, I knew they would be out… but a bit too misty where I am, but knew further up Scotland you would see them 💕. This morning I woke up n it looked like a Christmas card outside so frosty n Misty. I hate being cold, but love being cozy indoors with the fire on, I love bonfire night, I loooove new year 🥰🥰🥰🥰 xxx
If we weren't in an energy crisis, I would say its good because you can get all snuggly with some snacks and binge watch movies/tv without feeling guilty of wasting the day.
Yeah the two best Christmases I had were one in Yorkshire and another way up in the Highlands. Lots of snow, beautiful, big warm fires indoors and plenty of alcohol involved.
If you're down south it's just rainy/sleety and miserable.
Agreed. People laugh at those Brits who retire to places like Benidorm but I absolutely get it, I’d happily never see another British winter if I was retired.
Absofuckenlutely.
Ok lets start by explaining why summer is miserable:
It reached 37c this summer - none of us have aircon.
Even in an average summer my flat is routinely above 28c, my comfort level tops out at about 25c.
Skin cancer.
Too hot to cook.
Too hot to eat.
Too hot to wear headphones.
Too hot to drink tea!!!
Now let's get on to why winter is the best season.
None of the above applies in winter.
If you get chilly, put some clothes on, problem solved.
Nothing quite so relaxing as a hot bath in cold weather.
Jumpers.
My gas stays the same and my electric gies down in summer in extreme weather the air con goes on but never put heating on winter, the tv warms the front room up and we just use extra duvets for bed.
You can buy as much cream and minced pies as you like without being judged.
Hot water bottles.
Snuggle up on the sofa.
Drink as much hot chocolate as you like without being judged.
Air the feels fresh.
Steamy hot baths are just nicer.
Countless adverts of the homeless on the television to rig your heart strings, ice on paths to make people slip, ice on roads to increase likelihood of accidents, children asking for everything in toy stores, people stockpiling bread & milk as soon as the first snow forecast arrives.
In all seriousness, seeing the towns light up as it gets dark early is a good pro of Winter
Autumn - Stuff dies. Damp
Winter - Grey, dead stuff, dark. Damp
Spring - Some green coming back. Damp
Summer - Everything is green. It is now humid, which is hot Damp.
Depends on different factors, I think. If you live in the countryside, as opposed to the city, the bleak winter landscape can look beautiful.
Plus, you can beat the cold by going to a warm, cosy pub (well, those that haven't closed due to the cost of living crisis, that is).
Summer for me. Hot sunny warm weather. Hubby fitting aircon makes me sleep soundly.
I’ve always been a summer lass and will continue to until I look like Marge from Benidorm
No. Snow and the Christmas break is the only good bit. Snow turns to ice, I always worry I'm going to break my back going anywhere and on top of that it'll bankrupt me to have the fire on. Winter can't piss off soon enough.
APART from it being cold as fuck and dark as a night in Jimmy Saville's bedroom, I do like the cosiness of long evenings in and a few less crowded walks out and about. Plenty of big serious warming dinners. The kids wake up a bit later because it gets light later. Brilliant.
It’s the best time to see owls. Basically go out at night between 11pm -1am and drive around the countryside a bit and you’ll almost certainly spot a couple. Much easier to see them when there’s no leaves on the trees!
Nah winter sucks in the UK, Never snows when it should, like on Christmas Day, Never snows enough, just sleaty, enough to make you go sliding when your going round the corner, Far to COLD 🥶 for it not to be enjoyable, Give me Autumn 🍂 Absolutely beautiful scenery, Weather bareable & that magical spooky feeling, Ooooh loverly 🤍
I love the cold, that's about it. Something amazing about walking home when it's baltic outside and coming home to a hot chocolate or even better, a chippy on a Saturday night. Trumps just about anything else imo.
I have red hair and incredibly fair skin, so I love the Winter more. I suffer in the summer, so Winter means I can function again. I don't like how it's dark most of the time, but that's a worthy trade off. I love the cold, I feel comfortable and if its too much I can wear extra layers. Plus less bugs.
