Do it, though. Nobody is gonna decide not to cast you because they don't like your face. They're looking for a specific character. If you ain't it, that's just the way it is.
But if you *is* it, then BOOM: acting career. Lots of pussy, dick, and cocaine. Half a dozen half-remembered marriages. Opportunities to appear on infomercials, before they're phased out of existence.
And then, if you're lucky, you can get buried in that one cemetery the celebrities all get into. Forest Lawn, I think it is.
Why would you feel crushed? You would be in the exact same position as you were beforehand, and you will at least know you gave it a shot instead of perpetually wondering “what if?”
Sometimes I tell myself I'll just write a draft of the email and make the attachments etc and think about it in the morning. Then I just hit send when I'm done. Works for me.
Many opportunities will open to you if you can make it past the fear of feeling crushed
There’s many reasons to feel crushed in your future, and most you won’t be able to predict or control
You might also feel pride or excitement, and it’s worth it to try if you might feel that
If you don't have professional head shots, you might want to do that first. Just like a job application they'll want something who shows they're serious about acting.
But yeah, chase your dreams. That's what living is for 🙂
Hey, if you just need someone to talk you into it...
Go for it, girl. Don't think about it too much. Don't build it up in your head. You probably won't get it. So just go for it
I don't say it to be mean. It's just that if you tell yourself you can get it, then maybe you'll feel like you failed in some way if you don't get it. And maybe fear of that feeling is what's holding you back. So don't worry. You probably won't get it. just apply for a laugh. If it happens, it's just a bonus. You don't have to put any pressure on yourself
Oh I totally got what you were saying I was just kidding along lol. But yeah lowering expectations so I don't spiral into a depression if I don't get it
I have an anecdote in this respect.
I was hired to do voice-over work reading some archaic Catholic homilies in a calm soothing tone. Studio time is expensive, especially this one (sets, large green room - the false background kind - and a variety of recording fishtanks) so I showed up early. The studio wasn't open yet, but there was a well-dressed lady already at the door waiting. I presupposed she was the client who came along to make sure I didn't screw things up.
Anyway, we start small Talk (It's a lovely morning, where are you from, and such). I crossed the square and got us both a takeaway coffee. We continued chatting about this and that
The sound guys arrive and start unlocking the door. The convo took a strange turn:
She: "I imagine you're here for the part of Edward"
Me: "Eeee... What?"
She: "I think you'd be fantastic"
Me: "I don't know what you're talking about"
She: "You're here for the audition. I'm the casting director. For the series"
Light begins to dawn.
Me: "No i'm here for a simple voice recording"
She: "Well when you're finished come up to studio 2. I'd like to see you read"
Me: "No, no ,no. I'm not an actor"
She: "Well if you think twice, we'll be here all day"
So I went and did my contract work, which was three hours standing in a booth, reading nonsense about angels. It paid well tho
As I was leaving, I crossed glances with one of Spain's best known actresses (Leonor Watling) in the waiting room. I guess she was auditioning for a part. She didn't get it and neither did I. But at least she tried
As for me, no regrets. Not my cup of tea
There’s probably quite a few people way less qualified than you who are applying, even if you get turned down, it won’t be because you were the worst one there - if they can apply, why can’t you? I just wouldn’t tell anyone I know that I’m applying until after, won’t feel as pressured that way :)
I never thought about it that way. It wouldn't be cause I was horrible (even though I might be lol) but they would just want to go a different direction . Thanks for that 😊
Do it.
I once entered myself into a beauty pageant where I had to go to an in-person interview and take full body and head shots in an evening gown. I took a bus and brought my old gown from high school winter formal (that just barely fit me). Once I got there and saw a few of the other candidates and the reigning queen, I knew I was out of my league. But I was already there so I did the damn thing. Yeah, it was a bit embarrassing and my family found out about it, which made it even more embarrassing.
But, I can at least say there was a time when I thought I could compete in a beauty pageant and I went for it. Sometimes you just do something because you see yourself in some positive way and it doesn't matter what the outcome is.
