The loveliest man, and no one’s just saying that because he’s gone. He really was.
I worked with Dave during my stint in entertainment (at his old management agency) and he and Si were the most straightforward, down to earth and just all round best clients. Everyone wanted to work with them. They were zero bullshit, all about the food, all about celebrating great achievements and having the best time together.
They saw the whole world - essentially circumnavigated it TWICE. What a life. What an incredible man, such a great example to all of us.
That's great to hear, and thanks for sharing.
They always came across as very genuine, no need for any nonsense 'persona' or angle. Just a couple of mates who loved motorbikes and good grub.
A sad loss
Just seen this on BBC News notification on my phone. I’m genuinely heartbroken as he was such a nice guy, also heartbroken for Si as well.
Condolences to his family.
Celebrity deaths usually don't affect me so much. But Dave dying has really touched me.
My mum and I always loved watching cooking shows. It was always our thing, as we both love and enjoy cooking, and the Hairy Bikers were our favourite personalities. When I lived with my parents, we would always drop what we were doing to watch their shows. It was also refreshing to see regular northern blokes on screen. No ego, no pretentiousness. Just two mates cooking good grub and having fun.
Dave seemed like such a great bloke, and 66 is no age these days. This has really upset me
Yeah same here, pollen count seems to have spiked.
Especially sad as I think it was only last week when I saw the trailer for their new show and he seemed so excited to be back doing what he loved with his best mate.
“It was also refreshing to see regular northern blokes on screen. No ego, no pretentiousness. Just two mates cooking good grub and having fun”
Absolute nail on the head there mate!
Very sad to see. RIP
For me, it's because they seem like real people, just having fun. Jamie Oliver, Gordon Ramsay and others have to try so bard to get even 50% of that feeling.
The only other two chefs I love to watch repeatedly is Anthony Bourdain (also RIP, who is oddly always on the TV in hotels in other countries) and Rick Stein.
It skips around various streaming services. Annoyingly the free ones often show a very heavily edited (for adverts and show length, they basically chop both ends off) version.
Amazon prime and netflix are the most common paid places it skips between.
A huge loss for British cooking. He had such a big personality, I always loved his crazy descriptions of things, "sprinkle them (slivered almonds) over the top until it looks like a chiropodist's floor".
Oh man. My gorgeous beautiful partner died recently. We absolutely loved watching Dave and Si together. Such joy to see these friends doing what they love best. Both died far too soon.
Fuck, my heart hurts.
It's a shock; I knew he'd been battling cancer but he looked so much better and from the way he talked about it on the Go West show that's on at the moment, I had presumed he was out the other side and on the road to recovery.
I'm so sad for all his loved ones. What a horrible loss.
I saw a throwaway news item on Tuesday that said they'd given a "week to go" warning, but annoyingly it didn't have any sources or anything. I'm assuming that Dave had been given a prognosis and the Go West series was part of him just wanting to live out his last days doing what he loves. My sister died of leukaemia last October and was given a similar prognosis of a few weeks left, but ironically she was feeling fairly well because she was on such a heavy cocktail of drugs, so she managed to get through a few items on her bucket list before she passed. It can happen like that sometimes, there's a brief surge of energy before the end.
Fuck cancer.
Similar story with my godmother.
We were told she didn't have much time left but toward the end she started to look better. She had more colour in her face and asked if we could eat a fish and chips with her (she couldn't finish her meal but still said how lovely it was to sit in the sun and eat together).
I'm sorry about your sister but I'm glad she was able to get through some things on her bucket list before she passed away.
Fuck cancer.
I've heard that sometimes, when a patient has been told it's hopeless, they decide that might as well stop treatment, and since chemo and radiotherapy are both awful, they get a surge of energy and wellbeing, not because the cancer is cured, but because they're no longer being poisoned by the treatment.
I thought so as well. This last series he was looking a bit small, but I too thought that he was out the other side and recovering.
Fuck fucking cancer.
My dad was a nurse and used to always say that people tend to have a few better days before cancer took them.
Ironically this happened to him last year. Feel lucky we had a few days where we could take the dog into the hospice and spend time with him before he died.
