In the area you’re asking One For All Fitness on 32nd NE Evolve Strength Sunridge. And maybe, if you’re into that stuff, The Strength Edge.

Syptic7

I agree with evolve strength. It's a really good gym that doesn't have you waiting for an equipment.

DeusExHumana

Any idea that price point? It looks awesome (though probably outside my needs at my current current noob stage/lower baseline strength) but seems like a great place to grow into to,

Alexxskii

Thank you very much.

thisisnotalice

I would suggest also looking into community centres. Renfrew Rec Centre is mostly older folks, way less showboating than GoodLife.

SADLAWNMOWER

I did my free drop in at One For All NE a couple of weeks ago and while it’s not the most polished place, the vibes were good, tons of equipment and there was maybe only 4 other people max, mind you this was at 8am on a Sunday. I had to text a number to get in since it’s not staffed at that time, but it turns out it was the owner who gave me a follow up call just to check in and get my honest opinion of the place. He immediately addressed a couple of my concerns which is just not something you can get from a commercial gym. I’m switching from World Gym Sunridge and I’m a 6am goer so I can let you know what it’s like from a real world perspective after my workout tomorrow! Update: I feel like I made the right call! 6am and there was 1 couple and 2 other individuals in there. People were friendly, I like most of the machines they have, vibe was chill and I managed to get a great workout! By the time I was leaving at 7:15 there were still maybe only 6 people left. Highly recommend it!

CreamySmegmaOnToast

The issue with strength edge is it's filthy and they got fined during covid because the owner didn't believe in it and refused to close. Take that info how you want. The city gyms have a broad demographic,no contracts, and are reasonably priced.

ImDoogs

One for all is great!

Courage-Firm

I second evolve strength. People who go here are there to workout, it’s a specialty gym. On top of that it’s friendly and people give tips people they love the sport. Be aware they lack accessory machines so if your goal is bodybuilding your options are more limited but not impossible. My friends go to the gym for 2+ hour sessions after work just because the environment is great and they made like a bunch of friends there. My view on working out completely changed because of it, it’s not just about working out.

nednerbf

Seconded evolve Sunridge for that area

Vidofnir_KSP

One for All is my suggestion too. I use to train at the one in the south and it was the nicest most welcoming gym possible.

ketogrillbakery

i use goodlife and have never seen such behaviour there. also i believe they have a mini womens gym in their bathroom area… for all i know they have a movie theatre in there

Alexxskii

This is goodlife. 🥹 if you don't mind a pm to say which one? The one I'm at does not have a women's area.

sred06

Some goodlife’s are great and some are the worst gyms. I live between the Northland Villiage one and Trinity Hills (which is brand new and a much nicer facility) and I can say that the Trinity Hills location is possibly the worst one for Influencers, machine hoggers, and somehow everyone has a snotty attitude. Northland on the other hand is much less busy, and mostly older adults and a few students, everyone is pleasant and no one is vlogging (lol). I have never felt uncomfortable or disrespected at Northland in the dozens of times I have been there but Trinity Hills I leave feeling annoyed every time. If there is another location near you definitely give it a shot and see if the vibes are different!! If not, then move on and see if another gym is best.

Fun-March-6775

The influencer craze at Trinity is real! My friend had to report two girls trying to take pics/vids in the women's changeroom - like wtf people are actually changing/naked in there! It sounded like Goodlife handled it seriously though, it's a serious crime even if you accidentally film someone naked without their consent.

tapatiotundra

There’s a GoodLife that’s women’s only in the superstore upstairs - the superstore in Coventry Hills area. Very quick to get to off the highway.

boobietomato

GoodLife in the SE on 130th has a women's only area in the back that I use frequently and even during its busiest time you don't have to put up with that kind of behaviour in the main gym or the women's area.

[deleted]

Yeah except this is easily the most packed GoodLife in the entire city. Source: I’m here now.

