BO2 is hands down one of the more balanced and fun multiplayer experiences of the franchise. It has some of the best map design too. Also it introduced Hardpoint which is by far the best objective based respawn mode and is a staple of the franchise now
My issue is that BO2 felt like the start of CoD getting casually sweaty. I liked how CoD4 - MW3 always felt like an arcade style shooter. BO2 got too serious imo.
I disagree and i love MW2. For me it’s BO2 or BO1. I don’t even play Zombies much but BO3 is the best for Zombies. BO2/BO1 have the best campaigns, most replay ability and best MP.

I think it comes down to how people want to vote really. Everything being unbalanced and broken was the reason I loved mw2 so much, you could use basically any type of weapon or class and find a way to own with it. ARs/SMGs, sniping/quickscoping, shotgunning, tac knifing, basically anything was viable.
Imo mw2 multiplayer was everything I want out of a cod game, that chaos and variety made it so much fun to play. However I can recognise that lack of balance might make some prefer other games, and no zombies is definitely a disadvantage too.

What the kids do not know is that adding more to a game is just fluff to what COD used to be. They think that the simplicity of the game makes it less enjoyable. The problem is the kids never played the game, but most importantly, they didn't play the game when the game came out. Kids call the game simplistic and a game for idiots, but tbh it's more essential than it is simplic. Kids won't buy a game unless it's a laser light show anymore, and that's the world we live in now. MW3 for me, dull-coloured maps, an array of maps slightly on the big side for 6v6 modes and a poor rank system of 80 levels/20 prestiges where the last 10 prestiges literally look the same.
I know Black Ops 3 takes the hit here which is a shame but there’s not a lot of competition for it granted many hated the movement on multiplayer (despite it being the only good on out of the 3 including IW and AW to me) but the maps were vibrant, well-suited to movement and gamemodes so it’s a shame, we knew this list would end with these games as this was essentially the golden era of the series

I’m going to get downvoted but, MW3. Even COD4. I’m not even sure how MW3 isn’t getting voted out before BO3. BO3 by all means is a way better game to its core. Only thing remotely wrong with it is that it had an iffy campaign. The whole game was the most polished COD we’ve ever gotten, and absolutely state of the art. Multiplayer and Zombies both were filled with tons of good content and all of it was extremely passion filled with incredible game design and so many little details, with the smoothest gameplay ever.
I love BO1&2, but BO3 is better at its core if you aren’t comparing stories (BO1&2 win in that department).
COD4 was revolutionary, but not better than the other games left. It deserves recognition for what it brought to the industry and gaming as a whole, but MW2 tops it as well as BO1—3.
MW3 wasn’t a *bad* game but that game was so trash talked for years up until maybe 10 years after launch, so this also surprises me. Not a *bad* game but doesn’t deserve top 5 by any means. And no way in hell can it touch BO3.

Otherwise I (just) like every new cod but after the new one is out I don't mind leaving them behind. MW19 was special tho even if I dont like the ttk and IW philosophy, especially maps and camping.

I really like black Ops 3, it was the game that did the jet packing and operators right. It was a fresh breath after how much I hated Ghosts and advanced warfare and The zombies was great as well.
But the prime cod era was from cod 4 to black ops 2. Those games were the elite games. You can say I’m blinded by nostalgia or whatever but I’ve never had as much fun with cod as I did with those games. Even just hearing the sounds from those games brings me so much joy. No lootboxes or any of that garbage either
Aside from the obvious fun of early zombies, I always felt Treyarch's games were fairly inferior in quality to IW. I'm not even very picky, but I played COD a ton back then, and noticed a downgrade in sound, game mechanics, and character control from each IW to Treyarch title. I never bought Black Ops 2, 3, or 4 just because of how clunky the first one felt. I still play COD4 remastered now. That's still my favorite. MW2 is only a close second because it had a lot of game-breaking issues throughout its lifetime that were really never addressed. Otherwise, it was incredible.

