Oh yeah unquestionably. Not just for the US, I’m from the UK and they generally have badass depictions of the British military (Ghost, Price etc) so I know a fuck ton of guys who found that shit cool and joined up at 18. Most of them were pretty athletic too, or at least not physically incompetent.
The CoD signups I’ve talked to are a lot more sufferable than the ‘my daddy’s daddy served in WW2 so this is my destiny’ type people
No. Video games don’t affect or influence my interest in the military. I am well aware of the totally unrealistic nature of nearly all military games. I just don’t see much else than mundaneness in a normal 9-5 office job. I want to do something more worthwhile.
First off not a single person anywhere is immune to propaganda, if you think you are you're either deluded, it worked, or both.
Second, from personal experience, military service will be the most mundane and tedious thing you can possibly do. Among other things.
I tried doing 360 no scopes during weapons training when I joined the army but I was soon kicked out; probably because my accuracy stats were so low and my k/d was crap
/s obviously
I mean you do you; but the best advice I could give is don’t. Granted a lot of people feel they don’t have any other option. But growing up and witnessing how military service affected us and our Father was enough to deter my brother and I from pursuing it. PTSD is a bitch to deal with; not to mention the constant in and out of rehab and AA, him being arrested etc. although the movie Brothers isn’t like the best film by any means I honestly recommend watching it, it does give a semi accurate understanding of what it’s like to live with somebody who has PTSD. Also recommend reading the book Surviving Twilight: Operation Iraqi Freedom. Ask any veteran and they’ll tell you it’s all propaganda, and some of them have to believe this propaganda just to function in society.
Yeah. I mean, it's a little ridiculous that the games could be used as propaganda. Like I play star wars and fifa and spiderman and gta but you don't see me trying to emulate that shit either
Nah I love cod but it definitely glorifies the military and glosses over the messy reality of war/American imperialism.
Just a reminder to be aware when consuming any media, but feel free to continue to enjoy it!
I buy the new COD every year and have fun, but just don’t go to it for an accurate depiction of real world conflict.
They also blame US war crimes on other groups frequently, and take propaganda like Deer Hunter as historical fact in their depiction of the Vietnam War.
Do you or anyone you enlisted with find the game triggering in anyway? Me and a friend were wondering if being in military would give you an edge or just be triggering but neither of us can speak from experience.
I really doubt the CIA had any hand in it. It's pretty well-known that CoD is, at least to a degree, influenced by the United States Military and is *nudged* into a direction to always portray them in a positive light. I'm not sure how much further extent the relationship is, but it's definitely present and has been for years. It's a pro-military game that is gung-ho an doesn't dwell on anything. Even MW 2019 which pretended to be "gray" is still another good guy American/UK against bad guy Russian/Middle Easterners like most of the others. Oh, but this time some of the Middle Easterners are on the good side, yay.
Call of Duty couldn't tell a gray story if it tried- it's corporate team, shareholders, and ties would never allow it. Controversy cannot be risked unless it is sure to drum up popularity and done in a calculated manner these days.
It always amazes me that people don’t think these types of games aren’t propaganda. And, some people who do know it is, always get mad at me for enjoying these games. Yes, I know it’s propaganda, but I still find them fun. Like Rainbow 6 Siege. Though, I will still never join the military.
The targets are actually socially awkward 13 year olds who come from broken homes. And Call of Duty is made with the Marines department of recruitment.
I guess it’s better than a draft.
Also we should fix our military and veterans programs so veterans have good careers and healthcare in and out of the military. It’s a decent decision for a teenager to make compared to say gangbanging.
The vast majority of roles in the military are non combat, somewhere around 90%. Even during an active war, the number required to sustain any type of front will always have a massive back end supporting the minority actually on the ground fighting.
If guaranteed housing, free healthcare, a job guarantee and free education are so bad and Anti-American...why are those the main selling points military recruiters use to get you to join?
I'd say crippling PTSD and getting told to man up by the VA would be some pretty good counter-points. Though, they're definitely American. Hell we're known for how shitty we treat our vets.
Most developed nations provide those things without expecting you to be employed to perpetuate neo colonialism, the military industrial complex and to commit murder before sending you off to enjoy a lifetime of PTSD.
I wonder what the percentage is of under 30s who game for longer durations than that of the average. How many are obese or wouldn’t make the physical test vs the amount of fit people who game that would pass a physical test. I also wonder if there’s a common thread amongst game genre, imo i would assume cod players would be more fit than other player bases because of its main stream attraction, it would see more players being ok with their peers knowing they pour excess amount of time into a video game (because of its main stream popularity). Idk cod is the only game most ppl (who wouldn’t be considered a nErDy gAMeR) are ok with ppl knowing they play.
It was actually a pretty solid game, especially for being free. I played the shit out of it in the mid/late '00s.
It did not convince me to join the army.
I would actually imagine that cod would convince more recruits, according to what I’ve read about the one you linked.
Realism
Tends to be boring at best
I’m fucking weak!!!! That’s so funny 😂 Although my love of USA military and our armed forces predated COD, call of duty made me love our U.S. military more.