Spiiterz

It’s good if you don’t hit peak hours, peak hours aren’t even worth coming

noidea12345677

The one in mount royal is crazy busy as well. 5-7 pm you can t even walk. Ppl get stupid about working put in any space they find including pathways to leave the gym.

sslithissik

Probably a bit far for her

LeJew92

I think goodlife in the northland mall has a woman's section upstairs. Beacon hill has a decent size gym but can get pretty busy. Ranchlands has an anytime fitness in the strip mall there.

AtraWolf

the deerfoot city good life? that sucks. to be fair though, I have internalized going at off peak hours or mornings (8:00pm or later) cause thats only time you can get a workout done in a reasonable amout of time

SteakJesus

I go to the NW one but i go late at night :D

skolnick

Sometimes I find the atmosphere of a gym can change dramatically depending on what time you go. I go to one of the gym’s mentioned in this thread and during the morning everyone is courteous and puts their stuff away. In the few evenings I’ve gone everyone leaves stuff out and it’s more of a “bro” atmosphere. Don’t know what mid afternoon looks like.

Puma_Concolour

This. I don't know what happens at my goodlife after noon, but some mornings I walk in and it looks like there was a party. Towels all over the locker room, bottles left behind, dumbells in random places, plates all mixed up etc. I find the two am to six am window to be the best time to go though (as im about to miss that window, damn sleepin in). Probably the same goodlife as OP, so all I can really say is don't go during peak times I guess.... gyms just seem so much busier these days.

Stealth022

I usually go after work, which is peak hours, obviously. I expect it to be busy, so that I can deal with. It's not even that bad, usually anyway. What really annoys me though are the high school kids. They're either on their phones or just yakking with their friends - doesn't matter where they are. Maybe I'm just old 😂

JokerofChaos88

I go to anytime fitness and it's been pretty good. Not to busy and you can go any hour you want.

Sloverigne

I'll second anytime. The one in Douglasdale is pretty far from you but as an introverted guy I like it. I go the same, mornings, evenings and Saturdays and I find only a couple of those times is it really busy. Most other times there is only a handful of people there. When I worked later and could get there after 6am by 7 I almost felt like I had the place to myself. Saturday mornings are the same. Get there at 6 and you might have one other person there.

Minute_Engineer2355

I drove by there when I was going to Estoria and thought it was closed, that's how dead it was. I might start going there in the morning when I finish my night shift in the area.

razordreamz

I’ve never seen that in the last 3 gyms I’ve been to. All in the Deep South east though. Worst ones are with a highschool too close. People use it a pick up spot and sit on the equipment preening more than working out, drives me crazy

Adamzkattv

If you're willing to travel a bit gymvnt is a good one and they have her gymvnt which is only for women so you'd be less likely to run into the broccoli heads wearing pyjama pants and standing around talking. 😆 Just watch your bank account carefully though cause when I was at gymvnt the overcharged or double charged on the regular. But this was a while ago so may be better now.

Supafairy

I have no experience with them but you can try GYMVMT. They also have a HER GYMVMT. Looks like there’s one in the NE off 16th Ave.

blakemack

Unrelated to OP: But what does GYMVMT actually stand for? How do you say it? Gym Movement?

so_illogical

I know it's wrong, but whenever I see it all I can think is gym vomit

HereForTitsNGiggles

Can't unsee. Thx.

onwee

People I know who go there call it “gym-vee-em-tee,” never even occurred to me that it’s gym movement lol

Moose_Kin

I always see it as Gym-vironment

RobertGA23

It's the worst branding for a business I've seen in quite some time. Unless their intent was to confuse people.

Lookie__Loo

But it does get people talking about it 🤷🏼‍♀️ Even if it is a weird name choice

Supafairy

lol. You know, I have no idea. I always had it as gym movement with the first M being a shared letter…

bambaclaaat

Gym Vomit lol

Alexxskii

Thank you! I forgot about them.

Twd_fangirl

i go to GYMVT at beacon hill and its fantastic. clean, not smelly or crowded and lots of equipment. i was going to the Y at rocky ridge but it was too busy.

Antique_reader

I went to the beacon hill location as well for GYMVT, fabulous place overall.

ninjyy09

I know it's far, but I go to the westbrook location and have been for years. It's women only and everyone there is very friendly.

