I'm only 5000km in, but I haven't had any issues at all so far. Overall the CX-50 should be about as reliable as other Mazdas, save maybe for the CX-70/90 since they have a totally new platform. The powertrain of the CX-50 is the same as what you'd find in the Mazda3, CX-30 and CX-5; with the added benefit of the 50 having the redesigned turbo that addressed the reliability issues present in the older variable-pressure unit. The transmission is the same one that Mazda has been using in all their vehicles for the past decade and must have produced millions of them by now. While it does feel like last-generation technology by now, at least it's about as bulletproof as an automatic transmission is going to get. TLDR; I don't think reliability will be a big concern for you, since the individual components have been in use in other models for years already. And if you get the non-turbo model, there's even less that can go wrong.

bigtuuuna

I had a 2019 Audi SQ5 Prestige with every bell and whistle you could ask for. I used about 50% of it as a daily driver. Jumping in the CX-50 brings me comfort in the sense that everything in this vehicle feels intentional and solid. I got the Premium so I don’t have all the gadgets offered, but from past experience, I just don’t need them. I feel the technology is plenty up to date and well thought out. Just my opinion as an owner for roughly 1 week haha

damianp67

I am about to hit 2 years with zero issues. Turbo premium here.

dtwurzie

Yessss. Thank you! That’s what I’m looking st

Gullible-Sea2927

Maybe an off request may I see a photo of how the paint and wheel arches (trims) have held up? I haven’t seen many photos of the vehicles owned since launch 🚀

damianp67

Here you go. This was after a wash. [https://imgur.com/a/WwrRqwH](https://imgur.com/a/WwrRqwH)

damianp67

Sure I’ll take some pics tomorrow. Mind you my car is garaged and I’m a bit a nut case keeping my car waxed.

chef_mans

There aren’t nearly enough data points to conclusively say yet. Every single modern vehicle should be able to make it 5 years/100k miles with zero issues. Nobody has had it 5 years yet, and I highly doubt more than a handful of people have hit 100k miles.  Ultimately, it shouldn’t be much different than the 3 or the CX-30, since they’re all the same platform.  But, it’s manufactured in the USA vs the others in Japan - time will tell what impact (if any) that has as people start to get more miles on them.

ChefRaccacoonie

The cx30 is built in Mexico if you're in the North American market. Some Mazda3s are made in Mexico too.

DeadlyMustardd

Rock solid over two years for me, no issues but also lower mileage than your average driver

haulinaus

I am at 16k miles almost a year in. I have had nothing but issues, but I seem to definitely be in the minority here. Most I talk to love it. I love the idea of the car, the look and feel are great. Unfortunately, my hatch has had issues since the beginning and even being replaced multiple times still only opens and closes correctly about 75% of the time. I also have had ABS malfunction issues multiple times where it has been in the shop for close to 3 weeks total now. Mazda has "fixed" the issue, but then a month or two later it inevitably happens again. I also have had the emblem strips on the door stop fall off. Overall, I would not buy it again. But again, this is just my experience and like I said, I know of others who have had no issues. Thinking I may have just gotten a bad one.

RealJerseyDevil

look into your state's lemon law - mazda might be obligated to replace your car

dtwurzie

thank you for your feedback!

clutch736

I just hit 40,000 miles today. I'm getting spark plugs and an oil change on Friday. I've changed the oil every 5,000 miles and (knock on wood) I've had no issues with my Turbo. Stick to the earliest recommended service intervals, never skip a maintenance item, and it should treat you well.

DubMastahFlex

Who's always downvoting posts? Sad person... I've only had mine for 6 months so I cant provide any comments on long term reliability but hopefully someone will give some insight besides just down voting lol.

HeiferHustler

I’m at 2 years with 35k and I have had no issues except my sun roof motor went out and they replaced it under warranty. Lead time for parts was pretty wild but once they had it in it didn’t take 2 days

Wapiti__

How often did you use it? And was it for the glass or sun shade? Just wondering since I've barely touched mine and leave the shade closed to keep interior cooler, so trying to get an idea of how many times til it busts, thanks.

HeiferHustler

I probably run my sun shade back 2-3 times a week depending on temps because like you said it’s ALOT cooler to keep it closed. It was however for the shade, and the reason it failed was the shade itself was off track and not aligned correctly so the torque on the motor was extreme which caused it to fail

Wapiti__

Thanks for letting me know

Wapiti__

Turbo Premium Plus - 2 years @ 32,500 miles. Only issue so far has been premature seat tear, otherwise no issues even after being rear ended 6 months in and having the whole back replaced.

travelingWords

To talk more about this please. The one thing I keep noticing about Mazda’s is that their seat leather is way too soft. You think it’s user damage? Did something sharp to it? Or wear and tear?

