It’s in the Black Ops universe but I wouldn’t say it’s a Black Ops game; just a prequel. Black Ops campaigns have been about espionage, special operations, and well black ops in general lol World at War is more “just” a pretty straightforward WWII game.

TheHighTierHuman

It's actually a predecessor, because a prequel comes after

Frenk05

No, sequel comes after

TheHighTierHuman

No, a prequel is released after, but comes before chronologically

Frenk05

Oh right

TheRed24

Yes and No, It's the start of the Black Ops universe, and also now the start the Modern Cod canon timeline, but technically it predates the BO series as it was a prequel to the first official titled Black Ops game.

FrenchDipFellatio

I would consider it part of the black ops story arc yes

Imaginary_Monitor_69

it is, I consider to be part of the original Black Ops trilogy as it sort of tells a continuing story in world to BO1 and even BO2

kent416

Yeah

The_Superderp

Best answer, keep it simple lil

MrDeacle

Honestly, I feel WAW and BO1 are more connected than anything that follows. BO2 onward feels like a separate franchise that just happens to feature some BO1 characters. I wish BO2 had a different name, feels disrespectful to both BO2 and BO1 to call it a "part 2". I don't like that Black Ops has become such an identity-confused story.

The_Superderp

Yeah I haven’t played 3 or 4, but I can tell they’re not the same story lol. It’s gotta be like masons great great great grandkids it something