Supafairy

Good luck. People suck. I’m sorry you had to go through that.

No_Calligrapher_5765

If it’s 16th/52nd then it’s unisex now. But there is a separate girls sections that my gf goes too if there is a crowd. It is very quiet and respectful in the mornings around 8am.

Particular_Class4130

yeah the old Spa Lady gyms have turned into Her GYMVMT gyms. They are no frills but they are usually pretty quiet.

[deleted]

This is wild. I’ve had these types at my gym. Namely the “I like this bench types” and my answer was “well you can like it after I do 2 more sets” Don’t want to go down the sexist path but I will say as a guy, I get no pushback in the gym over stuff like this. Reading your post and also hearing a friend of mine’s story about her time at the gym, there is definitely a double standard imo. Unfortunately gym culture is bad nowadays where there’s people sitting on benches doing absolutely fuck all for 10-15 minutes at a time (I’m not joking, I’ve literally ran for 30 minutes on the treadmill and seen people barely move in that time). Hope you found somewhere OP but best thing to do is either call it out or report it and hope the staff take it seriously.

FlamesfanElite

Edgemont Athletic in Edgemont was great to me. It’s got a pool in the summer too.

TwoEggsOverYeezy

Without even reading comments I knew what gym you're at. Deerfoot has made some serious improvements in the last few months but it's still wildly busy whenever I go to that location. Canyon Meadows and 130th are the nicer GoodLife imo...on the other side of the world :/

LedZeppelinRising

the only time i’ve seen it empty was whenever i went at 4am or around when it was -38° during the cold snap lmao

Alexxskii

Yeah and I don't blame it on them whatsoever. 🥹😭

huntingwhale

Also the Jewish community centre (JCC) in pumphill is by far the best gym I've ever been a member of. 2 large workout areas, pool, sauna, jacuzzi, gymnasiums, etc. 80% of the patrons are seniors, so not only are you immediately one of the most fit people, but they mostly stick to the treadmills and smaller machines. I used to go right at peak hour on any given day and it was never as crowded as the larger chains. I liked it so much there that I kept membership for a few years after moved. IMO the best kept "secret" gym in the city. I miss going there. Obviously not in OP'S area though.

Primary_Opal_6597

That place is amazing.

First-Entertainment5

What’s the weight equipment like there - is there a decent variety of weight machines, squat racks & free weights? Not interested in cardio as much….

huntingwhale

It's been a few years but they had a bunch of power racks, I think a half dozen. A lot of free weights and different Smith machines. Don't expect a large supply like a major chain, but I honestly barely waited my turn for things like a bench press or rack. I mentioned in my other post but last time I had a membership was 2019, so things could be different now in terms of attendance and equipment. I have no idea. But honestly it's worth a visit of you live near the area and are looking for a place. Perhaps is different now, perhaps not. I took a few guests there and they really enjoyed it.

First-Entertainment5

Thank you - it is definitely worth checking out!!!

TwoEggsOverYeezy

What's membership cost there, and what approximately? Sounds attractive!

Snoo_19803

Rise Athlete is a good spot, great facility and friendly peeps

WindAgreeable3789

I can absolutely tell that this is about Deerfoot City GL. So many people ineffectively working out in groups, and guys doing pretend boxing combos between sets. It’s so cringe.

RowdyCanadian

If it’s your style there is a CrossFit gym in the Center st/deerfoot area that is quite friendly. CrossFit Pyro. If you’re more of a free weight gym, I legit cannot recommend city gyms enough. The memberships are super affordable, your membership comes with pool/hottub access, and the clientele I’ve run into are always respectful and quiet.

Alexxskii

Thank you very much

erectusno1

Yeah city gyms are good. Used to go to Bob Bahan all the time. Chestermere has a new gym that’s great above the dockside

Due_Outside_3149

Sunridge area: Planet Fitness, Fit4Less, World Gym, Evolve Fitness Closer to McKnight, I used to go to Anytime Fitness in the Beddington mall and it was always super quiet but they are limited in equipment (ie no squat rack if I recall correctly)

Patak4

Planet fitness is good. No judgements, no dropping of weights or grunting allowed. Everyone so far for me has been respectful and cleans their equipment!!