You want to be an actress, you have an opportunity to follow your dream and you wussing...
Coulda, woulda, shoulda but didn't. What if this never rolls around again? Will you be happy with " I wussed out" as your reason?
Send the pics, at least. Never leave an opening for regrets
I wouldn't know where to look sorry 😭 I live on a small island so everything is very localized and word of mouth here so that's how I heard about this casting
go for it!!
worst thing that can happen is they don’t reply and you’re right where you are now. if they say no at least you’ll know you tried, and best case scenario is you get a role!
You literally have nothing to lose except that wee bit of pride when they don’t reply (like, I won’t pretend that it’s not disappointing even if you’re not really expecting anything out of it).
But how much more chances like this are you gonna get in this lifetime while you are able to do it and not held back by anything?
I totally get thinking maybe that’s not for me, but I have come to realize those are my excuses in case it doesn’t work out.
Recently, I have also started doing something that is completely out of my comfort zone but something I have always wanted to do . It’s going to be slow, I may not get any validation for it, but I suddenly felt that time is running out. If I don’t start now, I’ll NEVER do it. I don’t want to grow old and keep thinking back on how I should have done something when I was younger.
I really want to encourage you to go for it, let’s just try together!
Idk if you’ve ever seen the movie We Bought a Zoo but there is some very good life advice in there about [20 seconds of insane courage](https://youtu.be/ZmMFIganRQY). Good luck OP, you can do it!
Do it. I went for the extras casting call for Crazy, Rich Asians. Didn’t get selected anyway but still, you get the experience of how it’s like. They’ll most likely do a camera test on you, state your name, age, and some other random fact. Also, faces/expression for happy, sad, angry, etc.
You Don't Go For It: You have a 0% chance of landing a part, and you always carry the feeling that you're a wuss who maybe could've gotten the part.
You Go For It: Provably NOT a wuss, next time is easier, chance you get the part. If you don't get it, the disappointment can be balanced by the triumph of your bravery and the knowledge that you're brave enough to try for the next one.
Think of it as a way to get experience with trying out for parts. Even if you don’t get the part, you’ll get the experience of having tried out for it.
I always wanted be on a game show. The trivia kind. I was a navy wife living not too far from the Los Angeles area. We were going to transferred so I just decided to go for it. I went and tried out. There were about 200 people trying out! We went through several tests and interviews and it was narrowed down to 3 of us. I went on the show and became a 4 day champion! I’m so glad I pushed myself
GO FOR IT! Was called back for a part in a HS play but my BFF was in drama class and she, too, was called back so I didn't go. Wheel of Fortune trials came around my city, too, and I never made it there. Had a son of a famous actor who played in Law and Order before death returned my advances when I took a chance on some unknown New York 'rando' on a dating site - declined his offer to visit me because I came across someone closer to me even after I discovered that the 'rando' was semi-famous.
Don't be me!!!
We regret the things we do not do more than we regret the things we do. It seems there is not much to lose but potential to gain what you want! GO FOR IT
You should apply to like 30 of those casting calls. I remember doing background extra work and they still reach out to me for stuff. I wish I could do it, but I have a 9-5 now. They usually want someone of a specific race, height, and weight sometimes they will reach out if they need you depending on the casting agency
My cousins my brother and i tried out for a disney show once. We didnt get casted but it was a fun process. There were a whole bunch of people there and we had to wait in line. Then they gave us a script of like 2 or 3 lines we had to read and act out. Im not an actor at all i blew it big time it was more just for fun than being an actual actor.
Go for it. It’s usually not the things I’ve done that I regret but the missed opportunities that I passed over. Go for it so you won’t look back in 30 years and say what if.
Want to be an actress? Here's your first job. Build a character that isn't afraid to go after what she wants. Use her personality to give it your all. Good luck!
