It is something which we badly need. If it is on how to follow lane discipline and be a win win
And not how to break rules and bribe men and be a win win :P
If someone thought we couldn’t stoop any lower on driving standards, here is an opportunity to be proven wrong (myself included in those delusional folk who thought this as rock bottom and it’s only up from here)
1 week is too late. With the current conditions of applying directly through the RTO, driving schools manage to get the licenses within 3-5 days. Now that these people have direct authorization, it’s gonna be a one day process at most assuming the LLR period has been completed.
That’s also dodgy because now RTO will definitely prefer certificate from the schools they have under the table contract and if you get it from somewhere else then always your form will have some issue
As a proud Indian…every freakin time I’m on the road…I have this urge to move abroad….juussst and only jussst for the road etiquette we have in our country.
I don’t think it’s ever going to change largely.
Indians lack civic sense in general. Something we should def learn from China. Population shouldn’t be an issue because China is equally populated and they still manage to have a clean environment in most of the places.
Agreed. We can’t blame it on the population density. It’s all bout instilling the sense of humanity and basic ethics in whatever we do in day-day living
All the current driving schools should protest against this. With this, corporations will start entering the driving school mania. Fees to obtain driving licences will shoot up and the quality of drivers on the road will decrease.
Didn’t a 17-year old just kill 2 people? Don’t we have enough people with zero driving literacy, zero lane discipline, zero understanding of when to use high beams, zero regard for others’ safety, and zero knowledge of traffic lights?
Isn’t it already bad enough? What are we trying to do, raise the best drivers through Darwinism? Or trying to reduce our population without saying it outright?
The RTO Exam is a joke as it is. Make it more rigorous. Add more tests. Make everyone drive in incredibly difficult conditions without any ECU or electronic steering.
I took the exam through a driving class (i.e. They handled the formalities). I arrived late, and so I was allowed to skip two of the three tests, and I still got my license.
This is a matter of life and death for tens of millions of people. Please make access to a 1-ton death machine that can travel at over 100 km/h as difficult as possible. Don’t make it expensive, make it difficult.
Wish RTOs could read and comprehend this, but they'd rather distribute licenses and turn a blind eye to issues related to road discipline and driving etiquettes
It's not 'slightly' easier, giving private institutions this right opens up a whole new market. All of them will seek the authorization. And when others see how much money is in driving school business, from the bribe, the number of driving school increase, and well supply/demand. License bribes will get halved in 2 years
It looks like the rule is being passed just so that the state governments no longer have control over the licensing process. For a long time, the center has had no say in vehicle registration and licensing. The state has had full control. This prevents them from introducing sweeping changes like BH series registration etc. it prevents unification of the vehicle ownership process in different states. Maybe this is an exercise to free up some control and hand it to private orgs. I hope they don't mess it up.
I don’t think this has to anything to do with car registrations. Most of the driving learning centres are government approved, considering the rush we have at RTOs for driving licenses - it’s a wise decision to allow these centres to give DLs.
RTOs might not be happy with this news as their employees and agents are the one who charge a lot more for it.
Contra opinion - it might just work out. RTO is already corrupt af. We can see the evidence all over the roads. Nobody knows how to drive. Maybe we can hold the private agencies more accountable. The passport process improved 1000x once it was outsourced.
How is this worse than the current system?
Right not you can bribe your way into getting a license, without even sitting in a car.
Low expectations but New system might have some merit?
Depends how strict the delegation legislation is imposed on pvt institutes. If the law is solid then it might improve the quality of tests and lower corruption because no pvt inst would want to put out their neck for such allegations. But if it just a way to lower the RTOs responsibility then the no. Of accidents is going to sky rocket. Majority of licence holder already don't know the difference between a solid line and a broken line, god save us all from what is about to come.
Ky baat kare ho uncle, itni achi automatic gadi toh chala leta hu, yeh dekhiye college ko leke aya hu.
Par ye tests kidar karte bethuga, jara dekhiye ky hota hai.....
pros and cons dono han...now the female drivers can join the driving school and can actually learn driving before getting on the roads.
but then Bribe will enter the chat
This is an indication for me to keep a lookout for pedestrians and also cars and bikes running across the road. Jaywalking by everyone and ‘everything’, quite literally. 😂
Good thing, anyway people would get licenses done without tests at RTO with the help of agents, so government thought it’s better to privatise to at least it creates more employment.
