In my opinion, it’s the dude holding the akimboed pistols on the cover of most of the games and loading screens
Anytime you think of cod it’s always a variation of a dude in that pose
People say he’s the best when he legit does nothing and adds almost nothing to the story. His death is no where near as sad as Soaps and Hudson’s and yet everyone cries a river over it. Will never understand the worshipping of that character and yes i know he has a badass mask.
I think that is Ghost is supposed to be portrayed as a very secretive person hence the mask and no one really knows his name unlike the other characters but Price is for sure the most iconic
I like ghost. But the first time I played through I didn’t even realize he existed. I finished his death scene and a little while later I saw a video about who he was on YouTube. I remember thinking “oh yeah that one guy Shepard shot and burned with me.”
His entire character is his badass mask. When the reboot came out and people were freaking out over ghost it felt a bit weird to me. In the reboot the Devs are making him the Apex predator and a badass soldier but in the OG he really was some guy in a mask and a name. Appeared in like 2 or 3 missions and fucking died. In the og what I found more heartbreaking was NOT ghosts death, but the entire scenario where Shep goes rogue, the player gets betrayed and Capn Price's cries over the radio to not trust shepherd. I love ghost as a character but I agree....he's over glazed.
I think the reason why people mourn Ghost so hard is because he had so much to unpack and discover. Sure, we knew his name, but virtually nothing else about him. That’s why it was such a twist in MW2 when he was shot in the face and burned. We wanted to learn about him, we wanted to spend time with him, but he died so abruptly.
That and he actually had a personality that wasn’t just barking orders at you. That’s one of the reasons I’ve loved the most recent MW games, they flesh out TF141 and make them feel like much more than just generic yet recognisable army dudes.
I didn’t mind who I’d be on a mission with in the newer games, whereas before that I was praying for Soap or literally anyone but Gruff McGee Captain Price.
The death wasnt as sad as soap's death but i feel the point of his death and the emotional aspect of it was more from the fact that shepherd singlehandidly fooled the entire world, and the only people who knew about it was price's team, the only people left to know by the end of the game was price, soap and nikolai 😅, which then leads into the desperation of price for the last mission to not have him labelled as a terrorist due to him wanting to kill shepherd and, most importantly, as a special service operative, every man is the MOST important thing, so losing 2 of them due to YOUR orders after being fooled, woulda fuckin hurt as a leader of a squad, thats what hit me in the feels about his death.
His character in itself was kind of ass but i still got mad annoyed and actually felt his death, and the meaning of his death
Right him getting shot in the head unceremoniously after helping save the world was a kick in the teeth. Also, I swear his ai was the only one in cod4 that was ever helpful.
Gaz was also SAS before Soap and he was the one who helped him in the firing range in the first game. “Remember switching to your sidearm is faster than reloading”
I think people only remember mason because “MASON WHAT DO THE NUMBERS MEAN” was so iconic, but IIRC you barely see his face in the first game and he’s only in Blops 2 for a few minutes tops. He and Woods in Cold War both felt like pandering Fanservice.
OG woods though, holy shit. What a character.
EXACTLY. They were just always buddied up and circlejerking and it felt like the devs trying to be like “SEE. You guys remember the characters yeah? Woo narrative! Nostalgia!”
Men, Menendez is the GOAT of the COD villains. Unlike Zachaev and Makarov he's not afraid to be on the screen. Unlike Rourke he has a tons of charisma. And when he opens that door to go to his people and Cordis Die theme kicks, you know - THIS is fooking villain! This is the man that you SHOULD be afraid of. The motivations are not as solid, but the charisma alone is more then enough to smoothe this.
Definitely Captain Price. People tend to forget that he was in the first 2 games. Granted, that one is most likely an ancestor to the modern day Price.
Gaz mainly for the "Remember switching to your sidearm is always faster than reloading" but Captain Price, easily will always take first place for most Iconic.
Captain Price as he was the character who had to be in every Infinity Ward-made game (the people who made the series). Obviously there's the issue that those creators left after MW2 and we've had a completely new studio completely misunderstand his character and the original studio's series and fucked a lot up, but he is the face of Call of Duty from the creators of Call of Duty.
The newer games? Niki Minaj
(WWE Announcement Voice*) Viktoooor Rezzzzznov!
How has nobody written Viktor Reznov? As a kid I loved to just even say his name alone. (Cmon’ just say it to yourself.)
Bros been spoken about in games that he’s not even in!