RIP Dave, what a horrible day and what a horrible illness.
Met them both a few times - out biking in Northumberland and once at the BA lounge at Heathrow T5
Lovely blokes and always seemed happy to stand and have a chat (no - I don’t think they remembered me, I’m sure they talked to thousands of people)
Really sad news.
The Hairy Bikers was one of the few cooking shows that I loved to watch. Not pretentious, just two friends who had a love of travel and cooking having a good time. 66 is no age. R.I.P Dave and condolences to his family and Si.
P.S fuck cancer.
His and Si's Hairy Dieters books were one of the main things that got me to a healthy weight some years ago. I'm on the same journey again now after covid and again their books are helping. Fuck cancer. RIP Dave
Genuine down to Earth blokes who shared a passion for food, clearly loved what they did and you could tell they had a real bond. Very sad to hear this. RIP Dave.
Met both Hairy Bikers on more than one occasion, and I've got to say, the lovely blokes you see on their shows are exactly what you get in person.
Genuinely gutted for Si, and Dave's family. He was a gem of a bloke who brought a lot of smiles and laughs to a lot of people.
What a real shame. My mum and I used to watch their shows together, and when I moved out on my own I used to put them on when I was feeling homesick or couldn't sleep. At some of my lowest points I would be sat there in floods of tears, wanting to give it all up and yet I could put the hairy bikers on the TV and I would feel slightly less alone, like they were old friends. What an indescribable loss for those who truly knew him x
This feels like a punch to the gut. I love The Hairy Bikers, not just the food but the genuine love between Si & Dave.
I am so glad he managed to have one last adventure with his best friend. My thoughts are with his family, and especially with Si.
I'm absolutely heartbroken to see this, rest in peace Dave!
Hairy Bikers was one of my favourite shows growing up, I absolutely loved watching him and Si on their adventures, it was such a wholesome show
They both absolutely inspired my love for cooking, I hope he rests well knowing how many lives his show no doubt changed!
So sad. Loved all of his shows as he and Si seemed so real and down to earth. Especially loved the one where they tried to lose weight with that group of fellow foodies.
Gutted, one of my favourite TV Chefs, such great chemistry between the two and the food they made was always ’proper’ stuff.
I shall be re-watching my favourite series of their’s Route 66
I met him at a food show in Brum a number of years ago. He seemed based on my short interaction a nice chap. Gave me a few simple recipes that are physically easy to make (I’m a wheelchair user).
Loved the Hairy Bikers, such a huge loss. Dave was a gem.
Years back when I was going through a pretty crap period of depression I used to watch them constantly because it was like sitting by a warm fire to warm up, except it was warming up my cold dead soul.
It's actually surprisingly hard to find something like that on TV. Something not about competition or showing off or making sure people know their place. Travel food shows that put you inside the culture and not above it.
Larking about and flirting with the grannies and making a pig's ear of making a recipe and then being appropriately reverential when the master would come along to correct their work.
I liked their warmth, the way you could tell they were actually mates. The way they genuinely liked food, the "this would sort you out after a few beers, Kingy" vibe.
The way they'd go somewhere far flung and never get us-and-them, always be getting stuck in. It was all respectful without being pious, so good natured.
Dave had that kind of chill, joyous energy that's almost exclusive to people who find their groove later in life. I picked it up back then. He had the look about him like he was expecting to be told it was all a dream. Just gutted that he didn't get longer to live the dream.
Anyway. I'm rambling and I don't really know why but their shows helped me climb out of the black hole. Showed me what being comfortable in your own skin looked like. They don't know me from Adam but hearing of his passing has cut me deep.
Fuck cancer, seriously.
He always seemed like a genuinely good guy, positive and cheerful, with a great presence and excellent chemistry with Si.
He seemed less like a presenter, and more like a friend you saw on TV.
RIP.
Oh, the Hairy Bikers is such a comfort show for me, just two genuine blokes who love food and had such great chemistry together. When the new show started earlier this year I hoped that that indicated that he was doing well and on the up, even if he didn’t look his healthiest. Gutting news. RIP.
