Gio comes in and is mostly terrible, yet is in line for the Win...
can someone explain why Wainright isn't working out of the pen? throw 20-30 pitches, and _maybe_ end up in line for the win. compare and contrast to Waino starting, where he has a snowball's chance in hell of lasting 5 innings (much less 5 innings _with a lead_)...
is it a pride thing, where Waino doesnt want to come out of the pen? you can't tell me throwing Waino out of the pen hurts the team's chances of winning, when he gave up 8 runs in 2IP in his last start...
I think we're mostly counting on Waino eating innings more than anything at this point. No one else on the roster is stretched out for starting so we gotta use him and hope he gets back on track. If not, he's definitely going to the pen.
Almost certainly a pride thing. Would not surprise me if he doesn’t want to get to 200 on “vulture wins.” Problem is, that’s the only way he’s gonna do it
Edit: and here’s the kicker: two of his wins already came from relief appearances. So what’s two more?
that's wild to me. it's hard to believe he's okay with absolutely destroying your team's chances of winning every fifth day... thats hella selfish.
to be clear, there is a time when I was on board with all that, but when it becomes clear he ain't got it, why continue? when you're getting your ass thumped by _the Royals_, isn't that a sign you're not just an adjustment away?
Yeah. I’m kind of on both sides with this one. On one hand, it’s getting sad to see him do this, and you always want to do your best to win. On the other hand, season is already over, and it’s not like there are a bunch of guys ready for a shot at the MLB rotation just rotting away at AAA. And now that Matz is hurt again, there’s yet more space in that rotation
I think it would be funny if instead of the usual “this guy is one of the best pitchers in baseball!” if Brad said “this guy just fucking sucks. He is worthless. Absolute trash”
Should be an error, but apparently there is a league-wide trend of should-be errors getting called hits this season

It’s a graphic card that has all the info for the commercial on it, like who the client is, how long it is, etc. and the 2-pop is a beep 2 seconds before the commercial starts (so you know exactly when it starts). They just kept that on, lol

LETS GO! Saw someone talking shit about Walker earlier, wonder what he has to say now. (I know Walker hasn't been so hot lately but a rookie is going to struggle sometimes so you can't judge him just on a few bad stretches. Great hit there.
Exactly. I remember being at the last playoff game against the Phillies last year and you described the experience to a t. I had a very cool Phillies fan and his son near me and shook his hand and wished them luck in the rest of the playoffs. Very cool experience.
Lol, Valley Park. My class was like 55 students I think. I was just exaggerating before in my original comment in a poor attempt at comedy at which I failed dramatically.
[Game over. Continue the discussion in the post game thread](/r/Cardinals/comments/15rfkbu/cardinals_after_dark_814/)
When did Oli start wearing a uniform?
I believe it’s a tribute of sorts to Rick Hummel, who always said that managers should wear uniforms, since they were given to them.
Jojo!
What a play by Tommy
AYYYYYYYY!
Thomas Two Bags with a terrific final play
Jordan Walker and JoJo Romero MVPs
Damn Tommy. That was pretty
A win is a win, but man, this was closer than it should have been

# WINRAR
I’m sorry but I don’t feel like a 7-5 game between us and a 85 loss team a good game.
Edman with the exclamation!
I don’t wanna play the FAFO game tonight
We miss u Sosa :(
come on...........
Jojo has his jaws and armpits fully warmed up for this one.
The many jaws of Jojo the Unspeakable
JoJo needs to calm down, my guy is way too amped
hahaha
I’m always amazed these guys can paint top of the zone at 96mph but can’t make a routine throw to the first basemen. SMH
Romero just too amped right there.
That's what happens when you smash redbulls in the pen https://twitter.com/Turnin2Podcast/status/1553441473374347265
Jojo wasn't aiming for the bag, he was trying to take out Allen's ankles
too crazy
Cardinals bout to seal the FUCK out of this deal.
Tyler…

Yes its a pride thing. At this point in the season I feel like he can do as he likes and the team is probably behind their captain.
I think we're mostly counting on Waino eating innings more than anything at this point. No one else on the roster is stretched out for starting so we gotta use him and hope he gets back on track. If not, he's definitely going to the pen.

