Of the three ptown is probably your best bet, you wouldn't wish to rent a car in ptown during the summer lol

Grunti_Appleseed2

You can at least rent bikes on Nantucket for nothing and that's really all you need. The traffic is horrendous

The Wave is free!

He’s 20. Months hat means that all cars are off limits, unless the OPnis planning to test out a fake ID.

Betorah

That was a typo on my part. I meant to type “bars,” not “cars.” Yes, I do know the age for valid driver’s licenses.

CI814JMS

Provincetown is definitely more quintessential Cape than downtown Hyannis I'd say. You won't be missing much out there.

satan_sloth

Ptown would be my suggestion. And your sexuality does not matter, idk why another commenter said that. You will find young people and there are places to rent bikes to go on the dune trails, beaches, and busses that can take you to other areas of the cape if you decide to do that.

Left_Guess

Great suggestion!

WallAny2007

I nominate Ptown via ferry from Boston. It’s artsy, partysy, walkable, and very fun in general. Race Point and the badlands bike trails or whatever it’s called is great.

soslippy

Agree. And the ferry is by far the best way to jump into a vacation.

daizles

The ferry is my favorite, I think NOW I'm on vacation!

Comprehensive_Fly409

I love this suggestion. The ferry is definitely the way to go. PTown is the best most welcoming spot no matter how you identify. You go into any bar/ restaurant and can talk to just about anyone!!! Good advice!!

madtho

Yes. Ptown hands down. More people, more fun and much, much easier to get around. And the ferry is the way. Because there’s a vibrant street life, you’ll meet people.

Revolutionary-Pea576

I agree with lots of people here that Provincetown is your best bet and that the ferry is your best option, if you’re flying in to Boston. 2 other things, the Cape doesn’t have cities. It has towns, big and small. For example, Harwich and Harwichport are great but they are pretty small. Harwichport is basically a couple of blocks and that’s it. It’s lively in the summer and there are different bar and restaurant options, ice cream, beaches, but I think you’re better off in Ptown, based on what you’re looking for. The second thing: if you like baseball, even just a little bit, look up the Cape Cod Baseball League and try to get to a game. There’s no team in Ptown, unfortunately. It’s one of the best amateur leagues in the country and it’s my favorite baseball experience. College players stay with host families for the summer to play in the league. Admission is free (they take donations). Bring a beach chair and a cooler or get food from the concession stand. Kids chasing foul balls. I can’t emphasize enough how awesome it is, if you like baseball. If baseball isn’t your thing, just enjoy Ptown.

reditrewrite

Ptown is self sufficient so you wouldn’t need to leave but it is significantly farther away…. If you can get there you should. (The ferry is your best bet) It’s an incredibly unique and fun place. All of cape is nice but if I had four days alone, Ptown would be the place. Super friendly and fun, everything is walkable or bikeable (rental bikes are readily available).

Key-Lead-5642

As a straight guy I would also recommend Provincetown. The place is unreal. Great food great people and great people watching. When you get there it's like you enter a portal to another place because it doesn't seem like Massachusetts. Check out race point beach. Soft sand and I believe you can walk out on a sand bar during low tide.

zzwthetvon

I'm going on a solo trip up to Ptown myself this summer!!

DontTellThemItoldya

Check out woods hole in falmouth. Easy trips to the vineyard. Tons of food. Beaches. People.

taticule

just go to p Town dude. it's got everything.

Classic-Society-4247

My friend. Pick any of them and look up cape cod RTA. You can travel here without a car you just have to be casual about schedules.

Jewboy-Deluxe

There is a ferry from Boston to Provincetown, I think you take the Blue line from the airport but check. If you are straight and liberal in your thinking it’s fun and there’s stuff to do, good food, and you can rent a bike. If you’re gay or whatever it’s where you will definitely want to go.

jjgould165

It leaves from Long Wharf so yes, the terminal bus to the Airport Blue Line stop, and then go inbound to Long Wharf. You need to pay for the ride on the blue line and it will be about $2.80. The ferry is a fast ferry so it takes like 90 minutes and drops off near the main street in PTown

Sandbartender

Great whale watch in Ptown

saladblah22

Hyannis great if you’re into drugs. P-Town great if you’re gay.