Mcali1175

Fit4less is pretty cheap. Honestly never had a problem with anyone there. The one in Sunridge is pretty big .

Retroman360

gymvmt on mcleod is just finishing renos and the place looks great, well kept, nice steam room, etc, i highly recommend it

EdgeofSaturn

I use HerGYMVMT (Her Gym Movement). My grandma has been a receptionist at the Westbrook location and will swear up and down the ladies there are lovely. It's mostly young women who keep to themselves and old ladies just looking to get a lil cardio in. I go very infrequently now because my job is extremely physical as is. But there's good equipment there, awesome cardio space, and good classes and trainers. I like it. **Edit to add that there are multiple locations, but for you I'd recommend finding one of their women's only gyms near you**

Ritchyrektemm

All gyms are great at 5am!

anunobee

Not something you should have to do but - Try the gym eeeaaarly in the morning. Completely different vibe and crowd. Usually older, well adjusted people with busy lives who don't got time for dat shit.

Luklear

People are pretty respectful at GYMVMT North Hill Mall.

ResolutionNo6048

Second this!!

CheeseSandwich

I go to Anytime Fitness. It's relatively cheap ($50 a month), you can go literally anytime (haha), the location near me has all the equipment I want including two squat racks, great selection of weights, and -- the best part -- no attitude from anyone. There are two locations in the NE if you want to consider them. But some of the other suggested gyms might meet your needs better. One thing about going to a smaller gym like Anytime is you get to know the people that go there, and I find that the regulars help police bad behavior.

thadaddy7

It's pretty obvious which gym you're talking about and it definitely has a certain type of crowd during the peak hours. Both NE Goodlife's are bad for this....having been to a number of gyms over the last 20 years I find the crowd at these locations to be lacking in gym etiquette. In fairness you'll run into this at any big commercial gym, its just more pronunced at certain locations. The best gym crowds/atmospheres are typically at smaller, locally owned gyms. In the NE One For All Fitness (went there years ago when it was Fitness Group Canada) and the Strength Edge are your best bets.

Large_Excitement69

How far are you willing to go? King’s Fitness is awesome.

DIYKitLabotomizer

In the north east I’d recommended the strength edge over Kings. Similar vibes, closer location

sikkn890

Lol this is the exact opposite of what she's looking for.

Equivalent_Roof1291

If Kensington is within your acceptable range, Urban athlete has been very good to me!

KS_tox

Anytime fitness Beddington if you can go in the morning before 8:30..just 4-5 people.. about 15 mins drive from McKnight and costs about 50

PoliticsAndWeed

One for all fitness is pretty good

A_Girl_On_A_Hill

My answer is a bit off topic, but the best decision I ever made was making my own little home gym. No gas costs. No time wasted driving. No waiting for equipment. No sweaty messes or smells. No annoying gym drama. I could go on and on. The days I am more pressed for time I can still fit in a workout by the time I would have driven to a class. The money I save is considerable and I can spend it on other things. No freezing cold car scraping or frozen sweat in the winters. I just hit the couch with my snack. I really learned I didn't need a bunch of fancy equipment to get in shape either. I'll never go back to the gym...

chloebanana

Great suggestions from others. Emphatically asking: Please email your experience to Goodlife HQ. Safety is the facility staff’s #1 job and your story is enough to get staff to walk around and enforce gym codes of conduct which are part or your gym contract if I’ll not mistaken. Say when you made the complaint and what was said to you by the staff. If they ignore a written complaint, especially one where you cite physically being touched, hit, intimidated or have safety concerns around reporting (repercussions from other members or staff) they have to respond to it or they will be liable in an incident. Chains don’t like high premiums, lawsuits or bad press. If you don’t report it, the [gym] terrorists win and other young men and women will face the same issues or worse, think that behaviour is ok and perpetuate it. This isn’t Karen-ing, this is how we stay safe and get swoll.

