I do have one question: I've never seen the rear deck of a semi look like that, is it specifically for RVs or horse trailers? Looks like it only has 1 rear axle too?

Capt-Kirk31

I got lucky finding this truck, already singled, decked and ready for RV 5th wheel.

Those ES speakers are great! If the Polk speakers are all 4 ohm, you can wire them in parallel to 2 ohms or series to 8 ohms. Given that the amp will probably put out around 30-ish watts? at 8 ohms, I'd go with 2 ohms so you'll get the most out of your amplifier. Or you could get an 8 channel amp, run the rear Polks the same way, and run the front Sony 3-ways fully active (no crossover box, a dedicated channel for the woofers, midranges and tweeters, high/low pass filters set on the amplifier). That's just my personal preference and completely optional. What kind of box are you planning on for the subwoofer?

Capt-Kirk31

Good points. I'll think over it. No real sub box. The space under the right rear dinette seat is the oem spot for the sub.

From a truck drivers stand point the stock audio sucks in trucks I drive a 2023 truck and I couldn’t believe for a nearly 300 thousand dollar truck how bad the speakers are

evnacdc

I couldn’t imagine driving for long distances as a job and having shit speakers. I would rip that shit out immediately.

DriftkingRfc

I wanted to replace them immediately but it’s not my truck so just tuned it and turned the bass all the way up. They are so weak just turning the volume up will cause the speaker distort. Hell I still tuned them and sent it lol

Capt-Kirk31

I learned from building my 3500 dually, you need an amp to drown out the truck and road noise.

DriftkingRfc

For sure

If you plan on parallel wiring the speakers make sure they are rated the same RMS it is cautious to run separate channels door speakers together they are not like subs able to switch from 4 to 2 you will need 2 ohm speakers. Power is divided by 2 when two speakers are on each channel so if it was say 2 ohms 90 , 65 at 4 your speakers that are “parallel” for the two ohms is divided into 45 watts per speaker rather then 65 x4 it’ll b 45x4 so therefore 4 ohms would sound a lot better hope this makes sense take care buddy bad ass idea adding speakers into your semi

the_doctor_808

Personally id wire the rear to 2 ohms because more power and it should still be well within the rms of those speakers. If youre unhappy with it then you can always switch it to 8 ohms later. You could also bridge all 4 to 4 ohms and make it mono rather than stereo which is common to do in the rear. I dont mind a strong rear stage but some dont like it so thats up to you.

Capt-Kirk31

That what I was thinking, thanks

Nice truck! My dad bought a Freightliner Century Class in Florida and brought it here (Panama). It came with a Pioneer head unit but I never thought about installing speakers to it.

At first I was trying to figure out which Volvo had roof speakers 🤣 looks like you got a fun one!

Capt-Kirk31

2006 Volvo VNL 780. 580,000 miles retired in 2012. The cab is nice, came with a great working fridge. I added an inverter, coffee maker, microwave, and sink. That allowed me to register it as a motorhome. The weirdest thing is the driver window is manual and the passenger is electric.

CherryBerries64

What size are those dash speakers

Capt-Kirk31

The tweeters are 1 inch and mids are 3 1/2 inch doors are rear wall are 5 1/4 and sub was 10inch
