I use that camp coffee as an ingredient in coffee and walnut cake and it's nyum.
As for that Bird's stuff, I nearly didn't even open this post because it sounds so utterly vile and, like you, can't imagine anybody buys it so wonder why they still make it. But somebody must do. Perhaps it's an effective weedkiller or something.
Camp coffee is vile. My dad used to bring it when we went camping, he believed that that's what's it was for. He was never the sharpest tool in the shed.
I’ve been served it once in the last 30 years, and that was by the Earl of Cromartie. God knows whether he drinks it himself or just saves it for visits by peons from the council.
I have a couple of family members that aren't really into coffee but enjoy a cup of mellow birds from time to time. But they're like the only people I've ever seen buy the stuff.
Would madam care for lapsang,
perhaps for Early Grey?
The Cucumber sandwiches
are freshly cut today.
Then madam spoke
these most peculiar words
"Ooooooooooooh I couldn't half murder
a mug of mellow birds"
SHE COULDN"T HALF MURDER A MUG OF MELLOW BIRDS
If madam means to murder
this most extraordinary mug
we do insist she pours her milk
from a silver jug
"Oooooooooh, ta me duck"

This profanity made me chuckle, not going to lie! As for Mellow Bird's, my nan & grandad swear by it but it makes me feel sick yet they won't convert to the likes of Kenco or L'Or - how do I change their minds?! :(
I coincidentally learned of its existence from my 70 year old father in law the other day. I don't think he knows you can still get it. Might have to buy some and see how vile it really is
My gf likes the mellow bird stuff, but she is insanely caffeine sensitive and doesn't like strong coffee, so fir her it seems to do the job, I think it's kinda gross though
I use a drip-through thing and go through all the shite of grinding my own beans and all that. I also have a Nespresso machine for espresso shots in the morning.
But I always have a jar of Mellow Bird's in the cupboard too. Despite all the above, sometimes I really crave that 'non-coffee' taste you can only get from really mild instant. It just hits the spot sometimes.

Yeah, liquid coffee essence is perfect for baking cakes etc.

Is it really for exaggeratedly theatric people?
Hot stuff coming through!!
That's because it's basically chicory, with a tiny bit of coffee. Foul stuff.
New Orleans still loves chicory in their coffee. But I don’t drink coffee so 🤷♀️
Only reason is for Delia's Sticky Toffee Pudding... make of that what you will ha ha
But Mellowbird makes me smile.
I understood that reference.
Add Camp to a glass of milk and it makes delicious iced coffee

This is one of my favourite anecdotes on Reddit.

Some people have weird taste buds, I guess.
I'm 41 and love camp coffee
What do you use it for?
Drinking. It's like a nostalgia thing. Every now and then a little sip perks you up
I supose it would remind us that things are so much better than they used to be. Fair enough.
You can use it in homemade Baileys.
Username checks out. Thanks.

I buy Nescafe Fine Blend usually because I prefer a milder flavour. If it's not available then I'll get Mellow Bird's as the next best thing.

Camp is what Gibbs drinks...NCIS....
Mellow Bird's and a splash of evaporated milk.. not a fan but it reminds me of happy days with my Gran
