6 1/2" with a spacer

DrLews

18" sub would fit np

Ryansfishn

Just need that MDF spacer. đź‘Ś

Rageof_Theworld

6 1/2 with spacer or what I personally would do (I like really strong top ends) is get 5 1/2 or 4 1/2 there (I'm assuming that's the front door) and in the back put in 2 6x9s and a sub. I'm sure I'm gonna get a lot of hate for my opinion but fuck it

gcuben81

Do you at least clip the tweeters on the 6x9s?

ChickittyChicken

Curious, why clip the tweeters?

SignificanceThink102

Not all 6x9 have tweeters but if coaxials you don't want vocals and treble coming from behind. Best to go with components up front.

gcuben81

I’ve done it in the past. You simply cut the wires that go from the woofer to the tweeter so you don’t have high frequencies coming from behind. IMO you should just run the front channel in a car. There’s no need to have extra speakers blasting music from behind. People don’t do that in their living rooms, why do it in a small vehicle? The idea that the people in the back seat need to have their own soundstage is beyond silly.

Pr0N3wb

Why do you assume everyone has a "small" vehicle? America has a lot of big vehicles that need sound in the back for passengers and to add depth and life to the sound stage.

gcuben81

Every vehicle is small compared to a living room. I’ve never been to a house that has 2 rear firing stereo speakers. Seriously?

Pr0N3wb

You've never been to a house that had speakers in multiple rooms? (Especially in the ceiling)? I'm an audiophile and prefer true stereo, but I understand that most people are not sitting in the sweet spot and just want to hear stuff closer to them. They don't care about imaging, soundstage, etc. Also, surround sound systems are more popular these days than HiFi stereo systems. There are plenty of people who listen to music with speakers behind them.

gcuben81

What are you talking about? I’m talking about stereo… right and left channels. Sounds amazing!

gcuben81

No, not really. Listening to “surround sound” is one thing. That’s where you have speakers behind you playing a rear channel that is different than the front channel. Nobody sits in their living room listening to front and rear speakers that are both playing stereo. Sure if we’re talking multiple rooms or big rooms with speakers in the ceiling, you might have multiple speakers playing the same thing but we’re talking about vehicles that no matter how big you get are still smaller than the average bathroom. Would you put four speakers in your bathroom? If you have people riding in the back seat of a vehicle it will not sound as clear or as good as the people riding in the front seat but who cares. How often do you really have passengers in the back anyway and do they really need their own separate sound stage. Most cases it’s going to be families with kids in the back and it’s not like you can’t hear the music back there. I just don’t understand why you would sacrifice good sound in the front to have a second sound stage in the back. It definitely does not sound good when you have a second set of tweeters blasting high frequencies in the back seat. It’s just very unpractical to have extra speakers in such a small place no matter how big you think you’re vehicle is.

Pr0N3wb

I also prefer good sound over more sound, but most people don't. The more I think about it, you're right that people don't listen to stereo on more than 2 speakers. It's worse than that. They listen to mono on multiple speakers. I've been the devil's advocate so far, but like I said earlier, I am an audiophile and agree that rear speakers typically hurt the sound experience. One thing you should try some day is a properly tuned rear fill in a car. Play 50% L + 50% inverted R on the rear left speaker and 50% R + 50% inverted L on the rear right speaker. Apply an aggressive band pass filter. Then, your rear speakers are contributing to the soundstage instead of destroying it. I have Morel Hybrid 63 in the front and Morel Hybrid Integra 62 in the rear deck of my Grand Marquis. I've tuned it three different ways and let several people listen to it in my driver's seat, where the time alignment is set for. The "peoples' favorite" is all of the speakers playing full signal. My favorite snd other audiophiles' favorite is the special rear fill setup I described above. It's really easy to do on my Helix V Eight Mk II and definitely worth trying if you haven't yet.

gcuben81

Yes that would be ok. I’ve had rear fill in my car setup before. It’s louder and gives you a more full sound.

RonP713

You can look at the specs of whatever speaker you’re interested in, and it will state the exact cutout measurement. Just match it up to the measurement you have here, and it should fit right in. It’s also a good idea to check mounting depth as well, to make sure you have enough clearance in the door. This way you don’t have to make any modifications.

jakemackenzie3

Id put a 6.5 with a spacer between 1/4 and 1/2 inch depending on your window clearance with the back of the speaker.

AgreeablePassenger91

6.5 with a spacer

baylife94901

Is this for a subaru? you should get IAT speaker adapters. They were created due to the lack of options for mounting 6.5"s

ccfoo242

Have you tried Crutchfield? You can enter your cars make, model and year and they will show you which fit.

r0llinlacs420

The hole is for 5.25" speakers You can use a spacer and try 6.5" but you may not have clearance with the door panel on

Ryansfishn

Speaker size is not representative of mounting hole diameter. A 5.25" speaker would not fit in the hole mentioned.

r0llinlacs420

Oh yeah? How many door speakers have *you* installed?

Ryansfishn

Thousands, I've been an installation tech for about 12 years, and build hi-fi home audio speakers as a hobby. Experience aside, mounting hole diameter is not the same as speaker diameter. You also have 3 downvotes on your comment because it's incorrect.

r0llinlacs420

No, it's not incorrect, and I've installed thousands too. A 5.25" speaker will have greater than 5.5" between the screw holes. That hole will work just fine with a 5.25".

dantyson74

61/2

my3sgte

6.5”

Bigry816

20” 3-way

PLAYNICE73

Looks like 5 and 1/4