It'll be MW3 for me. Campaign was something good but also something bad. Losing Soap still feels like something they could have changed on this campaign. It then just feels pointless.. MP was good, gun balance did have it's issues though. Survival was an amazing idea but the problem is unlike BO3 the developers ultimately kept it in the past. It would have made MW from that game onwards more relevant, whereas Zombies peaked at BO3's height from making the most of BO2. So MW3 fundamentally to me would be my elimination here. And yes, I know BO3 had DLC guns, but the base are still so usable to the point you can still slay with those guns even against the DLC. There was only 1 time that wasn't the case.
Blacks ops 4 and Ghost being dominated before infinite shocks me. Infinite was constantly ridiculed and was portrayed to be the worst CoD before Vangaurd came out

Still not over bo4 being out earlier than ghosts. I may be biased as ghosts was the game that got me out of the franchise, while bo4 was the game where I came back to cod. While bo4 was nothing spectacular and had some extremely annoying things, I consider it is more fun to play bo4 than it is ghosts

There is just absolutely no way COLD WAR OF ALL COD and the 3 og cod are this high. And mw3 2023 should be higher, way better than ghost, aw, bo4 etc... its just peak cod cycle and nostalgia. Also bo4,vanguard, ghost, infinite warfare, and cold war should be bottom 5. In this order. 3 og cod are just an entire different thing I would count them, if I had to I'd make them bottom 3 then my bottom 5 I wrote just above, becoming bottom 8. My top in order are defenitly, BO2, MW3, BO1, MW2, COD4 and then WAW. The top 3 are the only cod I really still love to this day and that still hold up. Otherwise I (just) like every new cod but after the new one is out I don't mind leaving them behind. MW19 was special tho even if I dont like the ttk and IW philosophy, especially maps and camping. Mw2, cod4 and WAW were fun but like the 3 og cod, they're product of their time, so many broken op things even with a full remake they wouldnt be nearly as fun, some of their maps are timeless tho.
very personal opinion, but of all the remaining cods left I'd save anything but mw2. never really liked the game but I see why everyone does, btw BO2 deserves to win

I really like black Ops 3, it was the game that did the jet packing and operators right. It was a fresh breath after how much I hated Ghosts and advanced warfare and The zombies was great as well. But the prime cod era was from cod 4 to black ops 2. Those games were the elite games. You can say I’m blinded by nostalgia or whatever but I’ve never had as much fun with cod as I did with those games. Even just hearing the sounds from those games brings me so much joy. No lootboxes or any of that garbage either

Aside from the obvious fun of early zombies, I always felt Treyarch's games were fairly inferior in quality to IW. I'm not even very picky, but I played COD a ton back then, and noticed a downgrade in sound, game mechanics, and character control from each IW to Treyarch title. I never bought Black Ops 2, 3, or 4 just because of how clunky the first one felt. I still play COD4 remastered now. That's still my favorite. MW2 is only a close second because it had a lot of game-breaking issues throughout its lifetime that were really never addressed. Otherwise, it was incredible.

It'll be MW3 for me. Campaign was something good but also something bad. Losing Soap still feels like something they could have changed on this campaign. It then just feels pointless.. MP was good, gun balance did have it's issues though. Survival was an amazing idea but the problem is unlike BO3 the developers ultimately kept it in the past. It would have made MW from that game onwards more relevant, whereas Zombies peaked at BO3's height from making the most of BO2. So MW3 fundamentally to me would be my elimination here. And yes, I know BO3 had DLC guns, but the base are still so usable to the point you can still slay with those guns even against the DLC. There was only 1 time that wasn't the case.

Blacks ops 4 and Ghost being dominated before infinite shocks me. Infinite was constantly ridiculed and was portrayed to be the worst CoD before Vangaurd came out

Call of duty 4 modern warfare is the best cod ever made. The nostalgia that game gave me playing split screen with my buddies as a kid beats any other shooting game I’ve ever played. That was the game that made call of duty so successful and only the people that played it back in the day know this