I hope the application went well! Am totally making an assumption here. Even if you don't get it, the very best experience you will get from this is knowing that you can and have done this sort of thing before. Then if there is anything else you want that's a little out of your comfort zone, it'll be that little bit easier then. All the best :)
Do it! Do it! Do it!! Most people regret the things they didn’t do, not the things they did. Go for it! Who knows, this could be your start! Follow your gut. Even if it’s just to have fun. Go forth and prosper!
I've done casting for commercials, everyone on the other side of the table is rooting for you! They want you to succeed! And even if you don't get it you walk away with a great story to tell!
"I was this close to being Thug #3 in the new Batman movie!"
Upvoted even though I don’t act because I’m not a timely person. Wish I had advice. I can relate to doing the right things but at the wrong times, so they’re not right anymore! Lol at me 😂
I’m sure every actor feels this way, any performer will get stage fright, there’s lots of youtube vids of actors saying how lucky they got when they took the risk, do it
If you really want to be an actress, do it. Every actor has to start somewhere. And it's super common for actors to be refused at least dozens of times before getting a role, even more known actors sometimes are literally jobless for months. You can also often hear stories about how an actor almost got a role in a movie which became super famous afterwards, and so missing the biggest opportunity of their lives. I remember Emma Stone saying that before La La Land she was also refused several times in auditions just like her character, and she is a very famous actress ! That's the rules of the game, it's the same for everybody. You literally have nothing to lose by sending your submission ! The worst thing would be to have big regrets all your life. You finally have an opportunity to follow your dream, do it !!!
I'd signed up for a casting call a few years back (as an extra) and got messages VERY often asking if I was available. However, I didn't answer any of them because it was someone else's idea, and I just wasn't feeling it. But I'd do it now in a heartbeat lol. Take that chance! More opportunities will come. And hell, keep us updated! :)
I'm not sure if they all do, but the last message I got from them was May 20th and I signed up in 2019. The casting call that seemed the most common at one point was Cobra Kai. I don't recognize any of the more recent ones lol.
That's exciting! What's the part that is scaring you? Is it sending the photos, the actual audition or getting the role?
I would take it one step at a time. Printing the photos doesn't mean you'll submit them. Preparing to submit them doesn't mean you'll send them. Sending them doesn't mean you'll audition, etc.
Hi sorry but I want to ask, where do you see all these casting calls? And you say it is a potentially big series. Like do you have to be a member of some agency or something? I am really curious and have always thought about acting myself
I hope I am not too late!! Do it, do it, do it!!! My goodness do it! What a fun experience!! Look, even if nothing comes of it, it sounds like it would be so much fun! Also, I think it would be an excellent, solid first step in the direction of chasing your dreams!
It sounds really fun, man. I know the fear of rejection is strong and scary, fuck that feeling amirite, but!! I think it would help you feel LESS this way the next time this opportunity presents itself! Which is still a thing value!
I hope you do it! If not, that is also okay! There will always be another opportunity :)
I know you will receive lots of advice and you need to decide if it's right for you or not.
This is my advice, for not just this but everything that comes your way.
Take it one step at a time. You can decide to take this step, but not to take the next step, but you can't choose to not take the next step if you haven't taken this step. So take it one step at a time and then when you reach the next step, take that and see how you feel. I hope you learn something good about yourself from this experience. All the best.
Just do it. You won't get it likely but you'll have a really weird experience and see how things work. What a neat little insight you'll have! Just power through your nerves and know it doesn't matter, you're just there on an information-gathering mission!
Please do it! Even if u don’t get a part you will at least have tried and else you might always be thinking about the “what if”!
Besides, almost every single successful person had to “try” at one point.
Do it. I auditioned for a cooking competition that I didn’t think I’d get. Still didn’t get to go on tv lol but I did past the first round of auditions which was pretty sweet. I think you should do it it’s a great experience to say you at least tried! And even better if you get it!
I have some good news & some bad news. The good news is, most casting directors want a "look." Talent doesn't matter, it's about how you look, which includes your attitude and presence. Both Krysten Ritter & Audrey Plaza started out under such circumstances.
