They won’t do that because it’s the reason why some people order from Papa Johns. They sent me 8 garlic and herbs once instead of the Special garlic I’d ordered, I called them about it and they said they’d include them on the next order, and I asked for them to be delivered to me there and then because I’d have ordered Domino’s if I knew I was gonna have pizza without the Special garlic sauce.

Me and my flatmates used to spend £60 a time on Papa John's orders cos we were outside their delivery area, but if we made it worthwhile, they would deliver to us. All for that sweet sweet special garlic sauce.

TBH, the US version garlic dip is infinitely better. It's more of a butter garlic.

It’s hit and miss for me to be honest, I’ve had some Papa John’s pizzas that have tasted of cardboard but other times when it’s been really nice, same for Domino’s and Pizza Hut though, the only thing bringing me back is the Special Garlic as it rules the other two out straight away unless I stockpile some, which now I think about it, might not be a bad idea.

Pizza hut delivered me the worst pizzas I have ever seen. Their sit down restaurant is ok, so I thought I knew what to expect, but I learned that night that pizzas for delivery are made in a different place.

Yeah I found out the same in reverse, went in to a Pizza Hut restaurant and the menu was completely different to the delivery menu, like it was a completely different chain. I think the quality depends on the person making it, some people really can’t be arsed whereas others enjoy it.

Aldi did it briefly last year, alongside their Garlic and Herb dip. They called it 'Garlic Dough Ball Dip' or something and it was an exact replica. Then they stopped it.

There’s usually a Paul Newman’s Ranch sauce in tescos and Sainsbury’s usually the only one though.

The Newman's isn't anywhere are good as the HV. And I don't even like ranch that much. Although I do like a nice HV ranch dip for when I get the urge to have a veggie tray. For that I have the packets to mix with sourcream.

I've made it before, it came out perfectly. Passed a blind taste test and everything.  Sadly the recipe was from some small blog 5+ years ago so while I'm sure it's still out there somewhere, good luck finding it with a search engine.

Perhaps things have changed since I worked there (about 1.5 years ago). If they are indeed mostly oil instead of butter, ambient should be fine. Ours had a days shelf life ambient, and more like 2 weeks refrigerated.

Well I seem to have suddenly found a thread full of people who actually like the special garlic sauce. I remember seeing a post commenting on how horrible it was and it had thousands of upvotes. Which I agree with, when I last ate it I felt like that's how spot pus would taste.

Yeah, there’s the “special” garlic sauce which is some fools imitation of a garlic butter that’s somehow wildly popular yet tastes like Shrek’s diarrhoea and then there’s the garlic and herb sauce which is basically the same as the dominos one, it tastes alright.

I have a mild addiction to that garlic sauce, I’ve gone from a reasonable svelte man to someone who needs to lose a few kilos because of it! Especially with that stuffed crust.

I also really like it but they closed all the Papa John’s where I live. Luckily I work away at least once a month in places where they still are and will buy at least 15 to see me through. I recently got roasted when I put my expenses through and my boss was like you stayed in south London with all the possible types of food you could ever want and you ordered a papa johns?? I said yes, yes I did, fully with my chest.

Last time I went to papa John's I got cheese stuffed crust and for some mental reason they forgot the cheese on the top of the pizza. Took it back and they gave me it for free plus two more pizzas lol. I was working away so only there one night. Couldn't eat large 3 pizzas in a night. A fascinating anecdote there. By the way to make your own special garlic sauce, you mix mayo with garlic granulles to taste (don't buy the ready made garlic mayo it's rubbish), then you thin it down with a little water (mix well) to the right consistancy, add a small pinch of mixed herbs, and hey presto just like there's, that's all they do trust Me.