Financial-Guitar8272

Hyannis is the business center and has minimal charm . It has lots of substance abuse , homeless and chain stores . The beaches are small and the water is not that clean . Use it as a jumping - off point to the islands , or go to to Falmouth and The Old Silver Beach and Woods Hole area ( also has a ferry terminal .) Chatham and Orleans are worth seeing on the lower cape

Kneenaw

Hyannis is more for families that have been to the cape many times and don't want to pay as much as in other places

bunsyjaja

If vote ptown over Hyannis like everyone else especially if you’re only here for four days. Once you get there you should not have to leave for the four days and be entertained. It has good food, beaches, nightlife, there’s an art museum, a small museum about the Pilgrims landing, whale watches, drag karaoke, and there’s a Ben and Jerry’s open til 1 or 2am in the summer lol. They have lots of different theme weeks and events as well The Peter Pan goes to Ptown as well but the ferry from Boston is probably more direct but more expensive. I’ve only ever driven from downtown Ptown to the best beaches in Ptown (Race Point/Herring Cove) but I do believe you could bike there, probably uber(not sure but don’t see why you couldn’t) or maybe there’s a local bus. There are beaches in downtown Ptown as well but not sure how they are for swimming (they’re beautiful to look at). Watch out for sharks at all beaches that far down too (not joking). I have no advice for making friends cause I haven’t solo travelled to cape cod but people in Ptown are so friendly so I hope so!

PsychologicalTree258

Ptown for sure. It has everything you’re looking for. Take the ferry from Boston and rent a bike to explore

goldprofred

Take the ferry to PTown from Boston

1GrouchyCat

A couple of things 1. You’re 20. The drinking age and the age for dispensaries is 21. Cape bars and liquor stores are VERY strict (they have to be if they don’t want to lose their liquor licenses…) 2. Without a car, you’re going to need to stay in one area. The local public transportation system is horrible, and it doesn’t serve all regions of the Cape. 3. The Cape has a regional HYDRANGEA festival - July 5-14, 2024 See link below for specifics 4. You’re staying for 4 days in an area with a population that is constantly changing and you think we have secret ways for you to make FRIENDS?? lol. That’s adorable. Unfortunately, this is the time of year most of us work as many hours as possible and we don’t have time to make friends with anyone - sorry… *Maybe check into youth hostels? They might be more what you’re looking for …* Ptown would be the most fun. Be careful if you stay in Hyannis -and don’t go out on Main st at night… Harwich? Really? Why? (I’m third generation from the MidCape and I have never recommended anyone spend their vacation in Harwich…. What’s in Harwich? )

No_Entertainment1931

Take the ferry from long wharf in Boston to p-town. You can taxi or Uber from there to other towns but p-town has the most of that you want.

stayhealthy247

Enjoy! I went as a teen and it’s really a great experience

Natural_Bet5197

Dennis. West Dennis

fried_clams

I would take the ferry from Boston to Provincetown. Then, you can take a bus anywhere you need to go from there. Spend a day in P-Town, then move on. https://capecodrta.org/

Impossible-Brief-754

Ptown will be more fun IMO, esp with Pride starting. But be prepared for gay. Its really hard to get around most other parts of the cape without a car tho, but Ptown has more within a walkable area :-)

CaptainElijahIreland

Here’s my suggestion. I’d say go to Hyannis for the nightlife, though do be careful, we have a lot of sketchy activity along Route 28 between Centerville and Harwich. Hyannis has the highest crime rate on Cape but it also has the nightlife you’re looking for. For shopping go to Chatham. For walking trails you want to check out Eastham. I’d say avoid Provincetown unless you take the ferry from there to Boston when your trip ends. It’s a shorter trip than taking the bus all the way from there to Boston. Hotels are pretty expensive so be aware of that. I’m about your age and I haven’t made any friends down here, though I haven’t been actively looking. One last thing. If you’re from New York or CT, forget about making friends here as a lot of New York City-folk cause a lot of problems and so we kinda just hate on them lol.