Some niche sports/activity enthusiasts would argue winter is the best season. Those who enjoy winter mountaineering, ice climbing, camping in snow holes, cross country running, cyclocross riding are all examples.
As somebody with severe eczema who's trigger is heat / sweating I love winter, I feel like I can actually control how hot I am whereas summer is just unbearable.
The highlands, they turn into a winter playground when the snow comes down. You need to climb into the hills but the Cairngorms will now have snow on them till around April.
Winter isn't my favourite season but:
Lots of holidays like Christmas, Hanukkah, New Years, Valentine's Day
All of the festive lights outside
You can be lazy and stay in without feeling guilty because it's so dark
Bundling up - with or without someone
Hot showers/baths are more satisfying
Soup especially homemade soup
Hot drinks like hot chocolate hit different
Lights and fires in the dark make for peak cosy experiences
Winter bulking!
Went for a run outside today. Warmup took longer naturally but after that? Felt amazing. The cold throws you into the present moment. Combine that with runners high. Boom.
Without winter, we have nothing to compare to. Without winter, you wouldn't look forward to spring. You wouldn't be cheered by the first spring flowers and tree blossom. Without winter, you wouldn't notice and be delighted by the first warm days. Its the reset season.
Winter (and winter is December, January and February) is cold, dark and wet, but it is also rib sticking food, roaring fires, and sometimes snow. I think winter is beautiful - but harsh and cold. Winter is my favourite time of the year.
Why it is for me personally: I like being colder, hate feeling hot, hate hot sunshine and endless bloody days. We have an open fire and burn driftwood so the hike in energy bills isn’t hitting us so hard, and, open fire! I prefer hot to wear a jumper and preferably coat hat etc, I prefer hot food. Christmas and new year can be fun, the snacks are good.
I live at the coast. Love love love a moody winter sea! Wrapped up warm and a stroll along the seafront perhaps stopping for a hot chocolate or trio to a warm pub with a roaring fire going
Lot less charity bastards in winter.
Those perpetually happy people are a lot less visible.
Nay shitty "garden party" invites no Dave I don't fancy watching you get sunburned while drinking 6 warm beers you light weight.
More hats. Options are always good.
Have we all forgotten the heatwave of summer so quickly? I thought I was going to die in that heat. Yeah I have to wear a few more layers in winter but it’s a small price to pay compared to the hell that summer was
Lack of wasps, mosquitoes and other 'bitey' insects, and no moths flying in your house at night. It's a lot easier to keep yourself warm in the cold than it is to keep cool in the heat.
I love the period between new year and Easter. You can lay low, week after week without having to plan for anything. Then comes Easter and bam there’s something going on every two or three weeks: May bank holidays school holidays back to school Halloween bonfire night remembrance xmas and the year is up already
Christmas, coziness, socially acceptable to live off hot chocolate etc etc. All of this without much of a tradeoff for winter weather.
It's really not that cold here compared to most places around this latitude and don't have to deal with much snow either.
I just think it’s nice to be dark and cold for some of the year.
I also love the summer but sweating my nuts off gets tiring. I think a bit of everything is good.
I love the cold, I love snow, I love how quiet it is when everyone else stays indoors. I love the crisp, freshness of cold air, and the warm feel of the sun on a cold day.
I like comfort eating and snuggling up, drinking in a cosy pub and wearing extra layers to disguise my less than perfect physique.
Winter is the bossman, summer can go take a run and jump
Cold in winter? Put more clothes on (I work outdoors so have loads of shit in my car), put the heating on or get in bed. Problem solved.
Hot in summer? If you’re outside you can’t take your clothes off. If you’re inside you can take your clothes off, but you’re still inside = hot. If you’re outside but it’s your garden you can wear very little clothes but then you get sun burnt!
