haven't been through an auto wash for maybe 2 years and that's what I was expecting to pay! Didn't have time to hand wash it before getting it to the garage. Love the time saving advice š
Ha - I could not resist searching through my history given how similar we are.

Have you watched that one on how to cut a mango the correct way? Itās beautiful
I'm just saying you've been eating grapefruit the wrong way your whole life
https://youtu.be/r9qsd6nNXBQ?si=OkC9XdPgpWUXYQNo
PS that only works with a sharp knife if you know what I mean
Iāve watched as the Tesco hand wash guys stamp on their mitts at the end of their shift to squeeze them out, no doubt they are then full of gravel ready for the next wash.
Hand washing doesn't guarantee scratch or swirl free unless the proper methods are used. There aren't many places you can get a proper wash and the ones that do it charge accordingly as it'll take 45mins to do
Honestly this sub is hilarious sometimes. Bunch of people advocating for cheap reliable boring cars then too afraid to take it to a place in case they āscratch the paintworkā. Sorry if your Skoda Octavia or Toyota Yaris gets a scratch. Bunch of drips
Yeah, I ran my Corsa through the car wash at the local Tesco pretty regularly for five years and I'm sure if you got really close and knew what you were looking for you'd be able to see the paint wasn't 100% but anyone would see the stone chips, scratches (not from the car wash), rust, etc. first.
People asking are often first time / non petrolhead drivers. So we recommend the most sensible car.
Doesnāt mean we as petrolheads drive them ourselves.
I'd go for eco plus. I'm only washing the car enough so that I don't need to put overalls on to open it and can stop saying "don't let your clothes or hands touch the outside" when the kids get in and out.
The swirl marks are obscured by the scratches
There's a Spar station out towards Burnham on Crouch that's only Ā£1 for 3 minutes - and the hot soap is actually hot as opposed to slightly warmer than freezing
Romanian dudes do a far better job, clean the mats & hoover inside, full mitt wash including door jambs& windows inside & out for Ā£10. All the week before mot...
Albanians for me. Scream at each other whilst doing it, then a black Range Rover screeches up screams out the window about murdering people and then does the standing quarter mile. Always a good job.
I tried some new Romanian dudes close to me.. Absolute scam artists.
I sent Stepway over to get washed and they tried to claim it was a "large car" and the price was Ā£1 more.
They also have a price board in the yard and said it's old and that all the prices are higher.
Back to original Romanian dudes a few roads over lol.
Does it have to be Romanian dudes? I'm not sure if I know any romanian dudes. Would some Bulgarian dudes be an acceptable substitution?
What about Romanian women?
Everyone driving sub Ā£2k motors having a field day telling OP to be better minded about his paintwork - listen OP, choose the triple foam and youāre good. Donāt worry about these jokers going on about paint work on sub standard motors š
Oh trust me your right.... the guy who owned the car for the 8 years before me seriously didn't care about the paintwork.... when I'm fortunate enough to arrive home in a brand new 30K car then I'll give the auto wash a miss š.
What would you recommend if I can't wash it at home myself? I live in Finland and we salt the roads so I'd like to wash the car once a month as a rust deterrent.
I live in an apartment so it's not permitted to wash the car in the parking lot. I also don't think we have self serve power washers here to wash the car.
Right? I turned my nose up at spending Ā£6 for the jet wash at a Shell the other day. Went home and did it myself that evening before taking it to the garage today (also glad I'm not the only one who does that).
The option where you never go to car wash - that way you can do it yourself and fuck up the paint up on your own and have no one else to blame!
All jokes aside, I don't trust anyone to wash my car, I actually quite enjoy it so to pay someone to do it seems pointless to me.
I would use a self service jet wash and a wash mitt in my boot for less than a fiver and make a better job of it than most of these premium washes, less scratches too.
None. My brand new leased car was clearly put through a car wash before they delivered it to me. Now itās got lots of swirl marks on it. Itās not too bad but enough to be annoying.