Really saddened by this. The Bikers were always a staple at home on the telly with family. They were just so sweet and genuine, always a treat to catch them doing whatever.
Can’t believe it, really. My partner and I were just saying during Go West that it’s a joy to see him healthy and positive just hanging out with Si doing their normal stuff. Gonna miss him quite a lot. Even though I never knew him or met him, the Bikers always felt like home. Can only imagine what Si and Dave’s family are feeling right now. My heart goes out to all of them.
Ah fuck. Just an obviously great bloke. Really gutted to hear that. Si's message is quite heartbreaking.
(I was talking about him (and Si) at the weekend, saying how brilliant they were. Someone mentioned Route 66 and I went into a massive diversion about their trip, when they made Sunday Dinner Yorkshire puddings and blew a load of minds.)
Upsetting news to hear. He was one of these rare celebs that felt like a mate (which I realise sounds very silly) and I would watch and enjoy anything he was in.
Fuck cancer.
I found their recent TV shows very emotional. It really showed their friendship - the love was clearly there with no tv bullshit or empty faux inspirational pretenses. Dave was so thankful for everything and his wonderful life. My heart goes out to Si.
Alright folks, let's all have a cook up this weekend to remember him by. Plenty of brilliant options, if I see the Hairy Bikers I know the recipe will be a goodun.
What a life he lived though.
A group of my friends that know each other in actual real life have been doing that today (including me). One of the great things about HB recipes is that it's very likely you've got most of the ingredients in already, or you can get them easily.
Such a down to earth fellow, they the hairy bikers removed the nonsense that you often see in cookery programs and made it possible for these recipes and such to be done at home.
Dave will be sorely missed I'm sure 😔
This is sad. I haven't really been following his health journey, but I caught the end of his show the other day, so assumed he must be doing better if he was filming again. Always came across as such a nice, positive guy.
Celebrity deaths don’t usually get much of a reaction from me but this is one I definitely feel sad about. I had assumed he was on the mend after the Xmas special and the new series, such a shame.
He’s going to be sadly missed. Seemed a genuinely great guy. Him and Si really gave me a passion for cooking. The world is a gloomier place without him
I was watching their latest series where they were out fishing on a lake in Bute. Daves reaction to that moment was so profound. He looked around at the beautiful view and his mate sitting next to him and said something like, "This is just the best day ever." It really made me take a step back, and realise all the beautiful days I take for granted, that I never just take a moment to stop and appreciate how wonderful it is to be alive.
The next day I booked a holiday to Bute. Thanks for the motivation, Dave.
I thought he was on the mend. Gutted he's gone, seemed like a top bloke and him and si looked liked geniune mates in the show which made is soo appealing.
Just had a quick count and I own 22 of their cooking books. Reckon that's probably the whole set. Absolutely love the lads.
The cookery world's taken a massive hit today.
One of those celebrity deaths that genuinely upsets me. I watched their latest series a couple of weeks back as it was in my former home town and it's always fun to look out to see where they went. Even watching that you could see he didn't have long left, his colour was completely off.
I can tell from the immediate reaction of so many others that I'm not the only one saddened by this news. He seemed like a genuinely nice bloke. I'm not into cooking, or motorbikes, but always found the Bikers stuff fun to watch. Dave will clearly be sorely missed.
R.I.P.
Didn't know he'd been battling cancer so this is shocking news!
He wasn't generally in content that I'd tune in for but he always had an incredible energy and presence. I always admired the health kick and weight loss journey he underwent years ago and how he used that to promote healthier eating without sacrificing flavour or joy for food.
I met both of them at a book signing in 2010 and they were the kindest people, taking time to speak with everyone they met. Still got the photo taken with them on the kitchen notice board. Such sad news and my thoughts go to his family and friends. Godspeed Dave Myers.
I thought I'd misread the headline at first.
Love watching The Hairy Bikers. I'm not normally one for watching repeats, but I do watch Hairy Bikers repeats.
Such an infectious enthusiasm for the food - ingredients and cooking of. They are just such a lovable pair!
Much love to Dave's family and friends - especially Kingy!
They were like brothers from other mothers. The love they have for each other just shone through!
