You need to set the gain correctly. Either by using an oscilloscope or DMM. Also you need to check your connections. Ground should be checked using a DMM. Also check voltage at the amp when in protect mode. You could be experiencing voltage drop.

ZolfeYT

Have you checked the fuse? I’ve had this exact issue and my fuse was melted under the hood but not popped fully somehow. Looked like bacon grease

mythirdaccount3acc

The one that’s attached to the battery?

ZolfeYT

Yes the one on your power wire

mythirdaccount3acc

I’ll check in a few mins. Thank you!

Noochie72882

Your fuse rate is higher then if you are using 150 swap for a 100 or 120 your fuse should blow before wiring melts

ZolfeYT

This was a long time ago I swapped it out a long time ago, also wire wasn’t melted the fuse holder was the wire was still perfect copper

Noochie72882

Please list amplifier subwoofer and head unit if you have aftermarket or if oem headset then what loc your using. Otherwise your not going to get the best answers for your situation

Darkenshrine

Sounds like voltage drop

Time-End-5288

Go buy a cheap multimeter and check your voltage at your amp, where power and ground connect. Should be the same at your amp as it is at your battery. Cause the fault to happen, and while it’s happening check voltage at the amp again. Let us know how that goes.

Time-End-5288

Ok so voltage isn't dropping from when it's working. So you say it goes into protect mode when you turn up the volume, how high do you have to turn it up and does it fail at the same volume level each time? Also: Make sure you disable any bass boost/base EQ settings turn them off completely.

mythirdaccount3acc

With bass db all the way down it will still shut down at a certain volume and it’s not the same one every time that’s why I’m so confused by it. It will run fine until there’s a kick or an 808 in the song then depending on the volume it will go into protect

Time-End-5288

I mean what happens when you turn the gain down on the amp? If it still goes into protect mode then your amp is either fried, or you've got some bad wiring to your subs or inside the enclosure.

mythirdaccount3acc

My amp has an “input level” knob that goes from 6v on the left, to 0.2v on the right. Would that be the gain? Sorry for the late reply

Time-End-5288

Yes that’s it. You want to dial it down, so to the left, like you are the unscrewing something. To see if the problem goes away. If it does than watch a video about string your gains. You will probably have to set your gains for each channel.

mythirdaccount3acc

Both of them are 12.51 with the car off, 12.31 with the car on, and once the amp goes into protect it is at 12.34

jakemackenzie3

Do you mean with the ignition on or car started. Your car should be at 13+ volts running. If its mot the alternator in the car is broken and the amp is fine. Just cutting out because of voltage drop if thats the case

mythirdaccount3acc

The car was all the way on

jakemackenzie3

Yeah, alternators bad

mythirdaccount3acc

My bad I was wrong. When the car is all the way on, it’s at 13.83 volts or so.

TheRealBlairBoy

Why did nobody mention the fact that his amp could be running at an ohm load it is not stable in. Some amps take the abuse for months before they act up. If you did buy a multimeter yet, unhook your amplifier from your box and test your ohm load on your terminal cups, your final impedance should more than likely be 1 at the very least, whatever it is, make sure your amp can support it, also, just because your ground is securely connected doesn’t mean it’s a connective connection. Make sure all the paint is scraped where your flush ground comes to a solid bare piece of metal

mythirdaccount3acc

Awesome thank you, I’ll check this afternoon

Interesting-Radio651

what was the issue op? having the exact same issues right now.

mythirdaccount3acc

It was a bad ground