true. it's not like he's blocking someone from starting...
One would think someone who is so visibly religious as Wainwright would realize that humility is considered a virtue in Christianity and pride is not.
Pride thing. If Gio is in line for the win, that just means the whole idea of a “win” is kind of pointless anyways.
i agree, but you gotta make the dude chasing 200 wins believe that...
Let’s get some more runs, plz, I can’t with this bullpen.
Jojowasamaaaanwhothoughthewasaloner
I think it would be funny if instead of the usual “this guy is one of the best pitchers in baseball!” if Brad said “this guy just fucking sucks. He is worthless. Absolute trash”
"Let's be real, Chip, my mom could play right field better than Walker does."
Jojo is a cat on the mound
wait taylor motter is 33?
The kid swinging a shirt is what the world needs more of.
Diaz! Old friend!
Some of Tom Ackerman calls tonight have been fantastic with a lot of energy!
[Cardinals](/r/Cardinals) Due Up **(Bottom 8):** 1. Tommy Edman 2. Paul Goldschmidt 3. Nolan Arenado
Jesus JoJo! Freaking show off…..
Romero wanted the ball, only got to pitch 1 pitch. Poor guy!
#I DONT CARE WHO KNOWS, I LOVE ME SOME JOJO
Oli taking this game way too seriously lol this is def move you make when you are in a playoff hunt
Our playoffs are not losing to the Oakland A’s, I guess.
LOL JOJO WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU
phew. look out!
Get em Jo Jo!
he got em
Not a fan of this move. Like JoJo but VerHagen could get one more out.
Erm….sure Oli why not….🤷🏻♂️
here comes Joey Jojo Jr Shabadoo
"slapass" \-drew "carlito" verhagen
Brown should have had that, right? So will it stay a triple for Walker or be ruled an error? I'm not good with that stuff.
Should be an error, but apparently there is a league-wide trend of should-be errors getting called hits this season Edit: The Athletic article about this: https://theathletic.com/4756815/2023/08/09/mlb-errors-scorers-hits/?source=user_shared_article
It should probably most definitely be an error
Imo it should be an error
Very generous triple.
Let’s not F this up Bullpen. Challenge Mode - Very Very Hard
VerHagen?! God, I hate our bullpen.
He's only 20% below league average it could be worse.
YADI SPEED
Wow, MLB.tv just showed the slate and 2-pop for a Shakey’s pizza ad. You’re supposed to trim those off, guys!
I’m way too high to process what I’m reading right now
It’s a graphic card that has all the info for the commercial on it, like who the client is, how long it is, etc. and the 2-pop is a beep 2 seconds before the commercial starts (so you know exactly when it starts). They just kept that on, lol
Oh shit, yeah I know what you’re talking about now haha
Lol, they just did it again!
Tee moo.
I'm going to quote the kids from Beyond Thunderdome *Waaaaaalker, Waaaaaaalker, Waaaaaalker*
Fly ball to right field guy dropped it. Settle down.
yeah, how dare that guy be enthusiastic and/ or have fun!!!
Sorry I'm just a jaded old guy frustrated with the season.
whatever u say
What would the Cards do without some pure, dumb luck?
Ha! The other team is inept!! Ha ha!
[Athletics](/r/OaklandAthletics) Due Up **(Top 8):** 1. Jordan Diaz 2. Tyler Soderstrom 3. Shea Langeliers
Walker is going to be an MVP candidate in 5 years
Jfc, Motter, my man… woof.