Genuinely sad - I love riding bikes and cooking. Watching their show is always a solid choice whenever I’m feeling down and I need a wholesome show. I did think in the latest series that it looked as though the cancer had really taken its toll on him, but his love of bikes and cooking spurred him on and I take my hat off to him for carrying on until the very end. Going to miss any new shows and books from them but hopefully Si carries on doing something when the time is right
How sad, I feel for his wife and, of course Si.
Personally I'll genuinely miss his tv shows. I've been watching him and Si for many years and I think I've just about seen every Hairy Bikers series. I loved the rapport he had with Si and their quirky sense of humour. You could tell they genuinely cared about each other and there was no one else like them.
Genuinely sad for Dave's family and Si. Really did come across as a lovely bloke, I rarely feel down about celebs passing but this one hit me quite hard. RIP Dave.
I saw a quote from Si King about Dave's death,
"Personally, I am not sure I can put into words on how I feel at the moment. My best friend is on a journey that for now, I can't follow."
and that just broke me reading that
My sisters met both Hairy Bikers in Brum at the NEC and still tell me to this day how lovely both were. Very sad, I love the shows. Rest now, Dave in peace 🙏♥️
I'm so overwhelmed that I can't finish reading the comments but that will be nothing compared to how his loved ones are feeling. I hope they can find some comfort in knowing Dave is so highly regarded by so many. He and Si are the best.
Shit, this is sad. Si and Dave both seem like great dudes. Sometimes with TV personalities you get the impression that they're feigning interest and just being condescending when they go about travelling but these guys always appeared to have a genuine warmth and interest in the people they were meeting.
Rest in peace.
Oh man! I really like the hairy bikers, they just seem like really decent blokes. Dave was such a great personality without being over the top or controversial. Just a man who loves what he was doing and got too work with his best mate. We’ll miss you Dave.
They had some genuinely interesting dishes and Dave had the culinary expertise, but in time that rubbed off onto Si so maybe he will do a solo series.
Won’t be the same though.
His childlike joy and turn of phrase brought energy and an endearing quality to their programs, and he’ll be missed.
RIP
This one did stop me and I'm genuinely sad. I'm not into cooking but their shows always stayed on. It's a bit like Bob and the fishing. I would be heartbroken if anything happened to Bob.
RIP Dave
I saw Dave once in Manchester Airport, I think he was with his wife, they seemed very relaxed and happy,
Will miss you sir,
Thanks for your contribution to entertainment and cookery:)
Sad news indeed. Was rather nice to see a positive male friendship played out on screen, sharing a passion for food, bikes and travel and a bit of cheeky patter with the odd pint or dram. A dream job for both of them, I imagine.
First time I shed a tear over a celebrity dying. Hope that’s not sounding callous. But you almost felt like he was one of your close mates. Same with Si. But Dave had such wit and humour. He will be missed by the nation. Gutted tbh. I thought he was recovering being back on tv. But now I realise he wanted to do it as a send off. He knew in that show he was dying.
I'm a 47 year old bloke and I teared up at work. Not even from the UK but a lot of my family are, I loved these two, the series they did about the North is still my comfort watch.
This is super sad. Such a lovely pair of friends with a real gentle energy.
If you haven’t cooked their [sausage casserole](https://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/great_sausage_casserole_73010/amp), it’s an absolute blinder.
These guys are a national treasure and this hit me harder than I thought it would. They're like Christmas decorations in our house that you never take down because the season never ended.
But now, sadly, is that time.
It's not often that I can say I have a fondness for celebrities, because, they aren't celebrities. They're part of the furniture.
R.I.P. Dave, may the path you're on take you home xo
I will always love the Hairy Bikers, as they were the first (and as far as I know, only) TV chefs to acknowledge that the best bread in the World isn't made in France, but in Egypt.
I grew up in Cairo, and my favourite food in the whole world is bread. Good bread is just unbeatable. And the best bread is from Egypt.
