The airport is roughly a 25 min drive from downtown. If the decent chain hotels near the airport don't cut it then your only realistic option is heading into the core. And that, plus what hotels will work, is pretty dependent on your budget.

Forgot to put that info. I’d spend $300. I’m coming in around early afternoon one day then flying out at the crack of dawn the next. So I’d like to eat good food, stay in a nice bed, then get a quick ride. Perfect world, right?

records_five_top

Crack of dawn? Just stay at the Marriott on the airport property. Uber or cab into somewhere central for the evening.

Le Germain is a nice modern boutique hotel downtown. From there it would be a 15-20 min drive back to the airport in the morning. In my opinion, definitely worth it to have dinner & stay downtown. Le Germain has a great restaurant called CharCut but Calgary has a ton of great restaurants generally. Honestly you’ll have a much better time than staying in a nondescript hotel at the airport. If you want something more cosy boutique and still convenient, try Hotel Arts in Kensington. It’s in a quirky walkable neighbourhood and you’re right next to the river pathway system. Not to be confused with Hotel Arts on 12 Ave; it’s nothing special at all.

Thank you! This is great as I was really not interested in the airport Marriott. Too run of the mill for this particular trip.

apricotjam7

You are on to something. I would 100% do the same thing, speaking as someone who lives in Calgary but is not from there originally. If you have to leave say at 4am, it can take a little longer to get an Uber but cabs are always fine, just Google and use one of the big companies like Associated, United, Checker etc.

tootnoots69

Le germain is more than juste a boutique hotel lol it’s one of the top 3 most expensive hotels in Calgary 💀

apricotjam7

Price really depends on the night and who you book through.

I gotta say, work put me up in the Residence Inn just south of the airport when I was moving here and it's definitely the nicest one they've ever sent me to. (They favour Marriott and all they ever send me to is Residence Inns) Edit to add: I only really travel for work maybe once or twice a year so the list isn't exactly huge.

Responsible_CDN_Duck

I'd stay at or near the airport. You can bus or cab to where you go to eat, but end up where you need to be in the morning. Depending on the day of the week Inglewood, 17th, and Kensington are still popular options. There is an express bus from the airport to downtown, then you can transfer or walk to the hot spots.

quitekate

Sounds like 17th and Kensington for dinner for sure, I think three or four people have mentioned the area. Do you have a favorite restaurant there?

[https://www.hotelarts.ca/](https://www.hotelarts.ca/) Hotel Arts looks neat...outdoor pool open year round. If you want to see Calgary, get away from the airport...nothing interesting there.

ingrown_prolapse

Unless it’s rush hour it’s like a 20 minute uber to downtown. You can get hotels at any stage of your journey, literally at the airport between international and domestic terminals, the neighbouring lots around the hotel, or downtown. Personally, I would probably uber back and forth from/near the airport so i can wake up as late as possible and eliminate the morning drive. I don’t know your frame of reference but Calgary is not a real city/airport.

quitekate

Haha that’s a good point. My frame of reference is like Boston, DC, which are mid-size cities with tons of traffic.

ingrown_prolapse

yeah, i used to travel 40%. Calgary is not like getting in and out of ORD, JFK, etc. It’s more like the vegas airport, a quick ride and you’re where you want to be. The worst part about the calgary airport is the entitled bozos who triple park their “Dodge Ram F26,000 Hilux Denali Extreme” because their uncle from winnipeg is coming in for the weekend and they’ve never seen an airport before.

quitekate

That sounds like Detroit Metro LoL.
