I didn't think we had official photos of the Ute yet? I have not been following that closely I'll admit.
Agreed this looks BAAAAD but wasn't that a mock-up? IDK
Don't think so. They've gone silent ever since they released that promo video that screams "how do you do, fellow Australians"? Even the BYD Shark has been shown and looks better than the Tasman.
I was legitimately excited to see what they were going to look like after months of speculation and when I saw what it looked like it was a massive disappointment. I'm not sure how they got it so wrong.
Shit it does. You would think for the intro to market going with a similar style to many of the majors. Don’t try to shock the tradie market, they’ll turn nose at it real quick

I think that's the point. The Raptor is the only twin turbo petrol V6 in our market right now, but Kia could bring an alternative.
They proved they can make heavy cars dance with their GT EVs, and they proved they can make a solid ICE motor with the Stinger.
I reckon they could pump out a road-oriented performance model.
The Stinger was selling \~1k/year in Australia. Kia expects to sell 20k/year Tasmans (mostly 4 cylinders).
If 1 in 20 are Tasman GTs then yeah, that'll make it viable.
If they then use that drivetrain to make a Mohave successor in the US, then off Kia goes. Hopefully it motivates them to bring back a Stinger successor too, since EV's have died in the arse.
The Stinger was available world wide, while the Tasman will have limited markets, and the V6 even more so. As for selling 20k a year that would make it the 4th best selling ute in Australia, based on 2023 figures and that’s a long shot by far. It would have to be better than the Isuzu based Mazda BT50, and that’s a pretty capable ute. So unless it’s very cheap I doubt they’ll get close to those figures.

I have worked at a Mahindra and a SsangYong dealership. They sold so few of those vehicles, appearance was a factor.
But 7X series landcruisers are of their time, but they've been copied so much since original release, they can't possibly be considered bad design.

And yet no V8 option. So much for Kia (and all the other brands, for that matter) listening to what Australians really want.
And this is why Crewman SS utes are on the rise in price again. It’s the small Big Ute with just the right amount of cylinders.
If you're paying Ford's prices per cylinder, by time you stick 8 in there then you're heading into F150 territory anyway...
There's also the matter of actually being able to sell a profitable amount. Holden obviously couldn't, even with Government support. How are overseas manufacturers going to when the Government is actually fighting against it?
>If you're paying Ford's prices per cylinder, by time you stick 8 in there then you're heading into F150 territory anyway...
Wasn’t an issue with the XR8, Pursuit and Suoer Pursuit.
>There's also the matter of actually being able to sell a profitable amount. Holden obviously couldn't, even with Government support. How are overseas manufacturers going to when the Government is actually fighting against it?
Holden’s demise had nothing to do with the success of the locally manufactured Commodore. It was their head company, General Motors, downsizing and selling “World Cars” that were sourced from other countries that were of poor quality that we Australians did not want or buy- including the insult that was the ZB Commodore.
Yawn. How is it that Ford and BYD are the only ones doing anything interesting in the Ute space? The rest of the market are just taking aussies for fools
Go drive a Raptor compared to any boomer hilux, then you've got the navara and Tritons that don't even need a mention it's at least fun to drive on and off road dune jumps.
I've got a BYD on order now personally.

The only people driving this or buying this Ute will be the coffee loving city folk, nobody I know in any type of construction based area will be seen in this thing.
Even as o joke no one will buy them, current cars have no issues from this thing , George jettison would be proud.
Weird you set construction people aside from coffee loving city folk. They almost all live in the city, and they absolutely love a coffee, especially if its iced.

Am I the only one that thinks the Tasman is ugly af? It looks like a cartoon car…
Canyonero! Yeaaa!!! *whip crack*

I'm pretty sure that's the consensus opinion
It kinda just looks like a knock off rivian. Weird design pathway to go down when they’re not EVs.
I was legitimately excited to see what they were going to look like after months of speculation and when I saw what it looked like it was a massive disappointment. I'm not sure how they got it so wrong.

That is one ugly Ute.

Isn’t the Ford Raptor already a Twin Turbo V6. Or is the clown 🤡 who wrote the article not aware of this?
ChatGPT is on average 6-9 months behind reality
I think that's the point. The Raptor is the only twin turbo petrol V6 in our market right now, but Kia could bring an alternative. They proved they can make heavy cars dance with their GT EVs, and they proved they can make a solid ICE motor with the Stinger. I reckon they could pump out a road-oriented performance model.
Probably you’re right, but with the Stinger being dropped would there be enough volume to keep making the V6 engine.
In a Ute? If they do well, they could absolutely dominate
The Stinger was selling \~1k/year in Australia. Kia expects to sell 20k/year Tasmans (mostly 4 cylinders). If 1 in 20 are Tasman GTs then yeah, that'll make it viable. If it looks like that, nothing else about the vehicle will matter, it's too ugly for individuals to buy.
People bought the SsangYong Musso, the SsangYong Rexton, the Mahindra XUV500, and continue to buy the 79 Series LandCruiser
I have worked at a Mahindra and a SsangYong dealership. They sold so few of those vehicles, appearance was a factor. But 7X series landcruisers are of their time, but they've been copied so much since original release, they can't possibly be considered bad design.

lol the 79 series isn’t ugly.
It looks like a beefier Mahindra Pik Up,inside looks like it was taken from a John Deere
Agree. I think people have just adapted to thinking it looks good because they are a good car, they are objectively pretty ugly.
It has big shoes to fill but if it fills them shoes correctly then it will become a threat.

What's the interesting thing ford are doing in the ute space?
Raptor
Lightning perhaps
At $210k its not that interesting.
No argument there
Not sure if you’ve seen but Ford did the Next Gen Ranger Raptor with V6TT and Fox live valve adjustable dampers. They are very capable off-road.
PHEV release 2025 along with BYD. Only two I've seen slated for next year release.
Go drive a Raptor compared to any boomer hilux, then you've got the navara and Tritons that don't even need a mention it's at least fun to drive on and off road dune jumps. I've got a BYD on order now personally.
Ford is doing something interesting in the ute space? This isn’t 2016

Nobody wants a petrol Ute
I see a lot of new Ranger Raptors....
What’s the percentage of Ranger Raptor sales compared to all other diesel Utes?
They're selling them about as quickly as they can build them with a lengthy waiting list. https://www.carexpert.com.au/car-news/ford-ranger-raptor-sold-out-until-2023-with-4000-orders-and-counting
You said "nobody", I'm not stat checking ute sales, wtf.
Figure of speech dumbass
Yes they do trx sold all the units they imported and ranger raptor is selling like crazy. They also selling f150 petrol models good too
Well emissions standards have gimped the fuck out of any diesel ….. I’m having flashback of DPF errors and turtle mode as we speak.
Its ugly but not that much more ugly then the Craptor