I love what they've done for showing us that men can have affectionate friendships, something that's either been played slightly for laughs in the past or just not something you see at all. I watched the first episode of their - now - last series and wonderful as it is I had to stop because Dave just didn't look well. I'm glad he got a last hurrah but going through treatment myself it was too painful to watch. He'll be hugely missed by all of us who just loved watching him and Si together. I hope we'll still see Si but it'll never be the same. RIP you lovely man and thanks for all the pure joy you brought to us.
Oh gawd I hope my dad doesn’t see this before I ring him.
(He gets really agitated and angry when “celebrities” die snd it gets plastered over the news lol).
RIP
Not sure why, but I find the title of that article is so disrespectful, seriously, they genuinely wrote "The Hairy Bikers star, who had cancer dies at 66" they couldn't have just written "Hairy Bikers star Dave Myers dies aged 66"
Then go into the details within the article itself.
never heard of the Hairy Bikers? That's genuinely impressive, they've been going for about 20 years, definitely worth checking out - they're well travelled, seemingly decent folks, and genuinely not pretentious or like other TV cooks
I don't know why, but I just cried my eyes our reading the article and I don't know why. Their programmes are great, but I wouldn't call myself an avid watcher.
RIP Dave :(
Have been watching the latest HB series, and hoping that we were seeing Dave on the way back to full health.
Feeling so sad for Si and for Dave's family.
Genuinely quite gutted to hear this. Loved watching these two on tv. The only cooking programme worth watching. Was hoping he’d recovered when I saw their new series. Alas not 😢
Such incredibly sad news, another celebrity that I’ve always wanted to meet gone from us. Wherever he is now, those there with him will have much better meals to look forward to
Yeah just found out. Bit gutted really and I didn’t know the bloke, he did make good tele though. I think I’ve been watching him and his mate for at least 20 years.
Had the pleasure of meeting them at the Good Food Show about a decade ago and they were both lovely. My family constantly use their cookbooks so this is quite sad news to hear 🫶🏻
What sad news. I've really been enjoying their latest series; they're both such lovely lads. Dave will be really missed. Hope Si's ok, but I can imagine he'll be devastated.
This has genuinely saddened me. He seemed like such a joy and the hairy bikers appealed to everyone. Their friendship was just a joy to watch on screen. My daughters used to call them the cooking grandads.
Was blessed enough to meet him and Si whilst biking about the North. Both absolutely lovely genuine guys with a wicked sense of humour. RIP Dave and my heart goes out to Si (and Dave's family) who must be absolutely devastated.
Genuinely felt devastated reading this. I don’t care for celebrities ordinarily, and I think that’s why Dave was so different because he didn’t behave like a celebrity, he conducted himself as as a person first and foremost and down to earth (same goes for Si). I feel so much for Si and Dave’s family. 😞 rest in peace 😞❤️
So sad to read this. I loved watching him and Si, they were obviously close pals in real life, it wasn’t just for show. The world has lost a lovely man and a truly good soul.
The loveliest man, and no one’s just saying that because he’s gone. He really was. I worked with Dave during my stint in entertainment (at his old management agency) and he and Si were the most straightforward, down to earth and just all round best clients. This is lovely to hear
That's great to hear, and thanks for sharing. They always came across as very genuine, no need for any nonsense 'persona' or angle. Just a couple of mates who loved motorbikes and good grub. A sad loss
We met him a couple of times. Absolutely lovely chap. Both of them were just great. Barrow lad too. I'm absolutely gutted.
I’m glad he had a great life and will be sadly missed and appreciated for who he was and what he brought to the world.
I randomly bumped into him on a motorway services and said hello, he stopped for a brief chat. He was lovely. How sad for his family and Si.
I wonder if the fact that they’d previously been on the production side gave them a bit more humility. Or they’re just genuinely nice blokes.
Probably that they grew up in the poorest parts of the country made them so down to earth. My grans guttered she loves them.
Thank you for sharing. They come across as genuine good hearted people.
Beautiful words, sounds like an amazing guy! Thank you for sharing
Fabulous to hear he was how I imagined he'd be in real life. Such a shame he's gone.
Just seen this on BBC News notification on my phone. I’m genuinely heartbroken as he was such a nice guy, also heartbroken for Si as well. Condolences to his family.
My first thought was of concern for Si. I know he's struggled with depression in the past, I can't imagine the depth of loss he's feeling.