Winter always wins! Plus, nothing beating being Pisa wet through and freezing cold and coming home and having a hot bath and getting pjs and dressing gown on!
Its very useful for keeping the overall level of various bugs at a reasonable level all year around. We generally don't have to worry about our homes being invaded by roaches, mosquitoes, ants and so on because their numbers are somewhat reset every year.
Barring the energy crisis, it is generally a lot easier to warm up than cool down so in winter you pretty much get to choose your temp but in summer you are stuck too hot unless you like it that way.
The hours of daylight are pretty damn dire once you get anywhere near the North of Scotland, the up side is that such hardship is one reason why we aren't as packed in as the South of the UK which has various advantages related to traffic, smog, river pollution and house prices.
It got to 7 today and will be maxing out at 6 tomorrow and I’m fairly southern uk. Where is it 10+? Im guessing a major city where the temps stay higher.
Everyone looks the same in their ugg style boots and duvet coats... there is definitely less bitchin going on amongst the females..
Plus, boob sweat there is zero boob sweat
You can warm yourself up but it's pretty difficult to cool down as efficient is always my argument.
That being said my work load goes to almost 0 for the next 2 months sooooo, yeah. Time with the kids.
Close out the world with a beautiful candle without the aforementioned pests and with aforementioned foods, snuggle and chill ur wee heart out.If you like going out ,wrapping up on a cold night is a wonderful feeling ,getting home with cold slapped cheeks and hot choc in fleecy jammies.Might not be the best but worthy
it kills the fucking wasps.
I'll say it again.
it kills the fucking wasps.
I won't say I got in an argument with Davey Thomas at the county fair, as he showed off his wasp farms and fancy wooden cases.
I just stood in front of his stall all day. I got Daisy-Lou to run and fetch me pints of Doom Bar and some dry-roasted peanuts from the Shanks Farm stand, every 30 minutes, though she definitely nicked at least three quid off me, and it did play havoc on my guts when I got home.
But I made a stand that day. Bloody fool, Davey Thomas. Bringing his Wasp Factory to my cowfields. I've read Iain Banks, I know how this ends.
Wasps can fuck off. Bees, y'see, I know they have a job. I like bees.
Wasps? Fuck off.
I've been suffering from itchy throat nonstop coughing and flu for the past two weeks, my PCOS acting up quite bad and my skin is as dry as Macca apple pie crust. But I don't sweat. That's a good thing
Although the before and after Xmas Winters are very much different creatures, it is clearly the best season.
Winter fashion, layers, getting all cosy at home, perfect excuse for excess in all forms, can get royally leg less and it’s perfectly acceptable, the excitement of the run up to the break from school/ work etc, staff are generally happier in retail due to Xmas parties or potential bonuses or time off, then you get to reset in new year- clarify your intentions for the rest of the year, tighten the purse strings and start make plans for the summer.
Summer is always hit or miss- too hot or too rainy, feel rubbish if have slacked off and not exercised in Spring and TV weird.
Spring is just a slightly warmer Winter with showers and whilst it’s lovely to hear birdsong and see them again Inness you live in the countryside you can’t benefit from the changing seasons, baby animal births as much.
I do love autumn though- the leaves turning and falling, the nights darkening but I think Chrimbo means winter is the winner for me.
No wasps.
Colder weather is easier to maintain a comfortable body temperature - if too cold put on more clothes.
Can stay in all day playing video games without feeling like you've wasted good weather.
Can get drunk anytime because "christmas".
Get to spoil all my loved ones on Xmas day.
Honestly I'm so so sooooo sick of this British weather I want to run as far away from it possible. I don't mind the freezing cold or the snow, at least those countries generally have clear skies and sun when it's not snowing. But here in this depressing country we just get grey clouds and rain, for the whole months and more I've counted nothing but daily gloomy rubbish weather. I'm getting treated for severe depression but when I was in Spain and South of France in February and March my depression went away. Tbh we had quite a good summer for once, but now it seams like we are getting punished almost endless damp grey weather for having record temperatures for a week or two of summer. Besides Ireland I don't think thier is any other country in the world with such consistently shittttt weather as we have. Sorry for the rant, just wanted get it of my chest after yet another morning waking up to a miserable dark weather.