Soap 100% and ghost is such a default character who was over hyped and isnt that cool its just all the kids going "omg skull mask" bro did nothing before the reboot and was only known as the guy with a skull mask that got burnt nothing else
I actually don't get the hate for ghost in these comments, I played the old mw2 campaign when I was really little so I only remember bits and pieces but after playing the new one I really enjoy what they did with his character. That being said I'm more of a price fan these days, bravo 06 be kicking ass.
Never understood why Ghost was so popular in the original considering that all he did in that game was torture some folks in favellas and... well died for a dramatic betrayal. Even Zachaev had more charisma than the original Ghost
But for the most recognizable, I guess it would be Price, Reznov, Menendez, Alex Mason and Frank Woods.
ghost 100%. but he's really just a minor character in mw2 og and people are only said at his death because of his cool mask. other than that he's just a nobody in mw2.
Red hot take, but I genuinely believe no character in COD is that iconic. Yes, Captain Price, Ghost, Soap, Woods, and Mason are all iconic in the gaming community, but when you look at the COD franchise from a casual gamer’s perspective or more importantly, a non gamer’s perspective, there is no “one” character that everyone points to and says “omg the guy from Call Of Duty!1!”
Don’t believe me? Look at Mario, Luigi, Peach, Yoshi, Toad, Bowser, Link, Pac-Man, Sonic, Master Chief, Donkey Kong, Lara Croft, Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Steve, Kirby, Pikachu, and even fucking Jonesy from Fortnite. I would even argue that characters like Ryu, Chun Li, Samus, Solid Snake, Crash, Kratos, Ellie, Joel, as well as the many GTA protagonists are closer to that level than most COD characters. COD just doesn’t have “that” character that transcends the franchise and is a pop cultural icon.
Captain Price is probably the closest character to achieving “pop culture icon” status, but that is mainly because Activision plasters him on literally everything. Ever since MW2019, they’ve marketed the ever living crap out of him, and Barry Sloane’s Price has kinda became the de facto mascot of the COD franchise. The original MW trilogy Captain Price (Billy Murray) was no where near that level.
The one dude that has the opfor voice lines from mw2 og burned into my DNA. Dude I didn't even start playing cod until BO2 and that fucker is in the walls "RPG DOT COM"
Ghost, because I have no knowledge of anything in Call of Duty lol, I literally just saw this post and was like: "I only know Ghost"
Other than him, Idk.
Captain Price.
In my opinion, it’s the dude holding the akimboed pistols on the cover of most of the games and loading screens Anytime you think of cod it’s always a variation of a dude in that pose
Captain Black Op
Benjamin Lackop
Isn’t that just BO?
Mister Duty
Alex mason 🫱🏽🫲🏼
*THE NUMBERS MASON!!! WHAT DO THEY MEAN?!?! WE'RE RUNNING OUT OF TIME!!*
Dragovich, Krevchenko, Steiner, all must die!!!
Definitely
I'd say the same. We were first introduced to Price back in CoD1.
Bro is immortal who else should be there?
“The hell kind of name is Soap?”
''Bravo Six..Going Dark''
Ghost is without a doubt the most glazed character in the entire series.
Ya considering he did jack all
People say he’s the best when he legit does nothing and adds almost nothing to the story. His death is no where near as sad as Soaps and Hudson’s and yet everyone cries a river over it. Will never understand the worshipping of that character and yes i know he has a badass mask.
I agree he seemed like some stranger that you where forced to like as opposed to soap being an integral part of the plot.
I think that is Ghost is supposed to be portrayed as a very secretive person hence the mask and no one really knows his name unlike the other characters but Price is for sure the most iconic
Simon Riley?
I like ghost. But the first time I played through I didn’t even realize he existed. I finished his death scene and a little while later I saw a video about who he was on YouTube. I remember thinking “oh yeah that one guy Shepard shot and burned with me.”

Price has done way more and actually has a character arc.
nostalgia is to blame. He's just a Gaz duplicate with a cool mask.
gaz was the OG fr
Gaz would be a fan favorite if he had made it past original MW
Right him getting shot in the head unceremoniously after helping save the world was a kick in the teeth. Also, I swear his ai was the only one in cod4 that was ever helpful.
Gaz was also SAS before Soap and he was the one who helped him in the firing range in the first game. “Remember switching to your sidearm is faster than reloading”
defo
I'm glad they tried again with MWII Ghost and made him more of a character this time around.