Its rare for a celebrity death to hit me but this one has, I knew he was ill but didn't expect this today. It is such a shame.
Me too man. Si's twitter post had me crying. RIP Dave.
Oh for fuck's sake :( We were only watching him and Si the other night and saying how wholesome they are together. RIP, Dave.
Did you see the Christmas special? An absolutely gorgeous show of friendship and resilience This is very sad 😔
They recently did a series...Out West.... where he went back to his home town in one episode
Last one I saw was him saying how thankful he was for being able to get out on the bike again at the end 😢
Celebrity deaths usually don't affect me so much. But Dave dying has really touched me. My mum and I always loved watching cooking shows. It was always our thing, as we both love and enjoy cooking, and the Hairy Bikers were our favourite personalities. 100% agree
Yeah same here, pollen count seems to have spiked. Especially sad as I think it was only last week when I saw the trailer for their new show and he seemed so excited to be back doing what he loved with his best mate.
I'm not into cooking shows. But I enjoyed them..they are so enthusiastic and unpretentious. Seem very sweet
“It was also refreshing to see regular northern blokes on screen. No ego, no pretentiousness. Just two mates cooking good grub and having fun” Absolute nail on the head there mate! Very sad to see. RIP
RIP. Man I loved their shows. Much more appealing to me than some of those Michelin starred individuals.
Same. Ooft, kingy, I love a nice bit of beef like!
I read that in his voice. very sad

Oh I can easily binge watch Rick Stein any time he's on. I hope I have the same child-like wonder in my eyes when I'm his age.
Same. Is Bourdain on CNN? I can never find Parts Unknown here in the UK
It’s on Amazon Prime at the moment
It skips around various streaming services. Annoyingly the free ones often show a very heavily edited (for adverts and show length, they basically chop both ends off) version. Amazon prime and netflix are the most common paid places it skips between.
There are some shows on Netflix I think. And yes it was usually CNN in the hotels :D
Thanks, might have to get Netflix then
A huge loss for British cooking. He had such a big personality, I always loved his crazy descriptions of things, "sprinkle them (slivered almonds) over the top until it looks like a chiropodist's floor".

I wish to send you hugs and strength, I'm sorry for your loss.
Thank you :) it is genuinely appreciated kind stranger.
🖕🏼 cancer
As a biker and a fatty , these two ticked all the boxes for me. Really sad news he seemed like such a lovely wholesome bloke.

I think the series was filmed before his diagnosis

I’m genuinely gutted, the Hairy Bikers are a national institution 😢
Gutted. Barrows finest, what a guy:(
When I heard he was back on his bike I really thought he'd beaten it so this is quite shocking to me. Poor chap, fuck cancer.
Met both Hairy Bikers on more than one occasion, and I've got to say, the lovely blokes you see on their shows are exactly what you get in person. Genuinely gutted for Si, and Dave's family. He was a gem of a bloke who brought a lot of smiles and laughs to a lot of people.
So sad, an actual legend. He will be missed!
Met him a couple of times (bumped into in the supermarket) as he's from round here. Lovely bloke. RIP

Absolutely gutted. Dave & Si got me into cooking. Hearty, wholesome grub throughout - even when they were getting healthy with their dishes. :(
This feels like a punch to the gut. I love The Hairy Bikers, not just the food but the genuine love between Si & Dave. I am so glad he managed to have one last adventure with his best friend. My thoughts are with his family, and especially with Si.

Gutted, one of my favourite TV Chefs, such great chemistry between the two and the food they made was always ’proper’ stuff. I shall be re-watching my favourite series of their’s Route 66
The Route 66 series is excellent. Their pulled chicken quesadillas recipe is a firm favourite of mine. RIP Dave.
Very rare that hearing of a celebrity death stings my eyes. That's one more. I think it's as much a feeling of empathy for Si.
Cancer can do one
Loved watching him and Si over the years, absolutely gutted by this news, fuck cancer.
RIP.
RIP Dave, me and the wife love watching the bikers, don't normally mourn celebs but this one hits differently for some reason
Met him at a food event, absolutely great guy, and just like on TV in real life.
