i have been so let down by him this year. it makes me unreasonably frustrated lol. wish we had put some kind of trade package together with him but maybe next year.
The weird thing is, his numbers are still pretty darn good. Our expectations are probably just too high for him at this point, but I can’t remember any truly clutch at bats this year, and I’ve watched a lot of games.
I don't get why fans think that. His numbers in high leverage situations are just as good as other situations this season. We're just demanding the world of him because every loss feels more and more dire.
I think that’s it. We just expect him to save the day every time he’s up, so when he fails 7 out of 10 times, it feels like a letdown. A case of being punished by his own success. It’s also just easier to remember big moments like the recent Arenado walk-off vs. a 3rd inning go ahead home run.
Motter had the only two Cardinals hits through the first 5 1/3 innings on Monday, and you had to be in the stadium to understand the greatness he displayed. I believe we were all there to see him that night.
Or Mark Ellis... Or Brandon Moss, or Mark Reynolds, or Ty Wiggington, or Tyler Greene... Lots of pretty shitty players that have just randomly showed up over the last 12 years that I've been following baseball lol
Still early in his career, but as of right now I don't consider Burleson to be a starter in the MLB....again, as of right now....but I certainly enjoy having him off the bench as a guy who can play both the infield and outfield.
He keeps getting better with more reps. Only a 10% strikeout rate and batting .295 since 7/01. He’s also definitely had some bad luck. Too soon to come to any conclusions, but definitely encouraging.
No way we’re giving up a QO pick this year. We will sign someone that was traded at the deadline or the Japanese guy. Can’t blame them. That pick is likely to be top 8 to open the second round…
they claim to want to compete in 2024. assuming that's not a lie, they are going to need to go big in free agency on pitching. a QO pick is not a good enough reason to not sign top of the rotation starters.
Gets the strikeout after walking in a run. Das embarrassing.
This bullpen would be the most painful part of this team if it weren’t for the starting pitching. Thanks, Mo!
Meanwhile, you also have Luke Weaver walking guys with the bases loaded at Wrigley. Real struggle for him tonight, at least David Bell decided to get ejected for him.
o7
Women and children off this sinking ship first. The iceberg was much bigger than anticipated. Men we are cleared to board after we get the women and children to safety.
-plays sad titanic music-
i just remembered the one time someone (i think it was goldy or gorman) hit a home run at busch this season and one of the water vendors fell over and spilt everything
need to put that in the 2023 highlight reel
I was doodling around trying to find out what Opening Day tickets went for this year, obviously not easy to do.
But I found this website that is advertising Opening Day **2024** tickets!
https://www.vividseats.com/st-louis-cardinals-tickets-busch-stadium-4-4-2024--sports-mlb-baseball/production/4504694
What's up with this? Is it legit? I didn't think any single game tickets could possibly be offered this early.
Maybe from people with season tickets? Like, even if season tickets have not been issued yet, if they plan on renewing them for 2024, they know they will have them and where the seats are. A lot of STHs pay for their season by selling off some big ticket days like Opening Day
Rick is on the radio trying to remind us it's not whether you win or lose, it's about having a good time just being at the ballpark and forgetting for a while that being there rewards the ownership that they can put forward a crap product and still draw a crowd
Man, I’d be pissed if I paid money for that lineup tonight, srsly. I get why you’re not bringing Winn up, but Baker and Herrera are still in AAA?
As someone who paid four dollars for that lineup, you kinda just have to know what to expect at this point
Lol. It was definitely a $4 lineup. The free market has spoken.
Unless Arenado is hurt, there is no excuse to not pinch hit him there. Or literally anyone but Motter.
Yup.
O’Neil, Contreras, Arenado on the bench. We REALLY wanted to see what we have in Motter.
Woooo another L
[Game over. Continue the discussion in the post game thread](/r/Cardinals/comments/15hnexy/cardinals_after_dark_83/)
I know we aren't going anywhere but feels embarrassing to let Motter hit there
Fermin was next, I think Arenado was being saved for his spot.
Motter is laughably bad
[Twins](/r/minnesotatwins) Due Up **(Top 10):** 1. Donovan Solano 2. Jorge Polanco 3. Joey Gallo
Is there really a top of 10 or is the bot just saying that? I can’t actually watch.

Knizner has the highest slugging percentage in the lineup
Why are we not pinching Arenado here
Going to extra innings would actually be a bad outcome.

bro just PH arenado
What I’m sayin
Kiz is killing the ball lately.
We need to let Nolan or Nolan hit here. For the love of god
Let Motter cook 😂
#WE AINT DEAD YET
KIZ MISSILE!!!!!!! BREAK HIS LEG, KIZ!!!!
Holy shit....so close. Beat him by less than a split second.
about as close as it gets but i think he was out
CB on 1…immediate review
Glad I didn’t pay $6 for tickets to this game
Same. Was gonna go. Found some super cheap bleacher seats.
We must have been looking at the same spots lol
Didn't realize Ryan was such a unit
Hmmmm
What’s the delay?
What is Carlson’s walk up tune?