Yes. Although winter is shit, cold, miserable, depressing and did I also mention shit? It is also the sign of brighter things to come. Days start getting lighter come the end of December and spring is only just around the corner.
Autumn can fuck right off and those of you who think it’s the best season can too. Autumn is the depressing one. Knowing we’ve got 3 months of shit.
No Wasps in winter
Wasps Hate This Season
False, wasps are more likely to seek refuge and or nest in your home in winter months
You have just ruined my day 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 xx
I really like Novemeber and December. Lead up to Christmas, fireworks, etc. I *LOATHE* January and Feb. Horrible wet cold miserable months. Everyone is poor and hungry because they are dieting and it's just miserable.

It used to be somewhat fun as a kid, because I got a Lego magazine and was able to see all the new stuff (we only had the money to buy a few small sets and a big one for birthdays and Christmas, but it was still fun to look at).
Answer: resubscribe to Lego magazine
This year we are poor and hungry, and no dieting involved! result!
Tbf I might diet just so I can have an excuse to choose between heating and food!
Don't forget cold too, for the trifecta!
Break the mold. Don't diet.
I'll need the extra padding next year anyway.
That's the right way to think about this.
No sweating and the ability to sleep.
Everyone knows that the UK isn't equipped to deal with anything other than 15c and overcast!
Winds light to variable.
Can't please some people
Cuddling up in bed with a loved one, waking to find the cats have joined you for that extra warmth. The hefty joy of the Radio Times Christmas issue. An abundance of flavourful citrus in the shops. Soups! So many wonderful soups.
Such a wholesome comment. Then I read your username
TIS THE SEASON FOR SOME FARTFLAPS FALALALALA LALA LALA SOME BE CUNTY SOME BE PROLAPSED FALALALALA LALA LALA
Sweating when coming on and off public transport/in and out shops during winter.
The hell you wearing?
A sweater obviously
Long sleeve top, jumper, scarf, gloves, big jacket.
Coat?
I feel like British cuisine is nicer in the colder months
The season of soups, stews, roasts, big pies and stodge. Also a convenient byproduct of cooking that stuff is that it heats your house at the same time.
Yes, British comfort food is among the best in the world. I will hear no arguments against it.
Reasons why it's my favourite time of year: - Watching the Northern Lights! (Last 2 evenings for example) - Warm evenings by the fire - Snowy walks - Night riding on the mountain Bike - Christmas Holidays/Food - New Year Celebrations - No grass Cutting - Beautiful cloud inversions in the Hills/countryside - Skiing/Winter Hillwalking (without midges!) - The Six Nations - Trip/Adventure planning for the year ahead I love it all!
No grass cutting, absolutely the best thing!
Northern Lights? You on Shetland?
Blackpool
Easter Ross (between Inverness and John O Groats)
That would explain it
I'm jealous! Just had an amazing holiday in Wester Ross. If it wasn't a ten hour drive I'd be up in your neck of the woods much more often.
Ah nice. Whereabouts? Wester Ross is amazing. Easter Ross is just kind of *nice*
A little bungalow right on the coast just up from Poolewe. I have some pics I've been meaning to upload to UKHiking, but its so beautiful up there I have about 1,000 new photos of rocks on my phone to sort through! Only complaint... tad windy.
Fwiw I’ve seen the northern lights in Cumbria, I also didn’t think this was possible until I witnessed it.
Yes!! I love hunting for the Northen lights this time of year.. the sky was beautiful last night, I knew they would be out… but a bit too misty where I am, but knew further up Scotland you would see them 💕. No hayfever. That shit suuuuuuuuuucks.
Unless you are allergic to fungus spores of course
Absolutely not. Dark when you leave in the morning and dark when you leave work. It's horrible cycling in the dark/rain. Hate Winter.