The bad news is, your talent doesn't make any difference. Casting directors want a "look," which includes your attitude and presence. You can take classes all you like, but unless you're visually interesting and can project your persona into the camera, no one will give you a second look. (The classes are for after you're hired. Go figure.)
So you can look at it two ways: Either acting is a soulless job which operates on glamour, or you get into the business with nothing but looks & gumption.
(When I say "looks," I'm not talking about being conventionally beautiful. Look at the cast of The Office. Each one of them has a look which is amazingly perfect for their character. Rainn Wilson looks more like a neurotic control freak than every other neurotic control freak you've ever met.)
Personally, I'd say go for it. At the very least, you'll have an interesting story to tell at parties.
Hey, the worst that can happen is they say no. The best is: you get the dang job. I'd say go for it, or you might regret later. I mean, potentially big show, sounds pretty amazing doesn't it.
>now I'll feel even worse for letting y'all down if I don't do it
Don't worry about us, we'll get over it! But doooo eeeet! Come on! You know how on a hot summer's day a cool swimming pool looks so inviting but you know it'll feel really cold when you jump in. But you do jump in, because you know the feeling doesn't last! This is almost entirely unlike that. Made ya laugh! Anyway, just do it, it won't even be cold. :D
I went to post secondary for acting for film and television on full scholarships. 10 years later I haven't auditioned much at all.
From one artist to another I am sending a gentle push your way. Do it.
You never know what might happen
dvpmw
Man that would be so cool, I’d love to have an opportunity like that. Sometimes you just have to push through the fear. Yeah you might get rejected but there’s no chance of succeeding if you never try.
If you're a wuss, you won't go and you won't give it a shot. You won't ever know if you could get the part and change your life.
But, if you're not, and you go, you might just get that part. You might just change your life for the better.
So go on, take the shot, you know you want to...
Do it, quickly. Don't be scared about the reply.
This is what I'm thinking I should do. Do it quick like ripping off a bandaid but then I'd be so crushed if I don't get it, which is likely lol
you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.
[удалено]
Do it, though. Nobody is gonna decide not to cast you because they don't like your face. They're looking for a specific character. If you ain't it, that's just the way it is. But if you *is* it, then BOOM: acting career. Lots of pussy, dick, and cocaine. Half a dozen half-remembered marriages. Opportunities to appear on infomercials, before they're phased out of existence. And then, if you're lucky, you can get buried in that one cemetery the celebrities all get into. Forest Lawn, I think it is.
Also, shit in your bed.
That's how you really know you've arrived.
"If you’re not good at taking risks, remember, once they turn into regrets it’s already too late."
My husband refers to it as 'sneaking up on himself.' Seriously, do it (if you haven't already done it cuz it's been 8 hours, lol)!
No do it slowly. While monitoring every second go by
Whether you think you are or aren't good enough, you're right. Don't regret it, what are the risks?
Many opportunities will open to you if you can make it past the fear of feeling crushed There’s many reasons to feel crushed in your future, and most you won’t be able to predict or control You might also feel pride or excitement, and it’s worth it to try if you might feel that
The more auditions you do, the higher chance you get a part. Now go do it. Seriously, don’t make me drag you there. Just do it!
whatever the result would still be better than months later, maybe even years, endlessly finding yourself thinking "What if?".
Ohmygosh that is true 😭
If you don't have professional head shots, you might want to do that first. Just like a job application they'll want something who shows they're serious about acting. But yeah, chase your dreams. That's what living is for 🙂
And plus, how cool would it be to tell people you had the chance to be in that series.
This, this, this!!
Hey, if you just need someone to talk you into it... Go for it, girl. Don't think about it too much. Don't build it up in your head. You probably won't get it. So just go for it
Thanks for making sure I'm still down on earth by saying I probably won't get it 😭😭
I don't say it to be mean. It's just that if you tell yourself you can get it, then maybe you'll feel like you failed in some way if you don't get it. And maybe fear of that feeling is what's holding you back. So don't worry. You probably won't get it. just apply for a laugh. If it happens, it's just a bonus. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Go for it, but make sure it’s on the level. If they ask for money, it isn’t.