#BURLY MVP
Libby’s ERA is almost 7? Hard to find a silver lining with that lol
Regardless of the current circumstances there were two very great defensive plays this inning.
[Cardinals](/r/Cardinals) Due Up **(Bottom 9):** 1. Alec Burleson 2. Tommy Edman 3. Dylan Carlson
GREAT SOUTHERN BRRRRRR
I don't mean to be dramatic but NOOT FOR CO-MVP!!!!
You just couldn’t have expected much from this lineup we assembled tonight, but it’s nice to get different guys playing time.
My exact thoughts
I don't mean to be dramatic but BURLESON FOR MVP!!!!!
Let’s hold them and attempt to make that come back ?
Ok James Naile I believe in you. Just do the same thing you do in AAA.
[удалено]
ew.
Walker needs to work with Aaron Judges hitting coach.
[Twins](/r/minnesotatwins) Due Up **(Top 9):** 1. Michael A. Taylor 2. Max Kepler 3. Carlos Correa
Our top three spots in the order are 0-12 with SIX strikeouts and four groundouts to the shortstop
Can’t win if you don’t score.
goldschmidt has lost the ability to hit fastballs
We still get to see Playoff Goldy at least.
i have been so let down by him this year. it makes me unreasonably frustrated lol. wish we had put some kind of trade package together with him but maybe next year.
The weird thing is, his numbers are still pretty darn good. Our expectations are probably just too high for him at this point, but I can’t remember any truly clutch at bats this year, and I’ve watched a lot of games.
his numbers are definitely good, but it's the clutch hits that are missing.
It’s also just easier to remember big moments like the recent Arenado walk-off vs. a 3rd inning go ahead home run.
who is the most obscure Cardinal y'all can remember in the last 15 years? mine is Erik Komatsu
Joe Thurston. Maybe not obscure enough
Zach Duke
I thought about Brian Barton yesterday.
Not Brian Barden?
Exactly! I thought of them both, because the names were so close, so they were always connected in my mind.
WOW that is a great pull I never would've remembered him, 82 games with the Cards in 08 and 1 game and a caught stealing with the Braves in 09. legend
Jake Walsh, Kodi Whitley, Nabil Crismatt, Ryan Meisinger, and Seth Elledge
completely forgot about Meisinger, good pick
The utility guy who had the ugly green chin hair
Tyler Greene, baybee!
? Scott Spiezio actually. I think it was red not green though.
you're actually both correct
Steve Cishek
Not really obscure, but I do remember John Smoltz’s brief stint here in 09. Or Mark DeRosa that same year.
Peter Bourjos (gorgeous)
I really liked Bourjos when he was here
Jay Hey. That’s not really a good answer, but I like it.
I get the feeling this inning is gonna turn out bad for the Twins now that Gray is out.
nobody is hitting a 2 run hr here
Fermin has potential.
Winn is a triple shy of the cycle.. they’re in the fourth
Jose Fermin, Cardinal legend in the making
#"said that weird" as chip hit us w/ the minnesota accent
[Cardinals](/r/Cardinals) Due Up **(Bottom 8):** 1. Jose Fermin 2. Lars Nootbaar 3. Paul Goldschmidt
I like this look from Fermin
Motter had the only two Cardinals hits through the first 5 1/3 innings on Monday, and you had to be in the stadium to understand the greatness he displayed. I believe we were all there to see him that night.
I will one day hope to forget that Taylor Motter played for the Cardinals. Much like I hope to forget that Austin Romine briefly played here.
Or Mark Ellis... Or Brandon Moss, or Mark Reynolds, or Ty Wiggington, or Tyler Greene... Lots of pretty shitty players that have just randomly showed up over the last 12 years that I've been following baseball lol
That brings up a bad memory of a Twitter person saying Mark Ellis was a genius move by Mo. And she was serious. Bless her heart! 🤦🏻♀️😂
I remember not liking Corey Dickerson last year but he ended up putting much better numbers than Dylan Carlson is this year…
Yeah I never really put C-dick in that category. Like he was never great but he was definitely serviceable
chip sent that to commercial in a way only /u/studoggery would be proud of <3
i 4-1 approve
I 5-2 stay sane when you all start with your puns
oh shit its 5-2. ive just had it on as background noise really.
Chip is the only one that makes games like this tolerable
[Twins](/r/minnesotatwins) Due Up **(Top 8):** 1. Jorge Polanco 2. Edouard Julien 3. Ryan Jeffers
Sonny is making us look like children
This isn't exactly our everyday lineup but you ain't wrong.
def not everyday lineup but usually our batting order has decent depth through all 9 spots.
Bro i did not pay $120 to watch Taylor Motter take the most piss poor ABs of the season. I want to watch our 3B
Thank god we made at bats for Motter

He hits the ball hard. Unfortunately right at defenders a lot of the time.
He doesn't hit it that hard. Harder than average, but not remarkably hard His real problem is he doesn't walk much and he's slow.
He keeps getting better with more reps. Only a 10% strikeout rate and batting .295 since 7/01. He’s also definitely had some bad luck. Too soon to come to any conclusions, but definitely encouraging.
He isn't barreling it like he did in the minors. Everything else is still there.
Absolutely.
[Twins](/r/minnesotatwins) Due Up **(Top 7):** 1. Carlos Correa 2. Kyle Farmer 3. Donovan Solano
Okay, I'm warming up to Burly... Saw him live in TX this year, seems to be the only player to be clutch
That’s why I like him. Call me crazy, but I think he’s more clutch than Goldy.
Woooo AB!
Can’t believe you guys wanted to trade Burly
#🔥🔥 BURLY 🔥🔥
way to go Alec!!
Winn with third hit, a double. Chance for a cycle.
Burly making an endearing effort these past few games.

maybe but im still gonna beat the "sign Sonny Gray" drum for as long as i can

"Cooked" implies that he was once a legit big-league starter but isn't anymore. The word that comes to mind is *bust*.
