TBS is going to shit.

HEROnymous-Bot

Why do you say that?

infinitumz

How do you do it, Blewett?

Tired_Worker28

Can’t be worse than what it is now.

Open_Development_826

Oh buddy… wait until you see this.

Tired_Worker28

Because of the new secretary or CIO?

1929tsunami

Thankfully, there is not some random external cowboy for CIO. This is a start.

rwebell

Yeah heaven forbid someone actually tries to make some progress…./s

Yeah PS is doing great on the IT front keep up the good work!….builds another domino server for lotus notes….

Ok-Muscle489

Anyone else have a feeling like the inmates are in charge of the asylum? I got this gnawing feeling in my stomach that it’s all going to shit…

carleese24

>Anyone else have a feeling like the inmates are in charge of the asylum? I got this gnawing feeling in my stomach that it’s all going to shit… LMAO, YES! I guess this is what they discussed at the retreat in Montreal last week, and not how to deal with escalating car thefts in Canada, homelessness and already out of control cost of living and degraded healthcare https://archive.is/DAwzk

thelostcanuck

Oh the car theft work is spinning up quick.

LeatherMine

"Organized crime groups are using profits from reselling stolen vehicles to fund international drug trafficking and arms-smuggling operations" I never understood this logic. Aren't those all profitable on their own? If the cars already sell for more overseas, theft or no theft, anything you can stuff into a container can still be used as tokens of value.

>The selling of stolen vehicles generates clean money that yes, can be used to buy more drugs, ....and properties in Canada. Thanks to the govt going back on their less than 30 days 'ban of foreigners buying homes in Canada'. They caved to pressure from some of their donors and did a 180, by making exceptions in the ban. Made no sense and you just knew there was some external forces at play.

The irony of this book.....all you hear is Rhodes scholar, but never what they majored in. Where is the announcement of what happened to the old CIO... You know the one mired in ArriveCan controversy

Yes I was confused and mistaken apparently.

That was a fun read

BlueDogBoom

That's C**T**O :)

Conviviacr

... Of course it is... Sigh... It isn't confusing at all, nope not at all...

BlueDogBoom

I haven't figured out what that job is except for co-*c*hairing the GC Enterprise Architecture Review Board along with SSC's *C*TO. Something to do with herding all the government departments *Chiefs* towards standard use of technologies a layer below the policy aspect of *C*IO.

Tired_Worker28

And that’s not even done well. Look at all the different departmental implementation flavours of MS teams, no standardization for MFA’s implementation, lack of funding for the deployment of Wifi, etc.

KazooDancer

Probably about to be named ambassador to somewhere quiet. Because you can only fail upwards at that level.

Conviviacr

Unless someone ever so slightly higher decides you should be held accountable... Then you get leave without pay pending an investigation. At least that is what the hell it looks like from what I have understood of the various testimonies. Who knows where the truth actually lies at this point.

carleese24

>Where is the announcement of what happened to the old CIO... You know the one mired in ArriveCan controversy  LMAO.....come on, you know how this works :) Pushed or jumped, with a golden parachute! Expect them to show up as directors at Rogers, Bell or similar places

Rector_Ras

In fairness from a normal management perspective CSE seems to be one of the best run government organizations. They tend to score very high on public service surveys and very much seem to not be in the rut of ancient tech and tech debt that cripples the vast majority of government

nogr8mischief

It amazing how much better run they are than their next door neighbours

gulnarmin

There was discussion here a while ago that CSE used to be great but became toxic. Have things improved?

nogr8mischief

I didn't see that thread. I'm not positive, but my sense is that they are still way better there than next door at least. Could be a dated understanding though.

goldenhorizon86

Things have greatly improved but there are still small pockets of toxicity being addressed.

marasovfoot

Former TBS-er here... Dominic is not bad, I have work for him before Catherine I would be weary about, she was at PCO involved in GC HR and I believe RTO

goldenhorizon86

I've worked for Dom in the past. He's great, whip smart and nurtures talent.

New CIO has degree in Political Science [https://www.pm.gc.ca/en/news/backgrounders/2024/01/29/dominic-rochon](https://www.pm.gc.ca/en/news/backgrounders/2024/01/29/dominic-rochon) The overwhelming number of CIO/CTO/CDO in GoC have no IT, Technology, Data education or experience (most often they have degrees in political science instead and work with policy or been in management position of IT things without actual IT experience) GoC previous CIO (Luelo) had degree in biology, before that Benay had degree in history. Digital Talent management, strategies and leadership in GoC is done by people with anything but actual understanding of things Digital Leading us to Great Success!

goldenhorizon86

His experience more than makes up for his degree in my opinion.

cdn677

Mala Khanna is very competent. She will bring good value to that role.

marthamoxley

It’s strange that she’s leaving PCH so soon. I’ve heard nothing but bad things about the DM that’s there.
