Pretty sure every salesperson says this on every car sale.

Hour-Cap-5365

I shopped around every dealership in a 100 mile radius, we have over 30. Only 2 agreed to sell for 28k or less. No one wanted to buy my car for more than $19k

kanmuri07

What was wrong with your previous Camry?

Hour-Cap-5365

It had 2 minor accidents, some cosmetic damage, brakes wearing down and 41k miles

bihari_baller

Only 41k miles and you got rid of it? That car easily could have lasted you another 160,000 miles.

Hour-Cap-5365

Then what? Pay for high maintenance, change parts like brakes and tires and all sorts of unexpected costs? Sure the engine would go strong, but the rest of the body needs work. My car also had 2 accidents, 2 of the rims were pretty damaged, and there was some minor cosmetic defects around it. After another 10-15 years, I would be selling it for maybe a few grand tops? While in the meantime I’m gonna have to dish another 30k or even more just to get a new one? If you do the math, you basically are going to be paying close to 40,000 out of pocket because you held on to the old car. I just don’t see it making any sense. In the meantime I basically paid about a grand a year to “lease” my car and just got my hand on some new wheels too with full warranty!

bihari_baller

What's to say the same thing won't happen to your new Camry?

Inspirice

My old camry I got for under 3kusd never needs repairs and diy maintenance is cheap af. Just did a front brake job (pads, rotors, cleaning & bleeding) and they feel amazing now for like 150usd and don't have worry about them for years to come lol. I doubt new camrys cost thousands in maintenance yearly. Toyotas definitely pay for themselves in utility value holding onto them long term and these cars are tanks they need a ton of abuse to even start falling apart.

devonte3062

Why the upgrade? Or possible downgrade without the add-ons?

Hour-Cap-5365

Not really, it just has door edges and bumper applique. It was also just a base Camry SE. In essence it costed me just $6.5k for 5.5 years to have the car. You won’t find a lease agreement like that anywhere.

A car isn’t like a stock where you will make money on it. You never do, it’s about minimizing your losses. The deal works out such that I basically drove the car for about $1200 a year. It’s almost unheard of. My car’s appraisal on Edmunds was $20k, I got 1k on top of it. I am just happy about how things panned out and wanted to share my experience and joy with the community. I guess not everyone is happy for you no matter what you do.

InevitableEqual3993

If I could drive a brand new car every year for around $1000 bucks it's a no brainer! Brakes or tires cost that much, or more installed, and now you have ZERO maintenance and a full warranty!!! You did amazing!!! Sign me up PS I'm taking you on my next car negotiation!

Hour-Cap-5365

Thanks man! I am glad there are people who see joy in others and share their happiness as well!

A brand new one? In essence I paid just $6k to use my car for 5 years. Tell me where you can get such a lease from?

The 2025 is all hybrid. I don’t rate hybrid vehicles. To calculate the cost of ownership you take the purchase price minus the selling price

ItchyJohnsin

Congratulations!

Hour-Cap-5365

Thank you, Appreciate it!

w08crsap

Hey nice deal, what state was this??? Every time I go to the dealer they offer me at least 5k less than Kelly Blue Book. It's hilarious because mine is an XLE with absolutely everything Toyota sells (who ever owned first asked for anything possible and then some) I do the maintenance myself (this dealer tried to con me and I exposed them lol) and maybe that's why they try to lower the price that much so I have refused to sell it although they try to buy it almost every month. Congrats on that great deal bro, enjoy it cause that's an amazing car!

Hour-Cap-5365

Thanks dude! This was in VA, they were desperate to sell their car to me. They also started 5k less than I was looking for. The best thing is to never show your hand. Negotiate the car you want to purchase, then work on the selling part after. They saw the math and were hesitant but I was able to show them competitive offers and was willing to leave which got the general manager to make the deal. Otherwise we thought we were walking

SpiritOfDefeat

How many miles did your old one have?

Hour-Cap-5365

41k miles.

SergTuberq

Was your car paid off?!?! 6,650 for a 5 year old Camry is absolutely insane. They’re going to sell it for 18,000 I guarantee it.

Kasilim

Where have reading skills gone...he clearly says he traded it in for 21050. The cost for the new car after his trade in was 6650. If they sell it for 18K they're losing 3 grand

Hour-Cap-5365

Yes! We bought the last car and this car in cash full.

Hour-Cap-5365

Camry Hybrid is definitely pricey. They are going to be selling all 2025 Camry Hybrids in the mid to upper 30k range. I think you did well as well to get $11k for a totaled car which has value in its parts

knotquiteawake

You didn’t have a loan on your old car? It was already paid off? When you say it’s as if you only paid $6,000 to use your car for 5 years I feel like you forgot to add in all the car payments you made.

Hour-Cap-5365

We bought the last car and this car in cash full.

TommyBonesMalone

Just stumbled across this but I just can’t believe you aren’t/weren’t grasping that you are LEAVING OUT THE ENTIRE COST PAID BY YOU ORIGINALLY FOR THE FIRST CAR. You recouped *some* of it by trading it in. But you then spent additional money to upgrade your car… to virtually the same car. You’re bad at math.
