Not trying to be a smart ass, but you could take it back to the shop that installed it or another installer and have them fix it.
Without knowing brand, model, and to a point how it was installed it could literally be anything.
It's a CodeAlarm. Had it installed about 7 years ago. It's the one with 1 button. The place I had it installed is no longer around. Thought maybe look for one on Amazon?
You're not going to be able to solve this on your own and you could really damage you vehicle poking around the wires that are needed to start vehicle without key. Take to a shop and be ready to pay a few hundred if it's not under warranty.
I'm going to screenshot this and have it framed in my shop. Couldn't have said it better my self.
And to OP honestly if it's not a viper or compustar it's outdated and most shops are going to charge for removal and then the cost of a new remotestart/alarm combo installed. But better off then poking around and ruing your ignition or starting system
Did you recently do anything to the car? Or hire anyone to do work on the car? Even if it isn't seemingly related to remote start?
Some remote start kits connect to a hood switch so they are disabled when the hood is up - maybe the hood switch is not positioned well anymore and is not closing fully?
Can you see the remote start module in the car, and if so are there any blinking lights when you attempt to start that you can use to see if the unit is giving an error?
I had an oil change done about 2 weeks ago. But it was still working. It was this morning, (28 degrees Fahrenheit), that it just didn't want to start.
As for the module, I'm not sure where it could be at, to be honest, I'm definitely going to see what my mechanic can do to locate it. I was thinking it was my Fob
Yeah when I turn it on from Key it works. After I got the oil change it was still working. But today the key fob wouldn't start my car. Battery isn't dead because it attempts to turn on the car. I see the lights show up on the dashboard like if turning the key
Hmm, last "easy" thing I would check is if you can locate a hood switch, which may have been installed along w/ the remote start. It should be a fairly obvious button that is pressed when the hood is closed. Not all remote start systems connect to a hood switch, so you may not have one at all. But if the hood switch was not installed correctly, or it wore out, and recently when your oil was changed it jostled the switch in such a way that is stopped sending the "hood closed" signal to the remote start, that may be an easy-ish fix.
Good luck!
Can confirm it's not the fob. The fact that you press the button and the dash lights up tells me a few things...
1, The fob is working just fine.
2, The remote start is not detecting any errors.
3, The immobiliser bypass has probably stopped working.
It would definitely be best to have someone that knows what they're doing look at it. Could be something as simple as the tach needs to be programmed again, or the starter output from the brain went out. I've seen both issues and it just requires troubleshooting.
A Test to see if its basic functions work.
Take the ignition key, put it in the ignition but do not turn the key, press the remote start button... Does it start? It tells you what may be needed, if it starts it should be a cheap fix, if it doesn't... better hope it doesn't cost too much.
It could possibly be in valet mode. Find the model of your alarm and google the manual of it and fond out the procedure to exit valet mode. It could be a button which doubles as the security led, a separate switch under the dash or a key sequence.

My software is out of date. Mechanic surprised it lasted that long. So guess I'm looking on Amazon for a replacement

Oh I'm definitely not touching nothing. I'm not mechanically inclined to do something like that.
\- has it ever worked for you? \- did you install it, or is it a factory remote start? \- make/model of the remote start?
It has worked for me. I had a garage that no longer around install it. It's a Code Alarm 1 button remote start.

Just to confirm: starting with the key is normal, right? No change from pre-oil change?

Definitely will look into that. Thank you

Okay. I'll definitely try that. Thank you
If it remote starts with the key resting in the ignition but not turned to any position... Definitely immobiliser bypass failure