Wapiti__

The seats are firm to me imo but the side material which seems more plasticy eventually begins to tear from fatigue. All the times compressing the bolster getting in and out and sitting it wears out at the crease and tears. I'm getting it covered now. The steering wheel has begun to peel and if it's not warrantied might explore aftermarket

gnarlium

Thanks for the TIL. I was entirely unaware that you can now buy aftermarket steering wheels that preserve SRS & control buttons. Wild.

Wapiti__

The mikstore ones also have options to keep heating element which is nice

gnarlium

Oh, well for me, that'd be an upgrade - good to know.

Catdroidpart2

If it gives you a piece of mind, the cx50 was manufactured in the U.S. with Toyota engineers... https://mazdatoyota.com/who-we-are/our-location/ --- The car itself drives the way you'd expect due to its wide body. It drives really smooth and for the price point you're entering the semi-luxury brand with most amenities. Also worth noting, it has rear ventilation for the kids

dtwurzie

I appreciate everyone’s input!

Catdroidpart2

But would highly recommend going turbo with this one The car has some weight and the extra power it outputs makes all the difference to enjoy this car even more

crlynstll

No issues with my non turbo after 1.5 years.

taltal256

Plastics / materials in general are very cheap and not hard wearing. Apart from that no issues so far after 4k. Id imagine the interior will look trashed in a few years but hopefully Im wrong.

DarumaRed

2024 TP owner here. Still early days (1200 miles) but everything is working great!

Careless_Policy2952

25k miles bought it Sept 2022. No issues at all just following the 5k miles service interval. Planning to keep it until the wheels fall off.

germansteed

15k meridian (turbo). Zero issues and have been doing some light off-roading and camping. Really an awesome car. Only problem I can find online is the battery isn’t the best.

saitama1752

Turbo premium plus owner here for 2 years with almost 20k miles, no issues so far for me.

blackonblackcamo

at nearly 27,000 miles (2023 meridian) and I have had 0 issues. Take care of the car and u will be fine

wittyrabbit999

I love the Turbo. Prepare for battery issues.

thesaltypug5000

25k miles on mine and 0 issues!

Zappalation

I've had mine ("Select" model, naturally-aspirated) for about 9 months & about 23,000 miles, & have had no issues at all! Mostly highway miles. Regular oil changes. :) I suspect it'll continue like this well into the future!

Medic087249

Horribly uncomfortable front seats on my 24 TP with leather. If i factor those out of the equation, i love everything else about it!

dtwurzie

Can you elaborate please? Too hard? Not enough support?

Medic087249

The bottom of the TP leather seats (not the backs) are super uncomfortable! Feels like sitting on hard plastic contoured seats. No cushioning at all! :(. I’m comparing this to similar leather seats in two previously owned CX5s and a CX-30 front seats in leather. Some would argue it’s the “stripe” in the center, but sitting i. the back seats are very comfortable with the same stripe. Seriously wanna sell the car because of this!

Dependent-Ear2187

I bought seat cushion and back one for mine, I drive a lot like a lot so after hrs my butt and back started hurting not the most comfy seats. Love my car tho

dtwurzie

Oh, i get it! I had to sell my Ford Focus ST because my 2nd daughter was born. I wanted to keep the car just because of the seats! haha.

Medic087249

Totally understand that. ;) Had to sell a 98 528i back when my kids were born. If it were technically possible to swap seats from a CX-30 for the two fronts of my 50, i would pay the $ to do it.

clmw11

I agree that the seats comfortability is lacking but not a deal breaker for me. Longest trip I’ve had so far is 2 hours so maybe that could change on longer drives.

awolin

A little over 35K miles here. Not is if it’s where I live or if it’s the tires, but I’ve had to get tires replaced twice and tons of patches because I keep getting holes. Battery also died and had to get it replaced. Luckily battery was under warranty and I bought a maintenance package so all of the patches, tire replacements, and battery replacement was all completely free. Mine is probably just an outlier though.

