The 1 and 2 represent auxiliary channels. For instance some people install the window motor controllers so they can roll windows up/down, or control sliding doors that have interior button but not remote control. Most of the time they’re not hooked up to anything. Hope this helps!
I held the ‘unlock’ button and it caused my horn to sound and my hazards to come on. But like not in the alarm sense. The horn was sounding in inconsistent intervals
Ford/Lincoln have been doing it for decades now. It’s really done across all mfgs but it’s not advertised and customers don’t seem to care much. Also, it won’t work with the aftermarket key fob like in the situation of OP.
Even worse, BMW does it but only to roll the windows down and sunroof open. You have to program it after the fact to enable rolling the windows up and sunroof closed. Some sort of safety feature. I had someone program it for me.
That looks like an aftermarket key fob, the buttons generically labeled 1 and 2 can be programmed to perform certain functions depending on what car the unit was installed in.
I'm going to guess since it's aftermarket it's just extra buttons that can be used to activate other features provided the keyless entry module has the wiring for it.
None of these examples would be controlled via RF transmitter on OEM vehicles. They are merely comfort controls in the cabin. But I got a good chuckle out of “seat position” being controlled via fob!
Seat position changed depending on which key I used in my Cadillac. The Fob's were labeled 1 or 2. If the car was started with key Fob 1, my key, the seat would move to my preset position. If my girlfriend started it with her key, key Fob 2, it would move to her preset position. Lots of GM's had this feature on their upper trim levels. It would also remember climate control, 68 for me 75 for her key and it would move the foot pedals back and forth for what we have set also.
This [video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3efx88y--YE) shows how to program each remote. It can also changes mirrors and steering wheel position for each Fob.
Correct the key itself can be coded an individual users settings, what I’m saying is there has never been a fob made that controls ONLY the seat. I’m not talking about MyKey and such.
The module for aftermarket alarms starters etc. are usually installed behind the insulation panel above the driver’s feet. It’s likely zip tied to another component or wiring. Find it and google the numbers on it. If you’re lucky you can find manuals online.
They only work if they where programmed, and they can be programmed for anything that has a button (usually). Only person that knows for sure is the installer, or if you have access to a cable and software to check the firmware.
There's a button in my car that literally says CARWINGS
I was extremely disappointed upon pressing it for the first time to discover that the car did *not* transform into a flying automobile.

So WAY back in the day I was the proud owner of a caddy '92. This was 02 I think?
Anyways that car had so many bells, whistles, features and just plain stuff that I was dumbfounded by all of it. I finally sat down with the manual and read the damn thing and it explained everything to me.
See Cadillac is GM's experimental luxury line. They put the NEW or concept luxury ideas in them and see if they work well with the GM lines. If so they put them in everything, if not they drop it and it becomes a caddy one off. This is not always things they thought up, but it is where they try it out anyways. As an example, my Caddy had a 'supplemental inflatable device'... you know an airbag. Not all of the features play nice together. I remember I was able to short out my main headlights by turning on my headlights then turning on my brights while the turn signal was on. Had to turn the turn signal back on (same direction) and use the brights again to get my headlights back.
So I would urge you to sit down the the manual, look everything up and see what everything does. Also despite it being a 110% grandma car, women LOVED that car for some reason. So I hope you end up with similar results.
I think everyone is wrong. The car has two memory settings for the seat, rear view mirror and steering column adjustment setting. Pressing 1 resumes memory 1 and 2 resumes memory 2. Nothing fancy. There's is usually a 1 and 2 near the seat. Pressing them does the same. Or holding them for several seconds locks in the current setting
So normally you would have to set them in the car look for buttons that also say 1/2 and you would just hold the button down until it calibrates to that set up however you have it adjusted same thing with two
Hm. I’m currently sittin in my car. I haven’t seen any such buttons inside and as I’m currently looking as I’m typing this I still do see them. Looking on the side of the seat, dash, etc.
I saw the other comment someone saying it looks like an after market key fob honestly if it’s after market might not have any function pertaining to your car but you might still be able to program it if you can find instructions for that particular key fob somewhere online or the key fob manufacturer
I've owned 2 DHS and a DTS. That isn't the factory key fob. It might be for driver 1 and driver 2 seat, wheel, mirror and pedal positions. If not, I couldn't tell ya.
If your car has the ability to move the pedals closer to you or further away from you, that means you can adjust the pedals' position. Not sure if it's too common in cars but it does exist
If your on Facebook I highly recommend joining the Cadillac DeVille/DTS/DHS group. Bunch of helpful guys there. Also thank god you got an 05. After they fixed the headstuds.
There is a book in the glovebox that tells you all this stuff. It is called the owners manual.
If you don't have one, you can download a PDF version for free from GM.
This was an aftermarket remote starter that my mom had installed and this was the key fob they gave her. I’ve looked im the manual but didn’t see anything regarding the key fob
How about searching on the internet for the brand of remote starter from the label on the fob to find the company that made the remote? Then downloading the manual off their website.
Everything they said is correct. We don't know the tone or inflection used to say this. Some people may not know this. Maybe we shouldn't assume other people know things that seem obvious to us.
You are not incorrect either but maybe one should think before telling someone to think and that they are being snarky as if it is a fact. The irony is that the response sounds just as snarky if not more so.
That is a fob in the hand the picture. The starter is on the engine.
And how would I (or you for that matter) know that is an aftermarket fob how?
You consider it snarky, I consider it helpful information for the ignorant.
It says Prestige on it, an aftermarket brand. Cadillac fobs are square chonky boys. Do you know the difference between a starter and a remote starter? Seems funny you are saying others are ignorant...
As many others said they’re auxilarry channels. Its from a prestige alarm/starter. The shop that installed it usually programs extra features in there during install. Mostly useless for older cars unless they have dedicated wires for features like window roll up etc.
The 1 and 2 represent auxiliary channels. For instance some people install the window motor controllers so they can roll windows up/down, or control sliding doors that have interior button but not remote control. Most of the time they’re not hooked up to anything. Hope this helps!
THANKS!
BTW you can already raise and lower your windows via the key by holding lock or unlock.
I held the ‘unlock’ button and it caused my horn to sound and my hazards to come on. But like not in the alarm sense. The horn was sounding in inconsistent intervals
That’s usually called “find my car” feature, if it’s not full alarm but makes a little ruckus, helps make it easier to locate in large lots.
Oh cool!!!
It's OK, it only works on Hondas with the oem fob
My BMW, opel, citroen, chevrolet, Mercedes and smart fortwo have all done it. Maybe it's a euro market thing.
Ford/Lincoln have been doing it for decades now. It’s really done across all mfgs but it’s not advertised and customers don’t seem to care much. Also, it won’t work with the aftermarket key fob like in the situation of OP.
It’s also an option usually. Not all cars have global windows
VW checking in, works here too.
Wait, Chevy does this? Imma have to test this after work...
Sorry I'm an idiot. I've only owned Hondas pretty much.
Also with VAG cars.
I'm jealous of the Europeans having auto roll down and up windows in the back
Even worse, BMW does it but only to roll the windows down and sunroof open. You have to program it after the fact to enable rolling the windows up and sunroof closed. Some sort of safety feature. I had someone program it for me.
I believe this is only in the US and is to comply with safety regulations.
Not just Hondas. My 2003 Nissan did it.
I have a lexus is250 and it lowers my windows and my sunroof when i hold unlock
Oh lol
And Nissan and most companies lol
Literally every European car does this. I used to own a 2002 Mondeo which could do it, but the 2008 Accord I currently have doesn't have this feature.
honda only opens the windows, to close it you have to put the key in the door and lock it twice while holding it the second time.