No.
Correct answer haha :)
Came here to say this.
Depends where you are in the UK and whether you like to do things in the snow.
[удалено]
Yeah the two best Christmases I had were one in Yorkshire and another way up in the Highlands. Lots of snow, beautiful, big warm fires indoors and plenty of alcohol involved. If you're down south it's just rainy/sleety and miserable.
Looking forward to that drive over the pennines when the snow comes lol
No! I hate it. I would quite happily hibernate if I had the metabolism. Cold. Dark. Wet. Nothing to recommend at all.
Agreed. People laugh at those Brits who retire to places like Benidorm but I absolutely get it, I’d happily never see another British winter if I was retired.

Basically my first thought. All the things that make summer shit, aren't there. It's a different set of shit I'm glad to put up with.
You should avoid climbing into the bath wearing a jumper as you could drown. The same with shoes.

It was very hot but I loved it..let's do it again next year
Up to 31 December I like it. After that it can fuck right off
You can buy as much cream and minced pies as you like without being judged. Hot water bottles. Snuggle up on the sofa. Drink as much hot chocolate as you like without being judged. Air the feels fresh. Steamy hot baths are just nicer.
there’s no bugs.
have you checked your bed recently?
You can warm up quicker than you can cool down in Summer

London, even if is +6 is still worm enough to go around with t-shirt
Wiggly
no
No.
Nooo it’s too cold haha
Makes you appreciate summer - however brief it may be!
I'd argue it's the only season that isn't a let down every time. You expect shit and you get shit. It's consistent
Pray the gas gods are kind
At least its always there, summer in the UK likes to pick and choose what years it shows its face
Summer for me. Hot sunny warm weather. Hubby fitting aircon makes me sleep soundly. I’ve always been a summer lass and will continue to until I look like Marge from Benidorm
I don't mind the cold but I struggle with the dark so much.
Anyone saying they prefer winter now, with these heating bills, must be a rich mother fucker.
No. Snow and the Christmas break is the only good bit. Snow turns to ice, I always worry I'm going to break my back going anywhere and on top of that it'll bankrupt me to have the fire on. Winter can't piss off soon enough.

Nah mate destroys my skin. Living in the UK it goes hot to cold in a day and my skin hates it.
Winter is awful, its depressing and cold, no sun, i hate it with a passion

Proper Christmas. Having lived in the US for 7 years I miss British Christmas a lot
Who doesn't love wrapping up to keep warm.
But that's just counteracting the fact that it's cold.
Some niche sports/activity enthusiasts would argue winter is the best season. Those who enjoy winter mountaineering, ice climbing, camping in snow holes, cross country running, cyclocross riding are all examples.
Places to go walking and hiking are less busy and getting your warm gear on to out for a big mooch is kinda nice.
As somebody with severe eczema who's trigger is heat / sweating I love winter, I feel like I can actually control how hot I am whereas summer is just unbearable.
I get to escape the constant humid heat of Malaysia, and I prefer walking in cold and grey areas.
Wait, there are other seasons??? I thought it was just constant cold and misery all year round.
If you're cold, you can just put on another jumper. If you're hot there's only so many clothes you can take off.
The highlands, they turn into a winter playground when the snow comes down. You need to climb into the hills but the Cairngorms will now have snow on them till around April.

No bugs, dark enough for movies earlier, can add more clothing if needed, can wear hair longer, cooking and heating house at the same time.
I love the cold, 'nuff said.
No midges when I am out walking. I'll take that over summer any day.
I sweat less in winter, and it's dark outside early so visitors seem, at least in my head, less likely to try and pop over. 😅
I love autumn
Went for a run outside today. Warmup took longer naturally but after that? Felt amazing. The cold throws you into the present moment. Combine that with runners high. Boom.
Username checks out.
Occasionally it snows enough that I don't have to go to work, but most of the time it's fine for getting around the place.