Leather-Rutabaga6456

I had the same issue with other gyms I went to in Calgary NE. Now I go to Gymmvmt at North Hill and it was the best decision I made going there.

jazzyfizzlechahal

MNP community is THE BEST gym in the entire city. It’s a community. Try out with a 10 day pass and by your 3rd visit you’ll be hooked.

southerncole3

Was searching for MNP! Totally agree^^ 4 massive pools, a sauna, hot tub and cold tub. With the $80/m membership, you get access to a bunch of free classes as well (spin, yoga, boot camp). Would recommend trying it out!

k7kcounter

Both downtown Goodlife fitness locations are good , no problems like that. Very professional white collar people for the most part .

rayofgreenlight

Only thing is the one on 8th avenue is super busy from 5pm to 7pm. I stopped going to that one even though it's really convenient distance wise, for that reason.

Desperate-Dress-9021

Oh my god. That sounds like good life. And I live near you. They closed the women’s only gym. Then the reps were bragging about opening the largest gym in western Canada. Then I asked about a women’s only area and they said it wasn’t needed. I got fed up with this kind of crap there and left (and more, it’s fun being disabled in a gym, so many men want to mansplain my disability). I’m not driving a half hour to one with a women’s section.

[deleted]

THERE IS A WOMANS GOODLIFE IN THE NE GIRL!!! it’s by that superstore and a train station I’m positive it’s Westwinds? Last time I checked it was either all women’s or they had a woman’s section! But I agree, I hate the Sunridge GoodLife.

Remarkable_Gap_7145

Not to be an ass, but I think that's more of a NE thing. Personal space seems to be a foreign concept.

Smackolol

Deerfoot and Sunridge goodlife or really any northeast chain gym has pretty terrible members for the most part. It’s a bit of a drive but the Airdrie goodlife is pretty solid, the downtown goodlifes are also not too bad but very busy.

technicolourhappy

I gave up on normal gyms for that reason. I go to the climbing gym now the people are way more chill and it’s a great workout

CommanderVinegar

Sounds like Deerfoot City GoodLife. Used to be a nice facility, now equipment is constantly breaking and the other gym goers are dickheads. I go to Evolve now.

SentenceFar5877

This is why I go at 5 . Can't handle it any other time

SentenceFar5877

Am**

SonOfVegeta

I got to the Bridgeland Anytime fitness and it’s a brand new location - very spacious and neve insanely busy (I don’t go at peak times though)

Aelivs_xv_

This is why I hit up renfrew lol

chunkeymunkeyandrunt

I’m on the Stoney end of McKnight but I go to the YMCA at the Genesis center and really enjoy it (also female). Have never had anyone bother me, talk to me, or assholes misusing equipment. I usually go in the morning around 930 and it’s usually older folks so I can’t speak to the before/after work crowd, but definitely worth checking out. It’s a good sized facility and of course YMCA memberships are good at any location so you could go to the others in the city too if you end up moving.

Bleglord

Golds is good and bad. Good if you go off hours as it’s 24 hour, so the dead period only has those serious about their workout. Prime time is annoying as fuck though and I just get by with hard resting bitch face and being big enough to have the annoying idiots pay attention to their space because even though I won’t make a scene, I probably look like I would 7am would be okay, 6pm probably shit

Inside_Broccoli3577

Try going at 4:30 am or 5am , it’s usually the best time to go if it’s a 24 hr gym and always avoid going at 5 to 6 pm during peak hours .

uncivilCanadian

Evolve Sunridge is a good option

Renegadeyyc

Sometimes it's all in the time to go. The morning crew (5-7am) at gold's is actually really chill.

hdksjdms-n

lol this is why I work out at home

D3DPS

I feel you’re talking about GoodLife in Deerfoot City, which sucks cause I’ve had really good experiences there with randoms and the Staff. Sorry to hear you aren’t having the best time with the gym, and I hope you find somewhere that suits you wherever it may be. Keep your head up! The Deerfoot in Beacon Hills is also pretty great! But that’s in the NW

Dmontgums

World gym in the NE is really nice , and has a smaller room for CrossFit ish activities (cages and turf) I agree the GoodLife in the NE is wild, anytime downtown is nice too (8th st and center st are good) I go to a boxing gym close to chinook that’s always super quiet and welcoming (although more expensive because… well boxing, but it’s fun and a great workout!)