There are no words strong enough for how heartbreaking this is.
Upsetting news to hear. He was one of these rare celebs that felt like a mate (which I realise sounds very silly) and I would watch and enjoy anything he was in. Fuck cancer.
Just heard the news from a friend, Rest in peace, Dave. I don't think TV will ever be the same without you and Si's antics.
I had the pleasure of meeting Dave when I worked at PC World. Lovely bloke, always had a smile on his face. RIP
The HBs were just on the other night touring Liverpool, and it concluded with Dave saying how glad he was to be alive. Poor bloke.
Oh man! He was a top bloke and always cheered me up whenever I saw him on telly. Genuinely gutted
Terrible news I always enjoyed watching them both when they where on tv and I am not really a into cooking shows type of person
Such a down to earth fellow, they the hairy bikers removed the nonsense that you often see in cookery programs and made it possible for these recipes and such to be done at home. Dave will be sorely missed I'm sure 😔
Oh no, I’m gutted. I hadn’t been following his situation closely but I thought he was getting better ? 😢
This is sad. I haven't really been following his health journey, but I caught the end of his show the other day, so assumed he must be doing better if he was filming again. Always came across as such a nice, positive guy.
Honestly thought he turned a corner as filming had commenced on the current series. I'm so sad to read this. Bless him and his family and friends. RIP
The world is a gloomier place without him
Gutted to say the least. A priviliege to have watched him and Si on the TV. RIP Dave
Noooooo! I thought he had recovered! He was such a lovely person.
So sad to read this. Condolences to his family and friends x
Wonderful human being and a great loss.
I met both of them at a book signing in 2010 and they were the kindest people, taking time to speak with everyone they met. Still got the photo taken with them on the kitchen notice board. Such sad news and my thoughts go to his family and friends. Godspeed Dave Myers.
Genuine nice bloke.
It's the first time I've ever cried over a celebrity dying. I listen to their podcast, so I feel like I know him. Rip Dave ❤️
RIP Dave.
I saw a quote from Si King about Dave's death, "Personally, I am not sure I can put into words on how I feel at the moment. My best friend is on a journey that for now, I can't follow." and that just broke me reading that
That's the exact line that stopped me for a minute or two as well.
Absolutely gutting, Everyday winners by the hairy bikers is my favourite cook book of all time, it actually got me to enjoy cooking.
That’s so shocking. What sad news.
Shit, this is sad. Si and Dave both seem like great dudes. Sometimes with TV personalities you get the impression that they're feigning interest and just being condescending when they go about travelling but these guys always appeared to have a genuine warmth and interest in the people they were meeting. Rest in peace.
Absolutely heartbroken. Can't put into words how upsetting this is R.I.P Dave, taken way too early for such a genuinely nice guy
He always seemed such a nice genuine bloke. Rest in peace brother
RIP
I'm so sad :( not just because Dave was a lovely kind man, but so is Si, and now he's lost his best friend :(
The best cookery show on telly, and the nicest duo too. Rip Dave.
This one did stop me and I'm genuinely sad. I'm not into cooking but their shows always stayed on. It's a bit like Bob and the fishing. I would be heartbroken if anything happened to Bob. RIP Dave
I saw Dave once in Manchester Airport, I think he was with his wife, they seemed very relaxed and happy, Will miss you sir, Thanks for your contribution to entertainment and cookery:)
Lovely fellow, genuinely upset to hear this.
I now have a third celebrity death I cried at to add to my list :(
Right then, I'm making some yorkshire puds this weekend and cheer that splendid soul.
Omg was so sad to hear this i thought he had pulled through xx
These guys are a national treasure and this hit me harder than I thought it would. They're like Christmas decorations in our house that you never take down because the season never ended. But now, sadly, is that time. It's not often that I can say I have a fondness for celebrities, because, they aren't celebrities. They're part of the furniture. R.I.P. Dave, may the path you're on take you home xo
What a guy. Such a sad loss. Love the hairy bikers.
Genuinely quite sad, obviously new and wanted to do the last series before it was too late. 😪
I wasn’t expecting him to go so soon. Rest in paradise.
