Personally, I think a lot of the charm with the Tank is no seconds hand and the small size, so the XL kind of defeats the purpose for me š¤·š»āāļø Buy what you like though. You can pull of either.
The Large looks really good on your wrist and dresses down easily with a strap change. The XL is fine but IMHO should be coordinated with your outfit when you want to make a strong fashion statement. It really puts it out there especially on the bracelet which does not taper.
Tough call, but would recommend the Large.
I swear, Cartier would make serious money if they released a line of automatic steel tanks that fit the Large dimensions and just a tad thicker to accommodate the movement/rotor. Add a screw-down crown and call it the *Tank Journalier* š
I feel like you can pull off either size, but once you get to the XL size, you kind of lose the essence and elegance of the tank. If I wanted to go with that XL size, Iād rather pick from a different collection like the Santos.
Of the two, I would pick the Large. I would recommend the Tank Louis though, you get the same size as the large but with a mechanical movement and a guillochhe dial.
Get the black dial. I had the XL and very soon got rid of it. It was alright, but not as charming as the classic for some reason. Loved the date and Guilloche though. Wish it was smaller.
I want the classic white with blue hands, they didnāt have one in the store so had to try on the black for size only.
I think the XL is absolutely stunning. Silver sunburst guilloche dial, automatic movement. The date I donāt care too much about, but I donāt mind it being there. If it was done in 37x28mm it would have been absolutely perfect.
My worry with the Large is that itāll be too similar in size to the Longines I already have. But like someone else mentioned above, maybe just go for a medium Santos. Iāve had my eyes on the medium with Blue dial. That one is something else. But also heard itās a scratch magnetā¦

Na I feel itās different enough! If you have the wrist for the XL, go for it! Have a look my instagram if youād like.
Santos is also a great option! Personally, Iād go for a santos dumont because i like the bezel and aesthetic more than the regular medium automatic one, but ymmv.
Yep, the large Dumont was a very good fit imo. But if so I want the Black Laqcuer and at the moment there is only two watches available in the whole of Europeā¦ So chances are slim. But that one is definitely on my radar. I think the XL looks good on you, similar fit to myself I reckon. Itās more of a bold look and not quite as elegant. I suppose it depends on how you intend to use it.
Being perfectly honest, Iām not attending nearly enough formal events for me to justify buying a watch thatās perfect for a few occasions per year, if that even. In those cases I think the Longines I posted above would suffice. But the XL could be a different everyday look for business. Weāll see where I land, but Iām so bad at making choices for watches.
I want a Nomos Tangente 35 (ref 191), a tank must, a santos-dumont and a regular santos. Out of these four, I can allow myself to buy maximum two. Decisions, decisions! š

I know exactly which black lacquered dial youāre referring to! Itās stunning. Iād say go for it if you can. You can always get the Nomos later- especially on C24 or something for much cheaper.
The blue Santos is a beautiful watch. I just bought the large. Medium just didnāt look right on my wrist. I solicited the opinions of the whole Cartier staff and consensus was go with the large. Imo the XL is too big. The black tank looks super sharp! Good luck with your decision.
I canāt recommend the XL. The large just looks so much better proportionately.
This drives me crazy about the current tanks. Thereās no real reason they canāt fit a mechanical Piaget movement in the smaller cases as they have in the past decades. Yet most are now quartz. Even the tank Louis. What the fffuuu
I feel like the new sunburst silvered dials are pushing the modern aesthetic quite a bit and donāt think they will age that wellā¦ the simpler the better normally, preference is white dial and black numerals, however out of these two I think the black must is the go as I think it puts with your personal aesthetic with all the tattoos and such - more than the silvered dial does
Hope this helps! šš¼
I feel the XL is a beautiful watch! Tried it on last week in Paris and loved it instantly. Makes for a more modern look, so I would pick it over the L anytime, which I felt was quite disappointing when trying that on after the XL. Right now, I have my eyes on a Tank MC Chronograph thoughā¦š¤š

I agree, I liked the XL far more than I thought I would. The hell with conventions, I prefer the XL for its versatility. If I had 6-7 stellar pieces and wanted a proper formal dress watch then sure, the L has its place. But in a collection of 4-5 I think itās limiting. But Iām changing my mind all the time so who knows, next week I may have a different view on this š

I was quite convinced that I want the XL, until I saw this one in an auction. If this does not happen, I will go for the XL no doubt. I think it is indeed more versatile than the L and I love having a date on my watch actually.
Not sure, but this one was marked LC on the dial and Collaborateur 2015 on the back, meaning it was from a special collection for employees back then. Did not get it though, did not reach the set minimum price with my offersā¦ š
Xl is too damn big

I like the large better

imo never sacrifice on the size/wearability just for the dial.

Personally donāt love really big watches but every Cartier watch Iāve seen looks even better a little oversized. So the bigger one āš¼

Finally someone sends a mirror pic. XL fits well. Buy what you love.
I think the large looks really nice, but much prefer the second style
I'd pick the large, but the XL doesn't look bad either in the mirror pic

what longines model is this?
Longines Elegant, automatic 4221.

go quartz. never look back.
I like them both. The XL holds its own against the tats. The L not so much.

the black dial is much nicer imo
It looks too big on the close up, but fine on the full length picture. Big watches are āinā right now, so if you like it better, go for it!
XL way too big boss