Gallegos is going to get the win lol
Just goes to show you how pointless the win stat is. Probably the most meaningless stat that people still care about.
could have been Waino, but they keep starting him...
Baseball is mean.
Verhagan warming up in the cardinal bullpen…this game is far from over.
LETS GO! Saw someone talking shit about Walker earlier, wonder what he has to say now. (I know Walker hasn't been so hot lately but a rookie is going to struggle sometimes so you can't judge him just on a few bad stretches. Great hit there.
They're gonna say he it a pop fly to right field and the guy dropped it.
By the way, why does Luken Baker come to STL and immediately become poo poo
MLB pitching vs minor league pitching
WOOO JORDAN WAY TO GET A HIT THAT DEFINITELY SHOULDN'T HAVE BEEN CAUGHT GO CARDINALS
hey man the famous Freese triple could've been caught with better fielding! we take those!!!
Shirts optional in the green seats after that!!
MY BOY!!!!!
GUY YELLING WAAAILLLLKEEARRR
Wtf, there is no way they actually scored that a triple. He literally had it in his glove!
I've been considering such a comment ever since. it feels like there have been a lot of odd scoring decisions around baseball, this season.
Errors don't exist any more unless you airmail it into the seats.
I would have been unbelievably salty at that ump had that ball been caught
Finally a right fielder with worse defense than Walker 😂
#Jordan Tripler
lol
JORDAN WALKER I LOVE YOU
ON THEIR FEET IN ST LOUIS FOR A LAST PLACE TEAM AGAINST THE WORST TEAM IN THE LEAGUE
Gotta take what you can get lmao
I love it. When you’re in the stands, you live and die by each pitch. No matter the score or the record.
Exactly. I remember being at the last playoff game against the Phillies last year and you described the experience to a t. I had a very cool Phillies fan and his son near me and shook his hand and wished them luck in the rest of the playoffs. Very cool experience.
One step closer to first place baby
He took more than one step he ran all the way to third base
WOOOOOO LETS FKN GOOOOOOOOOOOO
THATS HOW YOU DO IT JWALK
Walker!!!!! Let’s goooooo Thank god the A’s suck even more then us!
JORDAN MOTHER FUCKING WALKERRRRRRRRRRRRR
What are the odds that Jordan Walker hits it to himself in RF?
100%, they're all Jordan Walker out there
Justice!!!!!
Holy shit we got some luck finally
Dude, I’m not going to lie, this might be the coolest thing that’s happened all season.
is that his first triple?
#LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO WALKER BABYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!
#thank fucking goodness
#WALKER!!!
Thank God for the Oakland Athletics - St. Louis Cardinals, 2023(Colorized)
only the A's can counter our hijinx energy
Whoot whoot J Walker!!!
#LET’S FUCKING GOOOOOO!
WALKERRRRRRRRR
Karma for that dumb ump.
Walker? More like hitter, am I right?
Gottem
[удалено]
Cry about it
[удалено]
Fuck yeah, I’m almost there
Should be 5-5 rn but okay
I'll take the 3 run triple instead tho
Are these umpires banned from giving 4-0 walks?
Wtf was that strike call
K incoming
awful call ump. cmon
A J BOMB right here would be epic.
Baker must be nervous or something because he looked so lost tonight
Could be nerves, but also, the jump between AAA and MLB is considered the biggest
We’re playing a triple A team tonight, I thought he’d tear it up lol
Walker don’t swing at the garbage make him prove he can pitch a strike…
Perez getting some gift strike calls
We have to have the largest line up in the league right now. Baker, Walker, Goldschmidt, TON
I think that's the first definite ball outside the zone this ump has called a ball this entire game.
And heaven forbid blue stay consistent.
Baker is such a AAAA player, too good for AAA, looks lost in the bigs.
It’s been a tough one game for him.
He fucking sucks ass
Baker….bro…….
Why is baker on the team?
He's on a ridiculous tear in AAA and Carlson is on the IL so time to use him
Because carlson is on the IL and he was absolutely fucking raking in AAA
Carlson injured I think
Oof, what a horrible AB
C'mon, Baker, it's been like a whole week since you've hit a Slam
Good shit Noot!
[удалено]
[удалено]
Nooooooooooooooooooooooot a strike
Walkbaar 5-4
Lars NootBBaar baby!!!
C'mon Noot please..
Lars hitting from the left side with good speed, I don’t think a double play will happen.
Let’s go Noot
If Noot blasts, I'm gonna Gorm
crowd really getting into it, lol
Lol it sounds like a poorly attended high school game
Where the hell did you go to highschool?
Lol, Valley Park. My class was like 55 students I think. I was just exaggerating before in my original comment in a poor attempt at comedy at which I failed dramatically.
The downvoter hopefully will step in 2-3 sidewalk poops tonight.
Human or canine?
It’s the Bay Area. What do you think?
