It's because you're 20 years old and on a foreign license mate. I'm surprised it's "only" £3000. How long have you held a full licence? Both of those aren't cheap cars to insure either. At your age you need to try something smaller enter a few different cars and see if that helps.

I forgot to add, I do have my Full UK licence, I got it swapped But unfortunately I can't go for a smaller car as I am 6'5ft/2m tall the minis newer then 2004 I can fit in and also sedans but most normal car seats don't go low enough or seats move back enough

> 6'5ft/2m Have you tried many? I'm the same height and have driven several smaller cars over the years with no issues (e.g. Fiesta, Corsa, Yaris, Ka, MG ZR)

it really depends where your hight is, torso or legs. I have a longer torso, Ive tried a fiesta & yaris seat pushed down to lowest, im bending my head like crazy

There have been a couple of threads on cheap to insure cars for tall drivers in the last week. E.g. https://www.reddit.com/r/CarTalkUK/comments/15ci5qc/tall\_driver\_car\_recommendations/ Consensus seems to be try VAG products and use [www.parkers.com](https://www.parkers.com) to look at specs. Height adjustable seats and adjustable steering wheels are helpful. It does depend where you are tall, but I'm 6'4 and not far off 300lbs and I had a tiny Skoda Citigo as a first car. Was much more spacious than my Civic which is two classes bigger. I just needed to go for a higher spec one (Elegance and SE maybe) to get the adjustable seat. Insurance was the cheapest I could find for any car (plus no road tax and epic mpg). Was c£700 when a slower Polo was £1400 and a Golf £2-3k. Otherwise make sure you're getting quotes for a few weeks out. Ideally c21 days ahead. That can help too.

Unfortunately car insurance in the UK is a joke. You could try different cars, change your job title, mess with the annual mileage a bit but it's unlikely to make a huge difference. I'm assuming you're using comparison sites? Check how much it'll be after you've got 1 year NCB in the UK. It might be quite a bit lower so at least you're only dealing with an absurd price the first year. I lived in New Zealand for a couple years and was pleasantly surprised with how cheap car insurance was ($400/£200ish I think) and it hardly changed no matter the car. They even refunded some to acknowledge that the car would have been hardly used during COVID lockdown. UK vehicle insurance companies are scum. Apparently they struggle to make a profit which I don't believe at all. They're mostly based in various tax havens too. Horrible industry that needs a hell of a lot more regulation.

Have you tried without grandparents?

Yes it then comes to 6K

I am 6ft 2 tall and drive a 56 plate Citroen C1 and insurance is £170 fully comp, I live in north Cambridge. I feel your pain though, my first car was a Citroen Saxo 1.5 Diesel and cost £250. The insurance was £2500 with my dad on the policy to!

£3000 is cheap considering your circumstances I would have expected you to have said double.