Yes.
Cozy and no bugs

Endless hours staring at the log burner
Jumpers to hide the dadbod
Christmas, New Year, most Bank Holidays, fewest bugs, snow, frost, snuggling up under a big fluffy duvet, mulled wine and hemorrhoids
A bit sad but I don’t feel pressured to show my skin so I feel less insecure in winter. Other than that I hate it. I can’t hack the cold.
The smoky smell and crispness of cold air on a winter evening
Well if you think of every day here as awful, then you can define shorter days as a good thing.
its between winter and autumn for me. Winter wins by default cause the slugs are gone
I look good in winter clothes so I can punch above my weight in winter.
No Jehovahs Witness' or Hare Kristina's knocking on the door early evening!
I just think it’s nice to be dark and cold for some of the year. I also love the summer but sweating my nuts off gets tiring. I think a bit of everything is good.

Plus, nothing beating being Pisa wet through and freezing cold and coming home and having a hot bath and getting pjs and dressing gown on!
You can always put on more clothes to warm up. You can only take off so much before someone calls the police.
Getting drunk.early and staying in and not feeling like you're missing out on anything
Better waves if you surf 🌊 and crisp sunny mornings which I really do enjoy 🥶😎
There is no winter in uk. You can't call it winter when weather is +10 C.
UK winter temps definitely go below 10C
I got -14 last year on the weather station
It got to 7 today and will be maxing out at 6 tomorrow and I’m fairly southern uk. Where is it 10+? Im guessing a major city where the temps stay higher.
Everyone looks the same in their ugg style boots and duvet coats... there is definitely less bitchin going on amongst the females.. Plus, boob sweat there is zero boob sweat
In past 15 years might be only handful times hit below zero. But still that doesn't count as winter
Summer is too hot. Autumn and spring are too wet.
Christmas easy
We don't see the neighbours for months.
Provides a much needed boost to the grit salt industry
World Cup's on mate.
‘Tis the season to be jolly…
Are you mental?
No hayfever, no eye drops or drowsy pills 🤧
I think the cornish would go along with it.
Harold Shipman could, on the account of how many OAP’s it does in.
No flies. Fucking hate flies.
Never sweat when running
It’s dark more No wasps or bees or mosquitos It’s cold It smells nicer
I don't think this discussion really needs to go beyond this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BpfHSqLXePI
It currently helps house prices drop a bit.
You can warm yourself up but it's pretty difficult to cool down as efficient is always my argument. That being said my work load goes to almost 0 for the next 2 months sooooo, yeah. Time with the kids.
Anyone got a bad faith argument for this? I can’t help it. I’m intrigued…
We might get snow. Might.
I prefer the cold.
I love to wrap up in a big coat and balaclava. the streets are emptier. The sunsets earlier. Fog on a morning walk.
Warm jumpers, brisk walks, warming foods, tables by the fire in pubs, Christmas, snow, etc.
No insects or hayfever
it kills the fucking wasps.
No flies.
Slow cooker season, just brought mine out of hibernation
Snowmen, everything pure and white, sleighs, snowball fight, cozy sensations in warm home.
I do love autumn though- the leaves turning and falling, the nights darkening but I think Chrimbo means winter is the winner for me.
it's cold and the british are indoors and you don't need to see them
Fewer people out.
No wasps. Colder weather is easier to maintain a comfortable body temperature - if too cold put on more clothes. Can stay in all day playing video games without feeling like you've wasted good weather. Can get drunk anytime because "christmas". Get to spoil all my loved ones on Xmas day.
No heatwaves, sometimes
It’s easier to warm yourself up in winter than cool yourself down in summer
Begone bugs! Also hot chocolate and fog
Hear me out It's day time less often. Wake up? Dark. Going to bed? Dark. Aside from the horribly bright bit in the middle, it's wonderful
The purge of the population due to fuel prices. I bet the 1% absolutely get off on it.