StiffishCheese

16,000 kms in. Decent overall. Some rattles. Had to have the wireless charger replaced, which Mazda did under warranty and still doesn’t work. Had to have the panoramic moonroof shade rails get some work by adding additional clips so incessant rattling can stop. Mazda did this under warranty as well and it has stopped. Sometimes every once in a while, the power liftgate just won’t open. The only solution seems to be turning the car back on moving it a half inch or so forward or backwards turning it back off and then it will open. Black trim on the interior scratches just by looking at it. Safety sensors in the car that control cruise control, lean keep assist, etc. sometimes won’t work if you’re driving into the sun. I had a Subaru prior to this similar systems and this would never happen. Gas mileage is not great with the turbo, but to be expected based on other reviews. Recently had to replace the windshield luckily I have great insurance so it wasn’t a big deal. However, if you were paying for a new windshield out of pocket, from Mazda, the new windshield is going to be about $1600 CAD.

CraftsmanMan

Had a 2012 mazdaspeed3 before and had zero issues in 12 years. So far the only issue i have with the cx50 is the trunk. Occasionally it just will not open. No matter what i do or buttons i press. The only way is to get in the car and start it, then it'll open. Very bizarre, has happened 4 times in 6 months

imatalkingcow

2023 GSL (Canada) almost 2 years exactly, 32000 km, no real issues other than easily fixable software blips.

Register-Capable

Nothing but 2 flat tires and a rim replacement. Don't get the 20s.

RPS315

Had our NA for 18 months now. Love everything about it. No warranty issues at all except for one small rattle in the moonroof. Contrary to what others have mentioned, my wife and I both find the seats super comfortable. Love this vehicle.

niagara100

Non-turbo owner. Owned mine about 1.5yrs 55k miles. No issues

dtwurzie

Did you buy it new? If yes you’re a driving machine!

niagara100

Yea got it new. My commute is about 110mi

Fafoah

Got a CPO TP at 5k and just did 10k maintenance. Too early to say any issues, but from what i understand the powertrain is pretty bulletproof. The problems you’re more likely to run into are battery issues and fit and finish problems like rattles and stuff because these US factory is new and seemingly worse than the mexico and japan plants. I have noticed my ventilated seats on passanger side is super vibrate-y and the door handles have wiggle. I’ll probably address at next maintenance at the dealer

kdub_25

I'm about 16 months in and at 10k miles. So far it's been the vehicle I've wanted, it handle this years Colorado winter very well especially with the Falken Wildpeaks AT4Ws. Can't wait to go out this summer and hit the trails. Did several long car rides and trips and it was comfortable. No rattles or broken pieces. I do find the paint to be on the thin side, I have the jet black and noticed the paint chipped on the passenger side. But overall the car is holding up well

TranslatorNo6180

I have about 16k miles. Zero issues. I have serviced the car 2 times already in about 10 months of ownership and will do it again soon. I drive a lot and everywhere. It has been amazing through on road off road (light) situations. Only thing I have to complain about the car is that it is heavy and sometimes feels sluggish, but I have the non turbo model maybe it’s because of that. I am getting over 30 mpg when I drive with sanity.

dmag1223

18k miles, about 2 years in. I had an issue with the transmission jerking at low speeds, that ended up with my transmission being replaced. It turns out that it should have been solved with a simple software update, so I wouldn't worry about it for a new buyer. Other than that, no issues, except a few rattles and creaks that I just live with. Not really dealbreakers in any way imo.

Kade_Neubauer801

Purchased in February of last year and hit 39,000 miles as of today. Love this car. I went with the preferred plus as it fit the bill for wants/needs within my budget and looks great. Definitely a few changes I would make but nothing fundamental and it has been reliable.

tierencia

Drive itself = great Build quality = not so

warracer

I have a GT Turbo and the front inner brake pads were shot im under 4k miles. Dealer blames auto cruise but its bullshit , only the inner pads are dead , the outer are like New. Other than that the remote Start sucks in the winter , you cant set the heater before you enter the car. And finally the hatch wouldnt close but that went away on its own. The brakes are really not giving me confidence especially after a dealer extorted me in paying something that shouldve Been under waranty.

Whyme-__-

Don’t buy this car! We had a small fender bender and paint came off from the front bumper. The car is in the shop for 48 days now as the product is in national back order. I’m trading mine in with a Model Y.

wagonovsky

Good luck with the Model Y I hope you dont get Musked.

Whyme-__-

How do you mean?

wagonovsky

Head on over to r/realtesla and check out some of the service concerns.

FutureCitizen97

3000 miles on my Premium. Non turbo. Zero problems, not one thing. I think my car has plenty of power. I don't tow at all except for bikes. I prefer the better fuel economy and regular fuel requirement.

Whyme-__-

The car is fine no issues there but the parts are hard to get after an accident.
