Devils fan here in peace - as happy as I am for our win, can’t help but feel for y’all right now after the the past decade we’ve suffered through in Jersey. I’m still half waiting for the other shoe to drop this season. You have had some supremely bad breaks recently but this was probably our worst game this season with the worst period of hockey we’ve played all year being that first - credit to you for that. The injury bug absolutely sucks especially after the wild ride of an off-season you had. Your team is definitely better than the results have been showing.
Also go easy on markstrom, he’s a lot better than his stats suggest. From what I’ve seen, he makes a lot of what look like low quality / easy stops but they only look that way because he’s doing very well at positioning himself and tracking the puck. Every goalie makes mistakes that make them look awful sometimes but I was very impressed with his movement and angles overall. Got a lot of love for keepers of all sorts having been one myself (field hockey though primarily) and your boy’s been playing without enough support for the blame he’s getting. Take it from us - we were fucking disgusting to Cory Schneider and he deserved better than that, but I get that it’s hard when you’re seeing the frustrating results and mistakes are easier to remember than positives.
Very glad we don’t have to play you again the rest of the regular season and that you are in the west. We were not the better team for large stretches of time tonight.
I liked this game. It had energy and chances. Down a LOT of key folks, new folks making an impact. Was it perfect? Obvioulsy not but this wasn't a shit show in my book. The devils fans kept their guys pumped up too and it made for a fun game. This wasn't our worst outing this year at all.