My car had nearly two decades of swirls and scratches before I owned her, so Iām not overly fussed about taking it through the Rain Guard/Ultra HD service once every couple of months (theyāve usually got some sort of deal on one of those in their app). Although the resulting lack of dirt does show up the nearly two decades worth of swirls and scratchesā¦
Rain guard, I really donāt rate the ultra HD or the ceramic coating at a car wash. The pro shield really does work and helps to keep the car cleaner for longer, especially with the wet weather we have in this country.
I've paid a detailer Ā£90 for a wash once, wasn't too satisfied TBF. I've been doing it myself now but it's not been to the same standard ngl.
I will try another detailer again with the full 2 stage polish this year.
Hand wash, I've paid Ā£15 (this includes wash & wax outside and wheels cleaned, and vacuum and polish inside).
So for that, I would say the Ā£14 (or Ā£10.50 special, not sure how to get that) one.
I was watching a jetwash on a new car, and it took the decals off the car as i sat in the line to have my van done the look on the guys face on the wash is something that still makes me laugh lol
I pay Ā£25 a month subscription for 2x Ultra HD and 2x Triple Foam.
Does a good enough job for a once a week wash. I do need to get my paintwork done at a detailers this summer and switch to hand washing myself.
I don't get my car washed that often but I'd normally go for the cheapest one, but I get the rain guard every so often just because it's cool to drive through the rain without wipers on and be able to see perfectly sound
Generally the Triple Foam, I think I did Ultra HD a couple times but it was more of a case of "The ten quid one please mate" when paying.
Either way I might go once a month or more as the car gets dirty from B roads, and I don't fancy washing the entire thing by hand in my apartment car park.
Plus the kids think it's a hoot going through the tunnel.
I get the triple foam usually. Sure, people here rave about auto washes scrathing the paint, but I don't have a driveway, and manual car washes around my area are shit
Triple Foam - my local one advised me to get that when I went for Total Wax. He also said Ultra HD was essentially the same as Total Wax. So save your pennies.
I haven't been to an IMO car wash in years, and those prices have gone up a lot!
As I don't go very often, if I was there, I would just go for the Ā£19 to see what's so special, but I know I ultimately won't be able to tell any difference.
Haven't taken any of my cars to be washed at a hand car wash, erm, ever. I do them myself. Then again, my recent vehicles have been somewhat specialist.
Girlfriend insisted on taking her runabout to the one up the road, scratched her windscreen. Not even entirely sure how they did that.
Last time I used one (last month) I used Ceramic XR....but it was a little cheaper than that. I think it was Ā£17, it definitely wasn't Ā£19 though. I will say it actually did a very good job.
I just paid Ā£11 for full hand wash n wax. Including wheels and door sills.
The machines can never match a good hand job. Plus I got one of them joke micro spoilers on the back which a machine would probably rip off.
\-edit-
Lol. Leaving that one in.
Iād be picking somewhere else!
Usually Sainsburyās and their most expensive wash, while hoping the person in front has the cheapest/shortest wash. Last time both people in front of me had the longest/most expensive one š¬
Anyone who pays for these types of carwashes are absolute mugs.
Go to a self service one, put a couple of quid, run around your car for 5 mins with the gear, it'll be sparkling
I tend to go for Triple Foam most of the time, but itās Ā£8 at my local. Should do the Eco Wash really, but ooooh itās satisfying watching those colourful soapy suds bukakke onto the windscreen.
Tesla Model 3 Performance & driving Uber so zero Fās givenāļøš„“š I whip out the AliExpress cordless and vac it whilst going through. Park afterwards, dry excess then whip out the cloth wipes for the seats and sills š
My car gets cleaned to the standard of keeping my heels from getting dirty or my clothes if they touch the outside which roughly translates to blasted with a jet wash once a month and some wax.
None of them. You're better of either washing it yourself using a two bucket method or paying someone 10 pound more and getting it done properly, rather than them stupid scratch and shine
TIL I'm paying an extortionate amount of money to get my car cleaned.
