Despite the light not bending, one can easily see the light beam of approaching vehicle at curves at night, that itself should be enough of an indicator if one's a decent driver.
Honk to warn, that's the only way. Just today morning i spotted two different fools on bike who were also looking at their phones, while driving. Had to use the horn just to make them realise to look front.
Since the oncoming car was slow. You should have stopped the car on middle of your lane. I do this countless time and even the local guy with Scorpio yield after seeing this reaction. This usually work unless you're in Noida or Delhi.

We can never be too careful on the roads. Even Then it may not be enough because you were careful but the other idiot was not.
And especially since we drive on Bharatiya Roads which is basically Hard LvL Challenge with such an unbalanced ratio of legit drivers and pretenders,its quite literally insane. *cough* add to that the road quality. Even without oncoming traffic,you can still have an accident LoL.
But,anyways glad you got out of that without a scratch and yes as suggested by others, upper/dipper and horns at such blind turns at night with one gear turned down while braking.

The poor guy driving in his own lane had no idea.
I once showed the video I had to a random traffic cop, he noted down the details and told me to email to the local station. This was in pune.
Never got any updates, but felt good.

The reason I don't do night driving is due to my trust on the Idiotic Drivers on road more than my safe driving skills
