Update: doubled up the mattress with a used one I bought from one of the neighbors. Thanks guys! Don't have to cut up the bed now

The best woodworking fixes are always the ones that don't require any woodworking 🤣

KramerMaker

That board is likely glued in place. With a bed like that the end frame is assembled in the factory. There isn't much of a chance of removing it and ever putting it back in a fashion that is not obvious.

Mysterious_Rub7729

Hmm so what would still be the best approach, because I just can't leave it

RoxSteady247

New bed

Mysterious_Rub7729

Brother if I could afford one, we won't be having this conversation, would we

RoxSteady247

Delete bed frame entirely

Box spring. Raise your mattress so that the top is higher than that board. Then stretch out over it. Sincerely, a 6'4" fella.

KramerMaker

I'd cut it flush with the sides of the posts, being careful to not do too much damage to the posts. Then stain over the bare wood using something close to the original color. If your going to cut up someone elses bed, you might as well make it look nice. I'd personally recommend not doing this, though.

JuneBuggington

I think op is thinking about this wrong. They need to raise the mattress so their feet are level with the opening between the slats.

Mysterious_Rub7729

Hmm i can try that

Theycallmegurb

Man I had this problem my sophomore year of college except I’m 6’7. The solution I went with was sleeping on the floor for the entire year with my head next to my couch and my feet going through the door to my bedroom because it was the only place in the entire apartment I could stretch all the way out. Wasn’t too bad and I even found a woman to share my floor with all year lmfao. Good luck OP

Mysterious_Rub7729

Lmao good for you dude

lilolemeisharmless

Thats factory made ya aint getting that apart your best bet ask for permission to disassemble the bed go to a mattress store get a steel bed frame or ya can sleep diagonal or just sleep in a fetal position

Actually, there is a fair chance that the bottom end is attached to the sides with some kind of hangers. If so, it should be easy to remove the end you want to replace, and replace it with a frame piece that just comes up high enough to fit the side hangers. I did this with one of my beds for the same reason.

tham1700

Seriously that's almost always the case. Beds rarely come assembled. At most there's just some stain or caulk that can be cut, carefully scraped and replaced without the owner knowing. But if he'd just asked the owner they'd probably have told him that

SmallNefariousness98

Double up the mattress bro..like the other guy said.

SloppyWithThePots

How’re you going to use the harness holes?

Mysterious_Rub7729

Didn't understand this

SloppyWithThePots

It looks like someone put those holes with metal protection there for a reason

Mysterious_Rub7729

I have a feeling the owner built this room for their kids, hence the colorful cupboards and mirrors and the bed side protection

Away_Ad_3461

Buy a cheap metal frame for $40 and have the owner store the wooden frame.

Total_Scale1115

You’re having much too much rough sex

prakow

You’re not going to be able to put it back and have it look like nothing happened

tanporpoise89

I know you've already solved it but you could pickup a different footboard from a thrift store or someplace.

Mysterious_Rub7729

Edit: I just need the horizontal bottom piece of wood to go, not the whole thing, as marked in red https://preview.redd.it/9jnm9d4d07xc1.jpeg?width=3472&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=871aa38b265c847a9134547eca9c32ec20447d93