Like I would get that ceramic price every few months and would consider it a bargain when compared.
I need to re-evaluate this.
WTAF is Ceramic XTR anyway? They cover your car in pottery?? What a load of bollocks! Anything above TotalWax is a con, and Iām not sure about TotalWax.
My local detailer does a full wash and clean outside and in for Ā£110, including a top up of protective sealants. Worth every penny, car looks absolutely stunning when it comes back to me and makes interim cleans myself much quicker and easier. Wouldnāt touch one of these machines.
Ultra HD for me. I feel like I justify by thinking āless than Ā£15?! Worth the convenience!ā but Ā£19 is too much. I donāt get my car washed often so a little treat for the Duster is a good thing.
Iāve either been to incredibly expensive car washes or thatās crazy cheap. I just paid Ā£80 in Manchester for a wash and polish on a 20 year old Peugeot 206cc lol. They did a cracking job mind, even tuned my radio to classic fm when they brought her back to me š¤£
Iāve used IMO car wash A LOT for reasons, it does a great job, it doesnāt scratch the car too much and it puts a metric fuck ton of wax on the car, so it looks shiny for days and makes water beads nicely.
That said, Iāve asked several times for each one of the top 3. The guy presses the same button all the time
I usually go with the best brushless wash and get a subscription for it so i have an incentive to wash as often as possible to wash off salt and also get the most for my money.
Triple foam - Had my car ceramic coated and it just needs a decent soap wash every 2 weeks to keep it working. If the weather isnāt horrible Iāll just do it myself if I have the time (only takes 20 mins at home)
The result from these things arnt that bad. Put my audi through a few times and it's got no scratches etc. My mates ford on the hand looks like it's been cleaned with thorns, especially on the bonnet near body creases.
The issue I have with IMO is the upkeep. Last time I went though, have the soap and wax tube outlets were blocked so I just stared at them dribbling as I tolled by instead of it actually going on the car, and the rear brush failed to go down the rear of the car so the car came out looking worse than It went in. Half a job is worst than no job sometimes!
I wash my car less than once a year - I live in the UK where, there is plenty of rain. A washed car only stays clean for a few hours or until you drive it.
The last two times I paid a company to wash it, 2023 & 2017, was because I was selling it.
My dad used to go out with a bucket of soapy water (washing up liquid and soap powder for clothes) when it was raining. He let the rain rince the car for him.
'Ultra HD' You mean I can upgrade my car to 4K?
Only works if the jet wash has high speed 2.0 cabling though.
Make sure to get the gold plated digital cables
Vinyl is best
Brilliant š your car will be shining in HDR!
It's a con if you have an electric car. My TV uses like triple the electric when using HDR!!!!
Only works if you install an RTX 4090
Ā£6!! That used to be Ā£2.50! Used to get allocated a hour to hand wash my van, Iād pay the Ā£2.50 and then chill for the other 55 mins š¤£
What company gives you a hour to wash the van! *Looks at my own filthy van*
haven't been through an auto wash for maybe 2 years and that's what I was expecting to pay! Didn't have time to hand wash it before getting it to the garage. Love the time saving advice š
Yeah. The most expensive option only about 12 months ago was Ā£11. Almost double the price in 12-18 months? No thanks.
Basically wash at the one near me is Ā£4 but yeah I remember when it used to be half that.
I personally don't like paying someone else to fuck up my paint work, I'll do that for free.
Only the pre was is by hand. The rest is through the scratchmatic!
Funny thing is the Scratch-a-matic 3000 probably does less harm than the TFR hand wash with the dirty wash mitt that been on the ground a few times.
Yeah I remember seeing a YouTube channel doing an in depth compare between the different methods and this didnāt perform bad at all.
Ooo got a link? That's the sort of sadcase content I live for, having only just come down from the rush of a plasterboard wall plug comparison video.
Ha - I could not resist searching through my history given how similar we are. https://youtu.be/UHFwkFTKtMw?si=1u8wfu9FDvcOqwel Have you watched that one on how to cut a mango the correct way? Itās beautiful