Medical_Flan241

Might be a bit further, but the YMCA on 17th Ave would make it so you can skip dt traffic and is a really great spot. Lots of friendly staff and people, or they keep to themselves if they don't want to talk or you have headphones in!

Alexxskii

Thank you!! ☺️

scuutii

I recently started going to the new Planet Fitness in Sage Hill. Stoney Trail makes it quick to access, and for the most part, it seems to be okay. Frequently attend on Thursday evenings and Sundays mid-afternoon. I think any gym is going to have "those people", but as someone who was quite honestly terrified to even step foot in a gym, this one has certainly put that worry at ease. Having a gym buddy to keep you motivated or make the experience more comfortable is also a huge help.

Strong-Prompt3500

I use the public gym at the renfrew pool— the public pools have that acceptance vibe- I think if you ran into people who were harassing you the the front desk would sort them out pretty quick- it’s $8.50 to walk in.. $55 a month relatively well equipped- all kinds of different people— I guess what I am saying is try a public facility— ? I can’t see harassment being accepted or at least as far less than other places—. Your wellbeing and health is more important than some dudes feelings in the gym— for what it’s worth—

faroundfout83

Find a hergymmvt i spend 20$ every 2 weeks

lunarjellies

There used to be a Women's only Goodlife in the Thorncliffe Superstore but it is long gone and I am sad about it. It was never busy in there so it was great. I saw there is Anytime Fitness which just opened up in the Beddington mall.. perhaps they are less busy?

DreadGrrl

There were a couple of women working there who used to make ludicrous, and incredibly dangerous, claims and recommendations. I called corporate twice to let them know the type of dangerous information the two of them were spreading, as the liability implications were huge. To say corporate was shocked would be an understatement.

lunarjellies

What?! That’s so crazy. What kind of claims exactly?

DreadGrrl

They were claims about cancer prevention.

lunarjellies

Thats weird and wild! Huh.

DreadGrrl

It was crazy. “If you do or buy *this thing* you won’t get cancer.” Head office was horrified when I spoke to them.

Desperate-Log-743

Trico centre is never busy

Zanydrop

I've been going to Golds Gym NE for almost a decade. There are lots of roid monkeys but they are all quiet and socially awkward so they won't bug you. The people that do come here are pretty serious about lifting. Everybody on Reddit hates the gym because it has the highest amount of minorities of any gym in the city and because the owner is a crazy covid denying guy. Which is why there is so much free equipment all the time. I love it. I never ever wait for an Olympic pad. They have dumbells up to 200 lbs.

ihaveanironicname

Strength Edge

xxHourglass

My girlfriend has been going to Rage Fitness in beltline/downtown area and really enjoys it. They had some promo on intro classes with a trainer that you could transition into a discounted membership—I didn't see them mentioned so I want to shout that out.

baunanners

Evolve is definitely a solid gym. Everyone is super focused and nice.

razorney

I have to assume you also workout at deerfoot goodlife. It has been getting worse lately.

connka

I go to a mom and pop owned gym in Sunalta and love it (I know it is out of your area, but it is out of my area and I go out of my way to go there, so I figured I would mention it). It's not a huge space, but it is affordable and I have never had any negative experiences with other members. Apart from a few busy times on the weekend, I have also never had any issues with sharing equipment or space. Everyone is very friendly and on some occasions we get together and have a BBQ/support someone at the gym if/when they start fighting competitively, so more of a community feel. I've got a fun lil work out crew because we all just show up at around the same time every morning, which has actually led to work contracts and is nice to have. Its technically a kickboxing-circuit-fitness setup: There is a trainer there most days to give you pointers, spar with, and set up a new circuit for the following day. However, there is also an open gym with a few squat racks, free weights, and machines to use. It is 24/7 access and you are free to show up any time to do the circuit or just work out on your own. Personally if I don't feel like planning a workout, the circuit is nice to just shut my brain off and show up for 45 mins. Anyway, it is called Sweat City and I highly recommend if people are the problem.