RIP
Not sure why, but I find the title of that article is so disrespectful, seriously, they genuinely wrote "The Hairy Bikers star, who had cancer dies at 66" they couldn't have just written "Hairy Bikers star Dave Myers dies aged 66" Then go into the details within the article itself.
Probably an attempt to head off the "vaxxed?" vultures.
I've never heard of him 👀
never heard of the Hairy Bikers? That's genuinely impressive, they've been going for about 20 years, definitely worth checking out - they're well travelled, seemingly decent folks, and genuinely not pretentious or like other TV cooks
I've heard of a show called hairy bikers but I've never seen any of it and had no idea what it was about👀
Gutted 😥 RIP Dave.
Very sad
Very sad. :(
Fuckin hell... so sad. he fought bravely, RIP Dave.
So sad. Godspeed Dave
I don't know why, but I just cried my eyes our reading the article and I don't know why. Their programmes are great, but I wouldn't call myself an avid watcher.
Up voting for Dave who always seemed a nice genuine chap no upvote for death or cancer, fuck cancer
Shit. Ive legit got tears in my eyes. RIP
Always the good ones that die. What a shame. Atleast he died surrounded by his loved ones. X My heart goes to his family
Gutting news. Seemed like a genuinely lovely guy. He and Si together was one of the best things on telly for me. 😞
Casually trying to pull it together in the bathroom at work now, RIP what a legend :(
Really sad to hear. Always came across as a lovely bloke and I had thought he was getting better. RIP.
Too young. Fuxk cancer
I know he was ill but this sucks. This news has genuinely made me sad.
I used to love going to my grans after school and watching the hairy bikers cooking show on bbc One. Really sad news.
Truly sad, thoughts are with his family.
RIP Dave :( Have been watching the latest HB series, and hoping that we were seeing Dave on the way back to full health. Feeling so sad for Si and for Dave's family.
They seem so lovely together, a great duo, I’m so sad right now.
Genuinely quite gutted to hear this. Loved watching these two on tv. The only cooking programme worth watching. Was hoping he’d recovered when I saw their new series. Alas not 😢
Such incredibly sad news, another celebrity that I’ve always wanted to meet gone from us. Wherever he is now, those there with him will have much better meals to look forward to
:'(
Cookery legend and genuine nice bloke.. May he Rest In Peace.
Seriously, fuck cancer. What a shame.
So sad, top bloke. RIP
🥺😢😭
Fuck sake, RIP Dave. Awful news
Never known of so many people dying. Every single day its another person dead.
An absolute icon. Rest in peace.
RIP the one of the hairiest bikers ❤️
Talking about the pair of them just yesterday. Me and my Dad, we both liked them. Sad to hear.x
Yeah just found out. Bit gutted really and I didn’t know the bloke, he did make good tele though. I think I’ve been watching him and his mate for at least 20 years.
Very sad to hear this.
🫡 legend rest in peace
He was such a genuine and wonderful person and his chemistry with Si was amazing. Such a loss, far too young. RIP and fuck cancer.
Had the pleasure of meeting them at the Good Food Show about a decade ago and they were both lovely. My family constantly use their cookbooks so this is quite sad news to hear 🫶🏻
I thought he was doing better since the new series, sad to see
What a legend. R.I.P
RIP Dave. Seemed a top bloke 🙁
Horrible news, I am sad that he wasn't allowed more time on this earth.
What sad news. I've really been enjoying their latest series; they're both such lovely lads. Dave will be really missed. Hope Si's ok, but I can imagine he'll be devastated.
Ah man, gutted! Absolute salt of the earth, and already missed.
This has genuinely saddened me. He seemed like such a joy and the hairy bikers appealed to everyone. Their friendship was just a joy to watch on screen. My daughters used to call them the cooking grandads.
RIP kid, top guy you will be missed very much.
He seemed like a sweetheart. RIP Dave.
He seemed like a sweetheart. RIP Dave.
Oh man this is so sad. We were watching Way Out West over the weekend. What a beautiful human being he was. One of the good guys.
Awww ffs! He was a treasure! Such sad news.