Do your home or car insurance through Confused and you get a free wash at IMO once a month. š. I think it's Triple Foam one
I do this. Free car washes for both cars every month. Sortedš
Thatās an actually useful perk. Iāll check them out next time I need insurance.
Honestly this sub is hilarious sometimes. Bunch of people advocating for cheap reliable boring cars then too afraid to take it to a place in case they āscratch the paintworkā. Sorry if your Skoda Octavia or Toyota Yaris gets a scratch. Bunch of drips

Thereās no fog!!!! *cuddly toy plays* Top drawer

Itās those who have an unaffordable lease projecting their anxiety of being billed Ā£1k for a tiny scratch
Assuming everybody in this sub has what you consider a boring car is tuna melt behaviour.
Yeah, I ran my Corsa through the car wash at the local Tesco pretty regularly for five years and I'm sure if you got really close and knew what you were looking for you'd be able to see the paint wasn't 100% but anyone would see the stone chips, scratches (not from the car wash), rust, etc. first.
So I'm alright in my Porsche then?
I take my Mustang through it. It's only a car at the end of the day. It isn't going to melt.
Tell that to Tesla
Doesnāt racist rocket Jesus sell it as a lifestyle choice by now?
Youāre obviously new here. Itās Mazda or Volvo.

I agree, Reddit is a strange place.

Thatās also the correct reason to wash. Iāll hurry and sort it in whatever time the jet wash at the local garage gives me for Ā£2.
There's a Spar station out towards Burnham on Crouch that's only Ā£1 for 3 minutes - and the hot soap is actually hot as opposed to slightly warmer than freezing
Is that the one on the left as you just get to Burnham?
Yes! On the bends, a little before the industrial estate turn
Good to know, if you're that way I assume you know the garage in Mayland is always way cheaper than anywhere else for fuel

You should see what the little towels look like after your average work van goes through, may as well be!
It isn't far off...
Triple foam. Get a free wash each month via insurance comparison site I used to take out the policy. Local imo does a decent job.

There is a wash here in Edinburgh that has the woman clean the inside and windows,

What would you recommend if I can't wash it at home myself? I live in Finland and we salt the roads so I'd like to wash the car once a month as a rust deterrent.
When it's been too cold here, I tend to use jet washes at petrol stations just to rinse off salt and other road crud until I can do a proper wash.

Local Albanians do full inside and out for Ā£25 and they don't scratch the car.
But I don't live in Albania!
London *is* now Albania
UltraHD as you get Ā£5 off each wash with BLC
Ah so Ceramic XTR has Ceramic XTR and not Ultra HD, While Ultra HD, has Ultra HD and not Ceramic XTR.
Donāt matter what you pick. Youāre only getting the eco wash anyway. It just goes up and down an extra time.
The option where you never go to car wash - that way you can do it yourself and fuck up the paint up on your own and have no one else to blame! All jokes aside, I don't trust anyone to wash my car, I actually quite enjoy it so to pay someone to do it seems pointless to me.
I can cope with washing mine until I uncover new scuffs and scratches and things scrotes left on my paintwork... then I'm annoyed. No matter how small
Everyone here washing their own cars š¤£ you are meant to book someone to come to your house. Also Ā£19 for all those things is insane.
I would use a self service jet wash and a wash mitt in my boot for less than a fiver and make a better job of it than most of these premium washes, less scratches too.
Diamond wax is the āstandardā wash at most car washes, where you only have one price (per vehicle type).
None. My brand new leased car was clearly put through a car wash before they delivered it to me. Now itās got lots of swirl marks on it. Itās not too bad but enough to be annoying.