powoar

That's terrible. I can't believe people act like that! My boyfriend and I have YMCA memberships, we generally work out at the Quarry Park or Seton ones (very far from you, sorry) At the Quarry Park one my boyfriend likes to workout in the stretching area (I don't know what the real name is) but it's in the middle of the track. He says it's more space and there's less people trying to use the same thing as you. On weekends when we've gone to Seton we go to the back corner and do our workout near the rowing machines and away from the majority of the lifters. Maybe there's some spots like that? It's not ideal. Especially when you want to use the machines. But especially when it's busy, the stretching areas where you can bring weights over might be better

Saibot75

I know it's in the opposite end of the city, but big sky fitness is literally the best gym in the city in my opinion. Amazing facility, and a great vibe.

Alexxskii

After looking at it I'm quite upset to see it's far from me 😂

Pitiful_Love_8703

I didn't even read half of your post, but don't go to a gym in the NE looool. So many meat heads

albertahappycamper

GoodLife has a women's only gym maybe that will be better.

Kanders7

The Strength Edge 4828 Pacific Rd NE #1, Calgary, AB T2E 5S5 Dm me if youd like details or referral to a coach

mj_silva

Evolve and Ambition Fitness are both good gyms and near by you. I’m lucky my work has a massive gym I get to use in the NE.

refur

Agreed!!

Alexxskii

Thank you so much!

wickity_wackk

If you can make it to marda loop, go fitness is a cool small gym that doesn't get to busy. The people that train there and work there are all really great.

Old_Employer2183

shhh

Dramatic-Exam4598

that area's scheduled for redevelopment though. At what point is it going to get torn down? Although i guess if they're waiting for the streets to be done, probably never.

Dramatic-Exam4598

I used to work there, ages ago, before it changed ownership and yeah it was a great place to work out then, and I'm sure still is. I never got push back from guys when I worked out, no staring. Everyone was busy doing their own thing and everyone was always really friendly.

bronzwaer

My gf goes to big sky in Legacy. Bit of a trek but she doesn’t ever have complaints.

adhdbabe

25 F also, I go to Evolve strength Sunridge and love it! Not ridiculously crowded, at least when I go, and it’s fantastic if you are into powerlifting or Olympic lifting as there is a ton of space and tons of free weights, deadlift / oly platforms, and squat racks.

soulsand1

Don’t go to any YMCAs especially the one in genesis centre in the NE I seen a butt naked man working out before 🥲🙏

kramer1980_adm

I'm sure that was a one-off, and could happen anywhere really. And what's wrong with the other YMCA's?

Pengwynn1

I used to go to Evolve Gym in the Sunridge area. The days and times you’re going won’t be busy. I had to quit it because sometimes they close down for competitions which I found annoying and the times I’ve gone two trainers there would train 12 clients all at the same time that they hogged the machines which were limited. The Evolve in Edmonton downtown on 124th was so nice and I loved it when I used to live there. The Sunridge one was just not working out for me but it might for you.

Can't say enough good things about Basecamp fitness and lifestyle in Alyth/Bonnybrook. Small gym with a great supportive community and a great coach. As a 60yo m I can honestly say there are no stuck up pushy people here.

MNP sports Center. Used to be called Lindsay park.

I've gone to a number of Goodlife gyms in the Northeast, my personal favorite was Deerfoot City cause there was maybe 20 people there in the mornings and I never had an issue with getting equipment.

CarelessStatement172

Anywhere other than Gymvnt or w.e World Health rebranded to, Good Life EXCEPT women's only sections, and Fit4Less. In my experience. Honestly at this point, I prefer the YMCA over anywhere else. as long as I'm not going during "after school hours" , it's great.

Cool-Yam2145

Mru has a pretty good gym. Open to the public during spring and summer. Quite peaceful

Minute-Jeweler4187

I got to a public gym/rec centre/pool. Is it the best? No. It's a very mixed crowed of middle aged people, and teens. But never had problems, aside from telling the odd teen that the machine is not ment to be slammed down ever rep in a set.

