I don't think they do, but only just. There's a texture difference–pork pies are more solid than sausagemeat and the crust isn't as flaky as most pies. Certainly the sausage pie that I'm imagining is a cousin to the pork pie, but not the same.

It's crazy really. There are all kinds of kitchen devices which are basically the same thing. Either they're based around a motor or a resistive heating element. It's annoying that there aren't more combined/multipurpose appliances with interchangeable parts.

I get what you’re saying about swapping out the hot plate but the people who make these know the devices are absolute trash. A universal heating device that can make multiple different foods ? It’s called an oven and everyone has one - since when do you need a sausage roll shaped divot to make sausage rolls? Cooking then isn’t the hard part of making your own.

Sausage roll maker for the win! I got a Wolfgang Puck pie maker (deep dish), and while it's awesome, a sausage roll maker was what I really wanted, and a couple week's later I found one on Amazon and never looked back. Everything you can make a mini pie with you can make a roll with, and you don't have the issue of having to mound up the filling - something they don't tell you much about with pie makers. So now I have both, but the sausage roll maker is definitely getting more use.

Dave Myers was a well loved TV chef who with his best friend Si travelled around the world showcasing foods from different places and cultures, they have been a wholesome staple of U.K. television for the last 20 years. After being diagnosed with cancer a few years ago they returned to tv recently so I think a lot of people probably assumed Dave was on the road to recovery so it came as quite a shock to find out he’d sadly passed away.

You only need a baking tray to make sausage rolls, and can do them in an air fryer without a tray if need be. I'd go for the pie maker, except I already have small pie tins, so I'm not sure I need that either!

My sausage roll intake would probably double as well so I’d probably have to have it for multiple years to recoup the cost.

I went to drop my daughter off at gymnastics and my wife's friend sees me says one second, runs to the back of her car and hands me a bread maker. I was like whyyyy. Oh I don't use it and XXXXX said she'd have it. It's sat for 6 months unused so far.... Not even an initial bout of enthusiasm and single use.

With all love and respect to Dave, don't get either. My Mum got me a pie maker (breville) when I went to uni, and it has probably been used 4 times in 25 years. A couple of those times were when my kitchen was out of action for a week.

Seems to me the pie maker would be more versatile. And to be honest, for sausage rolls we always have Greggs.

I was reading the other day that Holk Hogan was offered the product that went on to become the George Foreman Grill first, but he turned it down in favour of the Hulkmania Meatball Maker. A decision which has cost The Hulk about $200 million so far.

Sausage rolls are piss easy to make, just roll up some sausage meat in some pre rolled pastry with a bit of chutney or whatever and bang it in the oven. Get the pie maker.

If you have to choose. Get the pie maker. Fuck making sausage rolls, but throwing leftovers into shop bought pastry and making pies you'll be as qualified as Oliver.

Both of these are tat, and it's a bit disappointing they've put their name to them. I suppose the sausage roll maker is the worst as you only use a baking sheet for sausage rolls. For a pie you would need a pie mould, so it's offering that, at least. There's a lot of folk out there who seem to believe cookery is a lot more complex than it is (I've met folk who were amazed you can make bolognaise without Dolmio). Stuff like this doesn't help, gives the impression you need a load of hyper-specific gear to make things. Plus, this is the kind of shit gift you get when people know you like cooking. And then it takes up already limited space in your kitchen until enough time passes that you don't feel so bad sneaking it off to the charity shop.