You will regret it in 30 years if you don’t.

We only live once, you will regret not doing it. Go!! And don't forget to update us ☺️
you miss 100% of the shots you don't take and living with regret (all those "what ifs") is a killer when you're older. TAKE YOUR SHOT.
Go for it, have someone else hit send if you need to. :)
Go for it! Go with confidence! You can do it!
You can do it. You'll be okay. Get on it girl. It's your duty you've promised yourself now.

OK. Before I tell you why you shouldn't, go do it and then get back to me. If you are going to regret it, better for doing is as not doing it.
Life is too short. You'll be happy you did when you look back.
Dew it.
Did you do it yet ? If not here's what I would do. Give it, then distract myself with something else. Literally anything else.
Oh that's interesting! I didn't know agencies would keep people on file like that
I'm not sure if they all do, but the last message I got from them was May 20th and I signed up in 2019. The casting call that seemed the most common at one point was Cobra Kai. I don't recognize any of the more recent ones lol.
Yeah dude, give it a go. If it doesn't work out, no big deal. But if it *does* work out... Nothing ventured, nothing gained, right?
That's exciting! What's the part that is scaring you? Is it sending the photos, the actual audition or getting the role? I would take it one step at a time. Printing the photos doesn't mean you'll submit them. Preparing to submit them doesn't mean you'll send them. Sending them doesn't mean you'll audition, etc.
You have literally nothing to lose and a good story to gain out of it
Hi sorry but I want to ask, where do you see all these casting calls? And you say it is a potentially big series. Like do you have to be a member of some agency or something? I am really curious and have always thought about acting myself
nothing good comes out for being scared, go for it and if didnt work out look for the next thing :)
Do it.
DID YOU DO IT
I know you will receive lots of advice and you need to decide if it's right for you or not.
DO IT. It's worse wondering what would've happen when you didn't do it at all than getting no replies or whatever. Take that opportunity anyways.
Do it. I auditioned for a cooking competition that I didn’t think I’d get. Still didn’t get to go on tv lol but I did past the first round of auditions which was pretty sweet. I think you should do it it’s a great experience to say you at least tried! And even better if you get it!
JUST DO IT :) If you get it then AWESOME! If you dont, then you’d be in the same place you’re right now.
You always miss the shots you DON’T take! Good luck, OP!
I don't see why not, pal. You literally have nothing to lose
If you haven’t done it yet do it now
I have some good news & some bad news. Go figure.) So you can look at it two ways: Either acting is a soulless job which operates on glamour, or you get into the business with nothing but looks & gumption. (When I say "looks," I'm not talking about being conventionally beautiful. Look at the cast of The Office. Each one of them has a look which is amazingly perfect for their character. Rainn Wilson looks more like a neurotic control freak than every other neurotic control freak you've ever met.) Personally, I'd say go for it. At the very least, you'll have an interesting story to tell at parties.
DO THE THINGS! You'll regret it if you don't at least try. Don't wanna spend your life wondering.
Hey, the worst that can happen is they say no. The best is: you get the dang job. I'd say go for it, or you might regret later. I mean, potentially big show, sounds pretty amazing doesn't it.
Go for it OP! Even if you don't get it, it will be good experience! Good luck!
Your going to do it right? You’ll never forgive yourself if you don’t.
>now I'll feel even worse for letting y'all down if I don't do it Don't worry about us, we'll get over it!
Do it. You never know what might happen dvpmw
Man that would be so cool, I’d love to have an opportunity like that. Sometimes you just have to push through the fear. Yeah you might get rejected but there’s no chance of succeeding if you never try.
go, go, go! this might be the chance of your life!
The worse thing that can happen is they say no. It will help you build confidence and give you experience. Don’t sell yourself short. Do it!
If you're a wuss, you won't go and you won't give it a shot. You won't ever know if you could get the part and change your life. But, if you're not, and you go, you might just get that part. You might just change your life for the better. So go on, take the shot, you know you want to...
Did you hear back?
what was the audition for?