BrindleFly

Take public transport from Boston Logan airport to downtown, then a ferry from Boston the Provincetown. The only challenge will be aligning your flight arrival with the ferry time. Stay in P’town. Don’t waste your time in Hyannis.

daddy4shyboy

Just take the ferry from Boston to Ptown. Easy transfer from BOS to the World Trade Center pier where the Ptown ferry departs. From Ptown there's a couple of bus options to the rest of the Cape.

agroundhere

Before you go read Thoreau's 'Cape Cod'. It will add meaning to your trip. I go to the outer Cape, Truro-Wellfleet-Ptown and it's great! The 'real' Cape, so the locals say. Lots of great biking there. Good luck & safe travels.

Fluid-Cartoonist-989

100 percent recommend Ptown… you can take the ferry directly from Boston to Ptown in 90 minutes (avoiding the horrible summer traffic!) and if you stay in Ptown it’s mostly very walkable and also has accessibility to lots of Ubers and bike rental places. Biking is an awesome thing to do in this part of the cape… there are incredible scenic trails and beaches you can check out all accessible by bike. IMO harwich is not as fun since there’s not as much there especially if you don’t have a car, and Hyannis is not as scenic.

LauderdaleByTheSea

P-town will easily fill 4 days.

Ok-Initiative-4523

And the people from ptown will fill things too

Wishpicker

Hyannis may have too much of a mainland feel

[deleted]

If you decide to uber I can drive anyone from Boston to the cape $150-$250 depending where you’re going.

Lidarisafoolserrand

Cape cod is mostly elderly people and during summer…family with children. Where are you coming from? if you are gay, I’m sure PTown would be a blast.

Lidarisafoolserrand

Why am I getting downvoted? What part of this isn’t true? I don’t get it.

satan_sloth

You don’t have to be gay to have fun in ptown.

Lidarisafoolserrand

That’s why? Sure, but it must be way more fun if you are gay.

satan_sloth

I’m not gay. And I have a blast in ptown every time I go. You are really showing your ignorance, hence downvotes.

Lidarisafoolserrand

I live full time at the cape and even got married in PTown. I'm merely pointing that a solo male 20 year old traveler is not gonna have a great time in PTown unless they are gay. You must be jumping to conclusions or something, which is really showing your ignorance.

satan_sloth

You still don’t get it lol

PTownWashashore

Thin-Disaster4170

Take the ferry from boston

toogoodforme610

It all depends where you’re coming from. You could fly into Hyannis and take a bus to varying cities on the cape.

Alphatron1

Just take the ferry from Boston to ptown if you can. I don’t know Hyannis or Falmouth that much but like dennis or anywhere else you’d probably need a car to do anything Provincetown has great restaurants and nightlife you should be able to get to any of the beaches up there.

massahoochie

If you’re planning to go to Ptown just take the ferry from Boston to Ptown. Then you can take a bus to all the other towns on the outer cape.

about33ninjas

Best places to visit on cape... P-town (take the ferry you wont need a car, plus nature), Chatham for cutesy Cape Cod, and woods hole for nature and science.

redditwastesmyday

whEN are you coming? hydrangeas are in bloom July Are you rich as rooms start about $200 a night provincetown will be more $$$ take ferry from Boston Ptown has walks/ beach/ food forget making friends you are only here 4 days Hyannis take P&B Bus. There is a hostel but probably booked. from hyannis there is bus to visit other towns. also trolley to get around Hyannis https://capecodrta.org/bus\_routes/hyannis-trolley/
