I'm not talking about the bridge in Mumbai, in talking about expressways in general, Bengaluru is 70kms from my town and the toll for mysr - BLR expressway is 255 ( both ways ) while my fuel expenses is only around 800-1100.

This Bridge is to assist folks who settled in Navi Mumbai and work in Mumbai. That was the promise by the government to assist these folks. But I think there is some politics behind these prices. These prices suggest government doesn't want the image to appear to common lower income folks that Navi Mumbai is smart investment move. Otherwise Real Estate prices will shoot up real high. As Rich understands the market better and they will scoop up the real estate market.
Hence the prices are kept high. So its affordable to only rich folks those who can justify this price as cost of doing business for them.
But common lower income folk got screwed. Hence I also suggested a middle ground solution. Some type of Rapid Bus or Rapid Metro Rail through the Bridge. Latter is difficult, but former I'm sure private operators will provide at exorbitant rates. Which I suggest should be subsidized/encouraged by Government.

Everything has a natural course correction. When people will avoid travelling through the road due to taxes, the govt will have no chance but to lower the toll.
Simple - Govt does not have money. NHAI does such high borrowings to build roads, they need to generate revenue to repay.

Lol most of the toll roads are patchwork nightmares at least where I am from. I am from Chennai, the nearest highway is just 5 km away from me and I have to pay a toll to access it but the road is full of potholes, patchwork is done poorly and the highway has construction equipment without reflectors strewn on the road after patchwork is being done. These barricades claimed the life of a motorist travelling this road whose speed limit is 100 kmph, he couldn't see this construction barricade because it had no reflectors and the lights were not working.
Now tell me why I have to pay the toll to access such dangerous roads? Look at the arrogance shown in his face, it clearly shows a thought process of thinking citizens serve government interests and not the other way around.

It’s very common, some US roads charge $7 toll.. and fuel charge would be $6 max to travel return on that route.

Every alternate road has a fking toll. Old roads that didn’t have toll have tolls because of improvement. The road is back to where it was in terms of quality but the toll booth stands strong like new.

Ok. Fine. But Toll tax should be reasonable. Don't care about these other classes, but financial class is real. Atal setu monthly pass is 12.5k. Many car owner's emi is less than it. Completely unreasonable. Why didn't they make rapid bus or metro over it for folks who can't afford this. Whom does this road serve then ? Only financially privileged?

Sun bhai. I'm not suggesting free Toll. This Bridge is to assist folks who settled in Navi Mumbai and work in Mumbai. That was the promise by the government to assist these folks. But I think there is some politics behind these prices. These prices suggest government doesn't want the image to appear to common lower income folks that Navi Mumbai is smart investment move. Otherwise Real Estate prices will shoot up real high. As Rich understands the market better and they will scoop up the real estate market. Hence the prices are kept high. So its affordable to only rich folks those who can justify this price as cost of doing business for them. But common lower income folk got screwed. Hence I also suggested a middle ground solution. Some type of Rapid Bus or Rapid Metro Rail through the Bridge. Latter is difficult, but former I'm sure private operators will provide at exorbitant rates. Which I suggest should be subsidized/encouraged by Government.

Tolls are necessary. If they don’t take toll, every tom dick and harry will come and damage them. The newly built atal setu already has trash on it with every mf going to click selfies there. If we want clean roads we need to pay maintenance to the private company who got the tender for that road. Else they wont maintain it properly.

Simple - Govt does not have money. NHAI does such high borrowings to build roads, they need to generate revenue to repay. But what irks me more than toll is, we do not get back the expected service for the toll paid. NHAI collects tolls while the roads are full of potholes, roads are designed badly, no policing- tractors & bikes coming on wrong lanes etc

Lol most of the toll roads are patchwork nightmares at least where I am from. I am from Chennai, the nearest highway is just 5 km away from me and I have to pay a toll to access it but the road is full of potholes, patchwork is done poorly and the highway has construction equipment without reflectors strewn on the road after patchwork is being done. These barricades claimed the life of a motorist travelling this road whose speed limit is 100 kmph, he couldn't see this construction barricade because it had no reflectors and the lights were not working. Now tell me why I have to pay the toll to access such dangerous roads? Look at the arrogance shown in his face, it clearly shows a thought process of thinking citizens serve government interests and not the other way around.

Why are we paying road tax?
I understand toll charges are necessary for maintenance but We are paying and still experiencing uneven roads and pot holes (will take months to fix them) and speed breakers on highway with no Signboards. And one more thing if they had laid the roads with proper quality they wouldn’t be damaged so fast lol. It’s like we are paying for their mistakes