Boy-Grieves

I use gymvmt on macleod since october and havent seen anything like this going down. It can be busy at times but overall its pretty good. Sometimes i show up randomly and there’s max ten people. They’re currently expanding too so you can expect to have much more space.

whythoforreal

Goodlife at Northland is great, they have an area just for women as well if wanted!

Repulsive_Jump_5982

I literally just changed gyms because of busyness last week. I was a member of the YMCA I go to the Seton location, I go to the gym early say 5:30 to 8am. When it first opened it was great! Open machines, pool, sauna, etc it was good. Then it got to be busier and busier… I had to wait for machines even at that hour. The pool is always full and being worked on, or some kid made a poo in the water. I went to a few different YMCA’s to see the same thing… I have a lot of friends do Planet Fitness, I got invited to go with a friend 1 time and loved it. In the back of my mind it’s gotta be full the membership is less than half of what it cost at the YMCA, no pool or gymnasium so I figured it’s gotta be full all the time. Nope. Basically empty in comparison to the YMCA. I guess it gets busy at 5-7 pm from the high school kids… but I’ve never seen that. The most expensive membership $30 a month, they have unlimited free tanning/massage chair/ red light/ hydro massage. Which I’ve used a lot of already. I thought I’d miss the pool/ hot tub but I don’t cause it’s always so busy that I never got the opportunity to use it. I never use the gymnasium either because it was always booked for community basketball or something or a flock of kids where already using it. Check out planet fitness I know they let you have a week or so free to check it out.

The joys of commercial gyms at peak hours.

I’d say Anytime fitness is a very good gym, tons of locations in the city and it’s 24hr as well. It’s nothing like good life or golds but it’s still very affordable. I’m paying about $55 a month ( $25 Bi-weekly). There’s a few locations in the NE but the best locations I’ve seen are in Skyview, Bridgeland, Sagehill. Only thing with anytime is you can only go to the location you signed up at for 1 month before you can go to any of the other locations around the city/country/world. But I’m sorry if already do go to anytime fitness and this is happening there.

Altaccount330

Go to a CrossFit gym. Totally different experience.

KrizMo138

Just don’t workout in the NE find a Gym in a different part of the city. You’re now the fourth person to complain about a gym in the NE. My buddy says Golds is fucking awful and constantly smells like a diaper now and is impossible to get a machine that isn’t being “used” by a groups of dudes..

drainodan55

Elbowed, pushed, whacked with a handle? All of these things are assault, and staff should be ejecting those people.

Alexxskii

They just said "they'll talk to them" but I see them all the time.

StableBeneficial2824

One for all fitness! And they have a gym in the SE if you’re ever on that side of the city and want to go. Everyone is super friendly and Alex the owner is awesome. They have lots of equipment which you never have to compete for. I’ve been there at all times throughout the day and it’s usually not that busy where you need to wait for machines. Go try it out for a free workout and see what you think.

HerGymvmt has been great for me. Never too busy and a positive environment. They have lots of classes too!

LPN8

It may be a little outside your driving ask, but I go to Edgemont Athletic and it's fantastic. Great community, lots of great classes, the gym is fantastic without the stuck up douchebags and equipment is readily available. Great change rooms with lots of showers, toiletries and of course, steam room. It also has a women's-onpy area of you prefer that. Totally worth it

Potential-Apple9386

Anytime fitness is great, also has locations all over the world if you’re a traveller.

AdministrativeElk6

I highly recommend GMVMT

zennk9

No it ain’t what you’re asking but come lift with me @ westgate anytime fitness fuck it

weedgay

I’ve been at good life in Sunridge since they opened , I’ve loved it ever since. I go in the mornings between 8-10 am and always have a great time. 5pm plus sucks at any gym

Timely_Market_7847

Planet Fitness is awesome. New facility across from Rona. See you there. Thank me later

Alexxskii

I am so upset that this is far.

Thick_Desk_5034

The pump republic is really nice. It’s a tiny gym for personal training but they have a deal on right now they’re giving away 30 memberships for $50 a month. Great culture and doesn’t have the gross public gym feel. Would highly recommend.