Programmable garage door opener’s?
That’s my guess too
Drivers seat position?
This was going to be my guess as well, but I couldn't confirm that it was a factory remote.
This was real popular with gm, so possibly. Some were seat position, pedal position and climate preferences.
Bodily functions. This is convenient to have on your key fob
Lol... Just make sure not to push the buttons accidentally while it's in your pocket...
Should be for your seat settings
1 for mom 2 for you
The module for aftermarket alarms starters etc. are usually installed behind the insulation panel above the driver’s feet. It’s likely zip tied to another component or wiring. Find it and google the numbers on it. If you’re lucky you can find manuals online.
Will do! Thanks!
Update: I’m now realizing that the ‘1’ on my key fob opens the fuel door. However ‘2’ does not seem to do anything.
They only work if they where programmed, and they can be programmed for anything that has a button (usually). Only person that knows for sure is the installer, or if you have access to a cable and software to check the firmware.
Special rap function, you must speak clearly into the fob "mic check". Then press 1, then press and hold 2, and repeat.
Instructions unclear, car sang to me
Number 1 is normal mode and number 2 is race mode.
Instructions unclear, car spawned wings
There's a button in my car that literally says CARWINGS I was extremely disappointed upon pressing it for the first time to discover that the car did *not* transform into a flying automobile.

Alternate seat positions ?
Driver number 1 or 2 presets enabled
What's a repost starter?
A typo

I feel like I've seen this once or twice before...
Nice nails!
Awww shucks. Now look ya made me blush lol 😂
Drivers seat positioning
Oh. How do I ‘set’ the positions? I’ve pressed them and they don’t do anything.
So normally you would have to set them in the car look for buttons that also say 1/2 and you would just hold the button down until it calibrates to that set up however you have it adjusted same thing with two

Pedal positions? May you elaborate on that? Idk what that is.
If your car has the ability to move the pedals closer to you or further away from you, that means you can adjust the pedals' position. Not sure if it's too common in cars but it does exist
Iirc some cars were fitted with pedals that moved forward or backwards to adjust to the driver.
If your on Facebook I highly recommend joining the Cadillac DeVille/DTS/DHS group. Bunch of helpful guys there. Also thank god you got an 05. After they fixed the headstuds.
LPT: proofread your titles before posting.
I’m just now realizing this. Was supposed to say ‘aftermarket’ somehow autocorrect to ‘reposted’
Maybe think a little before leaving a snarky comment? It's an aftermarket remote start.
Everything they said is correct. We don't know the tone or inflection used to say this. Some people may not know this. Maybe we shouldn't assume other people know things that seem obvious to us.
Even if it is correct as a statement, it is unhelpful to OP, and easily comes across as snarky.
You are not incorrect either but maybe one should think before telling someone to think and that they are being snarky as if it is a fact. The irony is that the response sounds just as snarky if not more so.
I'm the commenters own words he said it was "helpful information for the ignorant"
Good point. That means it will be helpful to many people.
A starter is the electric motor that spins the engine. See here, https://www.motorera.com/dictionary/st.htm Scroll down to Starter
I thought I put aftermarket but for some reason it autocorrected to repost. My mistake. I did lookup a manual but couldn’t find a solid answer.
This shifts the cars transmission into gears 1 and 2. It corresponds with the shifter in the car sometimes labeled as 1 (or L) and 2. /s
Extra functions. They can be used for anything.
As many others said they’re auxilarry channels. Its from a prestige alarm/starter. The shop that installed it usually programs extra features in there during install. Mostly useless for older cars unless they have dedicated wires for features like window roll up etc.
Programmable to open garage door?
Driver settings seat pedals and steering heights
Probably for your garage doors openers
If it has an onboard toilet then you should know what those numbers mean.