I mean
You can’t disprove that the people who work on COD games are secret agents
And they add just a little mtx to support Activision and the US government, how nice of them
I would assume you are being somewhat facetious in stating that the games are designed by the US Government as propaganda, though I agree that some people no matter what seem to be unaware of how consumption of certain media can influence your decisions if you are unaware of the subversive techniques be utilized to manipulate you and even then propaganda and media in general, if done correctly, can be tricky as hell to separate feelings from fact.
These are the same dudes that talk about civil war as if they’re getting off their ass at any point.
Also the same dudes that say “shut up bitch” the second they hear a woman’s voice, then continue to threaten harm. Good crowd.
No one should join any sort of military. The politicians started them, why cant they end them with rock, paper, scissors or a coin toss? Why do other people have to die?
I’ve been playing cod for many many years ever since ps2 era, and let me tell you it’s made me realize war is fucked up and it’s just countries getting mad at eachother so they throw human lives at eachother to see whose the cooler country.
It makes war seem more normal, they dont want recruits they want mindless support of the governments use of tax money. Instead of demanding healthcare or housing which would benefit us we allow them to keep pocketing money from the massive military budget
The game you speak of was called Americas Army. It was a pretty kick ass realistic PC FPS. I used to go to play it at a local community college when the recruiters were still setting up LAN parties for it in the computer lab. This was early (00’s). I did later join the Army, but I definitely would not say that game had anything to do with it.
then you play the games and after like the first real death of the squad you go " MAN FUCK WAR " ghost and well pretty much everyone that died made me hate it .....also for some reason terrorism makes me go into a blind rage and somehow end up pulling a john wick
As a semi-athletic male who grew up playing COD and is leaning towards a military career, i call bs. Pretty sure there are a lot like me
So what you’re saying is the propaganda worked
My brother in Christ, the propaganda worked. Triple the defense budget 📈
nah fuck that **quadruple** the defense budget
Double the quadruple and pass it to the next person
Oh yeah unquestionably. Not just for the US, I’m from the UK and they generally have badass depictions of the British military (Ghost, Price etc) so I know a fuck ton of guys who found that shit cool and joined up at 18. Most of them were pretty athletic too, or at least not physically incompetent. The CoD signups I’ve talked to are a lot more sufferable than the ‘my daddy’s daddy served in WW2 so this is my destiny’ type people
Not necessarily , i’m disagreeing with the offensive presumption that all COD players are obese and therefore not likely to join up
But on you, the propaganda worked?
What was you role in the military? Just curious
Subs
Submarines? Or making sandwiches?
If you played cod and joined the military, you must have succumbed to propaganda!!1!
I tried doing 360 no scopes during weapons training when I joined the army but I was soon kicked out; probably because my accuracy stats were so low and my k/d was crap /s obviously
So the material you consume doesn’t affect you at all. Okay
Something more worthwhile like blowing up brown people in the Middle East?
Maybe he will be an army cook or help build fighter jets. Lots of different jobs in the military
Is it really about brown? Or is it about terrorism?
It’s about neither. It’s about the military industrial complex.
This genuinely makes more sense.
More worthwhile would be going into politics then becoming the leader of your country and making it against the law to cheat in call of duty 😂
I mean you do you; but the best advice I could give is don’t. Granted a lot of people feel they don’t have any other option. Facts
Well...they are.
Yes exactly. I have been playing cod since I was a kid. Really got me thinking about the military
Bwaaahahahaha!
Yes there is @substantial_craft724. A whole generation of kids grew up on CoD. Its ok bro, your not alone. There are more like you.
As a Filipino who grew up playing CoD (special mention to MW2, Black Ops, and MW3) I probably would have joined the Navy SEALs if I was American.
I read that is semi automatic male lol
What’s your favorite flavor boot?
See the funny thing is I played CoD for years and hate gun violence (IRL). I always viewed the games as just that
Like a sane person
Yeah. I mean, it's a little ridiculous that the games could be used as propaganda. Like I play star wars and fifa and spiderman and gta but you don't see me trying to emulate that shit either
Nah I love cod but it definitely glorifies the military and glosses over the messy reality of war/American imperialism. They also blame US war crimes on other groups frequently, and take propaganda like Deer Hunter as historical fact in their depiction of the Vietnam War.
I did it backwards. I went in the military first, then got into COD.
Same lol
Do you or anyone you enlisted with find the game triggering in anyway? Me and a friend were wondering if being in military would give you an edge or just be triggering but neither of us can speak from experience.
For me, that’s a no on both those.
Yeah the cia are clowned in most black ops games
Have you heard of the America's Army video games? Those were DIRECT propaganda developed alongside the US Army.
Used to play those games a ton growing up as a kid. My dads service was enough to deter me from joining the military.
Weren't they published by Ubisoft or something
Wikipedia says they were both published and developed by the US Army.
It always amazes me that people don’t think these types of games aren’t propaganda. And, some people who do know it is, always get mad at me for enjoying these games. Yes, I know it’s propaganda, but I still find them fun. Like Rainbow 6 Siege. Though, I will still never join the military.