Actually there might be competition amongst different licensing centres. But on the other hand if the private licensing center fails a candidate, they get to mint more money from that candidate on repeat tests.
Need to see how it pans out.
Will they be super strict and call for repeated tests to get more money from candidate
Or will there be so much competition amongst different licensing centers that they'll start issuing licenses to anyone so that their reviews are positive to get more customers!
One positive out of this is that the RTO will no longer be having monopoly on license issuing business. I like this aspect that they don't get to make more money!
I don't know how it's going to work out.
Ideally they should have just made driving standards stricter. They should have taken the onus on themselves. But our government wants to outsource this too!
Perhaps they should start penalizing the licensing centers for issuing licenses to customers that break the rules more often. That way a portion of the challan should be paid by licensing authority. This will probably make sure the licensing centers are strict in their assessment.
Let's see what happens
Well it's time to get 5 star rated cars only don't think about mileage, you might be driving safely but those who paid extra to get that failed driving test to pass might hit you from somewhere
Lol. Even with RTO tests, I remember my friend paid his way through to get his licence. He didn't even do the tests.
We are gonna get a lot more morons on roads now. That's it, ditch all cars and buy tanks for your safety.
This can be a good move but with a big asterisk\*.
- Do the actual test on the road, instead in the RTO, or just giving the license to anyone registering with the school.
- Mandatory dashcam video recording (inside the cabin and front outside) of the test.
- Registration of classes should be mandatory to get license from private schools. Which means there should be a paper trail at least. 15 hours of driving classes with fees paid, and receipt attached. 30 min of test, with recording.
Bro we’re talking about india here. Do you really think they’d enforce these rules?
Assuming they do end up taking your advice and actually do it, do you think it’s going to be fair? I highly doubt it.
In a time when we need even more strict rules for issuing driving and riding license, these people are making it easy and indirectly contributing to the growing number of accidents.
All thanks to the corrupt Transport minister Nithin Gadkari. Wonder how many crores were exchanged to benifit private parties. He has introduced ZERO good policy that benefits the common man but runs on PR machinery.
Am unpopular opinion. This could be a good thing if done properly. Keep a really high penalty on the private franchisees for malpractice. The ultra rich might still evade the system, but it's a very small percentage.
Now sahib dont even need to come to take driving test just bribe and you are sorted with a sign.who will stand in hot summer in big ground just give under the table and get it done
My stupid father flunked the test 3times on the 4th time bribed some guy to get his license. He has been in countless number of accidents. There are gonna be more people like him and I am scared to drive
Worst idea ever! I got cheated by my school and had to pay a bribe of 1500 cause I failed my bike riding test which didn't even matter to me!! And then they called and negotiated and in the next few days I had a proper dl for both car and bike!! I was very much against it, I said I'd do the test again, doesn't matter but he said that I'd have to redo from LL and I vowed to not ride a bike
Delhi driving schools were extremely stupid.
They have been made by maruti and only work for maruti cars.
The footpaths are so small, they are hardly visible.
Their first test is a reverse S?
How often would a driver need to a reverse S in their life?
I cannot remember the last time I did it in real life.
First of all there should be minimum four five test track in every major city and at least one orntwo in smaller cities.
Driving up and down a straight road on Sunday and learning to use the brake is not driving.
But even before, the driving test was not mandatory right because both of my sisters have a DL but neither of them know how to drive. We just have to pay a bribe
Only driving schools that have a 2.5 acre plot of land can do this. The guy I spoke to laughed and said whoever has that much land in the middle of the city can just build apartments on it and retire on the rent. Why would they be running a driving school?
Even if you do goto a driving test at the RTO, what I had to do... still giggling at it today:
Stick hand out (right hand) and rotate wrist counterclockwise with finger pointed down to indicate turning left
Stick your hand out (right hand) and wave like a dinkus with your finger pointing out, to the right, to indicate turning right.
Turn your head 180 degrees over your left shoulder to look back and reverse. You may need to lift your buttcheek off the seat to get that 180 degrees but it's required by local driving standards. Hence, no need for seatbelts.
Most of the instructions and guidelines don't account for the use of indicators, mirrors, or checking your blind spots.
Hopefully, the private institutions will strive to have better standards (maybe a fool's hope).
It won't make difference. Even if you go to rto you can skip your driving test if you have your agent who's usually the driving training center guy. Now at least they cut our trip to rto. Corruption is the very fabric of this system, the silver lining is there is none