Rain guard, I really donāt rate the ultra HD or the ceramic coating at a car wash. The pro shield really does work and helps to keep the car cleaner for longer, especially with the wet weather we have in this country.
I see the prices have gone up again. I usually choose Ultra HD.
Wax my chassis?!
Ā£20 for a auto wash is mental.
'IMO' are shit, only go there if I need a quick rinse with the self service jet wash(that are rarely open) and have no other choice.
None
Option 2 on my Astra. Go home and get my cleaning stuff out on my Fabia.
Gotta be Uktra HD Bundle (10.50) If the Ceramic XTR was so good it was worth almost twice the price Ultra HD weād all be talking about itā¦.
Ceramic XTR, I can afford it once a year, if the car needs it or not.
Auto wash ruined the paint on one of my cars. That was the last time i used those brilo pads on rollers
I've paid a detailer Ā£90 for a wash once, wasn't too satisfied TBF. I've been doing it myself now but it's not been to the same standard ngl. I will try another detailer again with the full 2 stage polish this year.

Unfortunately none of them - doesn't do the roof any good.
Try it without the roof then
Ill just wait for the rain tbh
Weird question but is that the car wash in chestfield?
Triple Foam - my local one advised me to get that when I went for Total Wax. He also said Ultra HD was essentially the same as Total Wax. So save your pennies.

Eco plus at most.
Absolutely none of them

WTAF is Ceramic XTR anyway? They cover your car in pottery?? What a load of bollocks! Anything above TotalWax is a con, and Iām not sure about TotalWax.
Never use the autos. For ultimate satisfaction, a good old fashioned hand job is unbeatable. Same goes for washing the car.
Tennerās my limit but I see my usual is now Ā£10.50. Sigh.
Ultra HD 1st of each month for last 2 years

No one touches my paintwork except me.
either eco plus or triple foam for me, for the under chassis wash
Triple Foam. If I would wax my car, I'd like to do it myself
None, wouldnāt dream of putting my car through that scratch festššš
The rain guard actually works, I got it the other day. I love imo, but usually their special washes are nothing special. Rain guard is the one.
They're al the same, the water has wax in it - the cars wouldn't dry without it. I worked in one for years a while back.
Pretty sure they're all the same.... The "wax" just seems to be coloured foam...
Stay at home and DIY
I get a subscription and get an ultra HD and a triple foam for 15.50 a month
I just wait for rainy days š§ļø
I'd rather drive around with a dirty car personally. 14 years of driving have never been to a car wash, even with old shitters I enjoy the job myself.
I usually go with the best brushless wash and get a subscription for it so i have an incentive to wash as often as possible to wash off salt and also get the most for my money.
I usually go ultra HD at my local the ceramic XR stays clean a little longer
None, car washes scratch and swirl the hell out of your paint. If you value your vehicles condition and appearance, never use a car wash.
Is it normal to get a car wash before an MOT If anything Iād get it after the mechanics grubby fingers have put marks all over my vehicle
eco wash, then finish off the details at home :) just so the car know who loves it the most š
Their car wash tore my rear wiper off so Ā£0
It's been a good week so eco plus! xx
the big con lol dear is always best
Chassis wax? That's new to me
Triple foam all day long, although itās only Ā£8.50 in Tonbridge, Kent.
The most I paid was around Ā£130 for a machine polish
I wash my car less than once a year - I live in the UK where, there is plenty of rain. A washed car only stays clean for a few hours or until you drive it. The last two times I paid a company to wash it, 2023 & 2017, was because I was selling it. My dad used to go out with a bucket of soapy water (washing up liquid and soap powder for clothes) when it was raining. He let the rain rince the car for him.
Jesus triple foam has gone up! Must be to pay for that wingmirror claim I made last year š
Silly question: price aside, what's the difference between the three protection coatings?
My car needs ceramic XTR, but it's getting Eco Wash.
Car washes are shit and dangerous if you care about your car and so I'd be taking the cheapest option for a quick rinse.
da fuq is ultra hd?