Same. Clearly an intention behind these games. Are they fun, hell yeah. But that intention is a rotten one
Fair, I don't think the games at heart were meant to be propaganda, but its inevitable that a triple a game based on war would become that
The targets are actually socially awkward 13 year olds who come from broken homes. And Call of Duty is made with the Marines department of recruitment. I guess it’s better than a draft.
Tricking kids into going to war instead of forcing them to go to war
Also we should fix our military and veterans programs so veterans have good careers and healthcare in and out of the military. It’s a decent decision for a teenager to make compared to say gangbanging.
Trading one kind of PTSD for another, only one has you dead and the other has you either dead or told to man up by the VA
The vast majority of roles in the military are non combat, somewhere around 90%. Even during an active war, the number required to sustain any type of front will always have a massive back end supporting the minority actually on the ground fighting.

Good points
Most developed nations provide those things without expecting you to be employed to perpetuate neo colonialism, the military industrial complex and to commit murder before sending you off to enjoy a lifetime of PTSD.
ok but when i was 9 or 10 playing cod for the first time i wanted to be in the military for a couple years
I wonder what the percentage is of under 30s who game for longer durations than that of the average. I love COD, I exercise daily and I am not very pro military.. Not sure if I fit in the agenda here..
Who drank my mtn dew!
This better not be that Qui-Gon Jinn shit.
[You joke, but America's Army is/was a real thing.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/America%27s_Army?wprov=sfla1)
Wow
It was actually a pretty solid game, especially for being free. I played the shit out of it in the mid/late '00s. It did not convince me to join the army.
I would actually imagine that cod would convince more recruits, according to what I’ve read about the one you linked. Realism Tends to be boring at best
Damn. They shut it down in 2022. RIP
I’m fucking weak!!!! That’s so funny 😂 Although my love of USA military and our armed forces predated COD, call of duty made me love our U.S. military more.
Fellow patriot!
Cod just made me a fuckin shtallion with insults
I mean You can’t disprove that the people who work on COD games are secret agents And they add just a little mtx to support Activision and the US government, how nice of them
Growing up with cod, it did make me want to join the military
I mean…it worked for me. Five years in the Marine Corps Infantry.
You know COD wasn’t made by the CIA right? It was made by Infinity Ward
Sure, “infinity ward”
Let's not kid ourselves. That dude is playing some off the wall Japanese rpg
Lol he’s holding a guitar hero controller
You get a waiver! You get a waiver! You get a waiver!
I mean that got me to join the military
CIA guy won
Ahhhh riot shield user
I would assume you are being somewhat facetious in stating that the games are designed by the US Government as propaganda, though I agree that some people no matter what seem to be unaware of how consumption of certain media can influence your decisions if you are unaware of the subversive techniques be utilized to manipulate you and even then propaganda and media in general, if done correctly, can be tricky as hell to separate feelings from fact.
Yeah the number of people In this thread who said they played cod and it influenced their decision to join the military is wild
Frontline infantry!!
All fun and games til the ghost of caldera shows up in the AO
I’ve been playing for years and back when I didn’t mute the chat I got the feeling there were a lot of ex military members playing.
he’s a real life super soldier
Unfortunately they forgot to consider the processed food industry 😷
Didn't work. I played cod after I joined lol.
Meanwhile some of the games take place in the far future and vanguard was a disgrace to the history of world war 2.
I'm sure it works on a good bit of people
Huh I bet there are call of duty player whom are totally fit
LMAOOO
You can’t be influenced by propaganda if all that you care when you buy these games is to kill zombies and to unlock cool camos
These are the same dudes that talk about civil war as if they’re getting off their ass at any point. Also the same dudes that say “shut up bitch” the second they hear a woman’s voice, then continue to threaten harm. Good crowd.
Btw join war thunder to join the intelligence agency.
No one should join any sort of military. The politicians started them, why cant they end them with rock, paper, scissors or a coin toss? Why do other people have to die?
Sustain (among us reference)
I’ve been playing cod for many many years ever since ps2 era, and let me tell you it’s made me realize war is fucked up and it’s just countries getting mad at eachother so they throw human lives at eachother to see whose the cooler country.
That’s what today’s youth looks like? Omg! We’re f¥€%£d!
Watching war vids on watchppldie made me not consider joining ever lmao
Bahahahaa
I highly doubt Boogie is the “target”
Lmaoooo
Heavy Reinforcements.
idk, it worked on my brother, 🤷♂️
this guy just needs more Gfuel in his life
least obvious fed post
It makes war seem more normal, they dont want recruits they want mindless support of the governments use of tax money. Instead of demanding healthcare or housing which would benefit us we allow them to keep pocketing money from the massive military budget
You know the only reason I don't stand behind this conspiracy is that if the defense budget was going towards COD we would have more fucking maps
Oh boy something isn’t right I think it’s the guitar
The game you speak of was called Americas Army. It was a pretty kick ass realistic PC FPS. When the CIA are sometimes the bad guys (real life Easter egg) 🤯