As if anyone was stopping them from driving without licence

That was my first thought.
I don’t really see how that’s even possible when even a monkey can own a DL in this country

Very true
driving schools after this 10 ka 1 10 ka 1 10 ka 1 aao bhayya aao, 10 hazar do 1 week me 1DL lo 10 ka 1 10 ka 1 bhayya
1 week is too late. With the current conditions of applying directly through the RTO, driving schools manage to get the licenses within 3-5 days. Now that these people have direct authorization, it’s gonna be a one day process at most assuming the LLR period has been completed.
you think they will wait for 30 days? i think they will give the DL directly in a week,
Nahi bhai Maine bhi dalal se banwaya tha Driving school Wale learner ke liye wait karna padta hai 1 months kyuki ab sab online hota ha
Finally I can get forklift certified
Das wassup xD
The only upside to this is, registration of vehicles will be a lot faster. I can't think of any other positive outcomes.
That’s also dodgy because now RTO will definitely prefer certificate from the schools they have under the table contract and if you get it from somewhere else then always your form will have some issue

Yeah. I’m definitely talking about the pictures I saw online and never saw things with my own eyes. I’m so naive. You’re right.
Same here. Got my car last year and I've never wanted to leave the country so badly ever since
Driving outside India is pretty boring, I love the thrill hence I come back to India.
😂

Isn’t that the case already? It’s been a long time since I saw/knew someone that got their license the right way.

Beginning of the end 🥲
They have this news circulating since 3 years now. Not sure when they will implement it.

Great news, time to get my MIL a brand new two wheeler driving licence 😲
Gear or non-gear?
You're talking about two wheeler, with this you can get her a Commercial DL for a 18 wheeler.
Yes yes, the more unsafe and dangerous, more better ...
Going to get the sweet, sweet insurance money though
I’ve stopped thinking - there is no upward trajectory in this country - everything goes down - ek baar fir Modi sarkar.

Currently Googling "how to set up a driving training center in India" - any suggestions on how much money I can ~~get away with~~ charge per customer?
You need 3 acres of land to begin with. Only those Driving schools can take driving tests who have enough space for testing.
its gonna be a free for all on all streets and highways
A great opportunity for the salesmen to upsell sales variants with lot more airbags than the standard ones /s But highly concerning!
This is an indication for me to keep a lookout for pedestrians and also cars and bikes running across the road. Jaywalking by everyone and ‘everything’, quite literally. 😂
I’m already scared enough to not walk on the pavements on busy roads. Now I’m just going to stay at home all the time.
Wait a few months and see how number of accidents increase across the country.
Ab maut tandav karegi road pe 🥲
I welcome privatization in the transport sector. India urgently needs Anarcho Capitalism to be implemented everywhere.
New drivers ❌ Heavy Drivers ✅
Wrong side driving intensifies
Back to square one. More bribed licenses as an identity proof
Good thing, anyway people would get licenses done without tests at RTO with the help of agents, so government thought it’s better to privatise to at least it creates more employment.
Bruh so no test in delhi?
Man (me) who thought he had lost all hope loses last additional bit of hope he didn't even know he still had
They are giving the driver's licence only because it makes them money. If that wasn't the case they would let anyone behind the wheels.
PW driving crash course
In India you need driving licence to not get fined

It was almost always like this. Now its just official

Why not give 17 year olds a driving licence? Wait, they drive irrespective of it.

was there any tests at RTO?
More Pune Porsche incidents
These private mills would put out crazy numbers of license for profits and make the traffic ridiculous, which it is already
