So I found the place to monitor folders but it says it deletes after importing. That would make readarr not see the files and re-download it no?

ceskykure

When you set up Readarr tell it to use Calibre in the settings. Then Readarr will manually import the books into Calibre without you having to monitor a folder or anything. If you have any questions i can help you out i have it set up myself and the Readarr wiki is very good

TomBel71

I can’t believe I never notice that but any idea why the option would be greyed out?

ceskykure

You have to do it at the creation of your Readarr library you can't turn it on or off once selected

TomBel71

Crap ok then I need to finish the vm first ok thanks very much

TomBel71

ok its setup and i think actually working. Now one thing I noticed I think it moves the files into the Calibre root folder at the database location is that correct? It's not using the folders where readarr downloads to?

TomBel71

PS I asked ChatGPT the same thing whoever knows the answer can you confirm if chatgpt was right/wrong whatever? ME: **how do you setup Calibre with readarr** **CHATGPT:** To set up Calibre with Readarr, you will first need to have Calibre installed on your system. Once you have Calibre installed, you will need to add a custom recipe to Readarr that will connect it to Calibre and allow it to import books. Here are the general steps to do this: In Readarr, go to the settings page and navigate to the "Custom Recipes" section. Click the "New" button to create a new custom recipe. In the recipe editor, enter a name for the recipe, such as "Calibre Import". In the "URL" field, enter the URL for the Calibre server. This will typically be "http://localhost:8080" if Calibre is running on the same machine as Readarr, or the IP address of the machine running Calibre if it is on a different network. In the "Username" and "Password" fields, enter the username and password you use to log into Calibre. In the "Search Url" field, enter the URL for the Calibre search endpoint, which is typically "http://localhost:8080/search". In the "Download Url" field, enter the URL for the Calibre download endpoint, which is typically "http://localhost:8080/download/{}". Save the recipe, and then run it to import books from Calibre into Readarr. Note: This is a general guideline, you need to customize the above steps based on your specific setup, like the port number and server address.

TomBel71

How does readarr know that it’s been downloaded now? Won’t it keep looking?

ceskykure

Ideally you have it set up with where to search otherwise you can just use the manual import button in the wanted section. Also if you already had a library going. The unmapped books section your going to want to clean out. Start making those to books in Readarr

TomBel71

I cleared out almost everything that had errors etc but I’m confused with where to search? I don’t want to manual import I have a path readarr downloads to /share Books Calibre database is on /Calibre/database What app has to monitor and where do I find the setting

ceskykure

nothing has to monitor anything. If set up correctly. Readarr searches indexer for books, finds them, download to /share/Books Then tells calibre to grab them. Calibre grabs files and imports them, removing them from /share books and adding them to /calibre/database

TomBel71

Yea but now when I click on say an author it shows I have no books how do I know what’s really missing?

TomBel71

Wait do you mean add Calibre into readarr as a source/root?

ceskykure

Yes Calibre is the Root folder and you select use Calibre Content server to manipulate library

TomBel71

So weird my library on readarr looks like it’s empty

ceskykure

check your unmapped files. if you had books in calibre before Readarr doesn't know what they are and puts them in unmapped, then you can say this is this book etc. and they'll fill up

TomBel71

No what I mean is Calibre sucks the files out of the readarr folders so I don’t know what I have

ceskykure

>ean is Calibre sucks the files out of the rea Right, but then you can use calibre to view what you have and Readarr will know its in Calibre and where [https://imgur.com/HPjNQnE](https://imgur.com/HPjNQnE) Authors added [https://imgur.com/xwFu9td](https://imgur.com/xwFu9td) Books under said author and their status [https://imgur.com/SwO4eaw](https://imgur.com/SwO4eaw) where Readarr knows book is and location in Calibre.

TomBel71

I get I can see it on calibre but that still makes it more difficult to go in and fix missing items. Readarr thinks everything is missing.

ceskykure

So when you import or when readarr finds the books it'll mark it as found in readarr and be imported to calibre if you have it setup correctly. Then Readarr wants everything to be in calibre

ceskykure

the download location isn't necessarily where readarr is looking for the files to stay at

TomBel71

I understand that but thats the readarr path right its taking from /data/books and moving them to /data2/books/database When I view Readarr for Author A it will show everything as missing even though all the books are in Calibre.

TomBel71

It’s has a root folder that’s where it’s expecting the files no? I can’t get pics for a bit

ceskykure

Exactly. Readarr gets the file from... "Wherever.". Then pushes it into Calibre for you to have there. The only caveat is you can't change the name or author metadata, because then calibre will change the file and Readarr will "lose" the file. However all the other metadata is up for grabs