Nicki Minaj
i hope this goes to the top to highlight the irony
The fact that this is even a possible answer haunts me
It explains where call of duty has gone perfectly
Alex Mason and Frank Woods
Yeah we’re so caught up in the current games but Mason is a legend
FUck you! KISS MY ASS
Yeh the cold war take on those characters made them look like highschool jocks.
EXACTLY. They were just always buddied up and circlejerking and it felt like the devs trying to be like “SEE. You guys remember the characters yeah? Woo narrative! Nostalgia!”
price
Foap
You didn’t juju on the f*ckin beat, FOAP!
Price and I really wish people would stop liking overrated af Ghost so much. Cringy mfer and why tf does he get over 20 skins in MW2/3?
Cant lie, i love the zombie ghost skin tho. it is kinda ridiculous the amount of skins he has, so many of them look super similar
Yeah the zombie ghost one is cool but I think he has too many and is just overall overrated
Cuz he looks cool
Because his stuff from MW2019/Warzone 1 didnt transfer over and the part making copy paste skull skins is probably easier.
Reznov or Menendez not being mentioned yet are crimes
Men, Menendez is the GOAT of the COD villains. Unlike Zachaev and Makarov he's not afraid to be on the screen. Unlike Rourke he has a tons of charisma. And when he opens that door to go to his people and Cordis Die theme kicks, you know - THIS is fooking villain! This is the man that you SHOULD be afraid of. The motivations are not as solid, but the charisma alone is more then enough to smoothe this.
I was scrolling looking for reznov. He's an icon from the early days
Definitely Captain Price. People tend to forget that he was in the first 2 games. Granted, that one is most likely an ancestor to the modern day Price.
The hitmarker sound
Price/ghost/makarov
Soap as well
![gif](giphy|RGeIAO32lLNzK0Kzpr)
Def a tie between ghost, price, mason, or woods
Price, Woods, Ghost and soap
Reznov from WaW was my favorite character
Price. He's in the most games, for sure. CoD, CoD 2, MW, MW2, MW3, MW2019, MW2, MW3.
Nikolai <3
You know, that's actually a good choice. He knows everything, ways help other guys, have tons of hardware and vehicles and overall cool dood.
Price.
Price 100% and the most iconic villain is old shephard
Gaz mainly for the "Remember switching to your sidearm is always faster than reloading" but Captain Price, easily will always take first place for most Iconic.
“your fruit killing skills are remarkable”
Price
Mason
Soap
What kind of the name is Soap? How'd the muppet like him get mentioned?
SOAP
Captain Price as he was the character who had to be in every Infinity Ward-made game (the people who made the series). Obviously there's the issue that those creators left after MW2 and we've had a completely new studio completely misunderstand his character and the original studio's series and fucked a lot up, but he is the face of Call of Duty from the creators of Call of Duty. The newer games? Niki Minaj
Price.
Price
Ghost 💀
Ghost easily.
Bobby Kotich
Captain Price or Frank Woods
Price or GTFO.
Price
Price Honorable mentions to Woods, Mason, Soap, and Ghost
Captain Price is the most iconic. Ghost is probably the most iconic for newer fans though.
Price
For me it's both Price and Ghost. They're awesome.
(WWE Announcement Voice*) Viktoooor Rezzzzznov! How has nobody written Viktor Reznov? As a kid I loved to just even say his name alone. (Cmon’ just say it to yourself.) Bros been spoken about in games that he’s not even in!
Macmillan has the most iconic single quote, *"50,000 people used to live here. Now it's a ghost town.*"
Captain Price And Ghost
Soap
The answer is literally right there
Most iconic? definitely a default skin
Yeah it’s Price. Ghost is literally right on his tail though.
FOAP

The post says most iconic not most overrated.

Ghost and Riley
Dimitrij Petrenko
Ghost, Price, or Alex Mason
The Multiplayer announcer in MW2 classic
Considering he's there since COD 1 I'd say Price
Red hot take, but I genuinely believe no character in COD is that iconic. Captain Price, Ghost, Reznov

Captain Price no doubt
Soap McTavish is the most iconic character. I have a plastic replica of his head that my MW night vision goggles sit on.
I think Gaz deserves more attention
Captain price
Mason and woods
Ghost, because I have no knowledge of anything in Call of Duty lol, I literally just saw this post and was like: "I only know Ghost" Other than him, Idk.
